What is Arena PLM and QMS?

Arena, a PTC business, helps companies to design, produce, and deliver innovative products with a unified cloud-based PLM and QMS platform. Arena understands modern product companies rely on distributed teams and global supply chains to develop products, ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO, ITAR, EAR, and environmental compliance), and respond to customer demands.

Arena states that they have more than 1,400 global high-tech electronics and medical device customers. Companies with complex products comprised of electrical, mechanical, and software designs need a single system to collaborate in real-time. Arena enables every participant throughout the entire product lifecycle to work together–increasing visibility and traceability. This helps to accelerate new product development (NPD) and new product introduction (NPI) by streamlining processes, automating review cycles, and reducing errors to increase profitability.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I have implemented Arena at companies and I have had to reconfigure implementations at other companies. I must say that for me (and I'm not a programmer by any means) it was very easy and straight forward. Always on time and the implementation team was always very helpful. We recently integrated Arena to our ERP system and the feedback I get is that it's always easier to work with the Arena team as they are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Implementation went fairly well, and deployment went well. The implementation team was easy to work with and explained the system, they worked with us to make sure we fully understood the capabilities of Arena.

Thus far I am pleased with some of the new features/modules being added to our Arena application suites. I have not had a lot of issue during implementation. The technical support has been great. What's not available in documentation has been complement with the tech support and solutions team.

The implementation process was not that easy but with the support we received from Arena it went fairly smooth. It was a little late on the implementation but not that bad. The team was very helpful and were willing to answer any questions we had. I think one of the things that would have made the process smoother is to have all of what you want out of the PLM system in place and then use Arena around completing your objectives.

Implementation time was as expected. Data transfer into Arena was the most time consuming and exhaustive effort. Getting users up to speed is still an ongoing effort. The implementation team did a good job with the large amount of data and custom configuration.

Arena was easy to deploy, and we had a fantastic system architect that walked us through and trained us through the entire process. We defined the timeline we wanted for the implementation and transition and he helped us achieve those goals and stay on track. He was there the entire process and even after implementation to help us understand the best way to track and store data and files.

Arena wasn't difficult for our team to implement, because we were starting a new cycle of product development and were able to start fresh with that new product launch. After that, we added parts and documentation as we had time or as changes to those parts were made.

It was difficult for us, in part because we had SO MUCH data to migrate from Agile, both in classic PLM (BOMS & Drawings) info and in quality data. It took us over a year, and we wildly exceeded the scope in the original agreement, but Arena honored it and worked with us, finding bugs in their migration tools along the way. There were 3 different times when our migration was held up because the Arena in house tools had issues or limited capabilities which needed to be added or fixed before we could continue. I'd like to think that we contributed to smoothing out the migration for many other companies because of the complexity of our migration. We were very well supported. Mark Andres was the lead engineer in getting us through the migration and he was great to work with and I really felt like he took the time to understand our needs and represent us to get what we needed. My understanding is that normal migrations take 3-4 months, so our 1 year+ was a serious outlier. We never felt unsupported or ignored.

Implementation has been an ongoing process as we attempt to iron out the kinks and cover the more unique situations as they come up. Honestly, it hasn't been a great experience as it has been difficult to find features that should just be easy to use. An example is rolling a change up the assembly tree was not nearly as intuitive as with most other versioning software, so it took quite a bit more of a learning curve.

Implementation went relatively smoothly. No tasks were particularly difficult, but sufficient resources (man-hours) are required in order to complete.
Support from the implementation team was good, no complaints.

Implementation of Arena was very straightforward. Our implementation team walked us through what was needed in a clear and concise fashion and once the data was provided, he was able to do bulk uploading to a pre-production database. This allowed us a sandbox to work in to review, manage, and edit the data until we became comfortable with the contents and the environment. With the pre-production database created and then cleaned up, our implementation team was easily able to migrate the data to a production environment and take us through the steps necessary to release the data live to our customers. The whole process went incredibly smoothly and we continue to be very happy with the pre-production and production level support that was received.

We implemented Arena including validation in 6 weeks with a lot of support from their implementation team. The deployment was relatively straightforward. We did it in pieces, getting items, BoMs and changes underway before tackling Projects, Quality, etc.
