Storyline is used across our entire organization to create training for both internal employees and our corporate partners. We create sales and technical training for a variety of roles. It addresses the problem of having a global workforce that needs consistency in training delivery. We can release a training module for the entire company to support initiatives.
Pros
  • WYSIWYG editing (What you see is what you get). It's very helpful to be able to immediately see how actions and scripts affect each piece of the puzzle.
  • The flexibility of exams/quizzes is extremely beneficial. From the different question types available to the ability to randomize answers.
  • The integration of multimedia is super user-friendly—video (hyperlink or direct upload), audio, narration, etc.
Cons
  • The opportunities to utilize the motion of objects is extremely limited.
  • I don't like that you can't preview the full workings of the slide if it contains a video upload.
  • The menu visual options are fine, but not super intuitive. I'd like to have more control here.
Likelihood to Recommend
I'm not sure it's scenario-specific. I think it's great for trainings, certification exams, video-based modules, etc. There isn't a scenario where I think it couldn't be used. It's more about creating the content based on the way that it will be used. I haven't come across a situation where it wasn't suited.

Pros
  • Allows courseware creator to manage the flow of the participant by using variables.
  • Embedded and online media
  • Customizable size of stage.
Cons
  • No help utility. They provide a crowd-sourced forum where you can post questions. I'm probably old-school, but "post and pray" is inherently unsatisfactory. In fairness they do have employees who monitor the forums and usually you get an answer back quickly. But you have to be very, very careful about how you frame the question, and include all the things you've tried because they tend to reply with obvious, and typically useless answers.
  • Ability to set active buttons and keyboard shortcuts on master pages so you can put them and take them out once, instead of having to put them on every page.
Likelihood to Recommend
I give Articulate a high recommendation. It's easy to use and quite serviceable. Occupies the same authoring space as Lectora. Storyline and Lectora are the only two e-learning authoring tools I would recommend. There are some well-known "Brand X" tools I'd recommend staying away from (but I'm not going to put specific names in print, sorry).

We use Articulate 360 every day...it's the perfect suite of tools for any type of e-learning.

If you design and develop e-learning, you need to have the Articulate 360 tools in your arsenal. They provide a one-stop shop for all things e-Learning, including but certainly not limited to: interactive branching with scenario-based learning, iPad development, responsive design, upgraded HTML5 compliance, system simulations with the built-in screen recording tool, sliders, motion pathing for animation purposes, and so much more.

Collaboration amongst our reviewers is a snap with Articulate Review. Goodbye, Excel spreadsheets and shared Google Drive documents...Articulate Review provides our SMEs and stakeholders one, easy to use tool for capturing all their feedback. And allows us to make comments back to comments. Lifesaver!

Articulate 360 is head and shoulders above the other tools and suite of tools on the market. It truly combines the features of most rapid e-Learning tools on the market in one easy-to-use tool. And, the Articulate community is just a bonus addition...no other company's support can compare to what Articulate provides.

As an Articulate only design shop (creating content and providing training solely in Articulate), we've been able to use Articulate 360 to decrease our development timeline significantly across the board. Our customers love the speed with which we can create interactive and engaging courses.

Pros
  • Articulate's community is just a click and email away...support when you need it. The amount of free templates, storyboards, ideas, and graphics is absolutely amazing. We all share information, issues, and resolutions together, making for a true "community" of e-Learning professionals.
  • Articulate's Storyline 360 tool enables you to import a PowerPoint and add engagement through built-in interactions, or you can start from scratch and build the same look and feel. - Easy enough for beginners, robust enough for programmers.
  • Articulate Review enables our customers to provide screen by screen feedback...long gone are the days of using spreadsheets to track revisions.
  • Responsive design is integrated and works beautifully!
Cons
  • Storyline 360 is not yet Mac compatible.
Likelihood to Recommend
Articulate 360 is well suited to any e-Learning project, whether you are a newbie or experienced computer-based training developer.

We are using Articulate Storyline 2 to develop eLearning modules for our staff and other stakeholders. This includes compliance based modules and modules focused on building knowledge and awareness on products and services.

We have recently been implementing a non-linear learning methodology which allows learners to access the information they need as and when they need it.

Pros
  • Online community for support is amazing (eLearning hero's).
  • Content is made interesting by using customised interactions.
  • Really easy to pick up and use.
Cons
  • Videos are not as clear as they could be.
Likelihood to Recommend
Articulate Storyline is a great way to rapidly develop quality eLearning tools. It is not so great for video.

Articulate 360 is our primary method of creating online learning content. It is used by learning and system specialists with the Human Resources department.

The solution it has solved for us is to be able to create online learning content compatible with Learning Management Systems, both rapidly with Rise 360 and more sophisticated with Storyline 360.
Pros
  • As the leader in the eLearning market, there is plenty of community support and training readily available.
  • Is cloud-based so can be accessed anywhere.
  • Very user friendly so even non-traditional L&D users can navigate and create content.
Cons
  • The only negative I can think of is that it was behind in moving to the Cloud, so we didn't use it a few years ago because Cloud based apps are a must for us. Since we've started using it again we've had to develop many courses in 360 again. However since transition period it has been smooth sailing.
Likelihood to Recommend
Articulate 360 should be first on any eLearning Specialist's list when they're evaluating which eLearning tool might fit their business. Its competitive pricing makes it accessible for small businesses as well.

The introduction of Rise 360 is particularly useful for non-specialists who want to create online learning content because it's a user-friendly WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) tool with templates and preset animations that do all the heavy for you.
