We are utilizing the Aruba Software Defined WAN (SD WAN) as a means to give us far reaching access to remote and geographically separate sites that will enable them to function the same (or similar) to how they would directly on the LAN. It has solved the problem of not being able to manage these locations as if they were local.
Pros and Cons
  • Fairly easy to manage once its setup and running
  • Updates are easy and handled with little downtime
  • Price is just right for the product functionality
  • Configuring the product initially can be complex and confusing
  • Support could respond quicker
  • More features would always be nice

Software Defined WAN is growing a lot this year and when we had some issues connecting to our external and remote locations we needed something that could also manage those sites in one easy place. We had trouble doing this with our existing infrastructure, but now our sites are all connected with the [Aruba Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN)] and we couldn't be happier.
Pros and Cons
  • An intricate system of connections that make it seem like your outside sites are all on one single LAN
  • Well priced in their category as others are a bit pricier for the same services
  • Aruba is backed by a well staffed support team that can get you through your issues
  • Ran into some weird bugs along the way that required support to address
  • Not having physical devices that you can reboot yourself takes a bit of control away
  • Administrators have a bit of a learning curve in figuring out the new system
Likelihood to Recommend
You really have to have the exact needs we did to require a system like this. Connecting external buildings or remote offices that don't have a great way to metro net or VPN back into the network can use this solution and it makes things alot easier. If thats your same situation this may be a simpler way to accomplish that.
Return on Investment
  • ROI is still to be determined as you have to calculate the existing hardware costs
  • Theoretically you could be saving lots of time managing all the hardware in between sites
  • SDWAN is still new and may take an entirely new budget to accomplish

Aruba Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN) is being used as a means to centralize some specific remote sites in our organization. It's a way to centrally manage them as opposed to the problem of managing each specific router at each site as a solo network. It helps us solve the issue of deploying rules and changes separately, which would be much more time consuming.
Pros and Cons
  • The software and web interface is nicely designed
  • Fewer bugs than some other competing services
  • The right support team for your product can be difficult to get ahold of
  • Integration with Cisco is not as super tight as integration with Aruba devices
  • Some of the advanced features are difficult to use
Likelihood to Recommend
While I do believe the product to do most of its features quite well, it's when you want to delve into the deeper functions that things get a little less clear and sometimes confusing. And getting a technician who knows the product well can be a tough task. For users with a large Aruba network, it is a great tool however.
Return on Investment
  • It has created a bit of overhead as another control panel that needs to be managed
  • Recovery of invested costs will take some time
  • Time is saved on the separate management of sites
