Basecamp is a great tool but looks a bit juvenile next to Asana. Basecamp treated us very well but Asana is a perfect fit for us now. It's easy to use and clients use it, which is a big win.

Teamwork was extremely complex and cluttered. Something that made is really hard for my team and clients to embrace. We were with Teamwork for one month, then we moved to Asana!

Asana and Monday are similar in that they are both task tracking softwares however I feel that Asana is a bit too simple for our team as opposed to Monday. Asana is great for a small to medium sized team, we are looking for a software that we can use across multiple departments which is why we are currently migrating from Asana to Monday

Asana is a great balance of simplicity and robustness. JIRA is simply too robust for my team's needs - it is more appropriate for a software team. We did not need the capabilities to customize automated workflows. Our development process is waterfall, so a PM software centered on "lists" (like Asana) is the best fit for us. Podio was too flexible and time-consuming to configure. Wrike is extremely similar to Asana. Trello and Wunderlist were a little too basic for our needs.

Trello is really just more on boards and the con with that is if you list lots of task under one headboard some tasks are buried from the view since the boards are a bit big. I like the list feature of Asana, especially for project management. Trello on the other is a great platform for creative projects like graphics, book covers, and others since if you attached the file to board you can easily view the image. Asana though on my part allows me more freedom and more creativity since it has more features like calendar and priority level. Basecamp is more of casual way of arranging task. I don't like it that much.

We had used Mavenlink in other departments but for the Design, Product Development and R&D teams, Asana made much more sense and we have not regretted the switch for them. The organization is key when forming ideas and doing a bunch of research, it is difficult to keep all of these things organized. This was our main goal when we chose Asana, we had heard good things and wanted those benefits for our team.

I'd choose Asana as a solution in case I need to deal with project management and working with other people. In case I need to also have private conversations with anyone involved in a project, I'd prefer Slack. And in case I'd like just a task management tool without too overwhelming interface, I'd choose Basecamp. Out of these three, Asana is a very good tool, but takes time to learn. However, it's worth it.

Honestly, the two listed are a bit different and are used for a lot of different reasons, but Asana has a very streamlined focus on project management, where as Dropbox and Google Dropbox has a lot of different uses that could include project management.

We loved the fun design hacks (e.g., flying celebratory unicorns when you complete a task, Tab+B puts tabby cats on your screen temporarily; themed backgrounds). We're marketers–can you blame us?! But in all seriousness, we chose Asana over other similar products because of the detail that Asana could go into when tasking out subtasks to individuals with separate deadlines. Managers are also able to view the tasks that team members are working on to manage workload. It's also helped increase visibility of task details amongst team members to provide background on projects they might be looped into in the future.

We switched to Smartsheet for one year and we liked it mostly because of the Gannt Chart feature. However, leadership changed and the funding to continue to use it dried up. However, with all the upgrades to Asana over the past two years Smartsheet doesn't have as many advantages worth paying for anymore.

As stated before, for my own line of work, I prefer JIRA because it is more powerful; it brings more structure and organization (which might seem as a downside for some people) but provides additional value from it. It provides a better user interface and experience; it has a lot of searching power. It integrates very well with GitHub and the reporting is pretty good as well. Asana was the client's choice of tool.

  • Trello and Teamwork Project Manager
Asana lets you view things in tasks. Trello is more geared toward projects with their board layout. I find Asana to have the best user interface of all project management softwares. It may be missing some functionality (like budgeting and time tracking -- which you can add on with integrations), but I feel that I can actually use it. With the other project management tools I get frustrated by trying to figure them out that I don't use them at all.

Asana is very quick in terms of creating and assigning tasks. None of the above software does it with that efficiency. Redmine and JIRA both have a boring interface while Asana is modern and hip. The only major difference between them is the integration for Agile development which I would like to see in Asana too.

The main reason we selected Asana over any of the alternatives was the interface and the customizability. With Asana, we were able to make the software work for our particular workflow and we are still finding new ways to integrate it, so it became one tool that replaced at least four others.

After trying several other options, including Zoho and Basecamp we settled on Asana. The time to value was the shortest when we factored in the learning curve, relevant functionality, mobile friendliness and most importantly the team calendar. Another great aspect is that it can also integrate with JIRA for teams that work in an agile environment.
