I would say that it has the same functionality as the three mentioned above in their respective fields (might have a bit less than some of them) but Asigra offers all of this and more so if you are looking for a single backup solution across the entire firm then Asigra is the much better choice.

  • Veeam
Veeam is great, it backs up VMs, great reporting but when looking at a backup solution as a cloud service provider Asigra provides a full suite from VM servers, physical servers, applications, third party SaaS based apps and portable devices. It's multi tenant capabilities mean it's a great all in one comprehensive solution.

When evaluating Asigra against Commvault we found the following:

Commvault - Expensive licensing, per socket, VM, agent, TB etc. = > HW costs, pro services = > TCO
Commvault - Did not at the time backup Office 365, Google Apps, Salesforce.com and could not be recovered locally
Commvault - Did not at the time Backup/Recover Docker Containers

There are several good products in the backup and recovery market, no doubt about that. We selected Asigra because it covers more public, hybrid and private cloud backup scenarios than other products. Asigra has proven to be a reliable Partner to us offering Backup and Recovery Services for over 10 years now. Successful backups mean a lot to us in daily business and restore success is key to us and our customers as we all rely on it when it is critically needed.

Best of all options, covers most if not all scenarios, granular backup, scheduling, and retention options. Provides self-service restores, centralized web management interface, and granular reporting.

Asigra has more functionality. It has a very simple and smart licensing model. The Asigra company has great service on all levels, from sales to technical and end customer service. The software itself is very stable and functional. It has all our requirements as a cloud backup service provider for customers in all sectors, including the health sector.

CommVault
CommVault is an excellent product with a very strong feature set but it is not as cost effective to deploy for a service provider, when using in house for your own solution it is a great product but to outsource is less appealing. The pricing model used to be very complicated but I believe it is getting more simple now.
Veeam
Veeam is another very strong product for backup of virtual machines but it is not multi tenanted and does not offer the same level of protection as Asigra.

We've used Acronis, ARCserve, BackupExec, Code42, BackupAssist, LiveVault, and many others. Asigra stands head and shoulders above the rest with it's ability to support a variety of different operating systems and applications. Plus being agentless is a huge advantage.

To be precise, you don't get one single product that has all the features that you have in Asigra.

To begin with is being hardware independent not binding you with a particular hardware. You don't need to worry about licensing based on no. or type of devices, databases & processors OR even features. All of them get licensed the single way.

Features like Agentless architecture (quicker deployment & support), BLM (low cost of retention), inbuilt replication (No hardware or OS dependent DR) & Remote VDR (Automatic incremental recovery of a VM), support for various devices & databases are exceptionally well and I don't see any other product having all these in one.

Asigra licensing model is more straight forward than eVault and has an easier user interface.

Asigra is more robust and feature rich than Mozy or Carbonite.

Asigra offers true multi-tenancy, where the Symantec products do not offer such features.

Asigra's feature stack holds water against the other competitors out there. As far as cloud backup goes, it is the most mature cloud backup software on the market. As well as being mature, the security exemplified by the NIST FIPS 140-2 encryption certification is far ahead of its competitors.

I have used Symantec Backup Exec, Symantec System Recovery, Datto and RBS Cloud Backup.

Asigra has great compression. No need to install additional agents across a company is great. End Users often blame agent installs for messing up workstations etc so not needing an agent in order to backup a workstation saves a lot of time.

Asigra is built with multitenant MSPs and companies in mind so its easier to use when managing many companies or isolated parts of a business. Asigra can stackup well in these situations against Avamar and Commvault. Cost can be lower but adds up quickly as you consume storage
