SteelCentral AppInternals and Aternity have been utilized by users to gain comprehensive visibility into the performance of complex applications, allowing them to identify and resolve issues efficiently. With SteelCentral AppInternals, users have been able to diagnose and analyze every transaction within their applications, including logs, network data, and payload information. This has enabled them to trace individual transactions and pinpoint the source of issues, whether in the application code, server, or network.

Aternity has served as a real-time monitoring tool for business-critical applications, offering detailed information on security, application performance, and resource usage. Users have leveraged Aternity for proactive monitoring across critical business components, ensuring that defined availability thresholds are met. It has also provided users with the ability to monitor system performance for virtual servers and applications, focusing on CPU and memory utilization, running shell scripts, and checking the status of Windows services on multiple servers.

Furthermore, these tools have addressed specific challenges faced by users. For instance, the lack of visibility into the stack trace of various applications prompted the purchase of SteelCentral alongside a Riverbed device for network monitoring. The tool successfully helped in identifying and resolving network latency issues, resulting in immediate improvements in bandwidth.

Overall, SteelCentral AppInternals and Aternity have proven valuable in enhancing user experiences by providing comprehensive visibility into application performance and enabling efficient issue resolution.

Effective in reducing application downtime: Users have consistently found the application to be highly effective in reducing application downtime and improving troubleshooting. They have reported significant improvements in their ability to identify and address issues promptly, leading to enhanced system reliability.

Holistic view of system performance: Reviewers across the board appreciate the comprehensive view of system performance provided by the application. It offers valuable insights into various aspects of their IT infrastructure, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of overall system health and make informed decisions for optimization.

Useful stability index: The inclusion of a stability index for each monitored server has proven extremely useful for users. This feature allows them to quickly identify servers experiencing stability issues or potential problems, empowering them to take proactive measures before any major disruptions occur.

Complicated Setup: Some users have found the tool to be complicated to use at first and mentioned that it required a good amount of training to set up different use cases and monitoring parameters. This complexity in setup can be a barrier for new users and may require additional time and resources.

Slow Performance: Users have experienced slow performance and sluggish user experience due to high CPU resource demands for monitoring tasks. This slowdown can impact productivity and efficiency, causing frustration among users who expect smooth and responsive performance.

Higher Cost Compared to Competitors: Some users have mentioned that the platform is slightly costly compared to other products in the market. The higher cost may deter potential customers who are seeking more affordable alternatives or value-for-money options.

SteelCentral AppInternals is in the company to provide visibility into the performance of multilayer and complexity applications. It aims to show a detailed picture of what each team needs to identify and solve their problems. And all of this in a collaborative and optimized way that makes life easier for everyone.
  • Try to end application downtime.
  • Optimize and improve troubleshooting.
  • Detect and identify existing problems.
  • A little complicated at first to use.
  • We found it a bit slow to give the answers.
Riverbed SteelCentral AppInternals at the company collaborates on monitoring Java and .net applications, as well as other third parties. An example scenario is the measurement we do from end to end of some applications to the web page. All this with real-time monitoring and identifying any delays in performance you have. Alerts can come from the browser, database, application, and even from the network.
  • An overall improvement in transaction performance.
  • Improved security because of the excellent monitoring that is performed.
The three tools mentioned above are great too. All deliver and fulfill their functionality well. But we chose Riverbed SteelCentral AppInternals because we received referrals from other friends who work at other major companies around the world and use this solution and have never had any problems. So for reliability we chose this one.
The support I give the highest rating because it is really amazing. Every time we triggered the tool support, we were very well served very quickly and efficiently. The problems were solved quickly and without stress. The staff helped us within minutes and had a lot of patience with us.

SteelCentral was purchased in addition to a riverbed device for network monitoring. New owners for the company wanted serious visibility into their custom-written applications and performance around said applications. Right out of the gate we were able to trace down a network latency issue between our database server, and our application server (.NET). The resolution of which was simple and gave an immediate bandwidth increase.
  • Root cause finding/remediation (it goes beyond analysis).
  • Shows latency between applications and servers.
  • Identifies long-running SQL queries, and puts the onus back on developers to clean up their SQL code.
  • Cost - Riverbed is really proud of their products, and the price shows.
  • More "point and click" repair opportunities.
  • Integration with Cisco DNA, tell which devices could have issues based upon the IOS version, etc.
It is well suited for companies wanting to get the most out of their applications, and have a good amount of money to spend. This product would be great for anyone's company, but it is a bit cost-prohibitive to SMB's. I would recommend to Riverbed to have a "per engagement" cost with trusted partners, to clear up performance issues on a one-time cost basis.
  • Immediate ROI by finding long-running SQL queries and putting the onus back on the developer to tighten their code (IE - It's not the network!).
  • Root cause finding (This goes beyond analysis). Riverbed was great at finding where problems were hiding so we didn't have to do too much hunting. I can estimate that there were 2-300 man-hours saved on one project alone.
  • I spent more time convincing my client they needed this than I did in resolving their issues. This was a serious win for my client and for me.
  • Riverbed is on-premise. I don't have to worry about my agents not connecting to the app dynamics cloud or a cloud agent not working and not updating information.
  • Integration with an already-existing Riverbed appliance that was already on-site and operational.
  • The cost was better on an ongoing basis. My client was more cap-x friendly than op-ex friendly.
Fortunately, I've not had to use support very often. I will chide Riverbed on this, as I do any other company that outsources support to India. Please stop! When your customers can't understand the person on the other end, it makes support cases incredibly difficult. Please, Riverbed, use English as a first language talent.

We use AppInternals to give us full stack visibility across cloud workloads and containers, showing full diagnostics for every transaction across our applications, which includes logs, network and payload data. We have a high number of applications spread across the organization, on-premise, and cloud-based. We had very little visibility into the stack trace of these applications.
  • Full stack visibility into application data is excellent.
  • Transaction element is very detailed and extremely helpful in diagnosing issues.
  • The support element from Riverbed has been great, including the turn around time for the few issues we had.
  • We found the platform slightly costly for the return. Having tried multiple products this was the best of the lot.
  • We did find a few applications where the diagnostic data wasn't overly insightful.
If you have multiple applications deployed natively and cloud-based, then AppInternals will be well suited to you. If your applications use multiple technologies, then again, this will be well suited to you. We have offices and users across the globe, so we needed a platform where we could measure the data from multiple geographic locations.
  • We were able to pinpoint app stack issues within the first days and issues we weren't aware of. Changes were made and the performance has been enhanced greatly since and this is due to AppInternals.
  • The ability to drill into the diagnostic data is second to none. Pinpoints exactly where issues are and this saves troubleshooting time.
  • By implementing AppInternals against the Dev environments, it also allowed future releases to be accelerated and be deployed cleaner and faster.
There is a wide variety of APM solutions out there for companies to pick from. Riverbed AppInternals sits near the top of the stack certainly. We already deploy steelhead units across the estate with client licenses, that aided us in our decision to select AppInternals. We found the costs of AppDynamics and New Relic ( which we had trials for) both costly against AppInternals.

Cuts down on the time to resolve complicated application issue. Now, we have been able to trace individual transaction to identify where the issue is whether in the application code, server, or network.
  • Transaction tracing is the most useful. Being able to have the transaction stitched together so we can see where the problem is has proven invaluable.
  • Support for PHP, DB, and other applications need to be supported. We have a broad range of applications that we would like visibility into but the list of currently supported applications is very small.
  • 9/10 - We had a couple of issues that required opening up tickets. The Riverbed support engineers usually resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • App Dynamics should try to find some measure of support or functionality in an SAP and People soft environments - however with the introduction of C++ agents - the People Soft realm will be covered shortly.
  • Additional support for next-gen mobile platforms also needs to be high on the roadmap prioritization.
We are a services organization and we use Riverbed SteelCentral AppInternals with our customers. It has allowed us to expand the footprint in the application management business with virtually all of our major accounts. We were able to expand and go into other applications that we weren't in or offering previously.

Now, we have a new value proposition for our customer enhanced visibility, enhanced stability, and we can reduce our cost to them because our cost structure is reduced by using Riverbed SteelCentral AppInternals.
  • This product has really wonderful features and one of the most valuable ones is the transaction searches into TTW.
  • This will show you the operations that occurred under conditions that the user specifies, giving you the opportunity to drill down on the things that are more important and affecting system performance.
  • Besides that, the capability of analyzing each individual transaction captured to a very low-level detail (method call/line of code). This ability empowers the testing teams to provide more visibility to developers on how they can improve.
