Atlan serves as a valuable tool for organizations by providing a central repository for data definitions and cataloging all assets in one place. Users have found it particularly useful for end users who can access Atlan directly from their reporting tool, such as Looker. This ability has allowed users to quickly answer questions and focus on decision-making rather than data manipulation. The implementation of the Notion glossary has provided users with valuable insights and learning experiences, leading them to transition to Atlan for serving the entire organization. Some challenges encountered include understanding and communication issues due to different metric definitions across teams, which required significant time and effort to align. However, Atlan addresses these challenges by facilitating data discovery and democratization, distributing data across the organization, empowering business teams with data independence, and centralizing metadata for collaboration between data consumers and owners. It also helps provide greater access to and trust in data, enabling self-serve analytics, decreasing dependencies on data personnel, and allowing automation around data information. Overall, Atlan provides a reliable source of truth for data governance, lineage, and documentation while streamlining workflows for data engineers and improving efficiency in managing metadata, ensuring accuracy, and reducing support requests. With its user-friendly interface and features like broad search capabilities, collaboration integrations, visualization of table ERDs, and documentation updates, Atlan offers an outstanding customer experience that simplifies understanding of data context, enhances collaboration between teams, enables self-serve query building and sharing, standardizes terminology for metrics and data definitions, improves support for report requests, reduces investigation time for identifying the meaning of data within the organization, assists in compliance efforts like GDPR and localization laws, performs impact analysis on pipelines or changes efficiently, supports QA and Dev lifecycle requirements and bug management. Ultimately, Atlan has become a valuable asset for organizations seeking efficient data management solutions.

Lineage Feature: The lineage feature of Atlan is highly valued by users, with many reviewers considering it the most valuable aspect of the tool. They appreciate how seamlessly it connects with Jira and Slack, enabling a smooth and efficient experience for data tracking and collaboration.

Ease of Access to Data Tables: Users highly praise the ease of access and organization of data tables in Atlan. They find it simple to retrieve the information they need using SQL without any unnecessary complications. The clear organization and descriptions of tables facilitate efficient data discovery.

User-friendly Glossary: Many users describe the glossary feature in Atlan as user-friendly and collaborative. They appreciate its ability to define and document business terms and metrics, providing clear and consistent definitions. The glossary's powerful search capabilities allow for quick and specific searches for metrics or related information, complemented by seamless integration with data lineage and impact analysis features.

Ineffective Search Functionality: Numerous users have expressed dissatisfaction with the search feature in Altan, as it fails to deliver accurate and relevant results. Moreover, they have reported issues regarding slow page loading and subpar search result quality, which have been duly communicated to the Altan team.

Complex Setup for Personas and Roles: Users have encountered difficulties when attempting to set up personas and roles in Altan. This has impeded their ability to effectively utilize these features. Some users have also highlighted the need for platform administrators to have greater control in creating admin roles and previewing assuming roles.

Limited Integration Options: Several users have voiced their desire for better integration capabilities with tools such as Airflow or bug detection systems. They feel that the current integration options provided by Altan are lacking. Additionally, users mentioned that Altan's compatibility with communication tools like Slack and JIRA is not sufficiently developed.

Atlan is very easy integrable with other data sources which is very convenient and time saving. By switching to Atlan we have increased our productivity and saved a lot of business time. Our team whether teach or non tech adapted atlan very quickly because of its simple UI and interface.
  • Here, it is very easy to extract and modify the data.
  • We can do very quick and smooth integration over here.
  • It's OpenSource framework provides extension capabilities to the API it uses
  • They should improve their support process by reducing the resolution time.
  • They have a really bad and not detailed documentation, so they should have to work on the documentation as well
Day to day we introduce some new technologies in our system and every time to integrate those tools or technologies with Atlan is way more easy and smooth
  • Extraction of data
  • In this data catalogue solution data modification is really simple and easy
  • Integration with other software tool is very easy
  • Altan reduces our business time for dealing with the data.

My team uses Atlan to define a flexible set of metadata - including measuring the quality of said data. Atlan is also a partner of ours so we use it to integrate with our own tool. It also enables the team to automate manual and high-risk tasks to make them error-free as much as possible. In terms of scope, I only know that our sales, CSM, and CX teams use it for similar uses. Our business may use it to a larger scope than that.
  • Extensive and seemless integrations
  • Tons of automation (in a good way)
  • Extremely user-friendly and intuitive to navigate
  • API documentation could be improved
  • Support team could be quicker in their response
  • Not a lot of "help" type information users can self-access
Well suited if you're using a lot of tools that work in tandem with this such as Snowflake, Amazon, S3, Tableau, Power, BI, Redshift, and others. It also has robust functionality for the quality management of metadata sets. The most helpful thing here is all the dashboards that provide visibility in one place. In my experience, less suited for collaboration across teams. Not a ton of ways to do things in real-time together.
  • Ingtegrations
  • Dashboards
  • UI design
  • Atlan has certainly saved time and money by consolidating our metadata sets
  • Integrations with Amazon and Tableau have definetely sped up our time to value
The other tools were also solid, we ultimately ended up going with Atlan for these reasons: 1. It improved our compliance and risk management the best 2. Easy to adopt and good pricing 3. Seemed to have the most robust functionality -- especially in terms of integrations 4. Easy to use -- anyone could pick it up relatively quickly
