Not in the product listings, but we've started using GitBooks for a lot of our Wiki/documentation-based needs. Compared to Confluence, it is a lot more lightweight and easily provides version history when edits need to be tracked. It doesn't have quite the file management/discussion capabilities like Confluence, but for lightweight documentation needs, it works better.

We used Confluence because we were already using BitBucket and it was within the same family. I haven't really used any other software that would be like this other than SharePoint and this is slightly better. On a whole I am not a fan of this type of software in general and really just prefer Google Drive and Documents.

We used to use Hugo because it was free, and it is very similar in a lot of ways. Great for collaboration and sharing with team members, but Confluence is a bit easier to keep track of notes going back to the beginning of a project by creating a space.

For a larger organization Atlassian Confluence is the best tool we used. We found that since we were a smaller organization it wasn't worth it for us as much as using Google Drive and keeping on top of it. We ended up going back to using Google Drive but only because we didn't need everything Atlassian offered and were spending too much time figuring it out when we needed to focus on our product development and sales.

We will absolutely go back to Confluence when we grow larger and need more robust tools.

Our organization does use Google Drive for various needs. In the end, Atlassian Confluence is a much better fit when it comes to documenting everything for the company to access in a centralized location.

I believe Atlassian Confluence has the early market entry advantage and is much advanced and stabler than the other ones that are mentioned here.
Notion is amazing but they have a long way to go when it come to match the power that Confluence provides. At least 5 years is what is the current gap between these two softwares.

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
Before [Atlassian] Confluence we were creating Google Docs stored on Google Drive using our Google Worskpace. The problem was that we weren't able to optimize the way we were linking Product Management tickets to Google docs and we were loosing so much time at trying to find old files and creating a tree structure where to store files.

I have used other tools that allow for documentation and housing of other business-related documents but none that I used had the same integration or general ability to add and edit information. I am also a general user so I don't know how easy/difficult the backend is, but for my purposes, this is a pretty easy tool to use.

  • HCL Connections (formerly from IBM)
IBM Connections tried to be what Confluence IS - but failed miserably at it. As a knowledge management platform, it was terrible because information went in, but never came out. We used to have a saying that Connections is where information went to die simply because you could never find it again!

Confluence is better than Connections in every way, as it leverages its sister solutions in the suite for easy linking and access. Confluence search is excellent too, so its easy to find that page you're looking for.

Atlassian Confluence is more convenient and reliable than Salesforce Community Cloud. Also, I prefer it over others because of its enhanced interface that makes my working faster and efficient by providing a bundle of options and features as well. It is all in one solution to all my problems.

I used Lotus Notes many years ago and Atlassian Confluence reminds me of that - ugly and functional. We use Atlassian Confluence because we use JIRA. I doubt anyone would select Atlassian Confluence if they didn't also use JIRA. I've looked at Basecamp and it has a better feeling to it though JIRA Core and Service Desk are excellent tools so I can't imagine throwing them out for something pretty that might have limitations.

Atlassian Confluence is extremely customizable with great API integration with a vast array of addons. Great for collaboration between DevOPS and CloudOPS teams. Better structured workflow processes and real-time software release tracking.

To keep the user stories together, we used the Microsoft Office tools. It took a lot of time to search for the relevant stories, so we moved to Atlassian Confluence which is now saving a lot of time.

Atlassian Confluence is a simpler platform than Microsoft SharePoint, which is good and bad. It is much easier to use and has less overhead than SharePoint, which makes it ideal for quick documentation and sharing knowledge. If more advanced features and document sharing are required, then we utilize SharePoint instead. Atlassian Confluence is more suited toward a wiki type of documentation.

JIRA works seamlessly with Confluence, allowing for even more streamlined communication. You can add linked VCP numbers straight to your page on Confluence, and it can be directly linked to the JIRA ticket. I highly recommend using both together. Confluence is best for communication while JIRA is essential in project tracking. The two go hand-in-hand.

SharePoint is used at my org as the main place to document projects and store other docs. While Confluence does not have the same check out functions for Word and Excel it is a living document and can do the same type of things. Also it is much easier and cleaner to look at.
