I am a smart sheet user but I utilize smart sheet for very different projects. I do believe smart sheet has much of the same functionality but I would use it in a very different way. Confluence has more of a web-based dialogue feel, where smart sheet is web-based but still has a very spreadsheet look and feel.

As we are using an Atlassian package, it fits in our stack, which helps us make our development faster and more trackable. There are lots of reason to select Atlassian Confluence is that it fits well in our stack and it is very useful and handy tool to use. I am not sure how it would fit with some other open source tools but for documentation it is very good.

We used to use shared spreadsheets but that was not very efficient due to frequent locking of files and getting them corrupted. Confluence is by far a more user-friendly and efficient solution for sharing information.

We were using MS SharePoint which was integrated with TFS for managing our developer workflow and it was quite clunky. We had to be signed into the VPN to access any of it and it relied upon Internet Explorer for access. It felt slow and sometimes you could use other browsers and sometimes you couldn't. We have also moved to VSTS, Confluence, and TestRail; and things are much more usable and better documented.

SharePoint is great, I use it and I love it. Confluence is a lot like SharePoint with a more modern look and a fancy suit. If you have the skills for implementation, it is great and developers will enjoy it more.

  1. Atlassian marketing will jump on this right away.
  2. When search on google about others not much details but for confluence too wide result is available.
  3. It's an enterprise level tool, the support and community are excellent.
  4. Atlassian, who are highly successful, run their entire business through Confluence.
  5. Confluence talks to other systems relatively easily.

Overall, I would say that I do like Confluence more than tools like Sharepoint and OneNote for the purposes that we are using it for (basic team collaboration, task assignment, and decision tracking). I prefer the document relationship navigation of Confluence over Sharepoint. You can see document titles and their children document titles in an easier way to browse than the folder structure I’m used to seeing in sharepoint. As far as OneNote goes, I find the sectioned page options (or page templates) in Confluence easier to use and manage than the free form OneNote pages I’ve used.

Atlassian Confluence is a great choice for our company when compared to the 2 other knowledge base software services we have previously used. The software is more robust and has more plug-in services, such as Jira. This has been tremendously useful for us to gain visibility into project planning vs. actual hours logged. The other software platforms did not have this functionality.

We mostly used Alfresco as a central content repository system (write once, read many) versus Confluence for team collaboration tool (write many, read many). Whereas Alfresco is simpler to use and admin, it lacks the powerful team syncing features that make Confluence strong

Although similar in the way in which they can be used, Atlassian provides great archival and search features, as well as editing capabilities that set it apart. Security through 2-step verification is an important feature often overlooked, being tested now in beta. Overall it is a good platform to build upon as a knowledge repository for a mid to large size enterprise.

With this tool, everyone is in the same place. You and your teams will have the information that is usually lost in email inboxes as well as shared network drives. Data become much easier to find, use, and update with Atlassian Confluence.

I feel that Confluence performs better when it comes to managing security and user access than most other products. The WYSIWYG tools have a better feel to them, and I like the ability to perform formatting from the keyboard through shortcuts rather than relying on mouse clicks on the various formatting tools.

For our needs, Confluence absolutely blew both SharePoint and Google Docs out of the water. We were able to get more granular security than with SharePoint while maintaining the collaborative tool sets found in both SharePoint and Google Docs. Additionally, the integration into tools we already had in place, rather than needing to jerry-rig a solution that would "work", was a critical deciding factor.

Other products evaluated: SharePoint, corporate-WIKI.
SharePoint has a clunky user interface, and the resulting websites look poor. It resulted in low acceptance from our users. WIKI was over-simplistic and had a lousy search engine. Confluence was selected because of its great UI, integration with JIRA, and the low effort needed to go ahead and start documenting and publishing. Also, the elaborated security engine with inherited permissions has a great value.

Confluence was trying to be too much for our needs; we needed a scrum process management tool and Microsoft Visual Studio Team System turned out to have the exact set of features we needed.

Confluence really makes organization of content far better and easier than in either Sharepoint (which is a chaotic mess) or in Google Drive. It has far easier access controls, especially at the admin or space admin than in Google Drive, and in an easier way that Sharepoint.

Though it is hosted in-house (as opposed to our Office 365/Sharepoint instance) it is very easy to maintain, administer, and update - requiring minimal staff time to do so.
