Avid Interplay Media Asset Manager is a tool used to organize and archive digital assets. This includes audio, video, photos, effects, etc.
This database can be accessed through out multiple locations in the building across different departments. Once the media is in the system it can be logged, tagged and sub-clipped by users. The Search options provide customizable filters to narrow down specifics.
  • Deep archive searches.
  • Fast search results.
  • Easy to organize and maintain.
  • The same media can be imported more than once by multiple users, creating duplicates. A way for the user to be prompted that this media already exists before the import.
The Avid eco-system is extremely reliable. There are multiple pieces working together to transcode, index, and archive media. Needing minimal maintenance and upgrades. Avid support is extensive and can be reached 24/7 at any time of the year. I recommend this product to any production team that wants a long term, reliable asset manager.
  • Used across multiple departments.
  • User rights management, restrictions.
  • Editors can share, review, update projects.
  • Media can used as it's being ingested for quick turn arounds in live events.
  • Direct posting social media features within the app.

It is being used by our video department. It is how we organize all of our various projects that we film all across the world. It helps keep our projects accessible for our team members so they can quickly and efficiently find media that they need. We are constantly having to go back to old footage for new projects, so Interplay helps us find those clips easily.
  • Quickly find video clips and view them right away
  • Keep projects organized
  • Can archive and restore media
  • Sometimes have to reboot the system if things aren't working properly
Interplay is well suited to teams with multiple people who need access to the same media at the same time. We can have producers and editors working simultaneously on the same project, using the same media, even sharing bins. If you're working solo, or have a much smaller team it might be overkill.
  • I can't speak to the finances, but I believe as a whole it has helped our department's efficiency in producing video content.
Final Cut Server was a mess and wasn't really supported by Apple anymore when we were last using it. Avid has good support and we know they're going to be around and support their products. It's also just a better fit for our workflow in terms of producing content, as well as archival and storage solutions.
