We used Barracuda Backup to backup data across our entire enterprise. We backed up all recent versions of Windows and Red Hat Linux servers both physical and virtualized with VMware ESXi as well as SQL Server Databases.
  • VM Image Based Backup
  • Individual file backup from file share
  • Overall Mgmt/Admin GUI
  • Tech Support
  • Oracle Backup Support
  • SQL Backup Support
From my experience, it was not a good product for our sized enterprise we quickly outgrow the appliance and there is no easy way to add storage. The backups worked well for use while we used the product but once we grew there wasn't a way to expand without replacing it.

We use the on-site appliance to backup for our entire organization, our VMware environment, and a couple of physical machines. We also use the AWS replication service for off-site backups, utilizing the Barracuda Backup schedules and retention policies.
  • Provides quick review of backup status
  • Good customer service
  • The web interface could be updated to be more modern.
  • Some views and access to information are not available within the web console, and only by asking tech support can I get some details.
The Barracuda Backup appliance and services accomplish what we need, in order to be prepared for disaster recovery. There is always room for improvement, including their web console interface with the need for more details to be made available to the end-user.

We currently use this product to backup all of our Microsoft Office 365 Emails, OneDrive and SharePoint files. We have been using this product for a few years and mostly happy with it as it securely, affordably and efficiently backs files up in a cloud to cloud format, which makes administration simple.
  • Cloud to cloud backup
  • Office 365 Backup
  • Full an partial backup
  • Prone to timeout errors with large files
  • Has long backup sessions
Barracuda Backup is well suited for an organization that is using cloud only applications and would like to have a backup solution that offers them some security against their files. I would not recommend this tool for large enterprise, as the licensing may get out of control and I am not sure the Cloud to Cloud backup would work for such large files, as it has timed out and errored out for my 150-200 users at times.

We use Barracuda Backup across our whole organization. It does a great job filtering spam and backing up email. It is extremely easy to look up backed up emails and restore them. We receive a lot of spam, to the point were Barracuda reports that it blocks 97% of the spam messages we would normally receive.
  • Blocks Spam emails
  • Backup crucial emails
  • Restores lost or deleted emails
  • Older interface could use an update
  • Better documentation for how to perform certain functions
  • Backing up the actual configuration of the system itself
Barracuda works great if you have an internal secure email system. In our use case, it does not work for out sourced email such as Gmail. Barracuda is a powerful tool when it comes to filtering your private email systems and backing up those emails. Having an external email archive is extremely useful, especially when it comes to legal situations.

The solution was used across the entire organization. It provided onsite and off site backups of a business critical information. I’ve used the solution at two different organizations and in both instances it has exceeded expectations. Customer support is always on point when needed.
  • On-site/off-site data storage.
  • Real time notifications of failures and successful backups.
  • Two factor login support.
  • Restoration from both onsite and could copies.
  • Easy setup.
  • Flexible scheduling.
  • I’m happy with all that the solution offers.
It’s an excellent solution with sizing and pricing options for all sized users. Setup is fast and simple and daily use is just as easy. Excellent reporting options and configurable notifications. Flexible scheduling of backups as well [as] configurations for onsite, and onsite vs offsite replication. Multi factor authentication is an additional plus. Restoration is a breeze and reliable. The ability to define granular selections for backups was great. Selecting the exact files or directory and assign[ing] it to a very flexible back schedule makes the Barracuda a great solution for every user.

Barracuda Backup was personally the best backup product I've worked with in my 25 years of IT. The interface is friendly, the search is easy, restore is a no-brainer, and replication to another device or cloud was also very easy. The on-premise appliance was being used to backup 2 sites and replicate them to the Barracuda Cloud.
  • Backing up VMWare hosts
  • Deduplication
  • Index searching
  • Tech support
  • Self diagnosing non mounting backup files
Backup is a standard today; everyone needs it and every company should not be running anything without it. Barracuda allows for a very simple configuration of backing up a data center or even PCs and laptops. The tech support when setting up a new device was very easy to work with and provided a dedicated rep to assist with learning.

We use 2 Barracuda devices for backups of our Primary VMware server and remote servers. It runs daily incremental backups on the company's shared files and weekly backups of the entire server environment. We use it along with weekly VMware backups for baremetal recovery.
  • Works well with VMware.
  • Easy file recovery for directories and files.
  • Quick restore for basic Virtual machines.
  • Great for roll back instead of snapshots.
  • Sometimes the cloud interface times out.
  • Have had one flashed dead with firmware, was replaced.
Better then tapes and bad Windows software that does not do the quality of backup this device can provide. Cost is higher than most but tech support is super. Easy implementation for VMware, clients are light.

Barracuda Backup is a perfect unlimited cloud backup solution that we use. This tool is used across the organization. I had no problem implementing it because its interface is excellent and easy to manage. After I finished the implementation and configuration of the schedules, you wait for error and failure notifications. Not even with the updates I had to bother, these are optimized and performed automatically at the given time. Restorations are simple as well and save lives.
  • Restoring data is very easy.
  • VMware and SQL backup and integration.
  • The alerts could be better.
  • The price seems a little expensive.
With the Barracuda Backup tool, we have all unified and centralized management. And regardless of location, we have a single console for managing cloud and simplifying everything. In our scenario, it is a large environment, and we recommend using a virtual infrastructure with a great fiber link. Backups and restoration are speedy and secure. It is undoubtedly the best solution in this field.

Our organization uses barracuda Backup as the primary backup and recovery solution for our VMware environment. We wanted a simple appliance that had cloud replication capabilities to automate and streamline our backups across multiple platforms. Barracuda Backup hit the sweet spot for all of our needs, including cost, features, and ease of administration.
  • Cloud replication
  • De-duplication
  • The local management interface lacks a lot of features, but they are not necessary since the cloud interface works so well.
Barracuda Backup is particularly well suited for small to mid-sized environments where cost-effective and straightforward backup and DR solutions are needed. It's especially great in smaller environments where small IT departments don't have time or resources to dedicate to managing a backup and DR solution. The simplicity and reliability of Barracuda Backup reduce the administrative overhead in these environments.

We use Barracuda Backup to back up our entire server infrastructure bot physical (where remaining) and also our whole virtual environment. This backup is pushed to the cloud after the backup window and after being deduplicated and compressed then deduplicated against the cloud and then compressed and encrypted and securely transmitted via VPN to Barracuda Backup controlled and owned data centers where it is encrypted at rest. It fulfills all my needs, where I wanted one vendor to call through the whole backup infrastructure.
  • Virtual and physical backup from day one.
  • No cost per agent or VM.
  • Cloud backup is secure and owned by Barracuda Backup.
  • Local device to crunch the compression, and deduplication and handles all tasks. Also managed by Barracuda Backup and replaceable with an instant replacement subscription.
  • The local device has a secure OS and is patched regularly.
  • Barracuda Backup support is fantastic and can handle just about anything, and their remote access capabilities are amazing.
  • The cloud restore can be slow, sometimes unusable.
  • Searching for specific files in an extended retention policy is slow as well in the cloud.
  • Local device is expensive and outgrowing it is a Capital expense to replace even with trade-in credits.
A small business where simplicity is needed and simple configurations are required for smaller staffed IT departments. Also, when you do not want a major expense in agents for all your servers. When you want to have one phone number to call when you need support and not having multiple people pointing fingers at what is causing the issues you may be having, with everything all in one place, it makes it easy to follow through with issues that may arise.

We have two Barracuda Backup Appliances. One backs up our critical ESXi Virtual Servers. We use this for emergency recovery. The other backs up all our user data, department data, exchange servers and databases. This one also backs up to their cloud services. This addresses standard backup and restore of user and server data. It also protects us from potential ransomware by giving the ability to delete infected data and restore the good data.
  • Set and Forget. I rarely have to touch the Backup Servers. Once you specify your criteria, you really don't need to change it unless you have a physical change.
  • Alerts. When there are issues such as files failing to backup or a directory no longer present, you get an email giving you all the information you need. In addition you will typically get contacted by support about it.
  • Recovery is very simple. The restore browser is very good and it's just easy to find and restore data when you need it.
  • Updates. When it comes to Exchange compatibility, Barracuda Backup has taken too long in catching up and ensuring you can do message level backups. It's a shame to have to wait on an upgrade because your backup solution is not ready.
  • The update process. While it looks very easy to upgrade, I regularly have challenges completing an upgrade. Eventually you get it.
  • Replacements. It's awesome that you can refresh your hardware when you have that warranty. But the two times I did it were very challenging. In the end we have new hardware. That's great. But they need to provide better support on implementing it.
  • The interface can be extremely sluggish.
There are few scenarios that it's not well suited for as long as it's either VMware or Agent Based installations. I have not had success with directly backing up a non-Windows file share. I would definitely test the product first if you are not planning to directly backup through an agent.

I'm the project manager for a MSP. Not only do we utilize a Barracuda Backup Appliance in house, we utilize them for a number of our managed customers. The ability to monitor and control the devices through Barracuda's cloud has increased our efficiency dramatically. With all the options Barracuda provides, like replicating data to the cloud, or to another appliance at a remote site has been a huge selling point for our customers. As an example, one of the financial institutions we work with didn't want any of their data being replicated off network, we were able to deploy a second appliance at one of their other locations, having one replicate to the other keeping redundant backups in-house. Barracuda makes the setup process so easy, one of our level one techs can do the install, and at the same time provides our backup admins the ability to fine-tune a number of features. Restoring files is as simple, if not easier than some of the other backup solutions we utilized, and the ability to have the device restore an entire server to a virtualized cluster has been a life saver more times than I can count.
  • The Barracuda Backup is simple to install, setup, and administer. At the same time gives you plenty of options to customize your setup to fit your needs.
  • The restore process is much more simplified than many of the other backup solutions we've utilized.
  • The alerts, and reporting features and second to none. We'll often time know when a backup has failed, and have the issue corrected long before the customer brings it to our attention.
  • Barracuda's support team is great. Their intelligent, well versed in the product, and incredibly efficient.
  • In some of the older version of the software, drilling down to restore a single files was quite the process. It's still a little slow to this day, but improvements have been made.
  • It would be nice to have the ability to spin up a virtual machine directly on the backup appliance in the event of a failed server. At current time you need a Hyper-v or VMWare environment to restore a failed machine to.
  • Once you put the device in cloud control mode, some of your options are limited when you log directly into the local appliance. I personally would like to see all the options remain the same so I can administer the device the same remotely and I would sitting in front of it.
For larger environments, with virtual infrastructure in place, and the network bandwidth to support it, a Barracuda backup is great. It's easy to back up an entire cluster, or just a single server. When it comes to restoring or spinning up a downed machine, the Barracuda Backup is second to none in these sort of environments.
For the smaller clients, with budget concerns, only a few servers, not having the ability to spin up a failed server on the backup appliance itself is a little painful since we'd have to replace the physical hardware before getting services back online. I think having this ability would make for a great selling point to those smaller to medium size businesses that could benefit from this product.

This product is used across the organization. Barracuda back and Barracuda cloud are an essential part of our disaster recovery plan. The integration with Office365, SQL, and VMware was essential to purchase Barracuda.
  • Cloud and local access.
  • It's easy to use, administrate, and maintain.
  • It's easy to recover data in bulk or individual email/files.
  • Backing up SharePoint 365.
  • Backing up OneDrive.
  • Backing up Exchange Office 365.
  • VMware backup and integration.
  • SQL backup and integration.
  • They have excellent technical support response and knowledge.
  • Reporting errors and issues is not detailed enough.
  • Purging older data by admin is not available. You have to contact support to help free up storage.
It is excellent, reliable, easy to configure, and easy to deploy and use. You need to authenticate every 30 days with Office 365, and I love to see that authentication integrated with Azure.
It will be a great idea to have MFA ability for accessing a Barracuda account.

We use the Barracuda Backup appliance for all of our remote schools we support. It allowed us to implement an effective backup solution quickly without much of a learning curve. We backup VMWare and physical hosts over a leased and owned fiber WAN. We also own an enterprise Avamar solution and use that for our primary data center backups and Barracuda for our offsite data centers.
  • Quickness to deploy. You will not need an expert to get this up and running.
  • Extremely intuitive interface: Brand new techs can pick this up without much training.
  • Global Accessibility: The cloud interface allows administrators to access their backups from everywhere for quick restores after hours.
  • The pricing solution has gone from allowing on-premise ownership to forced cloud extortion. Basically, if you buy now you will be ok, but those of us who "owned" our solution previously are now forced to subscribe to the cloud model or be stuck with a brick.
  • Speed of recovery could be improved.
Barracuda Backup is a great, affordable, and quickly deployed solution if complex DR requirements are not needed. Depending on your RPO and RTO it may be a perfect fit. If you need immediate recovery you should look elsewhere. If you have a scenario where you need some form of backup, like yesterday, this is your solution.

We use Barracuda backup to back up our workstations in our environment. The good thing about it is that it can backup Windows, Linux, and Mac machines. We also are able to target certain machines so that people that have data that doesn't need to be saved if the machine fails do not use unnecessary data. We also drill down into the user profile so that we are not backing up the OS either.
  • Target machine backup.
  • Reports of failure.
  • Scheduling.
  • Backup to onsite storage and replication to the cloud.
  • It's easy to use the interface to see how the appliance is doing.
  • I wish I could make the appliance an onsite public IP so that it could back up public machines not on the network.
Well suited to back up our machines in our corporate environment. We have a mix of Windows, Mac, and Linux machines that we have to back up. With Barracuda, it's easy to restore to the original machine or new target machine. You can also download data to a local machine to be able to put on a drive for restoration.
I wish there was a way I could make it talk to machines on the public internet on a corporate server not based in the cloud.

It is used internally as well as externally. It allowed us to backup servers and virtual machines through easy installation on the location being backed up and a cloud management console. It allows us to monitor the allocated size of the physical device as well pick and choose what we want to get backed up. We can then move any revisions onto the cloud. It is user friendly and helps us make sure our clients backups are taken care of.
  • Backups are readily available.
  • Error reports detail what is wrong. Barracuda customer support is very helpful and they're open 24/7.
  • We can manage all our clients under the Barracuda cloud control. Which is easier then switching websites.
  • We are given a detailed list of Office 365 items that are not being backed up. This allows us to make changed to each user and disregard what we don't what to get backed up.
  • Offsite vaulting has allowed us to put revisions to the cloud and their retention policies are easy to understand.
  • Sometimes I do have to call support and ask a question or have help with an installation. This is not that often. Its because I cannot tell what the error is.
  • We had to lower a retention policy because the device we ordered was filling up way too fast. We were told that this device was good enough for the allocated size of the VM.
  • Adjusting admin settings on cloud control took way more time to figure out. At times it would give us an error or the change in admin status would not accept on the web browser.
When looking at error reports. It is easy to open up the report and pin point which server is having issues. Backing up SharePoint was a bit difficult. When an error occurs, the workaround is calling Barracuda and asking for assistance. It sounded confusing at first, but their support allowed me the ability to learn and now I am creating backups without any assistance.

Barracuda is used in our technology area, where all the institution's important information is stored. It is replicated in the cloud and in another external Barracuda devices, providing a better model of disaster recovery than what we were using.
  • The interface is clean and easy to navigate. The restorations are easy and direct
  • Restoring files and versions of previous files is very easy
  • It does not require a dedicated server to run its software
  • It is simple to make backup copies of files for DR
  • The configurations require much more extensive work.
  • Can not replicate to older models, for example from a 190 to a 390.
It is a tool that fulfills its goals and make backups and restorations of important information. If you use the replication in the cloud, it gives you the satisfaction that the data is safe. It is excellent for small and medium companies, but for companies with a large amount of terabytes per day, it could be be very slow and expensive.

Barracuda backup is being used across the whole organization. We are currently using it as our backup platform as well as for all of our archiving. It makes it easy for our company to feel safe knowing that our systems are properly backed up.

  • Backing up systems is easy and comprehensive . It is easy to restore files or systems.

My company has a Barracuda Backup appliance in place for our primary solution. The entire company's data is stored in the appliance as well as all server and database configurations. It automatically replicates all data to the Barracuda cloud servers for offsite backups.
  • Thorough selection list with customized data sets per server.
  • Customizable schedule for all data sources and customizable data retention policies.
  • Restorability based on data age and saves space with deduplication and "smart" backup plans.
  • Minor selection list issues default to "deselected" meaning unchecking a single tree of folders with new additions below the selected do not automatically get backed up.
  • Funky message-level backups of Exchange require manually adding new users to the scheme or leaving several mailboxes to error out on reports if leaving "All selected".
  • Compliance requirements that limit offsite cloud storage option leave "not-ready-for-prime time" copy to an external hard drive that can be rotated offsite. This software is installed on a server with the external drive connected but does NOT function as well as it should.
The backup appliances are designed around overall storage space, not number of agents or databases. This means that there is a device for any company regardless of their data capacity needs. It is, by far, the best complete backup solution.

  • 4 year refresh cycle (with a larger more powerful appliance)
  • The first couple setups that we did were confusing (regarding retention settings), but once you get the hang of it its a snap
  • If you are using large SQL databases or have a big Info Store, you may undersize the appliance needed
The Barracuda Backup appliances are well suited for any company, regardless of size. They provide backups as well as true disaster recovery functionality. Backups are quick/easy as well as are restorations. The GUI is very easy to understand even for less technical people. Support at Barracuda is timely when/if questions arise. Cloud replication is encrypted. The only instances that I see that may not be a great fit, is for a company with a LOT of data and very little bandwidth (upload) available, as the replication will use a decent amount of upload resources (thankfully you can schedule the upload times and limit the amount of usage).

Barracuda backup is being used to backup Windows files servers, a Microsoft Exchange server, a Mac file server, and an SQL server. It allowed us to replicate backups offsite without having servers offsite. Prior to Barracuda backup, it was required to carry tapes offsite.
  • Barracuda's deduplication compression is really good to save space.
  • The process to restore files is very flexible and easy.
  • The backup dashboard has useful system information that is provided at glance.
  • The Barracuda portal can be accessed anywhere without configuring firewalls.
  • A better way to access network configurations.
  • A more robust error reporting.
barracuda backup is well suited for bare-metal and file backups. The fact it doesn't interface with the hypervisor for virtual backups [means] it's not a true virtual machine backup appliance.

It is being used for file level backup and SQL level database backup.
  • The user interface is very easy to use
  • The cloud storage is seemless
  • The retention policies are simple to understand and use
  • There have been some issues with downloading backed up files directly from the Barracuda cloud lately.
  • The pricing seems too high, but all of the competing backup appliances have that same issue unless you can negotiate a good deal.
It is ideal for a mid sized company with a single site. We have an 8TB unit that works well for us.

We currently use two 490 units. We use them company wide to backup our most important data along with utilizing the cloud control functionality that Barracuda offers. We backup approximately 10-12 servers including multiple shares. We run the backups on a two hour schedule to ensure the best retention of data for our users in the case of an issue.
  • The cloud control is great!! I'm able to restore files and folders from basically any machine on the Internet. I can restore either the local machine I'm using at the time, or directly to the server from which it came.
  • The user interface. Very easy to use and understand. Loads of options and configurations you can optimize for your particular needs.
  • Instance replacement. We have had an issue with one unit due to some hardware failure. Barracuda was amazing on getting this replaced quickly and getting us back on track.
  • On the restore functionality, I'd like to be able to see multiple folders revisions. Its hard to explain, but the restore function of drilling down to get certain files instead of having to download an entire folder.
  • To be able to see file / folder sizes before downloading so I could have a better idea of download times and such.
We had a to restore data from a dead server and be able to restore it to an entirely new server (bare metal) and were able to do so without any issues. I can't think of any scenarios where backups are less appropriate.

Barracuda Backup is an easy backup platform to install and use across your network. The reporting features give you piece of mind that your backups are being taken care of. There is nothing more important than making sure your business is protected from document loss and Barracuda Backup fills that need easily.
  • Easy of use is key. Installing it on the network and applying the needed resources to the servers and workstations is a snap. Understanding retention and replication is given to you at a glance.
  • Support is king. It doesn't matter how great a product is if you don't get the support from the vendor to back you up. I have always had excellent experiences talking with Barracuda support.
  • It's hard to point out any flaws other than perhaps the price point can be a little high for smaller businesses. But you need to weigh that against total data loss.
Great for mid to large size businesses that want hands on control of their backups with the security of offsite storage. Keeps the process pretty hands off once it is in place so you do not need constant overhead over handling your backups.

We use the Barracuda to back up all of our virtual servers across the whole organization. It provides secure backup and redundancy in the event of an emergency.
  • Full backup and incrementals for all our servers.
  • Granular restore at a file level if needed.
  • Cloud storage for archived backups.
  • The UI could be a little more intuitive as sometimes it's confusing to find certain menu options.
Barracuda's solutions work well in the enterprise environment as it provides business continuity and granular restore at the file level.
