BarTender is a versatile software solution that has been widely adopted by various departments within our company. One of the primary use cases for BarTender is the design and printing of labels for medical devices, including product and regulatory labels with barcodes and QR codes. This ensures accurate identification and tracking of these devices throughout their lifecycle.

In addition to medical devices, BarTender is also used by OEMs to create customized labels that meet their specific needs. This flexibility allows them to tailor the labels according to their branding requirements and ensure consistency across their products.

Multiple departments, ranging from program management to shipping and manufacturing operations, rely on BarTender for label printing. This enables efficient and streamlined processes as labels can be printed on-demand as needed. The software is not limited to internal use either, as our assembly partners also utilize BarTender for their labeling needs.

One notable feature of BarTender is its ability to create batch prints for a specific range of serial numbers linked to test stations. This functionality greatly enhances efficiency in production and quality control processes by automating the printing of labels associated with each device.

Currently, BarTender is being used at one of our manufacturing sites, with plans to roll it out to all four sites in the near future. This expansion reflects the reliability and effectiveness of the software in meeting our label design and printing requirements.

Moreover, BarTender offers support for different media types, allowing us to design labels for stock and various materials. Its integration with cloud-based ERP systems further enhances usability by enabling seamless label printing directly from these systems. By automating tasks such as printing pallet tags, SKU labels, and other warehouse management functions, BarTender contributes significantly to optimizing operational efficiency.

The automation function within BarTender plays a crucial role in our workflow by monitoring designated folders for text files dropped by our ERP and WMS systems. These files are then converted into printable labels using BarTender templates. This automated process reduces manual effort and ensures accuracy in label printing.

To accommodate our specific needs, we utilize the BarTender Enterprise Automation version for tasks like printing bulk case labels and pallet rack labels. Additionally, BarTender is utilized to print labels for quarantined and released items in production, including bin labels, serial labels, and any other labels required by our operations.

In summary, BarTender provides a comprehensive solution for designing and printing labels across various industries. Its features such as barcode and QR code support, customization options, batch printing, and automation capabilities make it a valuable tool for improving efficiency and accuracy in labeling processes. By using BarTender, our company can ensure that medical devices are properly identified and tracked, meet regulatory requirements, and maintain brand consistency.

Furthermore, BarTender's integration with cloud-based ERP systems allows for seamless label printing directly from these systems. This eliminates the need for manual data entry and reduces the chances of errors. Whether it's printing pallet tags, SKU labels, or performing other warehouse management functions, BarTender's automation function streamlines our operations by monitoring designated folders for text files dropped by our ERP and WMS systems. Once these files are detected, the software automatically converts them into printable labels using pre-defined BarTender templates.

The ability to print bulk case labels and pallet rack labels is another key use case of BarTender Enterprise Automation version. This feature is especially useful when dealing with large quantities of inventory or managing a warehouse environment. Additionally, BarTender plays a vital role in managing product quality by printing labels for quarantined and released items in production. This ensures proper identification and segregation of items during quality control processes.

BarTender is also relied upon for printing bin labels, serial labels, and any other labels required for our specific operational needs. The software's flexibility enables us to design and print labels on various media types, ensuring compatibility with different materials used in our production processes.

As we look to the future, we plan to expand the usage of BarTender to all of our manufacturing sites within the next 1-2 years. This demonstrates our confidence in the software's ability to address our labeling requirements effectively across multiple locations.

Overall, BarTender provides a comprehensive solution for designing, printing, and automating label production for medical devices and beyond. Its versatile features and ease of integration with existing systems make it an invaluable tool for streamlining operations, improving accuracy, and maintaining compliance in label management.

Database Integration for Efficient Printing: Many reviewers have found the ability to use a database to print a large quantity of labels with various data inputs to be crucial for their production departments. This feature simplifies their workflow and saves time by automatically populating labels with the required information.

Convenient Serialization of Labels: The option to serialize labels each time they print has been highly valued by multiple users. They find it really convenient and important in ensuring accuracy. BarTender performs this task exceptionally well, allowing users to get multiple copies of each serial number if needed.

Difficulties with Custom Labels: Some users have found it challenging to incorporate custom labels into templates created from scratch. They have expressed frustration in understanding the process of adding personalized labels and integrating them seamlessly into their designs. Printing Issues Across Computers: Several reviewers have experienced problems when trying to print the same label from different computers. This inconsistency in printing has caused inconvenience for users who rely on multiple devices for their label printing needs. Text Cut-off on Templates: Users have mentioned that they find it frustrating to figure out why some text gets cut off within the print bounds on a template. This issue not only affects the aesthetic appeal of the labels but also creates difficulties in conveying complete information on printed materials.

Users have made several recommendations based on their experiences with Bartender. Firstly, many users recommend using the printer drivers from Seagull Scientific instead of the default Windows drivers. They find this option to be more reliable and efficient for label printing.

Secondly, it is commonly recommended that Bartender is the best label designing software for label printers. Users appreciate its capabilities and find it suitable for their label design needs.

Lastly, some users suggest checking with the vendor to see if Bartender can link into other programs for autoprinting labels. This feature could automate the label printing process and improve efficiency for certain workflows.

It's important to note that while many users think Bartender does everything they need, there are mentions of less satisfactory customer support and longer response times. Therefore, prospective users should be aware of this potential drawback.

Additionally, some users advise having someone competent with software available during the initial stages of getting acquainted with Bartender. This can facilitate a smooth transition and ensure optimal usage of the software.

We currently use Bartender to auto print pallet tags, SKU labels, among other WMS functions. We use the automation function heavily to watch folders for text files dropped by our ERP and WMS systems, which then in turn use Bartender templates to print at the point of merchandise receipt at the dock.
  • Very flexible.
  • Lots of automation options.
  • Scales to very high volumes.
  • Very clunky UI.
  • Resource-heavy application.
  • Confusing array of sub-applications.
Bartender may well be suited for larger companies who have people with Bartender experience, but it is an unnecessarily complex suite of apps that takes some getting used to. Smaller IT shops looking for something more user-friendly, slightly less expensive, and more streamlined should look for alternatives. Some applications are built specifically to use Bartender template files, and in those cases, you may not have an alternative.

BarTender is being used by several Dept internally (R&D, Eng and ET) and also by our assembly partners. BarTender allows us to create batch prints for define database range of serial numbers linked to tests stations.
  • Can create macros to test ranges of serial numbers
  • can be linked to electrical test stations in assembly of electronic modules
  • A bit difficult to see actual template positioning of elements when designing labels
Very well suited for multiple barcodes and type of barcodes on one label. Can be adapted to ones particular needs, quite customizable.
A bit difficult to get used to, it takes some time and is not as user friendly as other applications.

BarTender is currently used by one of our Manufacturing sites. It is on the roadmap to roll BarTender out to all 4 of our sites of the next 1-2 years in line with our new ERP system. It currently allows us design our labels for our stock. We use it to create multiple different labels for different medias. It also allows us to print our labels from a cloud based ERP system.
  • Intuitive - Loads of Options
  • Easy to Use - The documentation included is easy to Follow
  • Reliable - Very minimal issues
  • Resource Intensive - Can use a lot of resources
  • Pricey - But you get what you pay for
  • Licensing can be quite difficult to understand
The integrations that you can create allow you to pick up multiple different file type and carry out multiple different tasks. We use to to connect to Azure File Shares where our ERP system outputs CSV files. The integration then scans this directory for any new .CSV files and then carries out the steps to print a label that we designed using their design software.

Our company uses BarTender to print many different types of labels for use on medical devices. We use the software to design and print medical device product and regulatory labels that have specific barcodes and QR requirements. We recommend it to many OEMs for designing customized labels to fit their needs. The labels are printed by many different departments including program management, shipping, and manufacturing operations.
  • The ability to design labels quickly with templates or from scratch
  • The ability to use a database to print a large quantity of labels with various data inputs is critical for our requirements.
  • The ability to serialize is really convenient.
  • Sometimes using custom labels can be difficult to incorporate into a label if the template is made from scratch.
  • Often have issues trying to print the same label from different computers
  • It can be irksome to figure out why some text gets cut off when it shows up within the print bounds on a template.
BarTender is great for use with databases. Setting up a database can take a little bit of time, but if you need to print hundreds or thousands of labels with different data, this is the best way to tackle it. I also love how you can import a photo or PDF of a label to help position where you would like the specific text to print on the label.

We currently use BarTender Enterprise Automation version for printing bulk case labels and pallet rack labels. We also print labels for quarantined and released items in production.
  • Automation: BarTender Print Station provides a great way to present label templates for mass printing to non-technical end users.
  • Data input at print time: we're able to input dynamic values that constantly change, just before printing labels. This increases efficiencies and is crucial in our production department. It's easy to do, and we can lock it down to specific templates.
  • Serialization: being able to easily run batches of serialized labels, and trusting that they’re accurate, is very important. BarTender does this very well.
  • Label design: Creating bee labels in BarTender Designer is intuitive and robust. With its many collaboration features, we can do a lot within our complicated environment. Many labels, many variations, and they are all easily handled by a designer.
  • Licensing: argggh! Their draconian licensing model can stop you in your tracks if you’re not careful. It’s per printer, not seat, so errant print jobs can exceed your licenses. Be careful!
  • Interaction with the cloud: we recently moved to Box and have yet to figure out a way to utilize Print Station with our cloud database. If there’s a way to do it, it’s not well documented.
  • Support: if you’re not paying for premium support, expect an email response within 24 hours. Telephone support is good, but we’ve sometimes had to leave a message and wait...
BarTender’s a great, robust application for the mass printing of bulk labels. It also integrates well with other systems. For printing small batches, which is a manual process, the fee Zebra Label Designer may be a better option.
