Does What It Says It Does
It is used as a data management solution across the backend of our company. We have used it to address issues that we were having with the scalability of our previous management solution. Berkely offers several features that made it a standout product in our eyes, such as its recoverable ACID transactions and multiple isolation levels.
- Very scalable solution for larger companies
- Offers Btree, Queue, Recno, and Hash data indexes
- Implementation was difficult
- Customer service not always best
- Made us more scalable
- Gave us cleaner data
Seemed better across the board in terms of its features and offerings. However, it is also a bit more pricy than other options that we considered, at least as of a few years ago when we were on our software hunt. We're happy with the product in many ways, even though it is pricy.

The most mature NoSQL database system!
Our whole organisation is using Oracle Berkeley DB for all the use cases which involve a necessity for an embedded database for storing key-value types of data. Simplicity of this database management system allows our company to solve problems much easier when compared to solving the same type of problems with any classic relational database.
- Supports multiple concurrent processes manipulating databases as large as 256 TB.
- There are existing API bindings for the most common languages on the market i.e. C++, C#, Java, Perl, PHP, Python.
- Provides a high-performance data storage.
- Not suitable for tasks performed better by relational database systems.
- No constraints on the record's data can be sometimes troublesome.
- Oracle provides support with excellent money/value ratio.
- Ease of maintaining of Berkeley DB by DevOps team introduced significant savings.
In our opinion Oracle Berkeley DB is the most mature solution outperforming other vendors in several aspects. Its high and solid stable performance has huge significance to us and to our customers. Wide spread community of Berkeley DB users is a valuable source of information. Also high quality support provided by Oracle makes solving any emerging issues super fast and easy.
