Reviews
(151-175 of 436)Great product that grows with you!
- Payment options
- Display options for product content
- Functions well with other platforms
- Great customer service
- International languages, currency communication, needs other apps
- Doesn’t have a way of supporting charities easily
- Almost too customizable where you need to know code to make simple changes
Why we use BC
- Easy updates.
- Intuitive product population and order management.
- Ability to customize front end.
- Gift cards are not user-friendly with any of the 3 POS solutions we've used, so it's hard for customers who buy online gift cards to use in the store, they are however easy to use on the BigCommerce site.
- Creating product options and option sets outside of a specific product takes more time than it should. It would be nice to be able to create that all within a product page vs. having to leave the product page and go into the option sections, then back into the product page.
- Ease of use for importing and exporting items.
- Good integration for middleware.
- Support is responsive.
- CSS is intimidating for customization.
- Importing is easy but tricky as far as updating product images.
Great for a first e-commerce website
- User Friendly - Easy to learn for new users.
- Promotions - Easy to launch and manage website promotions.
- Integration - Can be integrated with ERP platforms.
- Speed - During peak times BigCommerce sites are slower than comparable platforms. Even when fully optimized, they are slow. The sample stores fall into the same speed category. It's embarrassing.
- Source Code Files - Having limited access to files makes it harder to customize and optimize. We need access for the .htaccess file.
- App Store - It is lacking compared to OpenCart.
BigCommerce has limited customization and ability. Not recommended for customers looking to upgrade from an existing platform like Shopify or OpenCart. Also it does not have any multi-store capability.
A new view. New to eCommerce platforms.
- Orders are readily available with all pertinent information. Multiple search options make any one customer easy to find. Customer accounts can also easily be adjusted when necessary for changes after being placed, but before being charged. Sometimes customers don't realize there is an error until they review the email received after ordering and then it's a hassle. Big Commerce eliminates that hassle.
- Website product adjustments and updates are pretty simple. The system is easy to upload images to, add info or even shut off viewing until the product is ready.
- We have multiple websites for different products and having the ability to personalize them individually is great. Different themes and setups are necessary and made available by BigCommerce.
- My main struggle has been with multiple sites sharing data to the same web page. We had a popup that we didn't know where it came from, it took many moons to figure it out. Turns out it was another site. I don't know if there is anyway for BigCommerce to know that because we tried several fixes and found it on another site's 'popup' feature.
- We do have a different site that manages the reviews on our web page. So that feature is not utilized.
- Free Shipping is an option to turn on or off for each product. It would be nice if that feature had more options (like the coupon codes do). Maybe we could have free shipping on domestic packages, but not out of the country since fees are extremely different.
Little company wins big with BigCommerce
- Very detailed product description options allows us to showcase our products one-by-one. The multiple options to customize how you can showcase your product is extremely helpful.
- The back-end user home page is the "control center" for managing all incoming orders. It has numerous ways to interact with your orders and communicate with your customers.
- The back-end "control center" allows you to manage your products by category, brand, color, etc. When you have 1000's of products, trying to find it without "professional" skus can be challenging. BC allows you to search with just words.
- When I add new inventory to a particular product, how do I then know what I started with originally? I don't know how many of a particular product I sold if I re-order and then "up" the inventory.
- I find it impossible to do my taxes in a simple, streamlined way. I don't actually know the COGS or the profit at the end of the year.
It's powerful, flexible, and help is always available
- Easy to use/navigate, you don't need to be a coder/programmer to use it. We switched from Magento and were so tired of always having to hire someone for the smallest tasks that we couldn't complete on our own.
- Excellent customer service - They are always available (amazing), courteous and knowledgeable. This alone is worth the purchase.
- Solid platform, no glitches or things to figure out on your own. No chance of being hacked (this happened to us!).
- Great knowledge base and forum to ask questions. Their own people also comment and add to the conversation. You can submit your ideas and they are responsive - They implemented one of my mine.
- One of BigCommerce's selling points is that they are the only e-commerce platform that is B2B AND B3C ready out of the box. That is true to some extent, but there are things that are basic functionalities missing. You can have customer groups (wholesale, retail, etc) But there is no way to create sales reports by customer group! To know your store's performance in each group you have to use a work-around and export all orders and tally them up yourself. This needs to change.
- There is a known issue with Google Analytics and BC's data, they acknowledge it when we've called about it, people have complained about it in forums, but hasn't been solved. Again, the only way to get accurate numbers is to export all orders and tally it up yourself. In essence your data in Google Analytics, BigCommerce own "store performance" home screen when you log into your store's back end, and what you tally up are three different values. They should be identical. We are talking # of orders, total sales, etc. Really essential stuff.
- To put products on sale for just one customer group (as opposed to store wide for all groups - which is rarely the case when you run both a wholesale and retail business) you have to create promotions for each single product you want to put on sale, and yes, promotions can have a condition that restricts them to a single customer group - but you have to do it for every single product you put on sale. Unless you have an entire category on sale - which for us it is rare.
The key partner that helps grow our business
- Uptime: Site availability is surely second to none.
- SaaS platform: We don't have to worry about cyber attacks and the like.
- Great availability of developers: Developer partners are in abundance. Easy to find the right dev to fit our budget.
- Discount system: Needs improving and more functionality. This is actually in current development so fingers crossed will be released next year.
- Better stock management: Would be good to see some purchase order-receiving/stock-taking functionality built-in.
- Better product management: Adding products easy could be improved. Again, this is available but only to new stores. Hope for migration for old stores in the future.
Flexible platform with top-notch customer service
- Easy order management.
- Detailed variants and rules for complex products.
- Excellent technical support.
- Bulk editing system for products needs improvement, not all product information is editable in bulk.
- Content management for pages and blog posts could be better
BigCommerce for the win!
- API Documentation
- Social Media Integration and Sales
- Support
- We would like to see a better marketplace
- Native drop shipping support could be better
- Better pricing
- Uptime.
- Customizability.
- Ease of use.
- There are not many free stock themes, and the ones that are available still take some custom coding know-how to make it look great.
- It's difficult to control key parts of the website without custom code, mainly the navigation menus (although they say this will be fixed in 2020).
- Some pricing features are limited unless you're on their high-cost enterprise plan. However, most of their stock pricing feature are still lightyears ahead of Shopify's out-of-the-box capabilities.
Overall thumbs up for BigCommerce
- Creating pages and categories is very intuitive and easy to navigate. Much easier than other platforms I've used.
- Good user experience for our customers - easy to checkout.
- Easy integrations with other platforms to streamline the customer experience
- Very limited in creating coupon codes or cart-level discounts. I don't have ability to create multi-level options.
- Blog page is very lacking and not at all up to current standards. The template should be set up to mimic a platform like WordPress.
- No ability to create private landing pages that can be used for a campaign.
- No ability to create forms. I have to use a third-party site and integrate it with the current site.
Trust BigCommerce
- They listen to the customer
- Monthly live meetings
- Innovative
- Cost of web templates.
- Email which is no longer.
- Easy to add products and orders. I love that aspect.
- Quick to see orders status and track what is happening with what orders.
- SEO seems to be very good with BigCommerce as people find us easily on Google.
- I tried Shopify and could not believe how much they require as extra that BigCommerce has a standard.
- I've been asking for the last 6 years for a back-order feature. I falsely set my inventory more than I actually have so people can still order the product when not in stock. It's usually only a short time before I have more so FFS let me have a back-order feature. It's stupid to make the product unavailable when not in stock. Let me take my customer's money, please.
- I miss the old Analytics. Also, let me add more reports based on the data given easily. Like what states I sell to compared to the others. At the moment I need to export to Excel and stuff around for ages to get this info. Not happy about that.
BigCommerce for the Little Company
- It organizes orders in an easy to find/follow format, providing all the information you need on the same screen.
- It helps assist with workflow communication when multiple people are working on the same order.
- It's easy to search for past orders.
- It's intuitive to use.
- We have many variations on each of our numerous products, and we are not limited here. It's easy to integrate with our website.
- Notifications that an order has a new note could be more prominent and visible. People have to remember to check the notes.
- It would be nice if you could process refunds for Braintree etc direct from the Orders page, or if you still had to manually refund them from your secondary payment sources, if BigCommerce could be updated without having to do it manually there as well.
- I don't like the frequency of the need to enter manual verification codes into our computers and our employee computers to use the site.
Reliable , inexpensive platform from startup to established business
- Support has become really great over time
- Reliable platform - interruptions are rare and short
- Our main beef is the fact that they are selling in the United States and use state definition like 'California' instead of the Postal required CA. We have to use additional software like shipper HQ which then converts it. Can't understand why this is not corrected for every country's unique requirements.
- Big Commerce does an excellent job in focusing on marketing and interaction with social sites etc. For sites like ours, we feel that basics of just running and functioning are passed by.
Basic review - small business
I pretty much do everything myself
- Has the capacity for a large number of SKUs
- Easy to use at the back end even for those who aren't technically proficient
- 24 hour support
- Checkout page - I'd like to be able to customise it more without having to go for a full custom checkout
- Coupon codes - it's hard to see where to add them
- The automatic related products could be more relevant i.e. On a bra page customers are pointed to more bras but it woudl be great if the system could identify compatible items like briefs
BigCommerce allowed me to start my dream business
- Really easy to use, the interface is clean and manageable. You don't feel overwhelmed.
- Easy to contact customer service. There were a couple of occasions where I contacted the support team via online chat and they were very quick and helpful.
- There are a good number of apps available which are really easy to integrate into your store and help give you more features.
- I wanted to open another store selling party accessories and it would have been nice if there are discounts available for opening more stores.
- It would be great to see a few more options for free themes.
- Easy to have a professional looking website without being technically savvy.
- If you need help, they are just a phone call away.
- Their website is very easy to use.
- Our website has been "successful" enough that they just TRIPLED my expenses... A jump from $89 - to $249US/month which is VERY frustrating for a small business owner.
- We purchased a new theme - it's not working right and no one can seem to help fix it. This should be matter of a refund and a new option for free... It's not the customers fault that the theme can't seem to size images correctly.
- Support phone calls can be VERY time consuming - but their staff is always friendly and helpful.
Happy Customer's Review of BigCommerce
- Easy to add items to our store
- Great integration with Square
- Easy inventory managment
- Great customer support
- I would like it to be easier to adjust templates
Small Maker + Big Commerce = Two Enthusiastic Thumbs Up
- The support team is always available. I've never had an issue that couldn't be solved.
- Great ease of use, and super helpful tutorials, so I rarely even need to call support.
- Great selection of Website templates!
- I honestly don't have any right now.
Easy, powerful, big for our business.
- The software scales very well. You can easily grow a business from a hobby to 8 figures in revenue using the same infrastructure.
- The API works great. From popular CRM systems (Infusionsoft) to proprietary fulfillment systems, BigCommerce will integrate with whatever you throw at it.
- Flexible but powerful architecture. BigCommerce uses a "theme" system, similar to Wordpress, where your DEVs will find many familiar web programming elements (CSS/HTML/PHP) alongside a widget/panel system which simplifies many things.
- Themes need to be updated every so often and that can be costly. In the last 5-7 years, BigCommerce has evolved its back-end architecture and theme formats multiple times. Thus, if you spent thousands of dollars on a design, you will need to understand that you may need to spend thousands more when they update something and you don't have access to the new functionality.
- Support is just OK. If something goes wrong, even as an enterprise client (top tier of the software), you may be told that something doesn't work because of your particular theme or customization that were made. You will then need to have your own DEVs fix the issue.
- It's not as easy to use out of the box as some offerings from competitors. BigCommerce is powerful but there's more of a learning curve than with Shopify, for example.
BigCommerce is less appropriate for someone who is not tech savvy or who does not have easy/affordable access to someone who is.
- Selection of business related apps that integrate easily
- Easy updating of website themes
- Easy to understand dashboard
- Need more expansive and easier to use bulk edit. Currently the bulk edit does not include all fields necessary.
- Newsletters on how to run online retailing business. Shopfiy does an excellent job of communicating the latest and most current trends.
I like BigCommerce
- Site design templates provide many ways to customize your site.
- Back end enables easy viewing of order status as well as offering your store a multitude of settings to ensure your processes are just the way you want them.
- Add ins provide extra functional to your web store. We use a data feed add in which allows us to upload over 30,000 product quickly and adjust pricing, availability, and other attributes of our inventory.
- Customizing order status and sending customized emails based on that status could be better implemented. When we have to relay information to a customer, having an email trigger by changing the order status would better enable us to quickly avoid customer service snafus.
- Add ins don’t always install properly and it takes additional effort or a call to either BigCommerce or the add in vendors support line.
Offers a lot of options, great tech support, but detail work can be overwhelming for smaller family businesses
- Tech support is excellent. And they are nice! No question is too small.
- Offers a good variety of choices for website presentation
- Offers free sales tax integration...this is huge for me
- Haven't had a lot of success with the search content when I have a specific problem. You have to go thru whole article or listen to whole video and then most times my question is still not answered. Most times now I do not even bother. Just call tech support.
- I find it hard to add colors or sizes or multiple options to a product. Still haven't figured it out. And that is huge for me. Need something easier to understand or more intuitive.
- Hard to arrange products under classifications in the order you want or if you want to change. Sometimes have to go back and rearrange a whole classification one product at a time if you want to feature it.
- You need a place where you can record tasks...ie promotion for October on tennis posts...when promotion is over either BigCommerce reminds you or it automatically removes promotion from product.
