[It's used to] Sell products on line with our own rules, offers and service.
  • Payment options
  • Display options for product content
  • Functions well with other platforms
  • Great customer service
  • International languages, currency communication, needs other apps
  • Doesn’t have a way of supporting charities easily
  • Almost too customizable where you need to know code to make simple changes
Well suited for selling alike minded products. Less appropriate for “Etsy” boutique selling.

BigCommerce is what we use for our sole e-commerce platform.
  • Easy updates.
  • Intuitive product population and order management.
  • Ability to customize front end.
  • Gift cards are not user-friendly with any of the 3 POS solutions we've used, so it's hard for customers who buy online gift cards to use in the store, they are however easy to use on the BigCommerce site.
  • Creating product options and option sets outside of a specific product takes more time than it should. It would be nice to be able to create that all within a product page vs. having to leave the product page and go into the option sections, then back into the product page.
For a small business, we've invested in 3 different websites in the past 7 years. The first 2 were custom builds, and this last iteration was a custom design within BigCommerce. It's very cost effective and easy to keep up with technology with the BigCommerce platform and offerings.

Our website and eCommerce presence. Informational for location, etc.
  • Ease of use for importing and exporting items.
  • Good integration for middleware.
  • Support is responsive.
  • CSS is intimidating for customization.
  • Importing is easy but tricky as far as updating product images.
eCommerce is amazing although some competitors (Shopify) have a nice look. Not as suited for specific niches like photographers, etc.

BigCommerce is used to drive our online sales as well as provide brand awareness for our 15 retail stores. It provides real time inventory to our customers and helps them make informed decisions.
  • User Friendly - Easy to learn for new users.
  • Promotions - Easy to launch and manage website promotions.
  • Integration - Can be integrated with ERP platforms.
  • Speed - During peak times BigCommerce sites are slower than comparable platforms. Even when fully optimized, they are slow. The sample stores fall into the same speed category. It's embarrassing.
  • Source Code Files - Having limited access to files makes it harder to customize and optimize. We need access for the .htaccess file.
  • App Store - It is lacking compared to OpenCart.
Great for companies just starting in the e-commerce world. Great for a first platform but I would not recommend it to large volume e-commerce retailers. It is ideal for 10 or less customers on a website at the same time.
BigCommerce has limited customization and ability. Not recommended for customers looking to upgrade from an existing platform like Shopify or OpenCart. Also it does not have any multi-store capability.

We use BigCommerce to manage our website. We have a couple of employees no longer with us, which left learning the program up to myself and my IT person. We only sell some products online so it is a very huge benefit to have tutorials and a help center to address concerns. Sometimes it's simply updating a product image or verbiage, adding new products, or removing older products. Other times we have to revamp and update entire sections or add sections. Our social media team works on with IT for those. Recently we had a popup that I didn't know where it came from and how to adjust it. BigCommerce provides tools to make this process pretty easy. I have never done this before so maneuvering has been a challenge that I feel capable of now. There are many more tools available to me that I still need to learn about to get the full benefit.
  • Orders are readily available with all pertinent information. Multiple search options make any one customer easy to find. Customer accounts can also easily be adjusted when necessary for changes after being placed, but before being charged. Sometimes customers don't realize there is an error until they review the email received after ordering and then it's a hassle. Big Commerce eliminates that hassle.
  • Website product adjustments and updates are pretty simple. The system is easy to upload images to, add info or even shut off viewing until the product is ready.
  • We have multiple websites for different products and having the ability to personalize them individually is great. Different themes and setups are necessary and made available by BigCommerce.
  • My main struggle has been with multiple sites sharing data to the same web page. We had a popup that we didn't know where it came from, it took many moons to figure it out. Turns out it was another site. I don't know if there is anyway for BigCommerce to know that because we tried several fixes and found it on another site's 'popup' feature.
  • We do have a different site that manages the reviews on our web page. So that feature is not utilized.
  • Free Shipping is an option to turn on or off for each product. It would be nice if that feature had more options (like the coupon codes do). Maybe we could have free shipping on domestic packages, but not out of the country since fees are extremely different.
I do not know how to code, so the info available here has been very useful and helpful and easy to learn and use given my lack of knowledge. If you were well-versed in coding and could write your own web page I imagine you wouldn't need it. That is not the case here. I still feel that it would make adding data so much easier even if you could do it all yourself. The reports and data compiled also seem easy to access without having to set up spreadsheets and compile data.

We selected BigCommerce as our e-commerce platform to launch our online retail boutique. It serves are our interface between our customers and our products. We use it to manage our business on the back end as well: tracking inventory, managing orders, issuing refunds, etc. The BigCommerce platform is ideal for us as it has so many built-in tools to help with our business.
  • Very detailed product description options allows us to showcase our products one-by-one. The multiple options to customize how you can showcase your product is extremely helpful.
  • The back-end user home page is the "control center" for managing all incoming orders. It has numerous ways to interact with your orders and communicate with your customers.
  • The back-end "control center" allows you to manage your products by category, brand, color, etc. When you have 1000's of products, trying to find it without "professional" skus can be challenging. BC allows you to search with just words.
  • When I add new inventory to a particular product, how do I then know what I started with originally? I don't know how many of a particular product I sold if I re-order and then "up" the inventory.
  • I find it impossible to do my taxes in a simple, streamlined way. I don't actually know the COGS or the profit at the end of the year.
We find BigCommerce to be the ideal e-commerce platform for our business. When we were researching suitable solutions, BigCommerce ticked all our boxes. We haven't had a single problem that couldn't be addressed by their amazing internal support team. We are a small business but BigCommerce can very easily grow with us. The platform is amazing in how easy it is to learn. And, if you can't figure it out, just chat with their team online and they will show you exactly how to do something.

BigCommerce is our online e-commerce platform - We sell to both wholesale and retail customers. We use it across the whole organization and it is the main gateway for retail purchases and for smaller wholesale accounts.
  • Easy to use/navigate, you don't need to be a coder/programmer to use it. We switched from Magento and were so tired of always having to hire someone for the smallest tasks that we couldn't complete on our own.
  • Excellent customer service - They are always available (amazing), courteous and knowledgeable. This alone is worth the purchase.
  • Solid platform, no glitches or things to figure out on your own. No chance of being hacked (this happened to us!).
  • Great knowledge base and forum to ask questions. Their own people also comment and add to the conversation. You can submit your ideas and they are responsive - They implemented one of my mine.
  • One of BigCommerce's selling points is that they are the only e-commerce platform that is B2B AND B3C ready out of the box. That is true to some extent, but there are things that are basic functionalities missing. You can have customer groups (wholesale, retail, etc) But there is no way to create sales reports by customer group! To know your store's performance in each group you have to use a work-around and export all orders and tally them up yourself. This needs to change.
  • There is a known issue with Google Analytics and BC's data, they acknowledge it when we've called about it, people have complained about it in forums, but hasn't been solved. Again, the only way to get accurate numbers is to export all orders and tally it up yourself. In essence your data in Google Analytics, BigCommerce own "store performance" home screen when you log into your store's back end, and what you tally up are three different values. They should be identical. We are talking # of orders, total sales, etc. Really essential stuff.
  • To put products on sale for just one customer group (as opposed to store wide for all groups - which is rarely the case when you run both a wholesale and retail business) you have to create promotions for each single product you want to put on sale, and yes, promotions can have a condition that restricts them to a single customer group - but you have to do it for every single product you put on sale. Unless you have an entire category on sale - which for us it is rare.
BigCommerce claims it is out of the box ready for B2B as well as B2C. I think it needs to have some major modifications to claim that statement to be completely true on the B2B side. It works great as a B2C platform. and even better if you only have one customer group (retail OR wholesale). For this purpose, it is golden. If you run both a wholesale and retail business that claim is a bit lofty. As an example, we have lost $245 on an order because a wholesale customer got a hold of a retail coupon with a discount and used it, and because the platform didn't restrict coupon codes by customer group they got away with it. This functionality has been fixed now as of Nov 2019, but these are the kinds of things we encounter that are not great as both a B2B as well as B2C.

We've been using BigCommerce for over 5 years now. Having moved from a previous provider where reliable uptime was becoming a major problem for our business and a lack of updates to keep up with the fast ever-changing world of online commerce we decided to test Bigcommerce. At the time it wasn't the cheapest platform it seemed, but having now been with them all these years we discovered that you get much more than what others provide as standard. Uptime over these years has been nothing but fantastic and I can honestly say that our site has only had 1 downtime of any significance. Getting reliable and value for money developers to help maintain our site was key and they are in abundance. On the update front, BC certainly has kept the development of the platform at a good pace. New features and improvements to existing ones are regular. They even take genuine customer requests into account when planning their roadmap for future development and we've been involved in the development of a couple of features which has been immensely satisfying to take part in and see the final result is being released to the full platform.
  • Uptime: Site availability is surely second to none.
  • SaaS platform: We don't have to worry about cyber attacks and the like.
  • Great availability of developers: Developer partners are in abundance. Easy to find the right dev to fit our budget.
  • Discount system: Needs improving and more functionality. This is actually in current development so fingers crossed will be released next year.
  • Better stock management: Would be good to see some purchase order-receiving/stock-taking functionality built-in.
  • Better product management: Adding products easy could be improved. Again, this is available but only to new stores. Hope for migration for old stores in the future.
Can't see anywhere BC is not suitable for. We've been using it for an online pet store and have managed to maintain a good presence and steadily growing business throughout the years we have been with BC.

BigCommerce is being used by our company in order to sell standard stock products to our customers. It has allowed us to streamline much of our sales process for customers who require standard (non-custom) products, and also those customers who wish to re-order quickly without having to speak to a sales associate.
  • Easy order management.
  • Detailed variants and rules for complex products.
  • Excellent technical support.
  • Bulk editing system for products needs improvement, not all product information is editable in bulk.
  • Content management for pages and blog posts could be better
BigCommerce is well suited for businesses that require a straightforward and reliable way to sell their products online and initial set up is easy for those who may not have a web developer on hand. It may not be well suited for companies that sell custom made products.

We use BigCommerce to deliver an exceptional user experience across multiple e-commerce brands, leveraging their exceptional API to integrate microservices and drop shipping systems and third-party integrations. We are able to create highly efficient and interactive business processes that streamline workflow, customer retention, and sales. We are able to quickly integrate much of this because of the exceptional job BigCommerce has done with their API documentation.

We use BigCommerce to power our eCommerce website. It makes it easy to run an eCommerce website that would otherwise take many man-hours to accomplish if we tried to do it all custom and in-house (PCI compliance, uptime, etc). We also utilize it for our website's blog and all things consumer-facing.
  • Uptime.
  • Customizability.
  • Ease of use.
  • There are not many free stock themes, and the ones that are available still take some custom coding know-how to make it look great.
  • It's difficult to control key parts of the website without custom code, mainly the navigation menus (although they say this will be fixed in 2020).
  • Some pricing features are limited unless you're on their high-cost enterprise plan. However, most of their stock pricing feature are still lightyears ahead of Shopify's out-of-the-box capabilities.
If they can handle a little bit of HTML and CSS, they should use BigCommerce. If they cannot code at all, they should make sure they are happy with some of the free themes first or be ready to hire someone to design their site for them before committing to BigCommerce.

BigCommerce is our platform for the ecommerce portion of our business. Our entire website is hosted on it but are currently in development to use the integration to WordPress so we can get better flexibility with landing pages, forms, and other content pages that are not product specific. The basis of the site is to inform our customers about our products and allow them to purchase online versus having to call in their order.
  • Creating pages and categories is very intuitive and easy to navigate. Much easier than other platforms I've used.
  • Good user experience for our customers - easy to checkout.
  • Easy integrations with other platforms to streamline the customer experience
  • Very limited in creating coupon codes or cart-level discounts. I don't have ability to create multi-level options.
  • Blog page is very lacking and not at all up to current standards. The template should be set up to mimic a platform like WordPress.
  • No ability to create private landing pages that can be used for a campaign.
  • No ability to create forms. I have to use a third-party site and integrate it with the current site.
BigCommerce is easy to work in as it is fairly intuitive to navigate the process of creating product pages, especially in the Stencil platform versus Blueprint. One of the biggest drawbacks is the inability to create some of the multi-level or intricate promo codes that we would like to offer our customers. We can't bundle products into one.

We use BigCommerce for our online retail sales channel.
  • They listen to the customer
  • Monthly live meetings

Our BigCommerce rep was very helpful and fought for us during the signup process. Without her assistance, we would have likely sought the services of another web host company. We use BigCommerce for the daily running of our business. Coupled with Xero we have the full package. Every order is input into BigCommerce first, printed, packed and shipped from there. We then use Xero to confirm payments and do your standard accounting. While we have a bricks and motor warehouse that we sell out of, all orders are put through BigCommerce.
  • Easy to add products and orders. I love that aspect.
  • Quick to see orders status and track what is happening with what orders.
  • SEO seems to be very good with BigCommerce as people find us easily on Google.
  • I tried Shopify and could not believe how much they require as extra that BigCommerce has a standard.
  • I've been asking for the last 6 years for a back-order feature. I falsely set my inventory more than I actually have so people can still order the product when not in stock. It's usually only a short time before I have more so FFS let me have a back-order feature. It's stupid to make the product unavailable when not in stock. Let me take my customer's money, please.
  • I miss the old Analytics. Also, let me add more reports based on the data given easily. Like what states I sell to compared to the others. At the moment I need to export to Excel and stuff around for ages to get this info. Not happy about that.
Suits most products and is easy to use, however, Australia lacks with shipping integrations depending on product size (large in my case).

We use it as a team to keep track of and process orders. We communicate with our customers through the system so that the notes are attached to the each order. We can make separate interdepartmental notes so that multiple people can seamlessly work on each case. We can see what type of shipping they requested, all the customer information we need on the same screen.
  • It organizes orders in an easy to find/follow format, providing all the information you need on the same screen.
  • It helps assist with workflow communication when multiple people are working on the same order.
  • It's easy to search for past orders.
  • It's intuitive to use.
  • We have many variations on each of our numerous products, and we are not limited here. It's easy to integrate with our website.
  • Notifications that an order has a new note could be more prominent and visible. People have to remember to check the notes.
  • It would be nice if you could process refunds for Braintree etc direct from the Orders page, or if you still had to manually refund them from your secondary payment sources, if BigCommerce could be updated without having to do it manually there as well.
  • I don't like the frequency of the need to enter manual verification codes into our computers and our employee computers to use the site.
Big commerce is great if you have a wide variety of products that have a wide variety of options. Other ecommerce sites could not handle our inventory. It has improved workflow communication within my company, making the shipping department more independent/needing less oversight. It has sped up the shipping process by keeping all the information easily seen and searchable.

We have started with 0 in 2010 , just around the time Big Commerce started. We are a small business drop shipping from Europe worldwide. Big Commerce has been what it should be. We built our business on their limitations and progress. Big Commerce has been stable and gave us few headaches.
  • Support has become really great over time
  • Reliable platform - interruptions are rare and short
  • Our main beef is the fact that they are selling in the United States and use state definition like 'California' instead of the Postal required CA. We have to use additional software like shipper HQ which then converts it. Can't understand why this is not corrected for every country's unique requirements.
  • Big Commerce does an excellent job in focusing on marketing and interaction with social sites etc. For sites like ours, we feel that basics of just running and functioning are passed by.
We think that Big Commerce is excellently suited for most online business. There are certainly rare exceptions. If I started another online business, it would be with Big Commerce

Helps sell online
I pretty much do everything myself
  • Has the capacity for a large number of SKUs
  • Easy to use at the back end even for those who aren't technically proficient
  • 24 hour support
  • Checkout page - I'd like to be able to customise it more without having to go for a full custom checkout
  • Coupon codes - it's hard to see where to add them
  • The automatic related products could be more relevant i.e. On a bra page customers are pointed to more bras but it woudl be great if the system could identify compatible items like briefs
I'd recommend for small businesses I'm not sure how it works for larger ecommerce businesses.

I use BigCommerce to run my balloon delivery service. Local people will log onto the website, view balloon display option, purchase and chose a delivery time. I love using BigCommerce as it allows me to add bespoke options for users to choose a delivery date, delivery time and add additional extras.
  • Really easy to use, the interface is clean and manageable. You don't feel overwhelmed.
  • Easy to contact customer service. There were a couple of occasions where I contacted the support team via online chat and they were very quick and helpful.
  • There are a good number of apps available which are really easy to integrate into your store and help give you more features.
  • I wanted to open another store selling party accessories and it would have been nice if there are discounts available for opening more stores.
  • It would be great to see a few more options for free themes.
If you're looking for a platform that allows you to build a professional online store then I really recommend BigCommerce. Its really easy to add products, customise purchasing options and their reporting features allowed you to understand interesting buying patterns such as popular items and recorded search queries in your store which I regular looked at to make sure I was stocking in-demand items. The interface is easy to use and their support/customer service is excellent.

We use BigCommerce to run our main source of business - our website. We make and sell jewellery supplies.
  • Easy to have a professional looking website without being technically savvy.
  • If you need help, they are just a phone call away.
  • Their website is very easy to use.
  • Our website has been "successful" enough that they just TRIPLED my expenses... A jump from $89 - to $249US/month which is VERY frustrating for a small business owner.
  • We purchased a new theme - it's not working right and no one can seem to help fix it. This should be matter of a refund and a new option for free... It's not the customers fault that the theme can't seem to size images correctly.
  • Support phone calls can be VERY time consuming - but their staff is always friendly and helpful.
Because of the price increase my company has recently endured I wouldn't recommend BigCommerce and I am looking at other options.

We are a nonprofit wolf/wolf dog and wild canine sanctuary. BigCommerce allows us to put our gift shop items online as well a way for shoppers to make donations to our nonprofit, become a member or sponsor an animal all in one convenient location.
  • Easy to add items to our store
  • Great integration with Square
  • Easy inventory managment
  • Great customer support
  • I would like it to be easier to adjust templates
BigCommerce is great for online stores. Selling tangible products and downloadable products is quite easy. Its applications for a non profit taking donations are more limited.

I use BigCommerce to sell art.
  • The support team is always available. I've never had an issue that couldn't be solved.
  • Great ease of use, and super helpful tutorials, so I rarely even need to call support.
  • Great selection of Website templates!
  • I honestly don't have any right now.
I use it as my e-commerce site!

We use BigCommerce as a complete storefront solution. Everyone in our organization uses this software and it allows us to efficiently address customer needs.
  • The software scales very well. You can easily grow a business from a hobby to 8 figures in revenue using the same infrastructure.
  • The API works great. From popular CRM systems (Infusionsoft) to proprietary fulfillment systems, BigCommerce will integrate with whatever you throw at it.
  • Flexible but powerful architecture. BigCommerce uses a "theme" system, similar to Wordpress, where your DEVs will find many familiar web programming elements (CSS/HTML/PHP) alongside a widget/panel system which simplifies many things.
  • Themes need to be updated every so often and that can be costly. In the last 5-7 years, BigCommerce has evolved its back-end architecture and theme formats multiple times. Thus, if you spent thousands of dollars on a design, you will need to understand that you may need to spend thousands more when they update something and you don't have access to the new functionality.
  • Support is just OK. If something goes wrong, even as an enterprise client (top tier of the software), you may be told that something doesn't work because of your particular theme or customization that were made. You will then need to have your own DEVs fix the issue.
  • It's not as easy to use out of the box as some offerings from competitors. BigCommerce is powerful but there's more of a learning curve than with Shopify, for example.
BigCommerce is well suited for a tech savvy person who wants to open an online store and anticipates high growth in revenue and/or order volume.

BigCommerce is less appropriate for someone who is not tech savvy or who does not have easy/affordable access to someone who is.

As an online retailer our entire business revolves around our website run by BigCommerce. We are a small business, so everyone has a hand in its operation and they have access to the website management. BigCommerce gives us access to many apps that help run our business more efficiently.
  • Selection of business related apps that integrate easily
  • Easy updating of website themes
  • Easy to understand dashboard
  • Need more expansive and easier to use bulk edit. Currently the bulk edit does not include all fields necessary.
  • Newsletters on how to run online retailing business. Shopfiy does an excellent job of communicating the latest and most current trends.
Any small or medium size online retailer would find BigCommerce a top provider of e-commerce services.

BigCommerce is being used to host both our general information web pages as well as our e-commerce sales platform. It is currently managed by our e-commerce specialist. We have an outsourced team the managers the design and product fees provided by our primary vendor. This specialist also manages our Amazon store as well.
  • Site design templates provide many ways to customize your site.
  • Back end enables easy viewing of order status as well as offering your store a multitude of settings to ensure your processes are just the way you want them.
  • Add ins provide extra functional to your web store. We use a data feed add in which allows us to upload over 30,000 product quickly and adjust pricing, availability, and other attributes of our inventory.
  • Customizing order status and sending customized emails based on that status could be better implemented. When we have to relay information to a customer, having an email trigger by changing the order status would better enable us to quickly avoid customer service snafus.
  • Add ins don’t always install properly and it takes additional effort or a call to either BigCommerce or the add in vendors support line.
We mostly dropship and we’ve used other platforms that have integrated with our vendors back end and would provide real time inventory status across 7 DCs. We currently do not have that functionality and can live without it, but it a great way to let your customers know if the product they are tested in is available.

To sell sports equipment to United States and Canada. We are a small family business that builds tennis courts and tracks as well as sell tennis court maintenance equipment. In 2005, we were only building and selling to a four state area, I suggested building a website to expand our selling base to the entire United States.
  • Tech support is excellent. And they are nice! No question is too small.
  • Offers a good variety of choices for website presentation
  • Offers free sales tax integration...this is huge for me
  • Haven't had a lot of success with the search content when I have a specific problem. You have to go thru whole article or listen to whole video and then most times my question is still not answered. Most times now I do not even bother. Just call tech support.
  • I find it hard to add colors or sizes or multiple options to a product. Still haven't figured it out. And that is huge for me. Need something easier to understand or more intuitive.
  • Hard to arrange products under classifications in the order you want or if you want to change. Sometimes have to go back and rearrange a whole classification one product at a time if you want to feature it.
  • You need a place where you can record tasks...ie promotion for October on tennis posts...when promotion is over either BigCommerce reminds you or it automatically removes promotion from product.
If you want your website front page presentation to be pre programmed for you, BigCommerce is good. But we want to use specific colors and layouts and unless you know code (and have a lot of time) or want to spend a ton of money paying someone else to do, you can't have what you want. I want to upgrade to Stencil BUT I want my website set up the way it is AND I do not want to lose any of my back links thru my SEO and Google AD words.
