We use it to offer all our marketplace SKUs on one site. Our main concern was how to offer our full catalog which is being sold on 20 different marketplaces on one site. We connected our catalog feed to BigCommerce and now we only refer to Bigcommerce to see all out products.
  • The apps Marketplace at BigCommerce is great, you do not have to be experts or know coding. You can use some top of the line apps which are used by big companies (fortune 500) on your own store.
  • Marketing and Coupon module is excellent. I think any one can set up coupons in 10 minutes or less and increase conversion rate by 100% to say the least.
  • Payment options is another great feature, you can offer almost all payment options thus eliminating any checkout friction. Most payment modules are so well integrated that you can do all online without speaking to any one on phone. It is not like 1990's when getting merchant account was 1 week process and massive paper work.
  • Having a better inventory and channel manager.
  • More tools and/or integration with Search Console, Merchant Center and other SEO apps.
  • Cross Border sales assistance.
It is very well suited (on pro plan) for stores with large catalog and who only have 1-2 people team to manage digital distribution.

It lacks in channel management and more marketplace integrations.

We use BigCommerce to power our website.
  • They have great stencil platforms
  • They are user friendly
  • Good customer support
  • Searching product list is hit or miss. Sometimes it just doesn't work.
  • Linking YouTube videos to product listings is very inconsistent.
  • Copy product listing feature sometime just doesn't work. The screen tries to load but goes nowhere.
BigCommerce is a great platform for anyone wanting a good looking user friendly website that does not know how to build one from the ground up.

BigCommerce is an awesome platform for small to large eCommerce businesses. Their support is top-notch and the back-end is very intuitive. The features out of the box are pretty much what you'd expect from a platform such as this. They also have a decent amount of third-party apps that extend the functionality.

I've also found the articles they product to be very helpful to understand the nuances of online marketing. I would definitely recommend it to someone that would like to start an eCommerce business. We are using it as the sole platform for our eCommerce presence. The business problem it solves is selling products online, along with keeping track of our customers and products.

BigCommerce makes it easy to add new methods of payment as well. It only took a few minutes to add digital wallets to our storefront like Apple and Google Pay. It also integrates with Square POS, so we can import our products into the Square app for use at trade shows. Lastly, the ShipperHQ app is very robust and customizable to fit our needs. We're still tweaking the settings to hone in on the right shipping rates for us, but it offers a great solution for us and our customers.
  • Easily create and update products.
  • Add and manage users.
  • Intuitive analytics to see how well you store is doing.
  • No stackable coupon codes.
  • Items that are used in a product pick list can't have options themselves.
10/10 would recommend to a friend or colleague.

[It's being used as an] Online sales window (store-front) provider for online retail of hobby-related products. Some helpful analytics of sales, products; allows posting of reviews by customers, simple and effective editing of products. Relatively low cost; good to excellent online and telephone support with good availability. Stable and good reliability (uptime), no noticeable outages affecting sales.
  • Phone support when needed
  • Interactive chat support is available, and usually able to solve any issues
  • Minimal downtime, easy to construct an online store for a beginner.
  • Sometimes on-line chat has been ineffective, or only refers to FAQ's or other docs that do not solve the problem.
  • More options for low-cost storefront designs would be helpful
  • Better assistance integrating postal options is needed
For a small home-based, craft business, it has been very good. I cannot recommend for other types, as I have no experience therewith.

I use BigCommerce to run my daily selling operations across three channels and is the main platform for my business. The integrations and support have proven to be a great resource in growing and maintaining my business. It has helped me get over the intimidating prospect of building and maintaining a website.
  • Their customer support is excellent. They always have an answer to any technical issues I experience.
  • Integrating sales channels like eBay and Amazon was easy and you can manage them right from your BigCommerce dashboard.
  • They offer a variety of website templates that can meet most eCommerce website needs.
  • The admin dashboard is pretty advanced for someone who has never had experience operating an eCommerce platform.
  • Certain templates don't work with payment gateways.
  • Monthly prices seem a little high for limited features.
For the well-seasoned online seller, BigCommerce offers the tools and apps necessary to be successful. Payment gateway integration is easy and BigCommerce doesn't charge additional fees like other platforms. They have a number of free apps that can take care of sales tax for you as well as discounted merchant rates. For the experienced seller looking to for a platform that doesn't nickel and dime everything you do, it's the perfect platform. For the inexperienced "hobby" seller, it will be a bit of a challenge learning the ins and outs of BigCommerce.

BigCommerce is the platform our website is built on.
  • Customizable optimized checkout.
  • Responsive customer service team.
  • Fast and easy to use APIs.
  • Multi-inventory.
BigCommerce strengths are: it checkout and very fast APIs, extremely easy to connect Google analytics and ads, Facebook Pixel and ads as well as leading email platforms. The critical missing piece at the moment is multi-inventory, however, this is nearing beta so it may be resolved soon. Recommended for medium to large businesses.

We Use BigCommerce for our online beverage company. I am responsible for customer care and inquiries. We set up accounts online and can segment customers and resellers so it is very convenient for us. I can reply online to customer inquiries and send them messages directly from their orders too which saves me a lot of time to keep it all in one place.
  • Ability to segment customers into different price categories.
  • Great online support especially if you are not a tech person.
  • Easy to make changes and add promotions with category discounts like buy x and get x free, etc. This is all included with no need for extra purchases.
  • We love all the features but find the cost a bit high for a small business like ours.
BigCommerce is great for business owners that do not have in-house web developers since if there is an urgent problem, the online staff help is extremely professional and knowledgeable. There is the ability to segment your customers into different pricing categories so this is great for businesses that sell to both B2B and B2C.
Running promotions like coupon codes, upsell purchases, etc., are great and easy to use. Integration with MailChimp works effectively and we have continued to use it where many others had to change their direct marketing strategies.

  • Great CustomerCare
  • Easy to use
  • Always in contact.

  • Price is a bit high

Since I sell online, it IS my business. We sell personalized products through our BigCommerce site.
  • Ease of adding new products.
  • The a.bility for customers to upload artwork.
  • The ability for me to customize templates to create a site that is my company colors, etc.
  • When adding product options, make it stay on the tab you just used instead of flipping back to the first option tab and clearing any search.
It's well suited for someone wanting to sell online. It is a bit pricey when compared to other online eCommerce hosts.

I use BigCommerce to administer my online retail website.
  • Intuitive software makes it easy to do most work yourself.
  • 24/7 support
  • Doing things without taking consideration of their results seems to be an ongoing problem having a Canadian website. Most recently, the first mandated change affecting the checkout process and printing invoices in CAD resulted in the loss of many sales as I hardly had any US orders for several weeks (compared to the normal rate of 60% of all orders). Then BigC changed it back again to what it was before and a few weeks later changed it yet again. At least this time, there were no dire consequences but it would be good if you could give advance notice of these kinds of things or at least a notification that the change has taken place.
I like BigCommerce but would let others know the problems I've experienced even when recommending to someone else.

New Knowledge Library publishes spiritual books by one author, Marshall Vian Summers. Big Commerce is behind our storefront.
  • Technical support is where I sing their praises. It is excellent. When I first started New Knowledge Library using Big Commerce, I had very little training. The tech support staff at Big Commerce was always there for me to get me up to speed.
  • Courteous, polite and knowledgeable. They have always spent whatever time it takes to problem solve. If an immediate solution was not obvious, they have always followed up in a timely manner.
  • Availability/response time, reliability. Knowing that within minutes I can get a tech support person to speak with me and one who knows what they are doing is incredibly stress-relieving. Response time is within minutes. Tech support at a publishing company we use regularly pales in comparison.
  • There is always a question asking this question after each phone call. I'm sure this approach catches anything that might need to be tweaked. Personally, I have no "cons" to report, but I know that if I did, they would respond to it quickly and follow up.
My most recent interaction involved my response to new tax laws in Colorado. I did not know how best to up the NKL store to meet these new requirements. In my mind this task seemed quite complex, however, a tech person was able to assist me. He explained to me that I didn't need to input every zip code into the system but could use an asterisk behind the first 3 numbers. He made what I thought was going to be complex and time consuming into something that was quite simple. There is also a Plan B with Avalara when we need to upgrade when our sales reach a Nexus point. That is comforting and stress-relieving.

We use BigCommerce to run our entire company website and online store. It is easy to add products and integrates very well with other third-party services for the few features it does not include.
  • Getting up and running in a very short amount of time
  • Hundreds of easily customized templates
  • Inventory management
  • Integration with just about everything
  • Some basic features such as advertising banners require a third party service.
  • The built in search engine is basic and not configurable, this is an issue if your SKU from different suppliers follow a different format.

BigCommerce is used to run our website, to convey products to our customers in a unique and exciting way. The issue we as a company run into that BigCommerce has been able to address most often is when we need to hide items from customer view when they are out of stock so that they don't need to sort through items we don't currently have, making their searches faster and the experience more enjoyable.
  • Allows the export of product data.
  • Sorting information.
  • It's easy to alter and update information.
  • Limited customer service interaction.
  • We needed certain fields to update data with spreadsheets.
  • BigCommerce needs to define the difference between a store credit and a refund in terms of status.
When we need to get photos and all the information to the customer there are fields for each one, so that we can easily make sure the customer has all of the information for each product that we sell so they can have a full understanding of what they're purchasing.
As for updating prices on items in bulk, it's a slower process because it requires that we have fields we don't need to update in order for the sheet to map.

BigCommerce is used by our company to manage our wholesale side of the business. We utilize the system from start to finish (order placing to fulfillment). It does a great job of segmenting out the different types of wholesale customers using the customer groups option. This addressed the problem of managing different types of pricing variations as well as other factors we can now customize depending on the customer group.
  • Easy store builder that allows you to create simple and clean online marketplaces.
  • Great analytics and reporting features.
  • Tech support is mostly helpful and I'm very happy with the option for live chat.
  • In the Orders page, it would be great to sort by customer group.
  • I'd like to see the ability to add "ship by" or "deliver by" date option for those not wanting immediate shipments or deliveries.
  • Daily or weekly automatic reports that can be customized and scheduled.
For small to medium-sized businesses, BigCommerce is a great solution to so many problems. It allows for scalable growth and features incredible customizability. It was exactly what our company needed when we outgrew our previous method for managing wholesale clients. I would highly recommend it to my colleagues.

BigCommerce is being used by our entire organization. Our business needed an affordable, easy-to-use platform for our web store that also offered functionality and customization.
  • BigCommerce has an amazing support team. There are rarely issues, but when an issue DOES arise... they are quick to offer a solution and/or give very accurate timelines for when the issue will be resolved. You speak to a real person, who NEVER appears to be reading a script and when you're on with them... you never feel rushed or that your call or message isn't the most important problem at that time.
  • BigCommerce has an amazing development team and they listen to their users. One of the reasons we chose BigCommerce was because of the functionality their platform offered. Of course, as with EVERY platform there are always things you'd like added that may be more specific to our own store, but we have been pleasantly surprised and grateful for the many ideas / suggestions we've made for added features or improvements that have been implemented and implemented well.
  • BigCommerce is easy to use and has amazing integrations. We've never had to "train" our employees on how to use BigCommerce, it's mostly self explanatory... unlike other, more complicated platforms we've used. We've been very happy with all of the integrations we've been able to use. There haven't been any major integrations, such as payment methods, that aren't already available and easy to setup.
  • While BigCommerce does offer a blog, it is not robust and could use some improvement. It occasionally has glitches and its editor is subpar compared to other platforms with built-in blogs.
  • The free themes available on BigCommerce are limited and paid themes are not fully supported by BigCommerce's support team.
  • The theme editor could use improvement and is often slow to respond when previewing changes. We wish there was a log that would allow you to revert back to one of your previous saves. If you make changes, and it breaks something on your site... you have to remember what changes you made and manually change them all back to find the one thing that may have broken your site. Occasionally a developer is required to make updates to themes.
BigCommerce is perfect for small-medium sized businesses that are looking for an easy-to-use and out-of-the box solution for a website with a store. It's perfect for selling online, and gives great functionality for products. However, BigCommerce is not ideal for those whose primary focus is on blogging. The blog functions are very limited and not great for serious bloggers.

BigCommerce is our web solution for an e-commerce website. It is the backbone of this operation and has been a huge improvement from Squarespace which was where our shop resided prior to the transition to BigCommerce. At this point, we use BigCommerce and applications associated with it like Shipstation which handles our fulfillment and logistics side of the operation which allows us to quickly pack and ship orders we ship with USPS thru our Stamps.com account that is connected to Shipstation for postage.

Beyond this, we've recently incorporated Eye4Fraud Application which offers services to allow us to process more orders that we may not have accepted without their insurance against fraud on the orders they approve. Having more eyes looking at our transactions for fraud is piece of mind and this application has cut back on the amount of declined orders which led to increased back and forth with customers as to why their transactions failed. International orders were problematic for individuals running their credit card multiple times with money hanging between them and their bank for days until the banks put the declined funds back on the customer's account. It allows us to process more orders we may have otherwise declined.
  • Organization of Orders
  • Organization of Products
  • Easy to use interface that can be changed with different templates and layouts.
  • BigCommerce prices their products on your yearly sales, so they help you with a lower cost if you are small and increase the price as you grow and succeed.
  • BigCommerce has great support that is available most times when you need them via chat almost instantly.
  • I've had an ongoing issue using FireFox as a browser where the Shipstation application will not launch, so I'm forced to use Safari to process the logistical side of things. It's worked out for the better in some ways as I can review other details in Firefox like looking for previous orders from the same customer while working simultaneously with Safari to generate a shipping label. Having better support to help me fix the Firefox issue would be appreciated rather than blaming Firefox for the problem.
  • At one point there were changes made on the backend of BigCommerce that the template we were using no longer supported. BigCommerce engineers helped with the transition however we can't manipulate the (Custom) option sets they created as they don't appear under our options or option sets. This means we have to create new ones ourselves if/when we want to manipulate the fields. So their fix isn't really a total fix, more like a band aid.
  • From time to time the statistics stop working or are delayed, that's really the only ongoing issue which occurs sporadically.
If you are looking for a one-stop-shop for an e-commerce website, then look to BigCommerce for a solution which you can build yourself without knowing how to code. You may need to copy and paste some scripts to get bells and whistles incorporated into your website and if you can't figure it out yourself, the BigCommerce support team is right there to help you via chat whenever you need them. If you have a super small shop with only a few items, BigCommerce may be overkill but if you plan to grow your product offerings, then it may be worth considering.

BigCommerce was our web platform of choice for our e-commerce retail outlets. We have 3 sites, 1 of which is built for the sole purpose of facilitating marketplace inventory and listings via apps (TradeMe, ebay, amazon -- and in the future, CATCH).
  • Support is quick, easy to reach out to, and pretty much always available.
  • The dashboard is easy to navigate.
  • It's able to handle a large inventory.
  • I am now finding that I would like to scale down on a plan and am unable to. Once you are locked into a higher dollar plan it is not flexible, so we are now wasting money. As our focus changes, we require flexibility.
  • The apps that we need to update our stores are not available in the BigCommerce APPS Marketplace. I am finding other website building platforms are offering much more technological advancement in the Apps stores, and are becoming increasingly easier to use. This means they are bringing much more to our business.
  • As a result, I have had to build 3 new stores for my clients on a different platform.
I've always recommended BigCommerce. In fact, I used to love it, but I am finding myself moving away...

We are a small business which sells our niche products exclusively online. We use BigCommerce (BC) as our web hosting service. Our BC page integrates with our shipping utility as well so orders are easily processed and shipped. BC is used across our whole organization. We don't really have departments. We're so small that almost everything is handled by me. Using BC has addressed problems with SEO that we've had prior to using BC. It has helped the shipping process run much more smoothly and efficiently. BC has provided what I think are nice-looking web page templates that help welcome visitors and make it easier for them to order. I am not a web developer, so with BC, I've been able to accomplish what I set out to do, with flexibility to user-friendly modification selections.
  • BigCommerce offers a wide variety of page theme templates which look nice. This makes our small business have a professional looking online presence without requiring me to be a web developer.
  • BigCommerce offers a variety of apps that are created by other companies that can be easily added and integrated on our page. For example, ShipStation which when you install, configures correctly with my page without a ton of configuration on my side. This saves time and helps me accomplish my goals of being able to ship efficiently.
  • BigCommerce has some behind-the-scenes magic that has helped my page rank to the top on Google and other search engines, without my having to do very much at all. I don't have to pay for SEO services.
  • There are some limitations to the theme templates as to what can be changed. For example, I want my Categories menu, which appears as a sidebar for desktop customers, to display at the bottom of the page for mobile customers. There's not an option for that in the template I'm using. I can probably do it by making customization to the code, but, I am not a web developer and I don't know how to do that. Mobile customers don't see it unless they somehow magically know they have to touch the button in the top left corner. I will need to create a Categories page that mobile customers can see by touching on the welcome carousel.
  • The products consistently appear too large for my tastes, in particular, on tablets. One product image takes up almost the whole screen on a tablet. The user will magically have to know that they need to scroll down to add to cart or to view the description of the product. This kind of drives me nuts.
  • The Search function, for me, is useless, and I might even say in many cases it returns the wrong products based on what my customers are searching for. There is little to no options for configuring it to select exact or phrase match results only, or, to only return results based on the product descriptions and not names of categories or pages on my site that mentions a particular word. I wish I could control exactly what it would look for. There are search apps but none of them work well for my site. Just yesterday I learned how to remove the Search completely, which is what I did successfully.
  • There is a Bulk Edit feature where you can edit multiple items at once, such as product names or prices, but it is limited. I often do have to drill in and out of each product when I make universal updates, which can take a long time.
  • I wish it had much greater flexibility for options in the checkout process. It's kind of clunky and slow in my opinion. I haven't found an app that I could use to replace the checkout module. I think it may partially depend on the template you use. I'd like my customer to have the option of buying now, to begin checking out rather than having to go to cart first.
I think BigCommerce is well suited for a small business selling products on their web page. It's well suited for individuals like me who have little web development ability. It doesn't give complete flexibility and options, but it's definitely a good start to help you accomplish the most important basic goals.

We used BigCommerce to run several different online businesses. It was being used by the entire company, from sales and marketing on the front end to fulfillment, customer retention, and customer management on the backend. BigCommerce syncs up fairly well with several other 3rd party applications that allowed us to do other things like accounting. It worked pretty well across the board and provided decent value for what we were getting out of it.
  • Simple backend design and site management tools. Pretty user friendly and simple to learn.
  • Tons of 3rd party applications in the app store, which makes it easy to find solutions to problems you might have.
  • Decent value, based on what you get for the price.
  • Price - Little overvalued when compared to some other platforms that we have found and use.
  • Speed and Consistency of Websites - We did have some load time issues and problems from time to time, so having a more solid foundation would have been good.
  • Customer Support - We seemed to get a new account manager every month or two, so having more consistency there would have been nice.
Well suited for smaller, start up companies on the web. As you start to scale and need more enterprise level features, I think that you can find them in other places. But this works well for people that don't have a developer background and don't know HTML/CSS. They can design and run a great website without knowing how to code. It works well to integrate into fulfillment software and natively has some tools that will make it easy to run a web-based business.

We use BigCommerce as the primary company website, blog and direct-to-customer sales channel for both our B2C and B2B customers. We place manual orders in the back end for POs and phone orders. It also serves as our primary catalog.
  • It comes with a lot of core features out of the box. Many other eCommerce platforms require add-ons for basic features that quickly run up costs.
  • The stencil framework is powerful and easy to work with. Customizing your theme is relatively straight forward.
  • Customer support is great. Plenty of resources to help answer questions and their customer service team is quick to respond.
  • The blog module could use some work. The WYSIWYG editor has improved these last couple of years, but it still only offers basic functionality. No way to search or filter blog posts in the back end.
  • The price lists feature has potential, but it also lacks basic usability for searching and filtering products. I still prefer customer group pricing.
  • Lack of variety of out of the box themes. Could use a more diverse theme catalog.
If you have a large catalog, serve both B2C and B2B customers, and want a lot of basic features out of the box, BigCommerce is a good fit. Their built-in customer groups module allow you to offer special pricing, custom shipping options, and category visibility. It does a really good job as both your home page and online store.

We use BigCommerce to manage an e-commerce store for our farm, which offers products for home delivery and farm market/farm store pickup. It allows us to manage our inventory with much greater ease than our previous system. We can also manage many more products and offer several pickup and delivery options. It is easy for us to add inventory while at the farm and for all farm team members to use.
  • Inventory management.
  • Extensive “shipping” options that include pickup and other delivery options.
  • Easy to add inventory variations.
  • Easy to use interface for users and customers.
  • I’d love to see an option to add inventory based on weight. So a “per weight unit” price. Currently, we have to use inventory variations and enter them for each weight available.
  • Easier shipping option for “home delivery” - though the workaround for pickup works fine.
  • The reporting feature is okay, but not as intuitive as the other sections of the interface.
We’ve adapted it well to work for a small independent farm shop. It seems like it would be easy to use for most e-commerce types of applications. I haven’t tested the features for “download” type products. I also haven’t had much success using future products or scheduled release products.

We only use BigCommerce for our wholesale portion of our E-Commerce business. It is our website & store for wholesale customers only & it is how we track and process all wholesale orders.
  • Easy to use
  • Great, detailed invoice/order details
  • Awesome 24 hour customer service
  • Better search/CSV export of ALL data
  • Updated tools for basic website building
Well suited for a smaller business with fewer customers & less inventory.

I use BigCommerce as the primary means to sell the products I develop for the quilting market.
  • Customer service - I don't think I have ever had a problem that they could not correct, either immediately or within 24 hours.
  • Problems have been very few.
  • BigCommerce is like an "Apple" product. You don't have to read a 3" thick manual to figure out how to build or change your website - it is very intuitive.
  • I started out with BigCommerce and switched to an industry-specific provider for my website services and my sales went down with the other company. As soon as I switched back to BigCommerce, my sales started going up again. I don't know what they do on the back end (SEO), but it works and gets my company traffic.
  • Hard to think of anything I would ask them for!
If you want to create your own website to sell your products, Big Commerce is easy to use, but still has many, many features.

Big Commerce is used by the whole organization and meets our eCommerce needs.
  • Easy product listing.
  • Professional looking website.
  • Easy payment setup.
  • The shipping interface is very rigid and does not meet our needs very well at all. We ship some large and some very small packages. Some of these can be combined shipping and some cannot, but there is no way to differentiate each individual product - only all products.
  • Everything is an additional add-on package.
The shipping interface is very inflexible and makes it difficult to come up with a workable solution. You can only set up shipping for the entire account and cannot set up shipping for individual products. This is difficult if you have a wide range of sizes or weights of products.
