We use BigCommerce to collect fees for membership, publications, and meeting registrations.
  • Seamless link to PayPal
  • Ease of arranging storefront
  • Excellent documentation/help
  • Some instructions are outdated - i.e. they do not match the current version
  • Some instructions are "too technical"
  • Difficult to transfer management of a store to another user
Great for collecting meeting registration fees and for facilitating the addition of new members.

In our case, it is difficult to coordinate the shipping of publications with the "warehouse" - we need a way to send orders offsite.

BigCommerce is used by our eCommerce department as our public-facing website platform. The system allows us to display our products to customers and prospects as well as integrates with Amazon for streamlined marketplace sales. It was initially selected in order for us to quickly launch a website for one of our brands of products.
  • I was able to quickly launch a new website for our product line.
  • It integrates nicely with Amazon.
  • I like the access to customize just about anything on the website using Stencil.
  • The API capabilities help us integrate with other business systems.
  • Getting started using Stencil for the first time can be challenging.
  • Integration with more marketplaces would be nice (Wayfair, Houzz, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, etc).
  • I'd like to see built-in CPQ functionality.
BigCommerce is well suited for selling products online D2C and sometimes B2B, however, if you have an extremely sophisticated B2B sales process and complex product configuration options it might not be your best option.

Web Host that is easy to implement and get up and running. We wanted a rental site, but very expensive and complicated to set up, so we instead went with BigCommerce for our launch. So far it is working for us until we scale. Hopefully they will develop a rental back end for our type of service.
  • Easy to get started.
  • Drag & Drop feature.
  • Customer support.
  • Develop a rental option back end for those of us not selling products.
It's great for retail, maybe not so great for rental services. Hopefully in time that will be developed so we will not need to change our web host in the near future as we begin to scale up and can no longer do the rental work manually on the back end of our site.

Our retail business operates primarily via online sales, using BigCommerce as our eCommerce platform. BigCommerce hosts our website and is used during virtually all stages of fulfillment from managing orders to shipping to communication with customers about the status of their orders.
  • The Support Team is easy to reach, caring and helpful in response to calls, emails and chats.
  • The monthly town hall meetings are an excellent way to see faces from the organization, hear about upcoming feature implementations and discussing matters affecting eCommerce.
  • The BigCommerce dashboard is a great one-stop-shop for managing virtually all aspects of running our online store.
  • The various Stencil Themes (website templates) offered do not provide for a lot of visual diversity nor do they appear to integrate more advanced features such as animations, javascript, etc.
  • Report generation (e.g., tracking best selling, worst selling items, etc.) is not as intuitive as it could be. It would be nice if there were a bank of popular or commonly sought-after automated reports available for help in analyzing one's product line success. More analytics would be nice as we try to see how people connect to our site, where they spend their time, bounce rates and such. Most of this we have to get from external sources such as Google.
  • It would be helpful if we could view a running list of abandoned carts rather than just getting an automated email on a periodic basis. Customers often think we can see into their carts from our dashboard, though we cannot.
  • It would be a wonderful asset to be able to establish different payment and shipping rules for different customer groups (e.g., retail versus wholesale customers).
BigCommerce is a great resource for small business. It may not have the full feature functionality and glamour that a larger company might want unless they have the technical ability to manipulate code and implement custom designed features.

BigCommerce is our web platform for both our organizations, Bank's Vacuum SuperStores, and Bank's Oreck Vacuum. We use it as an e-Commerce site for all the products and services we sell. BigCommerce consolidates and streamlines all of our online orders. It even handles proper tax calculations via AvaTax. The easy to read and understand dashboard provides a quick-view of my financials.
  • Easy to use admin panel - Everything is where you would think it will be. It's so intuitive.
  • The live chat! What can I say? These people are amazing. I have been walked through almost everything! They are so friendly and helpful and do not give up until your problems are solved.
  • Product options - This function really needs some help. It is not easy to use and is very confusing. I offered this feature on a handful of products but the time it took me to set this up I gave up using it altogether.
  • Apps and install directions - I am unsure if this is a BC problem or third party problem. I have found that most of the apps I use have outdated install directions in regards to BigCommerce.
If you are looking for an easy to use e-Commerce platform, BigCommerce is, in my opinion, the best choice. The live chat feature has gotten me through so I did not have to read and re-read complicated directions. The admin set-up is a breeze!

BC is the main online selling platform for all my products. It is used by all users in the company to manage online selling.

Business problems:
  • An easy way to learn and upload all products for selling and managing online customer orders.
  • Peace of mind security and ongoing tech upgrades for micro-businesses.
  • Site security for micro-businesses without the technical knowledge
  • Very strong SEO and Google integration over time for site owners
  • Platform upgrades and features that improve sales for users
  • BC Townhall to keep users updated about new features
  • Themes upgrade is costing users very much because of theme customizations on the existing store.
  • Image gallery needs improvements for the default cornerstone theme.
  • Megamenu for default cornerstone is hard to use and setup, drop down and product filtering menus not comprehensive enough.
Good for micro-business users who do not know much about SEO. BC is helping the user to manage the basics much better for search engine ranking compared to other platforms. BC theme customization for default DIY changes is still limited without HTML knowledge.

We use BigCommerce for online product sales, The shipping app is easy to use and we can print the packing slip, and label through the BigCommerce dashboard controls. It also easily integrates to Quickbooks so our website orders are synchronized. Then if a customer wants top call in an order, their info is already in our Quickbooks data base..This saves us a lot of man hours. 4 of our employees use this BigCommerce platform, and it can also be accessed by phone if needed.
  • Product options are good because you can create your own fields such as color, size, sliding scale pricing. You can also upload multiple images and create Free Shipping on individual products. There is also the option for bulk purchases as well as the ability to put items on sale. You can even "Feature" ytou item sop it is more prominent on the home page.
  • The Free themes that Big Commerce provides, are pretty much turnkey and can be customized ( colors, and a few basic changes) with no coding knowledge. Of course some more intricate customization should be coded. The website is great the way it is but customization will make it even better.
  • Customer service is knowledgeable and someone is always available to help you if needed.
  • The pricing is more than fair and Big Commerce does not take a percentage of your sales. This was huge to us because we work hard to make sales and Big Commerce is the ideal platform. Taking a portion of our sales would be a deal killer.
  • Instead of having to pay for Shogun ( a very good app by the way) it would be great if the landing page for the themes were much more customize able. You do not have much control of where images actually go if you want to change the built in theme. It can be done , but you need to get Shogun or higher a developer.
  • The themes are nice, but I would like to see more choices and themes that are noticeably different in layouts and functionality options. Still, we have been doing good with the current one and they look good on desktop or mobile devices.
  • The carousel image sizes are very different on the theme options. You have to resize when you change themes. This can be time consuming.
Considering other companies, that I have tried BigCommerce is the best.. The SEO is very strong, the dashboard is easy to use, customer service is excellent. Images are clear, and product options such as bulk discounts are also an added bonus. The landing page is not easily customized unless you pay for an extra APP.

BigCommerce is being used as an extension of our current retail store. This allows us to connect with our local customers to let them know what we have in stock. It allows them to pay for it via the website and pick it up "in-store" if they are in a hurry. For customers who are a little farther out from our primary location, it allows them to shop and support the shop as well. It extends our reach to customers outside of our local area to show off our unique selection.
  • Ease of use - You do not need to know code to build a usable web site.
  • The integration with other applications is typically spot-on, allowing us to focus on building the website and making sales, and less on troubleshooting.
  • The support and tutorials are super helpful when something does go wrong. Most issues can be fixed and figured out with a little search.
  • Quickbooks integration is garbage. I feel like it isn't so much BigCommerce issue, but regardless it doesn't work effectively.
  • If an item is modified in Shopkeep it loses sync with the website. Some type of out of sync item function edibility would be nice.
  • Sometimes how the vendor partners interact with BigCommerce isn't as easy as BigCommerce to deal with. I feel like all three of these issues aren't even BigCommerce's fault, but regardless it is a slight hindrance to an otherwise great platform.
With the flexibility of the platform and the numerous integrations, I feel that there isn't a lot that wouldn't be ideal. It's been great for the online content and presence of our skate shop.

We utilize BigCommerce for hosting our e-commerce site. They have saved our company finances with the packages they offer to small businesses. They do offer far more than their competitors and do not abuse taking from companies. We are able to ship easily internationally; have multiple currencies convert, and interact with our consumers more!
  • Cost Effective
  • Easy to Use
  • Customer Service
  • Offer more than competitors
  • Abandon Cart Recovery - Comes in a more expensive package
BigCommerce is well suited if you're looking for a platform to host an e-commerce store. They also suit multiple types of content for web hosting.

BigCommerce is my company store. Customers use it to purchase software, inventory tags/labels and other items. It allows customers to purchase items and give me custom order details.
  • Displays items well - with multiple photos and descriptions. Allows for groups/categories to be set up so items can be displayed with other similar items.
  • BC sends me emails with order details very promptly.
  • BC shows me how many people visited my site by the day/week/month.
  • The order email should show the person's email address. I take most of the customer and order information from the email. I have to go back to the site to find their email if it is a new customer. Since I have multiple ways for customers to place orders with me (BC Store, phone, email) I have a separate customer management software where all my orders are entered.
  • The monthly cost is too high. When my sales jumped to over $50,000 per year the cost went up to $79/month. I have very low margins so every monthly cost has to be watched. If the cost had gone from $26 to $49 - I would have been fine with that.
  • Using the automatic sales tax is confusing. Most of my sales are out of state so it doesn't matter much but sometimes it is a problem.
BC is well suited for small businesses that sell things with few options like size, color, etc. For basic items it is easy to use.

BC is not well suited for businesses that sell items with lots of options. I sell inventory tags where the customer has to select the type of tag/label, the quantity, the text or logo for tag/label (multiple lines), starting number, whether to include barcodes or not, etc.

Our BigCommerce site is used by our customers to place catering orders for their upcoming events. Our company sells the majority of our products to OEMs or through channel sales partners, but we have a single product line that we sell direct-to-consumer. BigCommerce made it easy for us to set up an eCommerce website that was easy-to-use, easy-to-manage and easy-to-scale. Before BigCommerce, we had a web development company build us a Drupal-based eCommerce site that was always a pain to manage. We had issues with plugins being out of date, the developer wasn't always quick to help or even able to help and we had a major issue with the credit card processor the site used. After years of frustration, we sought out a better option. BigCommerce appealed to us because it was a managed eCommerce platform, not a website with eCommerce shoved into it. BigCommerce also had dedicated support resources we could contact 24 hours a day and get swift and effective help from. But the thing that pushed us to make the change in the first place, credit card processing, was massively improved thanks to the affordable and effective Braintree payments integration.
  • Easy to set up. We got our BigCommerce site up and running in about a day. The site customizer is very easy to use and still gives you fine control over most of the site.
  • No transaction fees, and great pricing on credit processing when you use the integrated Braintree payment gateway.
  • Tons of backend features. Compared to other platforms, BigCommerce has a lot of features built-in. We are big fans of the store credit feature that comes built-in, which other platforms either don't have or require costly third-party apps.
  • Lots of built-in analytics. Our previous custom website barely offered any data, and now with BigCommerce we can see how specific products are performing, what our funnels look like.
  • Pages load incredibly quickly. Our customers are always impressed by how quickly they can place an order.
  • It's not always possible to add something to your site without digging into the code of the page. Even simple things like adding a banner to the top of every page might require coding work if your theme doesn't have a function for it built-in. This varies greatly theme-to-theme, but we wish it was a site-wide function that themes were required to have.
  • The template design language isn't as easy or robust as Shopify. There is documentation available, but editing a BigCommerce site's raw code takes much more than a basic knowledge of HTML to edit. Since not every change is something you can make with the site's built-in customizer, you might need to become familiar with making these changes on your own or hiring someone to make the changes for you.
  • The Apps and Integrations you can add to your BigCommerce site are clunky, and don't work as well as native features. In our experience, we found it easier to do without them than to try to workaround their flaws.
  • Monthly pricing is a little high, and BigCommerce automatically moved to a higher pricing tier than we wanted because of our store's sales volume.
In our experience, we feel that BigCommerce is well suited to selling simple and standard products. Our products are ready to go and just need shipped, and BigCommerce works great for that.

We feel that BigCommerce would be less appropriate for a site that sold highly customized products where lots of information needs to be gathered from a customer before the purchase. There are ways to do configurable products with a few options, but to a live preview of a customized product or to do pricing based on customization would require additional Apps or Integrations that might over-complicate the process.

We used BigCommerce for the online store for the whole organisation.
  • It is quick to log in.
  • It can be used on multiple platforms.
  • It is easy to update the site code.
  • The price increase from the basic subscription is disproportionate to the turnover difference. It made it very expensive for the turnover at the time.
  • There is not a platform messaging system for customers to send messages to site owner.
  • Incompatible with Stripe AI fraud protection system, this is available on Shopify for the same amount.
BigCommerce is brilliant for the first time ecommerce retailer. It is simple to set up and you can get up and running in no time.

We use BigCommerce to manage our online store at HeyViv.com. We use their templates to design and maintain our online store.

We use Big Commerce as a platform for our company website and e-commerce. We value the ease of use, ability to have multiple users which can be restricted to certain areas of use, and the timely customer support when we need help.
  • Big Commerce is quick to respond when we need to troubleshoot; their chat support is very helpful!
  • The ease of use: you do not have to understand coding to have a great website!
  • We desperately need the ability to limit coupon codes to certain customer groups. We've asked for this multiple times. Right now, if we have a coupon code out there for retail customers to use, a wholesale account can also enter it and get a discount. This has been a HUGE headache for us!
Great for companies that need to have e-commerce. Not so great if you want really robust web pages.

We use BigCommerce to power our customer-facing digital storefront, which provides an alternative purchasing option for customers who do not wish to use paper order forms. Responsibility is currently shared between the Marketing, Product Management, and Information Technology departments.
  • The backend management tools are robust yet easy to learn.
  • Customizable reports make it easy to distill information down for distribution to internal teams.
  • Loads of great options, such as coupon codes, cart-level promotions, etc. to help drive sales.
  • Easy product and pricing management.
  • It would be great to have an option to bulk-upload SKUs for coupon codes via CSV.
  • We need more robust information from Abandoned Carts without having to enable a feature in the site.
  • Bulk product management (price, description, etc.) within BigCommerce. We currently have to upload a CSV with bulk changes.
From what I've seen, BigCommerce appears adaptable to any size store, but I think organizations with more capital and resources will be able to make it do more for their needs.

Bigcommerce is used as our e-commerce website for selling our stock to customers. It solves the issue of not having to use a 3rd party to create and design an e-commerce site as well as giving us to power to edit and update when needed easily. It also links to Linnworks so we can manage all sales with our other channels.
  • Automatically creates a mobile version of the sit
  • SEO optimized
  • Manages products and customer data well
  • Links to Linnworks
  • Better free templates
  • Able to edit/design the site template easier
  • Easier shipping service setup
  • Bulk buy discounts
  • Better search functions
When we moved to our new multi-channel service provider, we needed a website that could integrate with them and cheaply. Bigcommerce integrated for free and was a massive step up from the website we used to have. Rather than spending £5000+ and more for updates, we could manage the site with a smaller monthly payment.

I run a small web retail business, across four different countries with multiple brands. BigCommerce allows the integration I need and good levels of support to ensure that the customer journey, from discovery to delivery is smooth. I have been very happy so far with the BigCommerce service levels and experience, and opening up another store shortly.
  • Service - support requests are responded to expertly and swiftly.
  • Integration - I can plug BigCommerce into my other back end systems to simplify payment, fulfillment, stock control, and finance.
  • Ease of use - using one platform across all my brands means that making changes is relatively painless.
  • Xero integration is a little flaky - I keep on getting problem reports I cannot get rid of.
  • I use an old store template that is no longer available. I dread the possibility of having to restore from backup.
  • I would love a simple management App on iOS/Android for performing basic tasks on the move.
Hard to say. In my case, it works well for the retail stores and seems like overkill for my brand website, which is catalog only. It is good where I can easily switch between multiple stores, however, creating a new store based on an old backup has me stack at the moment - this setup big should be easier.

We started our online business using Volusion but we quickly outgrew that. We are using Big Commerce exclusively now to maintain our entire website.
  • We use a lot of photos and it is very quick to load them.
  • It has been extremely reliable. I'm not aware of any website downtime in the 4 years that we've used them. Our admin console has been down a couple of times but for very short periods of time.
  • Very good customer service.
  • The item lookup is cumbersome. It takes several steps to drill it down to the item we're looking for and the category box is quite small.
  • We stock thousands of parts all stored in our warehouse in bins. I'd like the option to show bin numbers on orders for easier lookup.
  • We primarily sell used items. I'd like the ability to add additional condition descriptions.
If I had the items mentioned in the last question available I would give this one a 10.

We use BigCommerce for our website which mainly markets medieval-style clothing, as well as swords, armor, and other items. It is our main online sales platform these days as we found that eBay went into a sharp decline a few years ago, but our BigCommerce site has remained effective.
  • Excellent technical support - It's great to have that professional powerful back-up.
  • We do very well in Google - We really think BigCommerce has helped with this!
  • The templates are relatively easy to use, and it's not hard to find experienced site builders who know their way around the BigCommerce software.
  • It's expensive - But then, I suppose you get what you pay for.
If you're doing e-commerce, BigCommerce has no bugs in its programs and you'll have the backing of great technical support should problems arise. Getting good site builders to customize one of their templates is also not too difficult, as they are very well-known so you can get your website just right.

We use BigCommerce across our whole organization as the home for our signature products.
  • Easy integration with Quickbooks - All of our online sales from BigCommerce export seamlessly into our financial software.
  • Migration was very smooth. The support team spent as much time as needed to resolve any issues we experienced.
  • Simple to use platform layout - An intuitive interface to get the daily tasks done efficiently.
  • Would like to see some improvements in the wholesale management area. Fortunately, the support offered effective workarounds to accomplish what was needed.
  • Ability to turn off/disable view a new product from the home page. Again more of the 1st issue. If I add a new wholesale item it will populate in the homepage new item category and general customers can see it. Because of this, had to disable the New item Feature all together to avoid confusion.
BigCommerce is a very stable, easy to use platform for those ready to start their own eCommerce site.

We use BigCommerce as a platform to run our online store, so it’s used across the whole organization. BigCommerce is an easy-to-use platform that allows us to maintain our website.
  • Easy to use - I can update quantities of items and add/remove items fairly easily.
  • Great customer service.
  • More options for design layouts that do not cost extra would be nice.
  • I’d love to have the feature where if you hover over the image, another image will show, so customers can see the backside of products without having to click on the product to view other images.
BigCommerce is a great platform for products that only have a single image, however, for clothing, it would be great to have an updated look so customers can view front and back of clothing without going to the product page.

BigCommerce is our connection with the world. As an eCommerce company, we wouldn't exist without a good host, and BigCommerce fills that role for us. They provide the face of our company, the primary point of contact and interaction with our customers, and the admin back-end needed to stay organized. We needed a host that has practically no downtime and flexible enough with add-ons to customize to our unique needs.
  • BigCommerce is a good value for what it does. The pricing tiers seem fair and designed to grow with the business instead of hiding necessary features behind the more expensive tiers in an effort to push people to upgrade.
  • BigCommerce's live support is knowledgeable and easy to reach. I've rarely ever had a wait time to connect with a live person.
  • BigCommerce's add-on store is fully featured and well filled out. If someone's built an add-on for eCommerce, you can bet they've ported it to BigCommerce.
  • Their report/metrics system needs a little work. Given they're an eCommerce host, I'm a little surprised they don't support quarterly reports natively but instead require you to do custom time-frame reports.
  • Their add-on store is great *but* that comes at a price. Everything ends up having a monthly cost to it, and that stacks up.
  • The coupon system isn't as flexible as I'd like, especially when dealing with products with multiple variations. There's no easy way to have a coupon to discount one variation. For example: overstocked on XXXL Tshirts? Coupons can only apply to "Tshirts" but not specific sizes.
If you're selling items and want to run your own store, BigCommerce is for you. They're easy to use and pretty flexible. If you want an information-only website (no sales), there are cheaper options out there. If you're selling unique items (like original art or crafts), there are probably other websites that will serve you better, since BigCommerce is designed to handle items that you stock a number of rather than unique one-off products. If you fit their target niche though, they're great.

My business specialises in the sale of materials for jewellery designers. We sell online through a dedicated website and on a lesser scale through eBay and use BigCommerce as our preferred platform - having tried many others in the past. We also manage our eBay account from our main BC dashboard, via one of BigCommerce's partner apps.
  • Adaptability - I find BigCommerce to have more options in terms of design and tailoring to different countries/tax and postage options available to website owners than a lot of the competition
  • Price - I find BigCommerce reasonably affordable
  • Great customer service - I have always found BigCommerce's customer service to be approachable, knowledgeable and professional
  • Ease of use - I find it easy to manage my website at almost every stage from design to order processing. It has been easy to teach to my team and everyone has found it very easy to use.
  • My only difficulty so far has been using WebDav to make changes to the design template files - usually small tweaks, say, if a margin is too big for instance. This proved too technical for me, and I have had to pay for a developer to assist on several occasions.
  • It would be great if this area could be more user friendly for non-technical end users. However I can't imagine that it is possible to do this, or BigCommerce would probably already have done so!
I imagine BigCommerce would be well suited to most types and sizes of businesses. Mine is a small business with a large variety of products - and it suits us perfectly.

BigCommerce is ASQ Canada's online store. We currently have one store in Toronto and BigCommerce is our e-store, letting us sell our products in Canada and the US.
  • Linked to Square POS system.
  • User-friendly.
  • Great customer service.
  • Marketing tools.
  • Inventory management.
BigCommerce is user-friendly and great for beginners. You can set up your store in a couple of days and can be linked to most of the newer POS.
