BigCommerce is our primary web site platform. It allows potential customers to find us on the web, place orders and obtain status.
  • The up time is great. Very seldom is the site "down".
  • The interface with payment platforms such as Amazon Pay, PayPal and Credit Card processing is reliable.
  • The customer experience and order flow is good. Simple check-out reduces abandoned carts.
  • The tracking emails just don't seem to work correctly for us. We have attempted several times to improve this with no luck. Probably something we are doing wrong or don't have set up properly.
  • The ability to block customer IP addresses (or ranges) would help reduce attempted fraud
BigCommerce is a solid website hosting platform. The functionality is reliable, relatively low cost for the features it provides, and support has always been excellent. Third party software apps extend the functionality and allow us to use BigCommerce as the point of product entry that is shared via software with other markets such as Amazon, eBay etc. via SellerActive software.

BigCommerce is our platform for e-commerce across the whole organization. It allows us to create an online presence to target retail customers as well as reach interested wholesale buyers and resellers. BigCommerce allows us to sell directly to consumers as well as build a strong brand online without needing in house programmers.
  • BigCommerce provides constant updates on existing features to stay up to date with current technology. Changes are well thought out and executed without interruption to our business.
  • Setting up a new store is easy. Walkthroughs are provided in an online guide. An individual without a programming background was able to set up the store. Additionally, migration assistance from another platform was provided.
  • The customer service team has provided outstanding service. Our questions have been answered within 1 day and solved satisfactorily.
  • Ability for wholesale B2B could be improved, for example displaying case quantity and case pricing.
  • Wish we could create a separate website for wholesale customers to log in and place wholesale orders.
BigCommerce excels at providing a custom storefront and brand presence for a retail store. It is particularly well suited for stores that are migrating from a different platform. They provide excellent service when migrating. The ecosystem is set up so that a person without a technology background can set up a store. One example that stands out is that the system can automatically set up URL redirects on existing pages. The fees are reasonable with a pricing structure that is flexible based on business size. Wholesale stores may need to look into other solutions.

We use Big Commerce as our primary eCommerce platform for three websites. One is B2B and the other two are B2C. We are a gift manufacturer and sell only in the US.
  • The startup was very fast: we migrated from Demandware to BigCommerce and it was a fairly quick (4 months) process for our 5600 SKU catalog.
  • The process of onboarding new SKUs is very easy which is good because we churn about 2000 new SKUs in and out each year.
  • The system has a very simple back end so we don't require a lot of development hours as we did with Demandware
  • Page load speed is terrible: very low SEO scores as a result.
  • If you have anything out of the ordinary as in multiple promos running simultaneously on a tiered pricing structure it can't handle it.
  • No ability to override their site map which is automatically created via the system, this results in poor SEO as we have had a number of site map errors with Google due to this.
  • Many Google Search console errors are thrown because of how they hard code in the robot txt and do not allow users to remove that code.
  • In general, not very SEO friendly.
If they are a consumer only business and don't have a ton of SKUs its great, low maintenance. If you fall outside that box, however, it's not very flexible and their support staff doesn't really have an answer because they'd prefer you just stay inside the box.

We use BigCommerce to sell our branded apparel to consumers.
  • The ability to have large catalogs
  • Cost effective
  • Chat support is helpful
  • Theme glitches can be frustrating
  • Customizing storefronts is challenging
  • Would like built in inventory control rather than using external apps
I have a large catalog of products and BigCommerce is well versed to accommodate larger retailers. I have used them for years now and recently have had some issues with glitches in their storefront themes. Fixes are not fast and I've been told more than once to go back to an earlier version which makes me lose all of my customizations. Needless to say it's more than frustrating.

BigCommerce is used as our point of sale platform for our dot-com retail business.
  • Support is tremendous. Any questions are answered immediately by phone.
  • Online reliability.
  • My only small complaint is the search function on the website. I'm sure it is a good one, but it doesn't fit our needs exactly.
It's perfectly suited for a dot-com business large or small.

BigCommerce is our Store and since connecting to Klayvio our CRM too. We use our BC site for retail and for our dealers to log in and purchase, which BC does quite well with its ability to create Customer Groups with different levels of site access and pricing. BC addresses the problem from a customer service stand point of being able to keep things in one place and keep tract of notes per order both that the customer can see and private ones that they can't. I also utilize built-in merchant services with the Braintree service. I spent 4 years with another platform and had our own merchant services and I can say, much fewer headaches with the BC system of things and added bonus is the cost isn't really anymore either. I am a 1 woman show from the product design, website updates, marketing all the way thru customer service, so I greatly appreciate the BC platform for being able to keep things as contained as possible, from time to money management its a huge help.
  • Template design: Defiantly in the last 2 years has gotten much better and on par with any other platform out there. They have introduced some really great templates that now have flair and style and go beyond the "Cart" vibe. We are a unique brand and always appreciate being able to make a template our own and get our values and vibe across from the moment you land on our store.
  • Customer Service: I have tried other platforms and when it comes to customer service, BC is the best I've seen! Quite often I have to work on the website during the night and appreciate the 24/7 chat availability of support when I have a question or am just not finding the answer in the help area (which really has happened and been feeling stupid after). They are always knowledgeable and very friendly, their customer service alone makes up for the few things I wish BC had.
  • App and widget ease: Almost anywhere there might be an industry-specific detail needed, there is an app or widget for it that is easy to install right from the admin panel of BC. Most are quite affordable or free. The biggest one we use is Klayvio for our email marketing, funnel and flows perfectly with the BC system for CRM too.
  • Bulk Edit: The bulk edit feature really isn't much of a bulk edit, to be honest. The only things you can really change are the sale price and maybe inventory qty. A platform we were on before we used the bulk edit all the time because it was so perfect. Some real time saving adds to it would be: The ability to turn free shipping on and off/The ability to change all the pricing including MSRP/The ability to update the "availability" text/The ability to change the bin picking number, sort order, featured and visible.
  • Coupon Codes: I wish there was an easier way to work with the coupon codes. The ability to sort or search them would be hugely helpful.
I have had quite a few of my industry friends come over to BC on my recommendation and, in fact, I'm currently helping one in the set up of their first website/store. I did research other platforms for her to be able to show her why BC was the best option, the most value and also added that for her not having any website experience it would be the easiest for her to maintain herself. That has been a huge selling point I have made to others when it comes to BC—the fact they can now maintain it themselves over having to pay someone a hundred bucks every time they want to make a change and having to wait for that person to get around to doing it. They can make changes quickly and on the fly as needed themselves and better market themselves because of it.

BC is an e-commerce platform offered by our agency. We have over 40+ websites that have been launched on BigCommerce, from pro to Enterprise, with the vast majority at Enterprise. We are exploring headless options, custom programming, and other ways to extend the platform to meet our client's needs while offering a robust OOB e-commerce experience at a reasonable price.
  • Extendable API
  • Headless capabilities
  • Strong core e-commerce business logic and experience
  • Lack of content management options.
  • Lack of access to server-side APIs without the usage of middleware.
  • Lack of flexibility when it comes to payment gateway integrations.
We've found that BigCommerce works very well when you are either beginning from scratch or have a robust support system of external systems already in place. The BC clients who adapt best are those who can be flexible in their external systems and willing to adapt to meet BC's offerings. While we can customize to make BC fit into the external system, the most successful are those that are flexible.

We use BigCommerce as an essential tool to connect our customers to our products online. Its functionality allows us to create market funnels that delight and satisfy our customers.
  • Provides flexibility in presenting products.
  • Allows a great degree of custom options within the standard format.
  • Good reporting functions.
  • Does not work well with our search, and this frustrates our team.
  • Getting answers to non-typical questions is difficult. BigCommerce is good with standard questions.
  • Great strides in B2B world. Hope the company keeps address the needs of this audience.
As a B2B company with a desire for a well-tested product with robust features at an affordable cost, we found BigCommerce had more features and more customizable options than competitive products.

We have historically been a wholesale company. BigCommerce has allowed us to efficiently go direct to consumer and have an online presence that we are able to manage and define on our own.
  • It is easy to add, edit, and remove product.
  • It is easy to manage orders.
  • BigCommerce keeps up with technology and offers all the bells and whistles that consumers expect from online purchasing.
  • Excellent customer service and assistance.
  • Would like easier integration with our backend ERP.
We are a relatively small company without a dedicated tech team. BigCommerce has allowed us to easily sell our products direct to consumer. They work hard to keep us informed of the latest marketing & sales techniques and apps to offer our customers the best experience possible without a lot of hassle.

Outback Fibers is a manufacturer, importer, and seller of high quality wool and silk fibers for fiber artists. We are 99% dependent on ecommerce for our company sales. We use BigCommerce as our main interface with our customers. Most of our customers are in the United States, but we do sell and ship our products worldwide. We have almost 500 products variations. BigCommerce (BC) has been a time saver in being able to accurately provide a way for customers to purchase. It also provides very efficient ways to keep all of our products, colors, and inventory up to date.
  • Excellent support documentation. Virtually all setup and implementation for our company was covered in the support documents.
  • Graphics are easy to work with. The technology makes it easy to import photos. Information is available to provide information on the best sizes, etc.
  • Order interface is easy to work with.
  • Templates don't have enough user management options.
  • Quite a few customer suggestions have not been implemented.
  • Emailing an edited order with a refund is not possible.
I think BigCommerce is well suited to small (1 to 2 people) companies as long as they have the capability to work with graphics and really work through some of the setup and product preparation needed. Otherwise they may need some third-party help. I have found that you can get by without coding experience if you have knowledge of WYSIWYG interfaces.

BigCommerce is our primary software for our online sales website where we get about half of our revenue for the company. It is easy to use and makes the job of setting up an e-commerce site without knowing a lot of technical information.
  • Our SEO increased right away when we started using BigCommerce.
  • Very easy to customize products including being able to offer multiple variations of one product.
  • We just started using BigCommerce shipping which has been a huge benefit for us.
  • I don't really have anything that I'm not satisfied with.
BigCommerce accommodates stores that have a lot of product customization options. If a company has a store where there aren't a lot of variations there may be other options that would be better.

Big Commerce is our web site platform. We rely on it to help us operate efficiently (selling, inventory management, shipping, social media integration, amazon integration, etc). We have seen a simplification of our efforts because of the bundled capabilities.
  • Smooth integration with Quickbooks.
  • Offers direct inventory connections with social media and Amazon.
  • Handles the shipping functions of both domestic and international orders.
  • As a pro user, we do not have "sandbox" capability which is very challenging in terms of making changes without having to do it while being "live".
  • For our business, It's hard to deal with making changes within our template. Requires fairly high-level programming knowledge and expense.
  • Amazon integration has been a real pain, which may have more to do with Amazon than BigCommerce.
BigCommerce allows us to get orders, process multiple payment forms and ship conveniently. We can also do a myriad of marketing functions conveniently. We have found it pretty straightforward to add new products with big challenges. Big Commerce also helped us easily turn our social media efforts into opportunities to sell our products and find new customers.

Our company uses BigCommerce as the host/shopping cart for one of our websites, makeyourown.buzz, offering unique products like organic butter, oils, specialty ingredients to companies of all sizes, and to end-user consumers.
We have been on the BigCommerce platform for about 4 years.
The site we have hosted on BigCommerce was relatively easy to set up and has been easy to maintain too.
One huge benefit of BigCommerce, compared to other carts we looked at, has been the 24-7 customer support. We have called, chatted and emailed their team (really OUR TEAM) at BigCommerce at all times of the day and night, and I do not think there has ever been a problem they did not help us solve.
Although they do not offer every little feature we want on a website, they do have developer partners that are there to help when we need them.
We have been very pleased with our BigCommerce store, and when we develop a new store it is very likely it will be with them.
  • Help with transitioning to them from another cart - when we brought our SKUs over to the Bigcommerce cart they took care of us. It was an easy process and together we got it done quickly and were up and running in a short time.
  • Customer service- We have called, and chatted and emails at all times of the day and night, and have been available. This is a BIG help, especially since no one at our company is a web developer.
  • Easy to use - The dashboard/interface of Bigcommerce is pretty intuitive and easy to learn and easy to use.
  • User management: One BIG snafu with Bigcommerce is the lack of a good user management interface system. It is impossible to set up a user and have the new user at a permission level to get a lot of stuff done as far as back end programming without the owner having to get involved. Most of the time the store owner ends up having to give a developer their username and password to get done what needs to get done, which in reality makes the whole system LESS SECURE, not more secure. They really need to get this solved.
  • Frontpage customization- unless you are a computer programmer, it can be a little difficult to get exactly what you are looking for on the home page. This may be the case of many carts, as a lot of this is the theme developer. I think Bigcommerce should make the developers of the themes make them easier to customize.
  • Cart customization: Our second biggest struggle with Bigcommerce (FIRST BEING USER ACCESS / MANAGEMENT) is the ability to add more customization at the end of the shopping experience for the customer, the shopping cart. For example, the Cart discounts are a great idea but the interface on the customer side needs to be able to just have the customer hit an "Add to Cart " button instead of going back to the page of the product to use the discount. Also, we need some better interface with the customers on details about payments and shipping.
If you are looking for a cart/ platform that you can get up and running with, for the most part, minimal trouble, and get a lot of reliability, check out BigCommerce. The platform stable, easy to use, and has most of the features needed to have an excellent looking website, as well as one with all the functionality needed to get customers in and checking out and creating revenue.
If you are trying to create a very customized site, with very specific check out functionality that needs to be highly customized, I still think a BigCommerce store is probably the way to go, but you may need to get outside development done and be sure to check out the developer partner site and get some quotes before you make your decision.

BigCommerce provides an e-commerce platform for the books published by Victoria University Press (VUP). It also hosts the VUP blog, and integrates with other e-sellers such as Trade Me here in New Zealand. It tracks sales and inventory for us, and is our shop window to the rest of the world.
  • Very good back office systems to manage products
  • Easy to use invoicing and order management
  • Modern and easily updated designs
  • The built in blog needs more features and better templates
  • Sales reports could be more flexible and powerful, and easier to customize
  • More options for the front page would be a plus
The system works well for a medium size business such as ours, where the focus is on selling and handling orders. It lacks features for community building and communication, or for hosting digital products such as e-books or PDFs.

My company is a manufacturing company. We use BigCommerce so that our retail and wholesale customers have direct access to 100's of products that we make and sell. It allows us the ability to sell direct to consumers rather than enlist a wholesaler/distributor, therefore, increasing our profit margin.
  • Integration with email communication.
  • Integration with POS systems, particularly Square.
  • Encrypted customer checkout.
  • Ease of use and quickness of updating/adding products.
  • Invoice generation.
  • Ability to edit invoices.
  • Better guidance on SEO and how it works.
  • Easier integration with Google.
  • More shipping options for customers to choose from.
Big Commerce is great for companies that are transactional aka selling lots of different products. It's probably not necessary for more informational sites.

BigCommerce is the center of our online selling, linking out to other channels as well as accounting software. It is what drives our company forwards allowing fantastic exposure for our products.
  • Simple to get going.
  • Integrates well with other platforms.
  • Reliable - Our store is online and stays online.
  • Add features to UK marketplaces which have been available to the US for a long time.
  • Add more basic Ecommerce core functionality - Out of stock reminders would be a good start.
  • Work with App providers more closely to ensure they optimize their products to keep sites speedy.
BigCommerce is suited to most eCommerce applications and can be adapted if required. Some multistore situations are difficult though and require complex third-party systems to make them work.

The whole organization uses Big Commerce for sales in multiple industries. We previously used Shopify and Woo Commerce before switching to Big Commerce. Shopify was good but too expensive and Woo Commerce was difficult to use. Big Commerce is the best of both worlds and allows us to grow with good functionality, but at a better price per month cost.
  • Better price.

  • Great customer service.
  • Easy to implement apps.

We use BigCommerce as our website and eCommerce store. We only sell direct to the end user, so it is a critical element of our business. It provides our customers with everything they need to know about our products and purchase them.
  • Provides all basic eCommerce functions, but has plenty of scope for specialist extension using plug-ins.
  • It is easy to use and set up, with customizable themes that allow us to make our website appear unique.
  • Support is pretty good, and you can always get through to speak to a human when needed.
  • It is irritating that, if we customize our theme at all, then the ability to easily apply theme upgrades is stopped. Consequently, we have taken a decision to remain completely "standard," which does have its disadvantages.
  • It would be nice if the standard email messages were easier to find and customize, and that this could be done without breaking the theme upgradeability.
BigCommerce is particularly well suited to users with limited technical ability who still want a sophisticated eCommerce enabled website, without paying a fortune for a bespoke solution.

We use Big Commerce to run our apparel line, Smoky Joe’s Clothing. Having used the program for the past 8 years, I have found the BigCommerce community to be great. They are always working to improve their program by listening to their users needs to run their businesses better. Recently, they added BigCommerce shipping integrated into their platform so one did not have to go to an outside vendor. Love this new integration. The online forum is a great place to address issues that may be addressed by other users and moderated by BigCommerce so your issue will be addressed.
  • Always working to make their site better for owner and user.
  • 24/7 customer service included in their plans.
  • Updates.
  • Integration with Quickbooks Pro, not just one QuickBooks plan online. I don’t like that I have to use a bridge line to connect the two.
  • Picture sizes. A better picture correction program.
  • Direct integration with eBay. Not having to use a separate platform/integration to connect.
Well suited for products that one stocks and sells. In my case we manufacture some products and sell them on the BigCommerce site and it can be hard to add in accounting for manufactured products versus our stock items that we warehouse. With customization of products today, I would like to see a version of “create your own” integrated into the platform instead of a third-party app.

BigCommerce is being used by the whole organization as an e-commerce shopping platform. 100% of our business is conducted online so it is our point of entry for customers. BigCommerce is a simple platform that doesn't require (for the most part) developers to do updates. The user interface is simple to use and effective.
  • Easy learning curve
  • Good customer support
  • Easy-to-use interface
  • Theme updates often require developers
  • Not as many apps as Shopify
The price is good and BigCommerce is well-suited for businesses who do not have a team of developers or IT professionals. There are a lot of instructional videos and training documents, so it doesn't take a long time to get merchandisers and marketers up to speed. Also, there are a lot of apps to enhance BigCommerce.

We have been using BigCommerce as our shopping cart software for years. It is a flexible platform that is easily integrated with our back-office accounting system to allow easy transfer of data and updating of inventory across our various market places. Integration with Facebook, eBay, Amazon, and Pinterest has helped get our message out to potential customers to increase sales.
  • Easy to use and set up.
  • Easy integration with various market places and our back-office systems.
  • Helpful customer service.
  • Reasonable cost.
  • Always looking to innovate and stay ahead of the curve.
  • Site security.
  • Ability to handle large catalog.
  • Ability to handle options, and personalization of products.
  • I wish it had a little easier way to customize things outside their system. Can't really use HTML to make custom changes. The system works well and is easy to get started, but harder to deal with if you want to customize the look.
I think if you are a small business that does not have an in house developer or IT staff this works great. It is very easy to get set up and running without much experience. The templates are pretty flexible. It will allow small businesses to reach many different market places with ease. There are plenty of apps and integrations to interface with most back office systems that add a lot of functionality for those with more demanding needs.

I am a visual designer and have used BigCommerce for my online store (home decor and interior design), and I have recommended and implemented it for clients of mine looking for eCommerce solutions. I've managed a couple of migrations from other platforms to BigCommerce as well.
  • I love how BigCommerce easily handles large catalogs of products. You can create rules for products with similar variants, which makes editing in bulk faster and easier.
  • There's a bit of a learning curve initially, but once you get through that, it seems like the possibilities are endless. There are many excellent apps and themes that have worked seamlessly with BC to do all the things I want it to while creating a really positive experience for users.
  • Customer service has always been excellent in my experience! Fast response times, plenty of information, and reps go above and beyond.
  • The latest update with the elimination of option sets is definitely a bit disappointing. The timing was unfortunate because I'm taking on a migration that has become a headache because I'm not familiar with the new admin panel and I've spent too much time trying to figure out where all of the product fields have moved.
  • Hm, I've been happy with most things. Perhaps suggestions for apps could be used to connect more apps to users. For example, I use a freelancing software called 'Bonsai'. When I use one of their features it prompts a suggestion in their chat window or email for a particular feature or it gives me more information about that feature. In BigCommerce, I often think, 'I wonder if there's an app for that?' and then I'll just search and read reviews until I find something that might work. But if there's some way to suggest an app that could solve a problem I might be having at certain times throughout the setup process and beyond, that would be great. Printful is another example of a company that sends emails with helpful information and suggestions as you start up a business.
I would recommend it to anyone needing an eCommerce site for more than a handful of products. I think it's more intimidating to setup than Shopify, but once you get through that process and get familiar with it, I prefer it. I think it is capable of doing more in fewer steps than Shopify, in my experience.
