Bigcommerce is being used solely by our E-Commerce department for online orders. It brings in online orders, tracks inventory, creates coupon codes/gift certificates, and keeps a database of our online customers. It also processes all returns/refunds.
  • The interface is very user friendly and easy to navigate. It is easy to search orders, customers, products, etc.
  • Uploading products or changing aspects to products is also simple and easy to navigate. The changes are instantaneously updated on my online store.
  • I've called in to their support hotline once or twice and they were always friendly, helpful and efficient.
  • There absolutely needs to be an "out of stock alert" function. I cannot stress this point enough. Being able to automatically send our customers an email alert when items are back in stock in our store will drive more customers to our website and ultimately provide a better shopping experience.
  • I think the analytic section needs to be looked at as well. It is not 100% accurate in telling us statistics about our customers and orders.
  • When printing out multiple orders, it would be great to have a summary page print out that includes all the products within those selected orders. I.e. 5 black pants size small, 4 blue tops size medium. This way our warehouse can pull items in bulk instead of by individual order. It would be more efficient for us.
I think Bigcommerce is great for small to medium size businesses that are starting out with an e-commerce department. It is very user friendly! However, there are certain missing aspects that larger companies would require. The customization to the look of the online store is also limited.

As a web designer/developer I recommend BigCommerce to my clients as the preferred eCommerce option. As a store owner I use it with my other business as a retail store.
  • Easy to get started. The admin dashboard is extremely easy to use.
  • It's possible to customize just about anything. After using other shopping cart services this is by far the easiest to design a custom site down to the last detail. Very easy to overwrite template and CSS files.
  • Trying to create a eCommerce site from other platforms while being PCI compliant can be a huge headache. Knowing that the right security is in place is one less thing to deal with and worry about.
  • When I started using BigCommerce you could use FTP to manage files, now you can only use WebDAV. Which is only a minor inconvenience.
  • The Options and Options Sets interworkings can be cumbersome with lots of products that need a variety of different options. Having to create an individual option set for a single product that offers different combinations of sizes (like newborn-kids clothes) is not fun.
Well suited when only needing a storefront. If it's needed as just a part of a larger site it would have to be used on a separate subdomain/address. Doesn't offer the expandability of say Wordpress when it comes to a CMS. But doesn't really need to...

I used Bigcommerce for the whole organization. It’s easy to navigate. It will be great if it’s able to integrate into EDI system. It’s not too difficult to design layout for Bigcommerce. One of the greatest things is it’s integrated with other accounting software and eBay, etc.
I used Bigcommerce to sell cosmetics worldwide. Customers can pay via paypal, or they can select either credit card or check. I also like its analytics for owner.integrated
  • It’s much easier to navigate than Joomla.
  • It’s more specialized in e-commerce compared to Wordpress.
  • It provides owners analytics for demand and forecast.
  • Bigcommerce can integrate with Salesforce
  • If users can design Bigcommerce by themselves rather than having to hire web designers, that's a bonus. Just like Wix.com
  • Instruct users to convert product data by uploading Excel files rather than input product info one by one.
I highly recommend small business owners to use Bigcommerce. For users who want to sell products online without much Internet experience, Bigcommerce is easy for them. If users have to process too many orders at a time or have to submit many new items at a time, Bigcommerce maybe is not quite the right tool. Or at least it lacks training tutorials for such scenarios.

BigCommerce is the sole source of retail sales for our business. BigCommerce is being used to allow us to sell products all across Canada and on occasions, in a few other countries. It addresses the problem of getting our products before customers without the expense of a storefront, and without the need for us to be physically located all across Canada.
  • BigCommerce excels at making customer service available around the clock. Very few places offer 24/7 customer support and it is always FREE.
  • BigCommerce support staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
  • There is ongoing effort to enhance the platform and to introduce new features.
  • BigCommerce townhall meetings are helpful and are a great opportunity to learn more and get ideas about running your store.
  • Previously BigCommerce had a feature when an order was being marked shipped, there was the ability to add a shipping note that could be read by the customer. This feature no longer exists. It was a handy feature to be able to make a note to the customer re: some pertinent information regarding the order.
BigCommerce is well suited for the person who is just launching an online store and needs something straightforward to get started. Additionally if they run into difficulty, BigCommerce tech support is very helpful.

There are some areas in BigCommerce such as the order status that I wished there was flexibility to add a custom status that is unique to my operations. At present, the order statuses are defined by BigCommerce and no customize status can be added.

We use BigCommerce as a total solution for our online sales company - it provides great analytics, is easy to use and even though I do not have a huge technical knowledge the online staff always assist me with any issues [thus] eliminating the huge costs of an ongoing web developer.

  • I'm happy with all of the current functionality at the moment - costing is always something I see brought up in many comparative discussions though here in Austalia, especially with the USD strength against the AUD and I know many people that moved away from BigCommerc due to the new costing plans last year.
[It's] easy to use without any vast knowledge and no coding knowledge is needed to maintain the back end. This saves huge ongoing costs for an agency or web developer as the BigCommerce online team is always available to assist and highly knowledgeable.

I am the CEO/ Founder of a very small e-commerce re-sale business that addresses a woman's desire to be fashionable on a budget. We do not operate a brick and mortar store, so every dollar we earn is strictly through our website. Therefore, we rely heavily on the BigCommerce platform to sell directly to our clients and make our bottom line. Therefore, it is fair to say, that the Big Commerce platform is the heart of our business.
  • Innovation: BigCommerce is always striving to better its product and product line. We believe that they are consistently going back to the drawing board looking for ways to improve its product, which ultimately improves our bottom line.
  • Customer Service: BigCommerce has exceptional customer service! I have been with BigCommerce for about 5 years now, and have seen them grow over the years, but the one thing that is consistent is BigCommerce's dedication to its customers and their customer's success.
  • Seamless Platform: We are not kidding.... We were able to build a store and an online presence in less than 1 day with no technical background in HTML. The platform truly meets you where you are and gives everyone access to the American Dream.
  • The number one thing I would like to see integrated is a way in which we can be notified when a client has left a message through their client portal on our store's message board. This would aid in response time to those clients seeking our assistance.
In my opinion, BigCommerce is suitable for any industry in which you are selling goods or services, or you plan to do in the future. BigCommerce does all of the SEO work for you if you fill in the blanks. [Know] that you are purchasing more than access to a software, but rather an entire team that can assist your website in getting noticed which will ultimately increase revenue.

We started our online business in 2014. We decided to set up our online store on Bigcommerce platform. That was recommended by my brother as he was using it for years. I really had a great experience in terms of customer service; very user-friendly with lots of features which are very useful for our business. I have seen tremendous growth in my business. I have started with the standard and then updated to the Plus account. I started seeing all abandon carts converting in to sales with the help of follow-up emails set up. I am lookin forward to growing more in future. I have recently registered one more store for my electronics items.

  • Very user-friendly with lots of features.

  • I always found "how to"...videos and tutorials.

We use BigCommerce to educate our customers on how our product can help them solve their medical issues. It is used for our entire organization. It also sells our product. It is able to give links to YouTube videos and informational prose explaining our product and the medical environmental issues involved.
  • It works.
  • Relatively bug free.
  • It is usually running and not down.
  • It integrates well with our gateway.
  • It does NOT have a security issue.
  • I would like to see periodic bill capability. However, that would entail saving credit card numbers.
  • I would like to see an easier way of posting information on the home page instead of being forced to use a "marketing banner".
  • Saving credit cards for later would increase sales.
BigCommerce is well suited for a no nonsense sales site. However, it is not as flashy as Shopify. It would be nice to offer more flashy site options. Could they open up web design to third parties with commissions? Could they offer some kind of link exchange among BigCommerce users to increase Google rankings?

I presently use Bigcommerce to promote the sale of clothing and accessory items. I'm using other Bigcommerce recommended apps to manage the accounting part of the business. This allows me to get a full financial picture of the business in one glance. There are some marketing tools which I will incorporate to ensure ease of use for employees.
  • Bigcommerce provided excellent service contact options.
  • Bigcommerce frequently updates the platform to ensure that it is a user-friendly experience.
  • The instructional videos allow for do-it-yourselfers to set up and maintain the website.
  • Bigcommerce needs to allow clients to use sitewide HTTPS for all plans once the client has purchased the HTTPS credentials.
  • Some of the instructional videos require updating to show the functions available through new updates.
  • The Facebook version of the website requires a redesign. The pictures are not spaced properly.
Bigcommerce is suitable for merchandise based businesses. Trade based businesses have difficulty customizing the features of appointments and scheduling. My product based business has extremely convenient stock inventory controls with Bigcommerce. It's easy to download a full inventory listing into a spreadsheet. Updating stock via CSV is also a very time limiting tool. There are some challenges to bulk editing when items use the same product code but are different colors and quantity.

  • Makes processing and dispatching orders simple and efficient.
  • BigCommerce is at the forefront of e-commerce software, for example, it is often compatible with other third party software to create a fully functional site.
  • Creating product options and creating rules for them can be a little confusing so streamlining how they are entered and organised would help.
  • If something has been missed or not entered when creating or updating a product, the page refreshes with an error message but all the newly entered content has been lost which is really frustrating.
  • Editing HTML files isn't always straight forward as I can't always find the file I need to edit.
  • The blog is one of the most frustrating aspects of bigcommerce. It's clunky and doesn't look as slick as it could even after I've customised it to suit my requirements. The only reason I haven't moved to a subdomain or wordpress is I want the SEO benefits that come with using the on-site blog.
Bigcommerce is great for creating a stylish and modern looking yet functional and practical e-commerce site. It can be used alongside many payment services and third party apps and works for many different product types. It isn't suitable for someone looking to create a completely custom e-commerce site as bigcommerce does have its limitations.

I use BigCommerce to run an online store and fulfillment for a company that has about 1500 employees. It keeps track of my inventory and their orders. It also allows them to purchase using internal budget codes, and have items that are available to the general public, as well as only internal availability.
  • I love the bin number. It works great on my packing slips, telling me where to go to pull the items for shipping.
  • The shipping address is right on the packing slip, so I don't have to go to multiple screens for shipping.
  • I love the user groups. You can have items that are only available to certain groups, vs. items that are available to the general public. They even allow free shipping per user group.
  • I wish you could sort the coupon codes. Every month I have to look at the codes, and it would help to be able to sort them, and have them stay in that order.
  • I wish you could make a custom report with more items available. I wish there was an order report that would list them by the coupon codes used.
I love BigCommerce. I also have stores in SquareSpace. I tend to think in terms of BigCommerce for lots of products, and SquareSpace for smaller amounts of inventory. There is also the cost factor. I wouldn't use BigCommerce for a store that doesn't generate lots of income. For example, a local ballet/karate school. There isn't enough of a customer base to merit the monthly expense.

BigCommerce is the platform for the eCommerce part of our business. We were looking to expand our business in the pilot supplies and aircraft parts field and BigCommerce was affordable, easy to set up and could grow with us. We have been very pleased with the development of this platform and feel that it will continue to meet our needs in the future.
  • Provides us with templates that are clean, easy to use and convert well.
  • They are always improving the capabilties of the platform and innovating.
  • They are always receptive to suggestions and request for new features.
  • Their town halls are a great way to keep up on industry changes and improvements.
  • They need to address the large number of fake product reviews that are appearing for approval daily.
  • The shipping algorithms do not allow enough power to differentiate which products do not qualify for "free shipping".
  • The one page check-out is a improvement over the previous checkout, but still has bugs and problems.
Excellent for e-commerce with a large or small number of products. For us, it is always appropriate.

We use BigCommerce to set up online stores for our clients and as a CMS web solution. It allows the client to be able to easily manage the site when it is set up.
  • Easy Payment integration. So the setup is very simple and low risk.
  • They are constantly adding features and updating the platform, so if something you need isn't a current feature changes are there will be an update in the future that will address your need.
  • Lots of documentation and easily accessible support.
  • The options, rules and sku relationships are a bit hard to understand.
  • Search settings - Search should have settings that allow you limit to specific results. Example: unless you use quotes the search parameters are very wide.
I feel that for the new small business owner starting out the monthly fee can be a bit much. In my experience, it is better suited for the business owner that is more established. Also it is not well suited for businesses that have extravagant shipping rules. I recommend that shipping be kept simple, but that is the most common thing I run into.

BigCommerce is used to set up a retail store for online sales which is the main thrust of our business.

It provides a complete hosting and site solution that frees us from the need for development ourselves and allows us to concentrate on other aspects of the business.

At present, our site is still under development.
  • Wide array of business templates that make setup quick and clean.
  • Good support mechanisms and helpful staff.
  • Relatively easy to access and modify the code.
  • It's hard to customize the templates or "tweak" them to make them just like wanted. This is not so much a flaw of bigcommerce but it would be good to have some easier professional design options.
  • There is a need for two-way links to third party sites like eBay. At the moment it seems to be one-way which makes administration difficult for many products.
  • Some back-end options for product import/export are still a little confusing. Functionality is good but some explanation for options and how they will be implemented would be good.
Retail sales and complex product sites seem well suited to the functionality of the BigCommerce website. The functionality seems like it would quite adequately support many other site types but the monthly rates would perhaps make Bigcommerce less suitable for simpler sites like blogs that have little functional requirements and could be hosted on web host providers like DreamHost or GoDaddy.

We are a two man show - so we both use BigCommerce to process orders on our website and via phone orders. As far as what business problems BigCommerce solves...I guess being able to take orders and maintaining order status for customers...It's also great to receive email updates for each order so we know when we got an order.
  • I LOVE that the customer support is available 24/7.
  • The Dashboard is well organized and easy to navigate.
  • There's quite a few apps and integrations with BigCommerce that are helpful, such as QuickBooks and email marketing platforms.
  • I feel that the Blogging portal on the back office could be updated to include more features and customization.
  • I would like to see integration with SendLane email marketing platform.
  • The discount and product options could be upgraded. For example I want someone to be able to add specific products to their cart and get a discount for the quantity of the product even if there are several different color options.
[It's well suited] for companies that already have an e-commerce site and want to move their website and platform to BigCommerce from a less beneficial platform. If someone is just getting started with e-commerce they may want to go with a less expensive option to get the hang of it and get their sales up enough to afford the investment.

I was contracted to write a integration between BigCommerce and the drop shipper.

BigCommerce is great for expansion. The API is well developed and documented and allows for great flexibility. It is a RESTful API - I do wish they offered a Soap API or more documentation for .NET. All the examples are in PHP.

I use BigCommerce for my e-commerce business as a platform to sell retail lighting and home decor products. It makes selling online very easy to get started with, and it is easily scalable as [my] business grows.
  • Technical customer support. It is always quick to talk to an expert on the phone or chat window when I need assistance with my online storefront.
  • BigCommerce allows for streamlined, simple app add-ons and integrations with our accounting and shipping software.
  • It would be great if the product filtering feature were easier to implement.
BigCommerce is well suited for small to medium size businesses that want an e-commerce site without having to spend a sizable amount. That is, with BigCommerce it is relatively quick and simple to build out a respectable site with budget concerns.

I have a hand painted clothing business that I started in Covent Garden, London. Due to the location, the customers are from all around the world (kind of like Times Square!) so I needed a web platform that would look professional for global shoppers. After a TON of research into alternatives such as Shopify and Magento it was an easy decision to go with BigCommerce. All of my online sales are completed via my BigCommerce webstore at www.westcoastlondon.com. I feel the BigCommerce platform addresses multiple problems. For starters, it looks ultra pro - to me this weeds out time waster shoppers or people who may try to commit fraudulent purchases or refund activity. Also, my store presentation (in my opinion) gives customers enormous confidence in making a purchase. My store LOOKS like a professional store - even the interface really looks on a par with a site like Bloomingdales for example; 'your account' 'refund policy' etc. These kind of details are what customers expect when they shop at a professional retail operations. BigCommerce provides these elements automatically.
  • BigCommerce has all of your decisions sitting right in front of you so that you don't forget anything! All of the options for entering sizing/inventory availability/customization are right there so you can be up and out of the gates quickly.
  • 24/7 tech support. I found the support people to be fantastic. This was a huge deal for me in picking an e-commerce platform. I'm no coder and I didn't want to spend hours (or weeks) learning - having a 24/7 tech support on hand, not just by a chat, but a real person you can speak to on the phone - this is awesome!
  • The interface itself educates you. The tabs for marketing offer an array of options for putting banners or coupons. They are quite intuitive and straightforward to configure. This coupon element (I offered free shipping over £50 purchase) have really helped drive people to up the value of the shopping carts.
  • I find templates lacking - there should be more current designs, like one page parallax type templates.
  • I liked the older interface and am still not fully used to the new interface.
  • It should be more clear that you can pre-pay a year for a discount!
  • Perhaps video tutorials in addition to the online blog support?
For apparel retail it's awesome as most of the templates already look like stores you've seen before! I feel BigCommerce is perfect for ANY sort of fashion/apparel. Likely it is also perfect for restaurants or clubs but as that is not my usage I can't comment. But for retail/apparel I definitely feel it is not lacking. Sometimes I need to see directly to a customer (as in when I am set up at Covent Garden for example) - I would like it if the purchase were perhaps easier to do in person - like if I could use my iPad for a sale. Maybe this has been added but I am not aware of this option.

Not the greatest for stores with dozens or hundreds of categories, as they cannot be bulk imported and setting them up takes a long time. Adding meta content for categories is also very time-consuming.

Our company uses BigCommerce as our main storefront. We navigated from a CMS that was not e-commerce specific to BigCommerce and were very happy with the decision. BigCommerce has many automated processes and also integrates with other apps/modules that focus on convenience. Ordoro, for instance, is a fantastic automated fulfillment app and integrates with BigCommerce almost flawlessly. The Gold Plan's monthly price is also very affordable versus those systems that get a 2-3% cut.
  • Big results for small teams with their automated processes.
  • Ease-of-use for new businesses and those without a design budget. Design can be pricey but their theme market has many free options.
  • They really need to beef up their technical options with things like checkout (& multiple address checkout), discount rules, email customization.
  • Not being able to edit the .php files! Not allowed to create additional product details.html templates!! Not being able to duplicate HTMLHead.html !!!! And the list goes on. These are EXTREMELY frustrating. Not being able to create additional header files kills some SEO functionality. And not being allowed to edit product details is basically telling merchants they're not allowed to sell very different products different ways. and PHP files is obvious.
  • I wish people checking out as a guest could create an account in the future that would gather all of the orders placed with their email address (when they checked out as a guest). It's hard to offer rewards programs when customers don't realize their past orders aren't registered under their new account.
  • The search bar function is an absolute disgrace.
It's perfect for people who are navigating from an Amazon, eBay or perhaps even a Shopify store. It gives merchants many more options than they had in the beginning. It is definitely suited for less-experienced merchants than it is for teams of over 4. If you have over four people working on the website, there is certainly some room to move up and pay for a better, more custom experience.

At my previous place of employment, we used Bigcommerce daily with our clients. We worked with companies who needed ecommerce stores designed and implemented with fresh modern design and great SEO. I was the main web designer at our company, and I really enjoyed how flexible the platform was for a variety of design layouts and features.

  • Bigcommerce guarantees you a modern and up to date web presence. They don't let you sell your products with a dated look and functionality.
  • Bigcommerce could benefit by offering more advanced features for design & functionality, such as out of box parallax scrolling or video backgrounds.
  • BigCommerce could offer responsive design - or some kind of more mobile friendly functionality - with every package.
I think Bigcommerce is well suited for online stores that offer a large amount of products and need better sorting abilities or product selection abilities. Bigcommerce can handle large inventories and have the ability to offer streamlined searching and filtering capabilities. BigCommerce, in my opinion, would be less appropriate for websites for spas, salons, and other services like that.

BigCommerce was used by my previous company as a major platform for building e-commerce websites for smaller boutique online store, with a small to moderate inventory of products. BigCommerce addressed an issue we had with other platforms in that it allowed us a lot more customization options as far as design and themes go.
  • Being able to create custom themes, and layouts while maintaining it's core e-commerce functionality.
  • The admin panel is easy to use to set up payment, and shipment options
  • Having file access to template files greatly improves the development experience.
  • At the time of writing this, the lack of responsive themes, was an area of weakness, however I hear they are implementing a responsive theme soon
  • Not having a blank theme to start with, before I would have to take a theme, and comment out all the styles and code to have a clean start when making client sites.
  • Some of the Product options sets can be clunky to use, but overall they are a great asset
I would ask how many products the store will have. One issue I experienced was the issue of scalability, I had a client who quickly became popular and BigCommerce could not keep up with the amount of traffic and business they were doing.

Only one of my clients is using Bigcommerce. We are using it at an e-commerce platform which we do not want to build from scratch.
  • The user interface looks really nice and is easy to use
  • Meta tags are easy to update
  • Processing orders is simple
  • Updating Inventory is simple
  • The dashboard show good overview of your sales, etc.
  • More webinars
  • We did not have any success with Big Commerce's Google Store sales - not sure if that is just us or if anyone else was disappointed with the results.
My biggest question would be about the customer service that the platform provides. The customer service at Big Commerce is amazing in addition to the product. I would most definitely recommend it to my colleague if they were looking for an e-commerce platform.
