We used one other platform before moving to Big Commerce. Big Commerce was like a night /day comparison to our previous provider. The change over was a great decision and we have never looked back.

We started off using Shopify, as it seems "everybody" does, but we needed more product flexibility and shipping variations. Shopify offered that, but wanted double/triple the price from the tier we were on. Since we were just starting out, we didn't want to pay a crazy big price just to have options. I switched us to BigCommerce as it had what we needed and THEN SOME, all for their basic price. Obviously, they have tiers as well and offer more things as your company grows and expands, but their basic package will be more than enough to last you for a loooooong time. Shopify has since changed/updated their offerings so they now offer the shipping flexibility that we [want], but still, BC wins for offering so much more!

We tried Squarespace and loved their beautiful themes but beyond that, there just wasn't the options we needed. We didn't have access/control of customer database, so giving store credit and editing orders for customers wasn't available. Product variations/flexibility wasn't there either and it was just a lot clunkier and harder to work with than BigCommerce. Again, gorgeous themes, but if you have an IT/web person, they can do the same for you.

1. One was lacking the customer service experience one would expect, they didn't have their act together regarding basic response times.
2. Another had many similar features but I decided Big Commerce was going to be a better value regarding price in the long run.
3. Another just didn't have exactly what I was needing.

The ability to have a product catalog and shop pulling from the same place isn't available with Woo and Shopify. We can have everything in one place. The CMS is far superior to other e-comm platforms. Developers will be happy with the capability to create anything they need or want, with all the documentation to guide them. BigCommerce's customer support can't be beaten.

We originally started a relationship with Shopify. I spent hundreds of hours working on customized our store. Shopify's customer service and tech support were very frustrating. I finally decided to abandon Shopify since we could never get our store to function exactly as we wanted in a test environment.
After that experience, I was very reluctant to start the process with BigCommerce. We did however and it took several months to move our store over to BigCommerce. I'm very happy we made the move.

Amazon is a fair contender however not as easy to understand and get started if you're not in the tech space.

Before BigCommerce, I used Volusion for about 8 years. But Volusion did not work on other devices besides the desktop computer. With more people using mobile phones and notebooks, BigCommerce is way ahead reaching clients across all platforms.

Shopify does not come with a lot of the features that BigCommerce does such as invoicing and good analytics. Instead you need to purchase an app for everything including printing invoices for your customers. They try to force you to use their Shopify payments system yet at any moment can deem you a "risk" for no known reason and hold all your funds. If you do not use Shopify payments, they charge a fee (on top of other merchant payment system fees) for every single order so that your monthly invoice quickly adds up. They have subpar analytics, do little to stop spam/bot traffic and their store templates do not look as professional as BigCommerce.

When Network Solutions was purchased by Web.com, I had issues and could not get good support so we had to move. BigCommerce was our choice and we have been happy with the change in many ways. Network Solutions was a more full-service host having a really good email service as well though.

I honestly haven’t used any others, so I wouldn’t be able to compare. BigCommerce came highly recommended to me by my website developer and I took his advice. It has been helpful for both digital and physical purchases by our customers, and I appreciate the feasibility and user-friendly appeal.

We were using a 3rd-party site that would produce goods as people ordered them. Once I found out that Shopkeep was partnering with BigCommerce, I decided to look into it further and decided to try it out. I never really considered any other companies.
