Its relatively easy go get started with the product. The support is great. The flow of new features and improvements are constant. The customer success program is good.,Its fairly complex for "normal" users to master/use the product (normal being supervisors, IT professionals etc.). The problem is that in order to get them available on a market as soon as possible, some of them new tools/functionalities either lack some of important features or are not properly tested and sometimes cause more harm than benefits.,7,5,YesData CaptureBirst has been used across the orgnainization. It is time consuming if complicated logic needs to be built, but once in place it is reliable. Processing time could be a bit long, therefore it is suggested to refresh no more than once a day.,We have no benefit from the mobile apps capability.,The organisation has definitely benefit from Birst. Users get information quickly, consistently and wherever they are. Security levels have been built and different level of permission have been created. Birst is not easy enough for all users to create their own dashboard, but more advanced users have the capability of changing reports in visualizer.,Birst has been updating their offering regularly. Every quarter there is a new release. Pronto has been on the market for sometime, but due to extra costs the company did not embrace the new product. Regular updates are realised, not always with major changes, but interesting features such as forecasting or clustering have been introduced sometime ago.,8,217,2,Performance/sales reports Integration of different data sources KPI,New metrics built that are feeding into global measures Forecasting analysis,Microsoft Power BI,Expand to other departments Build connection to new platforms Integrate all data sources available,No,Product Features,6,Yes,We had an issue with a user. It is currently linked to other products as well, which is how it is updated for reporting each day. It allows for information to be refreshed on a scheduled basis where in which this means the data team does not have to spend their time consistently running basic reports, other teams can pull it off themselves.,Allows individual teams opportunity to create their own individual dashboard, specific to their clients and needs. Splits our costs easily, with an easy to use filter option, making reporting much faster.,In order to run Birst on a schedule, a ETL had to be created, this would be much more helpful. Visually Birst could improve, we use a large amount of visualisations in presentation and have to use a different software to create these Lack of stability in the product, we often experience issues where in which Birst is delayed or down. This being rectified would be extremely beneficial across the entire business.,5,Speed and agility Decreased deployment time and risk Ability to do ad-hoc analysis and scheduled reports,Microsoft Power BI and PostgreSQL,6,The 2 other BI tools we use alongside Birst are much more flexible and easy to initially use. The loading and data connections in Birst can feel clunky and much longer. The financial reporting side however does compete well. The major issue for our usage is the visualisation aspect, Birst’s visuals are limited and not always very nice. The customisation is much more limited ans harder to adjust quickly.,We do not currently use this function due to other tools providing a much more complex dashboard app. This is a feature that we do consider useful and if the BI visualisation are improved, something we would try to use more frequently.,This is a very useful feature of Birst which we do use as not all our data comes from the same location. There are multiple ways in which we utilise this function, especially for the automation capacity of Birst. We often consume data from different warehouses and through manual upload, having the semantic layer in place allows us to process this both quickly and automarically, removing our manual checking process.,Personally I have been using Birst for over a year now and have seen minimal updates. This is mainly related to the BI visualisation side and how you manually upload data.,6,Due to the change in the market and the current focus on AI, this would come into play when deciding a BI tool. Other considerations would be the scale that the platform could reach re data volumes. Birst often crashes which is something that we would need to take into account. Links to the cloud and security are a large focus at the moment. One of the main issues is the style, customisation and options for visualisations. The option to import new or design your own visual or infographic is a very useful feature when trying to explain what your data is saying in a new and appealing way.

Usability

Nowhere near as user friendly as other tools. Part of the problem is combination of Flash and HTML options, although this is configured at a user level rather than a dashboard level. As the features in each option are not the same, this can mean users working in one format cannot utilise dashboards that are more suited for the other format.

Usability

We have been using Birst for 10 years .We like a lot of things it offers but especially the ability to create new data sources and build reports/dashboard on top of that data very fast and relatively easy. What we dislike is a way how some of new features/modules have been designed and developed and lack of consistent focus on product stability. Since Birst became part of Infor, a lot of things changed for the worse (product reliability, tech support,...) We hope that this is just a phase that will be over soon.

Usability

Birst is a reliable BI platform that has developed through uploads via the cloud, easy tabular views, quick manual uploads and links to SQL databases. It however does not compete with other BI tools with the data manipulation and connections when your data is uploaded in the platform and the visualisation and customisations available. The automation aspect is very useful and is one of the top features, alongside the user hierarchy and permissions. Birst is an easy and useful tool for finicial reporting, however is not currently the best option on the market for providing easy to understand, edit and present visualisations.

Usability

Having no background with this kind of program, I've found it to be a very intuitive piece of software; I can generally figure things out on my own. Easy to use and figure out doesn't mean it's shallow though - it's definitely a powerful and robust program.

Usability

I would like to see additional usability put into the ETL scripting. Recently, Birst added a nice function reference inline to formula creation which has kept me from having to return to documentation so much. The same in ETL would be very beneficial. The interface problems related to the Flex framework are being addressed in a rewrite to HTML 5, but for now they are still a hindrance to a higher usability rating.

About Birst

Birst Networked BI is a BI product that promises to enable a single view of data and eliminate data silos. Additionally, decentralized teams and individual users can augment this shared analytic fabric with their own local data, without compromising data governance. This consistency comes from a unified semantic layer, which maintains common definitions and key metrics, no matter where users sit.

Birst achieves Networked BI through a 2-tier architecture that aligns back-end enterprise data with line-of-business or local, edge data. Birst’s Automated Data Refinement extracts data from any source (data stores, applications, warehouses, big data, and unstructured external sources) into a unified semantic layer. The result is a consistent view that enables users with self-service analytics through dashboards, reporting, visual discovery, mobile tools, and predictive analytics. Birst Open Client Interface also offers integration with Tableau, Excel and R.

Birst goes to market in two primary ways:

  • Direct, for enterprises using Birst for analytics on internal data to drive improved business outcomes
  • Embedded, for all size companies who offer data (analytics) products, by embedding and white-labeling Birst capabilities into their products

Birst’s product is packaged in 3 available formats:

  • Platform and per-user fee
  • By Department or Business Unit
  • By end-customer (for embedded scenarios)
