Bitdefender, when I started the VDI journey, was the only vendor READY to have something to work in VMware (vShield at the time). I even looked at the big boys - McAfee & Symantec. They had products but they were not ready.
Because of that and the support I've gotten from Bitdefender GravityZone over the years, that's why I've maintained a relationship with them and expanded it to cover my physical endpoints as well. At this time in our VDI journey - physical endpoints are dwindling away and virtual have taken over.

Bitdefender has better results than most of the others. As to why it won against Kaspersky, it is because the dashboard is easier to manage.

Having experience with Sophos, VIPRE, and Symantec products, we have found that Bitdefender GravityZone matches up or beats out most alternatives. Sophos, in particular, is a difficult product to deal with because of the difficulty in removing it and centrally managing it. GravityZone has had better detection rates compared to the competition, and is easily centrally managed across multiple businesses. With our small team, central management is an absolutely critical component for our success.

AVG is still my favorite anti virus product. I find all others tend to slow down the computer ESPECIALLY McAfee (just deleted the product from my daughter's personal computer). Bitdefender worked well except the popups or asks to ok were a bit annoying. Overall I think bitdefender is a reasonable product.

We have looked at Kaspersky several times but have always decided the client to heavy and management was cumbersome at best. We used Avast Business Antivirus for about 5 years primarily because it was free for education and we had ESET before that. Overall Bitdefender is easier to manage in all cases and I feel thus far it has provided a better detection rate. BD also includes extended features such as firewall and application control that were not present in our other AV solutions.

I have experience with AVG, McAfee, and Avast products. All are good, but Bitdefender is better. Bitdefender has caused no user downtime or user complaints in two years. Not so with the others. With AVG, there were issues with users not understanding what was happening with their systems for updates and if a virus was detected. McAfee caused a lot of BSODs and was maintenance-heavy. Avast was good but the systems were almost unusable during a scan and updates almost always required a reboot. AVG updates also frequently required reboots.
