  • Positive: It has helped with the organization of data on our many constituents. Because so many people access the system for different reasons, we are able to keep a ton of information in one spot and allow easy access for all. This has saved so much time! It has also saved staff resources so we don't have a centralized staff that is looking up this information by request.
  • Positive: The easy use of the system has made training for new users much easier! Our previous system required in-depth training for new users, and constant upkeep to keep everyone trained. Blackbaud CRM is user-friendly so the training is easy and quick. Users can maintain their quality of use with no need for repeat training. This has lessened the amount of time our training staff spends on training for this platform.

  • The online program we use called Luminate (new to us, we just started using 3 months ago) does not integrate as well as the previous program, NetCommunity, so that is frustrating. Both online products are by Blackbaud.
  • The many different areas we are able to track and record make data analysis awesome.

  • Change is always expensive and painful, but CRM is worth the time and effort. One immediate benefit is improved transparency internally, especially for internal accounting, controls, and compliance departments.
  • Cloud hosting helps cut cost and demand on organization staff. Improves access and meets compliance on every level.
  • Ability to make global changes to recording donor phone communication makes it a one-stop resource for a well-run development team.

  • Blackbaud CRM can really be a great tool to help organizations grow and reach out. It helped to grow our membership significantly through several marketing type campaigns.
  • The product can be customized making it adaptable to many different types of organizations.
  • The streamlined set of features covers such a wide set of functions including payment process, marketing, fundraising, and membership management and really helps provide an almost one-stop membership solution.

  • Decreased open rate in email because we can't figure out how to segment out inactive or soft bounce emails in Blackbaud
  • Mistakenly sent an email with the wrong personalization
  • The whole team can use Blackbaud but only 1-2 people know how to actually use it. Very steep learning curve

  • Definitely having one system of record is a huge impact on our department. Prior to BB, we had a couple systems that were independent of each other.
  • We've developed multiple business processes and documentation to support the efforts of BB, so that keeps our department consistent and on the same page with one another.
  • The "real-time" access is also important in Planned Giving, so we can see stats as of today.

  • After our major fundraising event it took multiple staff many weeks to clean up and manually enter data that was never imported correctly.
  • Throughout the event staff still had to manually register attendees as the login function was unavailible
  • I spent many hours trying to contact and get help from customer service on our issues and in the end they did not stand by their product.

  • The web and mobile interface provide an opportunity for users to access application and enter information, providing more insight and less likelihood of loss of details.
  • Can reduce cost if other modules are used such as BBIS as a CMS and other functionality.
  • Using the system within a community (separate databases) provides internal knowledge and best practice to reduce likelihood of single point of failure various roles within an organization.

  • I am convinced I was able to better build proposals and gift plans due to the efficiency of that module in the database.
  • The above most likely meant that proposals were better developed and presented than they otherwise would have been, resulting in a better chance of gift closures. I do not have exact data to back this - just my sense.

  • If you go with Blackbaud purchase the extended training package. Your staff will thank you.
  • The mantra is "If it isn't in Blackbaud it doesn't exist" is a contradiction because best practice with Blackbaud is to not use attachments which means we had to archive copies of donor letters or membership in a completely separate system. Really? What is the point? Or pay more and more and more...

  • Not much different than other CRM's that did not offer mobile device access
  • My sense is that it was not the primary tool that the fundraisers used to access their donor's contact info - I suspect it was easier to access a local hard-drive stored spreadsheet or Outlook contacts program.

  • Efficiency has improved in being able to be on the same system across corps
  • Faster processing of donations to make sure funds are going to the right areas
  • The only negative I would say once again comes back to keeping things private between other agencies
