Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a non-profit, we've used Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT for almost 20 years. It's been a lifesaver on many times with its ability to incorporate new features while also always allowing the user to create new and useful reports for their organization. I would recommend this software to any non-profit who has multiple funding sources and needs a way to keep track of each penny.

For a smaller organization with only one or two funding sources, I wouldn't say this software would be best suited for them. Especially if they happen to only need certain things tracked. However, for an organization that has multiple streams, this software has so many faucets that could easily benefit them. The only thing missing is the payroll feature that they once had!

We use it for our accounting and AR billing and AP processes. Pretty user friendly and vast span of things it can do to accomplish these.

The phasing out of the database version was slow and clunky
the "generating" of reports is now slow and tedious
seem to have to click through a lot of screens to get to see accounting distributions

Prior to the phase out of the database function, the AR function was very user friendly and now I wouldn't say that is true. While creating reports is easy and can really generate detailed reports easily, the ability to just view is gone, and now I'm constantly having to download a report, even when I might have to go back and edit it, to then download it again.

The scope of our use case focuses on the reconciliation between development and finance. While Salesforce handles the "front-end" of donor engagement and pledge tracking, Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT serves as the General Ledger and Accounts Payable "system of record." We use it to manage all core accounting functions, including vendor payments, grantee disbursements, and department-level budgeting, ensuring that the philanthropic data in Salesforce aligns perfectly with our audited financial statements.

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is our General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and AR system. It is a solid nonprofit platform that accepts CSV files to be uploaded from other systems for GL batches. It is cloud-based and has extensive granular security. We have been using it for many years.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use FE NXT as our accounting product for the GL, budgets, AP processing and through journal entries, adding payroll, bank activity and accounts receivable. We manage multiple organizations withing FE through GL numbers so reporting can be manageable.

With the transition from database to web based, the JE upload is an ongoing issue.
Upgrades are not always vetted through clients who use the functionality, therefore, not working properly in the field.

Likelihood to Recommend

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is a complex suite of products. For a larger and/or complex organization, it works very well. However, that comes with a cost. For a small organization, it may be too much product and too expensive. A good vetting of organizational needs and budget should occur before committing to an program like FE NXT.

Please note that what I use if a very small portion of what we have access to. My usage is journal entries for payroll and bank activity, and bank reconciliation. Others use the program more extensively and may have other opinions.

We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT to house the accounting processes for a non-profit. It integrates with Raiser's Edge, eliminating duplicate entry into two separate systems. This change has reduced the use of redundant spreadsheets and has saved staff a significant amount of time. The opportunity to provide reports directly out of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT has been very helpful.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Since I work in HR/Benefits my main tasks in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT are around benefit billing. We use the AR module for this task after Raiser's Edge was terminated. The AR module is very different that Raiser's Edge was which is fine, however there was a loss of functionality for us with the switch. Part of this was due to the type of billing we were doing and our organization's unique needs. We have adjusted to the AR module but the new challenge is the slow switch of the AR module from database view to the web view. Currently functionality of AR is split between these views causing it to be very challenging to complete our benefit billing. I am hopeful that once AR is fully transitioned to web view and we have a chance to use it we will have a good experience. My only hesitation is that the transition from Raiser's Edge to AR was a very negative one so I am having a hard time believing this time will be different.

We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT for all non-profit accounting needs from AP to AR, treasury management, reporting, expense management and integration with Tuition Management and Raiser's Edge. The platform has drastically helped our school streamline data collection, communication between systems and expedite all processes related to accounting and back office administration.
