We have utilized Blackbaud NetCommunity for email communications with our constituents including e-newsletters, appeals, and special announcements. We also used Blackbaud NetCommunity for setting up donation pages on our website to collect gifts from our constituents. The forms allowed us to easily create donation pages that were secure and easy to use by our constituents.

Blackbaud NetCommunity is a simple and straightforward fundraising platform and can be easily implemented. The program allows for email communications, sign-ups, and online donation forms. It is great for segmenting specific messages to different constituents. We had several different e-newsletters and constituents could sign up for specific ones. In addition, we could change the messaging in the emails to specific groups.
  • The secure online donation forms provided a big boost to our online donations
  • Ease of importing data into Raiser's Edge was a time saving feature over having to enter the data manually
We started out with Blackbaud NetCommunity but eventually switched to Blackbaud's Online Express. Online Express offered more features and was included with the upgrade to Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge NXT. Blackbaud NetCommunity did meet most of our needs and was a great starting point for our e-communications and online forms within our website.
Blackbaud NetCommunity and all of the Blackbaud products have a great support system. Blackbaud NetCommunity offers support through phone calls, chats, online, and email. Their response time is very quick and the support analysts work with you to resolve issues in a very timely matter. If they do not personally know the answer they will direct you to another support analyst that will be able to assist in a resolution.

We use Blackbaud NetCommunity across the entire organization. We put on over 100 programs per year and handled all our event registrations through NC; we also take donations and process memberships through the interface. Our volunteers are also able to sign up for volunteer opportunities on line.
It integrates well with our Raiser's Edge database and the plug-in to download transactions is pretty smooth.
  • Integrate with Raiser's Edge. This is important for us because our staff resources are limited - like any nonprofit - and the smooth integration with oru FundRaising software is critical to our mission.
  • Event Registrations work well, you can register for as many events as you like
  • The pages are easy for most of the staff to manage, after training, each department helps the web master by making small changes as needed by their respective department.
  • Some of the membership information and functionality is limited; we would love to have memberships for an organization, but currently there is not an organization sign on.
  • Some of the acknowledgment pages are limited in resource information
  • An event dashboard is unavailable at this time - meaning an organization can not sign in and see who is coming as their guest to our gala
Well suited for organizations with membership and event needs. The donation pages are good, but if your are ONLY taking donations and do not need to worry about the events or membership, then one of the "smaller" blackbaud products may be for you. I LOVE the integration between BBNC and Raiser's edge. This is the best integration I've experienced between an on-line site and the Raiser's Edge.
  • Almost ALL of our transactions occur on line, so our mailing costs on renewals have gone down, and with an increase in "good" experiences on line for our end users, they become more engaged with us and in turn remain loyal supporters.

We have one full time web master, 4 of the staff of 17 manage specific parts of netcommunity that coincide with their respective departments. For example the programs department takes care of shopping cart udpdates when we have new events come up, the membership department takes care of updating the membership forms and acknowledgement.

Premium support includes phone calls for support needs; the basic level of support your initial point of contact is chat support. Since I have been using the product for 7 years, my requests tend to be a more advance user need and chat support is challenging since the information is limited and you have to type everything in words instead of having an actual conversation and dialog with the support staff. Premium Support is WELL worth the extra cost as it saves time when troubleshooting.
The support staff is very knowledgeable and is invested in solving the issues that arise. Many times I've had the analyst say let me test this and get back to you within X time frame. The fact that they want to test the product and give a time frame helps me manage my expectations with the length that the case will be open and the possible solution/outcome resolution.

The donation page acknowledgement email was not updating with new text. Blackbaud was able to fix this right away.
The support person got 3 different analysts on the line because the interface between NetCommunity and Raiser's Edge was not working as expected. Between the 3 analysts, a software designer and myself we were able to teamwork the solution in one day.

  • Event registrations allow for guest names to come across and anonymous - for those instances where you do not know your guest names yet; It also allows for dietary requirements and while you can not log in as an organization, you can register as an organization for events.
  • Managing the Acknowledgement pages - sometimes the text editor is very cumbersome, and to find the Save button you have to scroll down to find it.
  • The membership module has limited functionality, and some of the merge fields we would like to user from Raiser's edge are not available for use as merge fields.
  • The volunteer module is also limited - we have work arounds in place so we can use it but would love some increased functionality.
The interface with Raiser's Edge and the many different ways our users can interact with the website are
a big plus for us. Event registrations are our most popular transaction type and having this on line makes our lives much easier.

We use NetCommunity to provide a web page for grant applications on our main website. We chose this product due to it's integration with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge and Fusion Lab's GrantEdge. It is deployed in a three server setup. We use a DMZ facing web server, an internal Raisers Edge Web Services Server and the Database server. It allows us to provide an application for users to fill out on the web in order to apply for a particular grant in their field. That application is then filled out and the information is passed on to the GrantEdge program to process the grant.
In addition to this we also use NetCommunity to manage our email newsletters and memberships to email lists.
  • It is very good at integrating with other BlackBaud products.
  • It is also great at providing a simple to understand interface for editing the pages it serves.
  • It is fairly straight forward to setup new users and roles for memberships to an email list.
  • The upgrade process has never been easy for us. This typically takes more than 3 days to work with support to figure out.
  • With the integrations we use it can be difficult to diagnose problems with the system.
  • I do not like that it can be very slow at times even with low bandwidth usage.
  • The database can grow quickly and become larger than expected.
I think the sweet spot for NetCommunity is in the email blasts and newsletters. I would encourage users to look at other options when it comes to a quick and affordable solution for serving web pages. It does work well for web pages but we have noticed that the trouble it takes to upgrade and maintain for such a small portion of the program it is not really worth it on that front. The BlackBaud support is very good though.
  • At the time it was the only product available that would provide us with a way to send newsletters to our Raisers Edge Constituents.
  • The amount of administration time to upgrade has been a big pain for downtime and time lost with an on staff engineer.
  • Currently it is the only product we can use to properly intake applications for grants into our GrantEdge program.
  • Silverpop
SilverPop seems to be much easier to use when it comes to newsletters. It also moves all of the mail sending activity out of our domain and ip addresses. Due to this fact alone we have had much less spam and have not had our ip addresses or domain name listed on spam lists.

We are a religious organization so the mold doesn't exactly fit for most canned responses here. The business functions represent our communications department and the donation and funds development departments. Since we accept applications for grants with this software as well we tend to have some unique requirements for the product. The typical user on site for this will be in a job function that tends to lean towards a program area assistant.

We have a small IT department for a small to medium size enterprise. We rely heavily on the Blackbaud support and knowledge base for most of our help. The Blackbaud support team is very responsive when it comes to helping via a chat session or by directing us to articles on their site for our own answers.

The only reason for this is due to the fact that we are only using the product for a specific purpose that is not directly tied to the newsletters. There are better products out there for what we are doing with grant processing. We will most likely move to a new software instead of renewing for our purposes.
Blackbaud has been great with their customer support. As with any support, you eventually end up with a few bad apples here and there. Overall I have been very pleased with their level of support and follow up. This particular product has certainly caused me the for support several times when upgrading.

They were very helpful on our last round up upgrades. The exceptional level in this case was when they provided instructions and help with the latest upgrade knowing that we would be able to run this without the need for their professional services. Not a lot of support companies go this far. Most would simply send you a KB link and then explain that you will need their pro services to get any further help.

  • Data integration with The Raiser's Edge - data which is collected in Blackbaud NetCommunity directly integrates with The Raiser's Edge interface and can be seamlessly downloaded into the CRM.
  • Donation/Event/Membership registration - the product comes with out-of-the-box forms that can be used for these basic functions. They are flexible, but structured enough to integrate the data back to the CRM.
  • Email marketing - constituents can be emailed directly from the Blackbaud NetCommunity platform by querying the data available in the CRM. Targeted email communications can be setup as well as ongoing subscriptions/newsetters.
  • Content management - general tools to manage content are available. Business users can add/modify/delete this content without tremendous technical expertise. The content can also be shared across multiple websites - or A/B split tested to determine preference.
  • Friendly URLs - the product allows for friendly URLs that are also more searchable on the major search engines (i.e. Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.).
  • For mass volumes of data, the Raiser's Edge plug-in can become tedious to manage.
  • Less staff cost on importing web data into The Raiser's Edge as it is now integrated from Blackbaud NetCommunity.
  • Email marketing efforts are more targeted and now have a higher response rate. This equates to increased fundraising dollars.
  • Our advancement and alumni communities are branded like our entire website. This provides a seamless user experience to our constituents and makes our internal departments appear much more integrated. This ultimately builds consumer confidence in our brand.
  • A/B split testing has allowed us to further tailor content that is preferred by our audience. This targeting allows us to be more successful in gaining conversions, event registrations, etc.
I have worked with NetCommunity for a number of years and feel that it is well designed. It has a good product team behind it - as well as a vibrant support community. If you are a Raiser's Edge user, NetCommunity is the way to go.

We evaluated a number of open source products (i.e. Drupal, WordPress) as well as a few commercial options (i.e. SiteCore). In the end, Blackbaud has built an integrated product in NetCommunity. We found that the features in the 'Pro' version were exactly what we are looking for in a Content Management System. It came with all of the benefits of a commercial CMS with the added value of integration to our CRM and the ability to provide email marketing capabilities.

Support/maintenance is a standard part of our agreement.
Support has been fantastic. Blackbaud has multiple avenues (i.e. chat, knowledgebase, phone) in which to connect. The individuals have been generally knowledgeable and quick to resolve any issues that we've experienced.
Product is logical. Nice interface and provides a good user experience.
Product is stable is up 99.99% of the time. As a hosted customer, we do experience some minor downtime when routers or switches malfunction. We feel the downtime has been minimal and the communications around these outages has been good.
Blackbaud NetCommunity uses .NET technology. It can be sluggish at times if not optimized, but overall we have been pleased with the performance when handling large volumes of traffic.

The sales process happened quickly. To ensure your needs are met, draft an RFP and allow Blackbaud to respond. We have found this method favorable. Post-sale, the implementation team has been professional and responsible with our project.
Each customer will be able to negotiate terms with Blackbaud depending on their needs and when they can make a purchase. Typically, end of month or end of quarter cycles were favorable to us for pricing.
