We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our primary CRM for our nonprofit private high school. We use primarily a Development-based system of fundraising, so relationships are extremely important for our donor base. Keeping accurate and updated information is critical. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT keeps track of our donors and donations and allows us to see comprehensively how we're progressing toward our fundraising goals. We've also started using it to track event attendance and do strategic communications based on that engagement.
Pros
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT provides everything you need for a fundraising CRM
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT does have communication options integrated to the system
Reporting can be exceptional if you work at it
We're very happy with most of the receipting features
Cons
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is constantly updating and making major changes, so you never fully understand the system
The way some things are labeled in the system doesn't make logical sense. You almost have to learn a whole new language to get the most out of the features.
There's no way to re-generate a copy of a receipt, which is wildly inconvenient.
A lot of features are very limited based on your subscription. They give you a wide range of features but almost none of them work to their full potential. Even if you're paying a lot of money for the system, you will still likely feel like you're doing a free trial.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is great for a small organization that just needs to track their giving. It will house data and give you some output that can help inform strategy. However, if you really want the system to work for you, you desperately need someone who is tech savvy, detail oriented, and strategy minded. Almost nothing is set up for you at the beginning. You will need to build a lot of the reports, dashboards, and queries yourself. If you've used the system for a while, anything you build will eventually fail because of how often Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT changes things in the system. This system is great for organizations that are small and simple.
It is our primary CRM software. We record all of our interactions with our donors in the records. In addition we process the majority of our recurring gifts utilizing the Blackbaud resources available with our Raiser's Edge NXT subscription. It has become an invaluable tool for our organization and something that we use every single day.
Pros
Record Keeping
Payment processing and solutions
Reports
Cons
Sometime customer support is a bit hit and miss. There are times when more information is needed than individual agents provide.
The learning curve is quite steep as it is a robust program. Some of the articles available online can be dated or not useful with the current product.
While the integration between the desktop version and online version of Raiser's Edge integrate will, they function a bit differently and becoming proficient in one doesn't necessary result in proficiency in the other.

As a non-profit organization we are very happy with the product that Blackbaud has provided in Raiser's Edge NXT. It is useful and has become an incredibly important tool for our organization. Organizing constituent records and keeping track of all interactions, processing both one-time and recurring payments and creating robust and useful reports are all things this suite excels at.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is used to store all information on our supporters and their giving. It provides a centralised place for this data - I have used the product for over a decade including the heavy use of optional modules such as membership, volunteering, tributes and legacies. I have seen a lot of the (very slow!) transition from database view to webview / NXT.
Pros
Centralised place to store secure information
A single holistic overview of supporter activity
Gift processing and reporting on income
Cons
There is so much missing functionality in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT (webview) compared to database view - whilst they repeatedly tell us to switch to webview we simply can't due to crucial functionality that is missing.
In our experience, there are a lot of false promises made, particularly when renewing contracts etc, about what functionality is coming soon to webview - particularly regarding the optional modules such as Volunteering.
An increased focus from Blackbaud and all their marketing about pushing third party vendors for certain activities (email marketing being a big one!) all of which come at an additional cost. Although these integrate into Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT, I would prefer Blackbaud to focus on making its own functionality up to standard rather than integrating costly 3rd party platforms.
In my experience, Support for the platform has got worse over the years - I have been waiting over six months to resolve a technical issue which is hampering our use of the functionality.
Inability to create letters within the system (which used to be a feature in RE7 database view) is a huge issue for our supporter base who still appreciate paper-based acknowledgement letters.

Well suited to large charities or universities with a large supporter base and huge budgets. Good for when there are a lot of staff interacting with supporters to ensure a holistic and co-oridinated approach.
When sending emails through BlackBaud Rauser's Edge NXT we have trouble with the layout and formatting of the emails. Also, I can't query on hard bounce vs. soft bounce emails. I manually have to go to the constituent scroll down to the bottom on their record to the email history tile and click view email history.
Pros
User friendly site
ADA Compliant
Offers Blackbaud University
Cons
Emails
Education Tile
Duplicate Management
Address Finder
Email Finder
Phone Finder

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NEXT is well suited by entering a new constituent (individual or organization) from the unified web page home page is user friendly. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT scenarios where it is less appropriate is by deleting duplicate majors from education tile when using the import button in Database view.
We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our main database for processing any donation, keeping records of all our donors. I think the main problem it solves is the fact it is a database that keeps all our donors information safe. It is also great for keeping track of any targets for each income stream, its all very accessible and easy to understand
Pros
Reporting
Banking donations
Training
Cons
Aesthetic looks
Connecting with other platforms
Make things a bit more digestable
Likelihood to Recommend
I think it is great if you are processing a lot of donations as its very reliable in that sense and great if you are using their events feature but for us we find it hard to use when we have to import donations from platforms like Enthuse as there is no integrations but other databases have this platform. Additionally, it doesnt have the like predictive AI features that others have as well.
Currently we use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for online donation forms only, we use the database view for everything else. The reason that we use the donation forms in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is because it is the only way that you can allow the donor to pay the credit card fees. There are two types of donor-cover options, and I believe that the "complete cover" option is very misleading for donors as they are not aware the money is going directly to BB and the rate they are charged is higher than all the credit card fees that the organization pays. We chose to do "donor-cover" instead. It took a bit of trail and error switching our online giving forms from the database to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT because not all the functions of the database are available in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT, changing our procedures and making the entry more difficult.
Pros
Allows donors to cover credit card/direct debit fees
Easy to see an overview of the donor record
Cons
It is hard to find specific settings because they are mixed into the different modules and there is a lot of trial and error to find them.
Defaulting to automatically match constituents to their records for transactions is really bad, manual review should be the default as people make mistakes and they do not know how our database is set up. A simple thing of the donor entering 'St." and our record having "Street" would cause a duplicate to be created, this is just horrible for database maintenance.
You cannot apply a gift to a pledge in batch, you have to commit the batch and then go into the database to apply the gift to a pledge. Not everyone has an automatically paid pledge - even if it is not as widely used of a function, all functionality in the database view of batch should be incorporated to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT. You cannot expect us to use the product with LESS functionality.

The reason I give this score a 5 is because my recommendation would be based on what they want to use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for. If it's for reporting, I'd say absolutely not, if it's for online express, I'd give it a positive recommendation with some cavoites as it does not function quite like the database, but it works. In our experience reporting is just flat wrong in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT because adjustments are not taken into consideration.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is our current solution for all data related to the organization supporters. It is the sole gateway for all the information we utilize to make strategic approaches in fundraising campaigns. One of the great things about working with a Blackbaud product is the support received. They are great at troubleshooting any issues and following up as needed when an immediate solution may not be available.
Pros
Easy to navigate.
Easy to download and output reports.
Accesible via mobile, which is useful on the go.
Great customer support.
Cons
The main one that comes to mind is customization. It’s probably one of the biggest things that would be great to see.
Improve the syncing of data between LO and RE.
Improve importing to avoid less duplicates. De-duping is a manual process. Automation would be great!

Personally, I feel that Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is a good solution for any size organization. They have all you need to maintain and use data regardless of how many records. It’s easy to learn and use. Plus, they offer a ton of resources that you can use to constantly keep learning how to best use features.
I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT daily to track my activities in Major Gift fund raising for a regional comprehensive public university in the Midwest. I'm able to keep my Portfolio of donors organized, and using the Actions and other tools, prioritize my outreach, follow-up and next steps for successful outcomes. I enjoy the ease and detail of the Actions, and the customization of the appearance of the constituent pages' content in the web view. I sometimes find that the Constituent lists generated can help me focus when I engage in travel outside my "normal" assigned geographic areas, and appreciate the filtering to prioritize those constituents.
Pros
Easy organization and customization of constituent information.
Searchability of constituent lists by more than name.
Greater detail within data fields such as specific gifts or event attendance.
Cons
Organization of information within generated constituent lists sometimes doesn't seem as easy to customize as I'd like
Likelihood to Recommend
I can quickly look at the pertinent information within a constituent's record by arranging the tiles and having them either expanded or collapsed as needed. I am often able to look into a donor's particular gifts and see the details I need, but sometimes the information isn't complete (method of remittance, etc.), which could be in how we use it more than the Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT setup itself.
We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our fundraising CRM to track donations, manage relationships, organize events, and solicit donors. We are a small non-profit college with a little less than 40K constituent records.
Pros
User Interface
Continuous Improvement
Ample Recourses
Cons
Miss-match of functionality between Database and Web View
Length of time it takes before necessary functionality is added
Workflows and user interfaces are not designed to support Database Administration work
Features missing basic functionality
Likelihood to Recommend
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT has long been the gold standard when it comes to Donor CRMS so there are many benefits of working with a system that so many organizations use. Web view features make data easily accessible for fundraising staff however not all Database view functionally has been successfully moved over to the Web view. With Database view still functional as whole this isn't a big problem however, as they move to sunset Database view there is potential for Database Administrators to be left with system that has significant reduced functionality than it had in the past. This potential for long-term reduced functionality combined with their exponential price increase year over year significantly reduce the likelihood of me recommending Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to a colleague.
