What is Brightpearl?

Brightpearl’s retail operations platform is designed to handle peak trading, integrates with the full retail tech ecosystem, and is omni-channel native. Additionally, the vendor says their solution is the system of record for key trading data, provides real-time trading insights and is automated so users can stay in control and manage by exception.

According to the vendor key differentiators include:
  • Software and Service. Service is an integral part of Brightpearl's offer. The vendor says their retail consultants get users live three times faster than traditional ERP, always for a fixed cost. And the in-house team is available throughout, from tech support to ongoing business consulting.
  • Built for Retail. Brightpearl is built only for the retail sector. This means: configuration not coding, designed for use by merchants not IT staff, every new feature is relevant, and their integrations and ecosystem are 100% retail.
  • Designed to Scale. Whether it’s seasonal peaks, promotions or sustained growth, merchants need an ops platform that can handle the volume. The vendor says they stand by their numbers: orders, SKUs, channels, reporting and financials fit for multi-million dollar merchants.

Brightpearl is a versatile platform that is used by various departments within an organization to streamline their operations and improve efficiency. Users have imported their client databases and categorized clients based on their profession, allowing them to generate accurate target lists for mailings. The operations team relies on Brightpearl to fulfill orders, enter shipping information, and manage inventory levels. The product management team utilizes the platform to collect and analyze campaign data, determine popular products through sales data, and manage SKUs and technological functions.

Brightpearl serves as a comprehensive solution for sales, inventory, marketing, and contact management. It is particularly helpful in keeping track of inventory and customer information, allowing users to integrate with other platforms such as Amazon and Shopify. The platform fulfills the organization's needs for stock management and invoicing. However, some users have found the CRM and reporting functions to be lacking. Brightpearl provides valuable insights into daily financial reports, marketing strategies, and customer behavior, enabling users to log calls, send emails, and track spending trends. Furthermore, the software is praised for its ability to simplify inventory management, order processing, and customer service, helping businesses save time and improve shipping efficiency. Overall, Brightpearl offers a range of use cases that address accounting, inventory, sales tracking, and customer management needs across multiple departments within an organization.

Positive Pros:

Customers have felt supported throughout their journey with the product, as representatives promptly address their queries and provide valuable assistance when needed. This responsive support has contributed positively to users' overall experience.

Confusing User Interface: Many users have found Brightpearl's user interface to be confusing, leading to difficulties in completing tasks. The layout and organization of features are not intuitive, resulting in a steep learning curve for new users. Some reviewers have mentioned that certain functions are buried within multiple menus or tabs, making it time-consuming to find and access specific tools.

Poor Communication and Updates: Users have experienced issues with poor communication and updates from Brightpearl, resulting in functionality problems and the need for regular retraining. Timely information about system changes or bug fixes has been lacking, causing confusion and frustration among users who rely on accurate and up-to-date software functionality.

Lack of Integration Options: Several users have mentioned that the software has been overpromised in terms of integration with external systems, causing them to seek alternative, untested integrations. The limited integration options provided by Brightpearl fell short of expectations for some customers, requiring them to explore other solutions that may come with additional challenges and potential risks.

Users have provided several recommendations for Brightpearl based on their experiences with the platform. The most common recommendations are as follows:

  1. Gain a thorough understanding of how Brightpearl integrates and works with all channels: Users suggest taking the time to learn all the features of Brightpearl to maximize efficiency when using the platform. This includes understanding how it integrates with various channels, such as eBay and Amazon, to ensure smooth operations across multiple sales channels.

  2. Prepare and test data before implementing Brightpearl: It is advised to get data in order before implementing Brightpearl and to watch support videos on YouTube to better understand the product before going live. Users recommend properly preparing and testing external databases and consulting with Brightpearl about their capabilities, particularly when importing products.

  3. Take advantage of training resources and ask questions: Users recommend fully understanding the functions of Brightpearl before starting and ensuring that all products and transactions are added correctly. They also advise asking lots of questions about how Brightpearl integrates with current systems and meeting other companies currently using the system. In addition, involving all users in the training process can help avoid answering their questions later on.

Overall, users recommend investing time in learning and exploring Brightpearl's capabilities, preparing data thoroughly, and seeking support from both external resources and the company itself.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I was really impressed by the level of support and frequency of meetings we had in the run up to the implementation. It was quite daunting and there was a lot to consider for the day we put it live but no question was too big or too small and the implementation team were great problem solvers when we ran into sticking points

Our implementation was a disaster but that was not Brightpearls' fault. It did mean however that we used up a lot of goodwill and valuable help time, which meant we were a bit on our own when we finally got up and running. The main issue was that the staff member on our side was just not the right person to handle the job. It is key that someone on the company side not only take ownership but that they have the ability to do it (our guy did not-but his replacement did and it was like night and day..!). Switching systems is never going to be easy. It's best to pick a time as well when you know everyone will have time to get on with it rather than peak season when everyone is stretched and cannot give their attention, so timing is important too.

The implementation of Brightpearl went rather smoothly for the most part. That being said, we were familiar with the system previously (from our other stores) and we paid for Gold Support to have someone on call (which was great) and to do training.

I think we made a fundamental flaw when adding a brand new Brightpearl account instead of tacking on a new store to the existing account because there was no linking between our stores. This was partly due to server issues but also partly to do with our own lack of knowledge with how the system works (AKA user error).

Very weak support and slow response when setting up BrightpearlBP New Zealand. Just trying to get a demo sandbox account set up was a struggle. [We were] passed back and forward from the UK to the USA and basically made to feel unwanted. Help with actual implementation was unavailable in an acceptable timeframe and we resorted to trying ourselves and using a third party which was not ideal, expensive and time-consuming. I suggest regional experts if you intend to market Brightpearl outside the UK. Phone support for implementation is not too much to expect given that the solution is not a low-cost solution and has significant shortfalls which always seem to need a 'workaround' (this seems to be one of the favourite words in the support responses and should give a clue that there are major usability shortfalls).

There was a lot of information to take in and it was explained incredibly well. The only issue would be that after using the system for a few weeks a few problems arose but we were not able to make contact via phone. It had to be done via email which is not always the best way to explain something. If you want phone support this is an additional cost.

Unfortunately, the switch to Brightpearl from our previous POS was not quite so smooth as I'd hoped. There were quite a few problems (both user-error induced and otherwise) that made the change difficult, and the support that we received was not quite as expedient as we were hoping it would be. Once things have had the chance to kick in, though, the change to Brightpearl was very obviously the right choice.

The implementation is something you are best to seriously look at yourselves, rather than do what we did and pay for the transfer package I believe it was called. We did not feel this was a good value, many mistakes were made and it took a lot of hours to get things back on track (we switched from Sage Line 50).

I was very happy with the implementation since it was really easy to figure. The challenge has been teaching our group to make sure to update brightpearl when we are shipping out product. Since we came from a manual environment this has been a challenge in keeping inventory correct but we are training.

The people handling our integration didn't try to get to know our business at all to help us integrate it. They sent us a few lists to go through for chart of accounts, had us send our inventory list over, and they uploaded those. Then we went through a bunch of trainings which to me were not very helpful. I do better figuring it out on my own. I feel like we could have done most of it ourselves with just a little coaching.

I was not directly involved with the implementation of Brightpearl but from what I've heard, it was good experience with not much difficulty getting the program/company to adapt to our business.

The implementation process of Brightpearl is timely and involved. There is not a good set of documentation or walk-through in order to allow the end user to understand it. For younger companies that may not have the knowledge, it would be highly suggested to incorporate someone with setup experience to get you running.

It was a pretty seamless transition from our old system to brightpearl. We were able to transfer inventory and our client database through an instructed process from the Brightpearl support team. We were also able to resume daily operations very quickly and in a more efficient manner once we were more comfortable using the product.

We had several video chat seminars with Anthony who explained how our specific company could and would do each individual task.
Then we were given a few days to make orders and fulfill processing with mock orders. Once we were up and running with Brightpearl, we were given a few more question and answer sessions.
