What is Buddy Punch?

Buddy Punch is an online time tracking and scheduling application. Track time, time off, locations, and jobs. The solution aims to help punching in & out intuitive for employees & easy for users to view & export time. Employees can clock in using a browser or the Buddy Punch Google, iOS, & Android apps. Users can view who's working, their GPS position or even limit where they can punch. The solution integrates with QuickBooks, ADP, Paychex, & SurePayroll while also offering Excel exports. Advanced features such as Time Off Accrual Tracking, Punch Rounding, Job Codes, QR Codes, Automatic Breaks, & SSO are all included in our cloud based time clock.

Buddy Punch is used by our entire team for the purposes of scheduling and payroll tracking. Our staff was having an issue clocking in with the previous software, and I was looking for a faster payroll solution. As an owner, my time is valuable and I didn't want to spend it problem-solving with software or handholding my staff on clocking in.
Pros
  • Customer service is the best we've seen! Their knowledge base is clear, and when we do have a question it can't answer, we get a quick, informed solution.
  • The software allows us to schedule our staff seamlessly for work in more than one department in a day, so tracking how many payroll hours are being used in each department is easy.
  • The reporting for Payroll hours is easy and fast.
Cons
  • We'd love to see new hire onboarding added, since Buddy Punch does everything else so well, we expect it would be great!
Likelihood to Recommend
We own a doggy daycare and boarding facility that also offers training, grooming, walking, and pet sitting. Buddy Punch was the perfect fit for us since we have employees clocking in on and off-site, and working in different departments on the same day.

Return on Investment
  • Being able to free my time as an Owner is invaluable!
  • My staff is happy they don't have to struggle with clocking in and out.
  • I'm happy not to have to contact customer service as often and not be frustrated.
Alternatives Considered
We originally scheduled and ran payroll through Homebase, but in the last few months the software became very buggy, customer service was slow and when they did respond, was not helpful. When we cancelled our account they didn't even try to make things right. We are so happy that Buddy Punch is like us--taking care of their clients and really invested in their success!

I use Buddy Punch every day to clock in and out of work. It makes navigating through the website so easy! I never have to worry if I clocked in correctly. It is very user friendly and so practical. Every company should use Buddy punch for their employees. It is very hassle free, and the customer service is great!

It is perfect if you need to punch in for work. Punch out for lunch. And clock out for the day. Loading the website is super-fast. The menu section makes everything very easy. I never have had an issue where I can't get to a section that I want to.

We use Buddy Punch company wide. Having the ability to track employee hours by department and location is a huge benefit to us as we can find out where the most time is spent. We also require GPS location in case we run into issues with employees clocking in/out when they are not where they are supposed to be.
Pros
  • Their customer service is second to none. We have requested several changes over the years for the web interface and app; I think all the requests we've made were implemented by this point. I only wish this was the case with other companies we utilize.
  • They allow you to set different pay rates based on department which allows us to pay employees more for the skilled jobs they perform versus the more basic work they perform. This is a huge benefit to a small company as it encourages employees to strive for more skilled work and they keep moving up the ladder to become even better assets to the company.
  • The reports you can run are very thorough and work very well for us when it comes time to enter payroll.
  • Having the ability to set alerts has allowed us to cut back on unnecessary overtime as employees can get reminders prior to going over. We can also set reminders for employees to punch in/out for the ones that have a tendency to forget.
Cons
  • The app used to be subpar, but it functions much better now and has more features. I know this isn't a CON at this point, but it's worth mentioning.
  • The Time Off Calendar doesn't fit a computer screen which is a little difficult to use at times. Maybe instead of it showing each employee who is scheduled for PTO that day it should show there is PTO for that day and you can click on it to show the employees and what the PTO is for.
  • It would be nice to switch between Employees when you are viewing their details without having to go back to the list. When I enter PTO at the beginning of the year it takes longer because I have to go back to the list to get into the information for each employee.
  • It would be nice if an employees PTO balance is at zero or will go to zero with the requested time off that the employee and manager/admin knew without having to view the employee info.
Likelihood to Recommend
Absolutely a 10. While there are a few things we'd like to see tweaked the overall experience is great. As I previously said, I wish other companies we used were as receptive to our feedback and willing to help when asked. I can't tell you how many hours of lost time we have each year due to sitting on the phone or in a live chat with customer service for other services we use.

  • Pay Rates able to be set by department/location
  • Alerts for OT and punch in/out
  • Employee Detail Reports
  • Being able to switch department/location in the app without punching out then back in.
Return on Investment
  • Improved Efficiency: Allows us to track time when employees are on site.
  • Reduced Costs: Able to avoid unnecessary OT due to employees getting alerts.
  • Reduced Costs: No longer paying an employee to tally hours like when we used a regular time clock.
Alternatives Considered
When we decided to try Buddy Punch we were using a normal time clock and needed to have a better way to track time. I reviewed a few products, but went with Buddy Punch and have been happy ever since.

I use Buddy Punch for a time clock function. Very easy to use and navigate. If I do have issues, Rachel has always been there for me. Before Rachel, Eric was the first person of contact, and was very helpful on signing me up with Buddy Punch.

  • Deactivating past employees from use of the system
  • Adding new hires
  • Rachel is very helpful on reports that you may be seeking

  • I am very please with the system.

I can not say enough about Buddy Punch with all the help and service that I receive. Rachel is quick on sending out the invite welcome letters for all my new hires.
