Buildertrend is a versatile software that serves as a primary means of communication, job tracking, financing, and product orders for companies in the construction industry. Many users find it essential for running a successful company, especially larger ones. For example, Coval Homes, a home builder in Washington, relies on Buildertrend as their main platform for various aspects of their work, excluding the marketing team. Similarly, Three Amigos Roofing, Inc. uses Buildertrend to streamline processes and maximize revenue in the roofing business.

One of the key benefits reported by users is the time-saving automation capabilities of Buildertrend. Tasks such as creating estimates, using digital signatures, and collecting down payments electronically are automated, allowing users to focus on other important aspects of their work. Additionally, Buildertrend aids in proper organization by providing features for managing leads, ongoing jobs, and previous projects. Users can import and customize job site templates for each project, ensuring that all necessary documents, photos, subcontractors, and vendors are assigned to their respective roles.

Furthermore, Buildertrend is highly regarded for its financial management capabilities. It allows users to track and manage all aspects of residential remodeling projects, including customer information, schedules, selections, change orders, invoices, and payments. This comprehensive approach provides users with greater control over project finances. Additionally, the ability to link all documents and tasks to the calendar gives visibility on roles, dates, and times for each phase of a project.

However, some users have expressed concerns about pricing changes made by BuilderTrend. They feel that the software has become too expensive for smaller contractors. Another potential challenge is the initial setup process which can be time-consuming and may require multiple iterations to get it right.

In summary, Buildertrend offers a range of useful features for companies in the construction industry. From automating tasks and organizing projects to managing finances and improving communication between teams and clients; this software has become a valuable tool for many users. While there are some concerns about pricing and initial setup, the overall benefits reported by users make Buildertrend a popular choice for managing construction projects effectively.

Homeowner portal: Users have found the Homeowner portal in Buildertrend to be excellent, with easy access to project details and effective communication with the team. Several reviewers appreciated the feature that keeps confidential items separated for security purposes.

Cost Tracking: Many users highlighted the Cost Tracking feature in Buildertrend as a valuable tool for managing change orders, product orders, contracts, and more. The Financing section was particularly useful in keeping everything on track for both users and homeowners.

Daily Logs: The Daily Logs feature in Buildertrend has received high praise from users who have multiple ongoing jobs. It is seen as extremely helpful in keeping the whole team on the same page and providing valuable insights into project progress.

Lack of CRM Tools: Some users have expressed that Buildertrend lacks robust CRM tools compared to other platforms, such as Salesforce or Hubspot. They feel that this limits its effectiveness for sales and marketing purposes.

Notification Customization Issues: Several users have reported difficulties with receiving notifications from clients on Buildertrend. Specifically, they mention challenges in customizing notification lists for specific jobs. Users suggest the need for a separate option to receive direct message notifications.

Limited Trial Period: A common sentiment among reviewers is the desire for a more flexible trial period. While Buildertrend offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, some users believe that this falls short compared to having an actual free trial. They express the need for a longer trial period to fully evaluate the software's suitability for their needs.

Users commonly recommend the following strategies when using BuilderTrend:

  1. Use BuilderTrend right from the beginning and take advantage of its various features for construction project management. This recommendation is based on the belief that BuilderTrend is a great choice with good support, easy usability, and multi-functionality. Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

Buildertrend's listed pricing information is obsolete, they have revised their pricing to start somewhere north of $900 per month, pricing me, a long time user and early adopter out of their system. I'm a small contractor, with one user, and maybe $190,000 annual volume. In my opinion, $17,000 in overhead expense is outrageous, and I feel I've been kicked to the curb by a system that has decided to abandon their existing user base because we don't offer the revenue stream they desire, despite our long term support and use. In my experience, they even charged me an additional monthly fee two weeks after I requested cancellation, during which time I never accessed the program. In my opinion, they started out as a very responsive user-oriented company, but success has led them to stab their original users in the back. Beware the "Midwestern Nice" fluff they project, I feel this company is not your friend unless your volume exceeds two million dollars.

Buildertrend is used for our centralized location for all things to do with a given job. It is a great way that we can all collaborate, provide our customers with exceptional customer service and this gives us all the information we need to build the homes as our customers want, without missing the little things. Going to Buildertrend and setting it up was a painful experience. It took a very long time and was something that took several iterations to get correct.

Coval Homes, a Washington home builder, is using Buildertrend as our primary means of communication, job tracking, financing, product orders, and much more. We've been extremely happy to use this system for about 5 years or more now.
All team members use this system in some aspect with our marketing as the only exception. Our sales and marketing teams use another CRM with more sales and marketing tools, which is why Buildertrend was given an 8/10 score in my estimation.

I work for the General Contractor as the Operations Manager. He has used Buildertrend in the past and liked it. Buildertrend is a complete management system and it's really quite essential to running a successful company. The larger the company I think the more sense this product makes - not that it isn't important for all sizes. But the cost is a little high when initially assessing the product - however, it is the top of the line in the industry and it does offer a superior service. Overall, I don't think you go wrong with Buildertrend and it's a must-have for construction companies.

Being fairly new to using BuilderTrend my initial out of the gate experience is very good. I really like how you can custom tailor the job portals and share templates with others inside the company. One of the really nice features we started to use is the uploading of photos for daily field reports, which allows the clients and offsite staff to see progress not just with words, but pictures.

It allows home builders, remodelers, specialty contractors and general contractors to utilize a customer relationship management system, bids, and proposals. This is accomplished through project management tools including scheduling, budgeting, time sheets, etc. while also providing access to customer management tools such as warranty requests and payment processing. The program also has various other capabilities like estimating, takeoff and more.

As the owner of Three Amigos Roofing, Inc. I use BuilderTrend to streamline processes and maximize revenue. The first part of my process is creating an estimate and submitting it to my customers. I save time by automating the following processes: creating estimates, using digital signatures, and collecting down payments electronically once the homeowner has approved the contract. When building an estimate, the first step is using proper cost codes and line item descriptions. This sets me up for a successful transition when the job is won. Next, I will mark the lead opportunity as sold. All of my files, pictures, communication, and estimate will then push over to the job site dashboard. This allows me to keep my leads organized and my ongoing and previous jobs separate. Once the lead becomes a job, I then import a job site template. This job site is customized for the project. In this example, the project is a roof replacement. Once the job site template is selected, my entire job is built out with the proper documents and photos in the right place and the proper subcontractors and vendors assigned to their role in the build. I use the approved estimate to create my material work order that will be sent over to my supplier. I then go back to the approved estimate and create my roofers work order that will be sent over to my subcontractor to sign off on prior to the job starting. All of these documents and tasks are linked to my calendar so everyone knows their role, date, and time each phase will start and end. In the event there is a shift in the schedule, I will update the calendar and all other phases will be updated simultaneously. We’ve tried many different CRM and Project Management tools. We still do every day. We found it was always the processes and workflows that we put together outside of that tool and then implemented in that tool that helped us grow. Processes and workflows are the things that help you move a project from point A to point B. The tool is there to support and execute that process. We fit our business into the tool (BuilderTrend). We found BuilderTrend to be the best software to manage our roofing business. In fact, in our first year in business, we generated $250k in revenue by using a simple process that we repeated over and over the same way every day.
