Campaign Monitor is a versatile email marketing software that has been widely used across various industries. Users have found the product valuable for a range of use cases. For instance, it serves as a content editor and mail server, seamlessly integrating with social media apps, custom web apps, and more. This allows users to send out well-designed and effective communication pieces both internally and externally. Furthermore, Campaign Monitor is often utilized as a CRM, enabling users to personalize emails based on customer behavior and automate the email marketing process. This has proven particularly useful for reaching out to volunteers, program participants, donors, and board members effectively through newsletter marketing. The software also offers deep integration with popular platforms like Facebook apps, WordPress websites, and custom-built web apps.

One of the key benefits of Campaign Monitor is its ability to create segmented lists and send out mass campaigns. This versatility makes it suitable for organizations of all sizes. For example, a real estate company in Texas utilizes the software across their entire organization to deploy email marketing campaigns for new subscribers and clients. Additionally, Campaign Monitor plays a crucial role in promoting events, products, and services within an organization by the marketing department. It helps address the need for targeted communication with dentists, nurturing them with educational content until they are ready to send a case. Moreover, Campaign Monitor's integration with Salesforce proves to be a huge plus for users as it relates to contact records.

Users appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the software, along with its spam filters and reporting capabilities on list hygiene. With a wide range of email templates available, users find Campaign Monitor's templates highly customizable without requiring code modification. This user-friendly interface extends to the backend of the software as well. While users would appreciate deeper analytics in campaign stats presentation, they find that Campaign Monitor provides them with a range of analytics to make better decisions for their marketing strategies. Overall, Campaign Monitor has become a go-to solution for businesses looking to improve their email marketing efforts, offering easy management of lists and subscribers along with good support and compatibility with various plugins for other platforms.

Easy to use and navigate: Users find Campaign Monitor very easy to use and navigate, with an intuitive user interface that provides everything they need without the need for extensive searching. Many reviewers have stated this as a positive aspect of the platform.

Well-designed templates: The templates provided by Campaign Monitor are well-designed and mobile optimized, allowing users to create professional-looking emails and newsletters easily. Users appreciate the ability to customize the templates or create their own, even without web design experience. This feature has been praised by numerous reviewers.

Clean and easy email builder: The email builder in Campaign Monitor is clean and easy to use, enabling users to effortlessly insert images, links, texts, and make precise adjustments to every aspect of their campaigns. Several users have mentioned how simple it is to create visually appealing emails using this feature.

Limited Collaboration Features: Some users have expressed frustration with the lack of collaboration options in the email generator, as it has caused issues in the past when multiple team members were working on the same email campaign.

Restrictive Split Testing: Users find it limiting that split testing is only available for two variants, which can be restrictive for those who want to test multiple variations.

Inconvenient Social Sharing: Campaign Monitor lacks native social sharing features, requiring users to visit a third-party site to obtain social sharing buttons. Additionally, editing social cards within Campaign Monitor is not possible, resulting in unformatted preview images when shared on social media.

Users commonly recommend the following:

  1. Thoroughly research and compare Campaign Monitor with other platforms before making a decision. Users suggest fully learning how to use Campaign Monitor properly, as it may not be the most user-friendly tool out of the box. They also recommend considering the price of other software options before choosing Campaign Monitor.

  2. Users suggest trying Campaign Monitor if you want to optimize flow and project management, and develop various templates. They recommend Campaign Monitor for companies that handle a large number of customers, as it is easy to learn and offers excellent marketing automation capabilities. However, users also suggest considering competitors like Mailchimp for a less expensive option with less robust nurture emails.

  3. Users recommend Campaign Monitor for its simplicity in email creation, integration with other applications, and affordable pricing. They suggest creating professional-looking email templates and utilizing the dynamic reporting dashboard in Campaign Monitor. Users believe Campaign Monitor is the best option on the market for sending and managing campaigns, offering easy email creation and subscriber list management.

Overall, users highly recommend trying Campaign Monitor due to its powerful features, reasonable costs, and value for money. They suggest thoroughly researching and comparing it with other platforms to ensure it meets all requirements and pricing expectations.

  • With Campaign Monitor, I can create, send, manage and track emails with great ease.
  • It has great templates, complete and responsive functionality that makes it easy to automate.
  • I love its high deliverability and excellent compatibility with mobile devices and computers.
  • It makes it easy to insert images, links, texts; it is effortless to use, and its functions can be customized according to marketing needs.
  • I can't find a way to know when other team members are working on an email campaign in the email generator; I wish they could improve this aspect.

  • Personalization: Being able to add many custom fields to personalize an email sent is great.
  • Viewing results: The reporting dashboards are simple and intuitive.
  • Transactional emails: It was super easy to hook up via Zapier.
  • API and connectors to other platforms.
  • Managing different subscriptions requires some thinking and setup with custom fields/lists/segments. It's not really 'out of the box' to set up.
  • The WYSIWYG editor is pretty locked down, which makes it idiot-proof, but would be great to have a little more control over padding, line height, kerning, etc.

  • Campaign Monitor is great with its templates for emails and newsletters. They're well-designed and mobile optimized.
  • Changing the templates or making your own is very intuitive and easy to do, even if you have no web design experience.
  • The bank of emails and ways to segment them before sending is super helpful for us.
  • I'd like to have a function that tests email addresses and lets you know which ones are no longer working and, if possible, replaces the email you have on file with the one that the subscriber prefers.
  • It would be nice to have more free access to template designers, but they have so many to choose from it's a negligible need.
  • The site kicks you off for inactivity rather quickly, which is a little annoying, but I do keep the window open for a long time as I design newsletters.

  • Email templates are very easy to use and have a professional style.
  • Reporting is very dynamic and easy to pull the data you need.
  • The key field for matching accounts is email which is difficult for companies with multiple business units. One customer may use email across multiple business accounts. It should have a way to better match accounts for a unique record.
  • The premier version at $149 is a bit expensive for what it offers. It should have some price layer between $29 and $149, perhaps with the engagement features for segments.

  • A great drag-and-drop design interface.
  • Email is easily optimized for mobile devices.
  • Great choice of free templates, that all look great.
  • Verifying a domain is a difficult process.
  • No native social media sharing built-in.

  • Quick and Easy Sends - This platform is great for straightforward sends -- we can set up and send our emails within 5 minutes.
  • Live Map Reporting - Campaign Monitor gives real-time reporting of where in the world users are opening and interacting with your emails.
  • Easy to import Design aspects - Campaign Monitor gives the option to import templates in an easy-to-use way.
  • No WYSIWYG editor -- while there are options to edit the templates, they are extremely limited.
  • Limited Source Code / Live Template Change View -- CM doesn't seem to support live changes to the source code like most other platforms do. For example, if I wanted to update the line-height in the source code of an email, I'd have to save the code in CM, then go preview, then make changes again if needed. Most other platforms have the ability to give live code update previews as they're being made.

  • It's super-simple to use. From setting up a template from the gallery, creating a campaign or even setting up automation.
  • Its automation is basic but it's powerful.
  • The pricing scales well allowing our clients to grow.
  • The entry-level plan is not as competitive
  • It's not as widely integrated as MailChimp

  • CM is a great budget platform to use for outbound email.
  • Overall CM is a good company and easy to work with. They have great support but fall short in only a few areas. Would be a good starting out platform to use.
  • Email template editor is awful. Not as bad as say MS Dynamics CRM... But its more difficult than MailChimp. This is mainly my biggest pain point with CM.

  • Campaign Monitor’s support is great. They have a great help page built out to help answer all your questions, and if you do have a question or issue that needs extra support, their support team responds within a couple hours to help resolve the issue.
  • The email builder is very clean and easy to use. It makes A/B testing, personalization, and dynamic content easy to implement.
  • I appreciate the insights reporting that Campaign Monitor provides. We use that regularly for our quarterly reporting to track list growth, as well as campaign performance from a high level.
  • The automation is very straight forward and has truly transformed our marketing. The learning curve is pretty low, so my entire team knows how to use it to create and edit automated email journeys.
  • Campaign Monitor doesn’t have any native social sharing features. You have to go to a third party site in order to get the links for social sharing buttons as a work around. You also can’t edit the social cards in Campaign Monitor, so your emails can appear unformatted in the preview image when sharing on social.
  • There is no way to tell when other team members are working in an email Campaign in the email builder. This has been an issue for us on multiple occasions where two people are working in an email and someone’s work gets accidentally overrided. There is also no manual save feature, instead it auto saves. We’ve had issues with emails not getting saved correctly due to this.
  • Currently there is no way to organize your email campaigns. It would be helpful to have a folder feature so we could sort the different types of campaigns rather than searching through all archived campaigns.
  • I haven’t been impressed with our Customer Successs Managers. None of them have been helpful, and they tend to be pretty hands off. They only talk to us when I reach out to them and remind them that our account exists and we want support.

  • Easily customizable
  • The user interface is easy to navigate, everything you need is available without the need to dig around
  • Reporting is a breeze
  • Loading lists into the system is a bit more cumbersome than it needs to be
  • The Wordpress integration seems a bit invasive on the page. Perhaps it can be "toned down" in the settings, but that was my initial impression.
  • There is quite a bit of difference in the pricing structures

  • Easy interface for email building. It's super intuitive even if you're not accustomed to building with code.
  • The campaign reporting is designed very well, and easy to understand.
  • Getting started is simple and automations are easy to get rolling.
  • The automation features are a bit basic and some power users might find they need a more robust option.
  • Using HTML is harder than it should be.
  • Their Contact Management is cumbersome and list-based, which can create a contact in multiple lists (each counting toward your total).

  • The visual email builder is great for anyone that is not comfortable with code. It gives you great flexibility, the visual builder is easy to use and and learn.
  • Though this is a feature in most all email marketing platforms, but utilizing this to manage our email lists is a great tool and helps save a lot of time.
  • The feature that you can test your email through various platforms before you send is a great feature and offers some great insight.
  • The customer service is great, I have had some issues in the past but have always received quality assistance.
  • It would be great if you could build visual workflows for the marketing campaigns and set up triggers for those workflows. But the journeys they have in place are not bad.
  • I feel like the analytics and insights offer less then some other products, but the great news is I believe Campaign Monitor is upgrading this feature.
  • It would also be great to just be able to build email templates in the system without having to build a campaign.

  • The design interface is easy to use: drag & drop and very intuitive.
  • The campaign metrics are displayed in an easy to digest manner.
  • The automation flows are easy to create - a bit basic but not complicated.
  • Contact management needs some serious work - it is list based so every contact (unique or NOT) is counted towards your allotment. To me this delineates this product from being a CRM - they really should have contact records and different list memberships. This also skews the way people are billed probably so you have to keep an eye out on this.
  • Lists and segmentation need a lot of back work and setting up to use. You have to assign characteristics to contacts when they are uploaded so if you have to plan ahead strategically on how your future lists will look.
  • Although their email designer is very easy to use, sometimes I wish there was a bit more flexibility in customization.

  • Once templates have been created, it is easy to use, especially for those who aren't versed in HTML coding.
  • Analytics are simple and more in-depth than some of its competitors, even offering metrics based on geography, email client type, device type, etc.
  • A/B testing is simple to use and effective, requiring minimal set up.
  • An HTML editing mode would be welcome, as the templates are currently very restrictive. While this is a good thing for people who don't have a coding or web design background, it severely limits the customizability.
  • Whitelisting seems to be an issue for some organizations, although this is likely also a function of the IT departments of those organizations.
  • While creating emails from a pre-made template is easy, if they wanted to totally remove the coding aspect, they could've implemented a WYSIWYG or drag-and-drop editor.
