Campaign Monitor is a versatile email marketing software that has been widely used across various industries. Users have found the product valuable for a range of use cases. For instance, it serves as a content editor and mail server, seamlessly integrating with social media apps, custom web apps, and more. This allows users to send out well-designed and effective communication pieces both internally and externally. Furthermore, Campaign Monitor is often utilized as a CRM, enabling users to personalize emails based on customer behavior and automate the email marketing process. This has proven particularly useful for reaching out to volunteers, program participants, donors, and board members effectively through newsletter marketing. The software also offers deep integration with popular platforms like Facebook apps, WordPress websites, and custom-built web apps.

One of the key benefits of Campaign Monitor is its ability to create segmented lists and send out mass campaigns. This versatility makes it suitable for organizations of all sizes. For example, a real estate company in Texas utilizes the software across their entire organization to deploy email marketing campaigns for new subscribers and clients. Additionally, Campaign Monitor plays a crucial role in promoting events, products, and services within an organization by the marketing department. It helps address the need for targeted communication with dentists, nurturing them with educational content until they are ready to send a case. Moreover, Campaign Monitor's integration with Salesforce proves to be a huge plus for users as it relates to contact records.

Users appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the software, along with its spam filters and reporting capabilities on list hygiene. With a wide range of email templates available, users find Campaign Monitor's templates highly customizable without requiring code modification. This user-friendly interface extends to the backend of the software as well. While users would appreciate deeper analytics in campaign stats presentation, they find that Campaign Monitor provides them with a range of analytics to make better decisions for their marketing strategies. Overall, Campaign Monitor has become a go-to solution for businesses looking to improve their email marketing efforts, offering easy management of lists and subscribers along with good support and compatibility with various plugins for other platforms.

Easy to use and navigate: Users find Campaign Monitor very easy to use and navigate, with an intuitive user interface that provides everything they need without the need for extensive searching. Many reviewers have stated this as a positive aspect of the platform.

Well-designed templates: The templates provided by Campaign Monitor are well-designed and mobile optimized, allowing users to create professional-looking emails and newsletters easily. Users appreciate the ability to customize the templates or create their own, even without web design experience. This feature has been praised by numerous reviewers.

Clean and easy email builder: The email builder in Campaign Monitor is clean and easy to use, enabling users to effortlessly insert images, links, texts, and make precise adjustments to every aspect of their campaigns. Several users have mentioned how simple it is to create visually appealing emails using this feature.

Limited Collaboration Features: Some users have expressed frustration with the lack of collaboration options in the email generator, as it has caused issues in the past when multiple team members were working on the same email campaign.

Restrictive Split Testing: Users find it limiting that split testing is only available for two variants, which can be restrictive for those who want to test multiple variations.

Inconvenient Social Sharing: Campaign Monitor lacks native social sharing features, requiring users to visit a third-party site to obtain social sharing buttons. Additionally, editing social cards within Campaign Monitor is not possible, resulting in unformatted preview images when shared on social media.

Users commonly recommend the following:

  1. Thoroughly research and compare Campaign Monitor with other platforms before making a decision. Users suggest fully learning how to use Campaign Monitor properly, as it may not be the most user-friendly tool out of the box. They also recommend considering the price of other software options before choosing Campaign Monitor.

  2. Users suggest trying Campaign Monitor if you want to optimize flow and project management, and develop various templates. They recommend Campaign Monitor for companies that handle a large number of customers, as it is easy to learn and offers excellent marketing automation capabilities. However, users also suggest considering competitors like Mailchimp for a less expensive option with less robust nurture emails.

  3. Users recommend Campaign Monitor for its simplicity in email creation, integration with other applications, and affordable pricing. They suggest creating professional-looking email templates and utilizing the dynamic reporting dashboard in Campaign Monitor. Users believe Campaign Monitor is the best option on the market for sending and managing campaigns, offering easy email creation and subscriber list management.

Overall, users highly recommend trying Campaign Monitor due to its powerful features, reasonable costs, and value for money. They suggest thoroughly researching and comparing it with other platforms to ensure it meets all requirements and pricing expectations.

We used CM as our mail server. We deeply integrated it with Facebook apps, WordPress websites, custom-built web apps and more. We used it as our content editor, email notifications server, and even used the lists as our CRM at times depending on the customer and the implementation. The perfect API and resell ability are what made it the one for us.

Great for sending out app or store notification emails, subscription/newsletter emails, rss-driven emails. Great for reselling. Simple, takes little training of resell customers, yet still does it all.
  • Email marketing is highly commoditized, so not like a huge ROI, but if email marketing is an essential service in your portfolio, it is the best
  • Time saver for email marketing
  • Time saver for email from apps

MailChimp and ConstantContact try to do too much and do it very poorly. They are slow, clunky, and ugly. They cater to simple users instead of giving pros the tools they need. Convert kit is only good for bloggers or people selling ebooks, but I have used Campaign Monitor for literally any kind of client you can think of from worldwide retail leaders to a local dentist.

We use Campaign Monitor to send out targeted emails to staff, monthly eNewsletters to stakeholders of our hospital and research updates from our research department. The application is used across the entire organization by a select few communication coordinators. It addresses the need for sending out professional, templated emails both internally and externally, while providing analytics and tracking statistics.
  • Once templates have been created, it is easy to use, especially for those who aren't versed in HTML coding.
  • Analytics are simple and more in-depth than some of its competitors, even offering metrics based on geography, email client type, device type, etc.
  • A/B testing is simple to use and effective, requiring minimal set up.
  • An HTML editing mode would be welcome, as the templates are currently very restrictive. While this is a good thing for people who don't have a coding or web design background, it severely limits the customizability.
  • Whitelisting seems to be an issue for some organizations, although this is likely also a function of the IT departments of those organizations.
  • While creating emails from a pre-made template is easy, if they wanted to totally remove the coding aspect, they could've implemented a WYSIWYG or drag-and-drop editor.
Campaign Monitor is suited to cases where the emails that you send are heavily templated, and will not deviate much from that template. We use it primarily for internal communications to staff as opposed to sending an Outlook email, as it provides us with stats on open rate, clickthrough, etc. It is less appropriate for cases where you anticipate a lot of deviation between email communications and would rather have full control over the look and feel of the email.
  • Since we are not a for-profit organization, there is no specific ROI to report
  • From a communication standpoint, it allows us to easily and quickly send out mass emails without going through numerous steps. Many other email communications products force you to go through multiple steps, including testing, before sending an email.
  • Once templates are set up, the ease of use of the product makes it easy for even novices to begin sending emails without any further knowledge of HTML. The strict templates also ensure that there are less chances for user error, which can be an issue when working with HTML tables to format an email.

Once templates are set up, Campaign Monitor seems to be easier to use for novices than either MailChimp or Vertical Response. There is less back-and-forth between steps, and Campaign Monitor seems to want to usher you along all the steps as quickly as possible without the need for reviewing and testing. A/B testing is a breeze, and can automatically send emails after a certain threshold is reached.

This comes at a price, as emails turn out to be more formulaic and less dynamic.
  • Creating content and sending emails
  • A/B testing and dynamic content integration
  • Creating new templates or altering existing ones.
The templates, while useful, are very locked down, This makes it very usable from a novice's standpoint, but also very inflexible from a designer's standpoint.

Creating several version of the email campaign and using A/B testing was a powerful and easy-to-use feature, and the system also provides the option of automating the sending of emails once an A/B testing criteria is reached.
