Ingestion of digital assets into a DAM platform can typically be made individually or in bulk and can occur through a native browser interface. Drag-and-drop features can streamline file ingestion.
- 8.2Downloading assets(24) Ratings
Downloads allow for role-based file conversions into multiple formats. Download settings can be configured to ensure compliance with licenses and copyrights. Assets may also be embedded into design files (like Adobe) for auto-updating other assets when versioning occurs.
- 7.2Categories(23) Ratings
Assets can be organized in drop-down menus to assist in discovery and grouped with related assets for greater utilization. Most DAMs offer AI and machine vision tagging tools to automatically recognize key data in visual elements which automatically sets tags and metadata fields.
- 8.1Asset storage(23) Ratings
Centralized storage capacity and accessibility for centralized storage of marketing and brand assets. These can be anything from documents, audio files, videos, images, creative files (Adobe, etc.), etc. Outdated assets can be archived.
- 7.9Asset sharing(24) Ratings
The ability to share and distribute assets with internal or external partners using sharing links attached to emails and messages, as well as portals. Data and assets can also be syndicated to third parties. Some DAMs enable asset publishing directly to end-user sites for more efficient distribution.
- 7.4Asset search(24) Ratings

Canto excelent DAM!
Pros: high capacity, great display, easy to share with clients. A lot of features!!!
Cons: there is so many tags and features you can use it may become hard to navigate. Portals are good but can be more customizable.
Overall, great software, if you need a data asset management system I strongly recommend this software, however be sure that you use most of the features, otherwise the price point is high!
- Organize assets in an easy way.
- Easy to share files with clients and outside stakeholders.
- Great features, including Tags and filters.
- It would be great if portals could be more customizable.
- It would be great if there were better (cheaper) ways to display brand identities.
- We decided to cancel our contract, downloading assets was time consuming and complicated. Shut down file perhaps? FTP resources?
Training on the software for all users is a must!
Another DAM?
- On Line Tutorials
- How To Videos
- Reference Materials
- Workspaces are a bit clunky
- Sales reps point to tutorials before reaching out
- Procurement process took long
Good for restriction of access by user type
Good for intelligent grouping of assets
Superior tagging and metadata functionality
Canto use for high-resolution photography
- Easy to search
- Good quality image resolution
- Improve search terms
Canto was the solution for us!
- We have a number of brands that sit under the Serenity umbrella so the album and folder structure really helps with our workflow.
- As a designer the Adobe connector was a major reason for us going with Canto, being able to have that connectivity between Canto and Indesign has saved us so much time.
- Canto is easy to use and very intuitive.
- With our previous Asset Management system it would create a unique sequential number for each new file that was uploaded this is something that we have not been able to do with Canto. This would have been beneficial to us as it would have helped with our workflow.
- Would have helped if it was easier/faster to migrate large datasets
Canto is awesome!
- Stores a high volume of high-res photos
- Makes organization easy
- Makes it simple to send and share photos with other departments
- Ability to add information and notes to photo files
Great product at a great price!
- It is clearly structured and all functions are easy to spot and use.
- Good ability to search through metadata and quickly and easily find an asset
- The platform can be a little faster when creating folders/albums
Very logic and time effiencient
- Logic searching
- Categorizing pictures and documents very well
- Easy to use
- Some time you have to update F5 to much
A safe choice for a DAM platform
- User friendly
- Lots of useful integrations with other platforms
- Tailored pricing scheme for our specific needs
- Some additional integrations, for example, with online design tools would be useful.
- Internal backup system that keeps 7 days of configurations and files
- Provides multiple webpages for searching, viewing, downloading, and sharing.
- Robust user roles, and user access levels
- Cumulus can be extremely granule or just managed with mostly basic out of the box features
- Easier reporting
- It should prevent drag and drop in the tree that would orphan linked files
- More ways to search
It is not a general file share program, it is far too robust to limit it to just file sharing.
Neat solution to unwieldy digital libraries
- Allows seamless integration with our Wordpress based website
- Is easy to customise areas of it even for people not too tech savvy
- Allows us to automatically watermark our images so people have to request them - leading to potential follow-ups
- Filters that will lead to no image results will still be shown, potentially adding confusion
- Non-watermarked images can technically be accquired through page inspection
Canto is a great solution!
- The Canto team was very supportive during the onboarding process.
- Endless possibilities with tagging images.
- Ability to use directly in Adobe products with plug-in.
- No uncheck all feature.
- Issues with uploading large batch of files.
Canto Insights from a Not-for-Profit
- Manual tagging of images.
- Smart tags.
- Easy uploading and storing of images.
- Portal system is very hard to understand.
- Playback of video files within canto does not always work that well.
Optimize use of your assets!
- Organization
- Design Capabilities
- Portals
- Slow upload speeds on videos
Searching for content made easy!
- Canto provides thorough training for the integration phases of the platform.
- Canto offers a wide range of customizable fields for the content, including folder display photos and different personalized borders and colour features.
- Canto allows the photos to have easily searchable options by having functions like tags and keywords.
- Canto's integration phase could be a little more concise since some of the steps are pretty straight-forward.
- There are some issues with integrating the SSO option for Canto.
Picture perfect organization tool
- I really like the organization features that allow us to search and quickly find what we need.
- The facial recognition feature is a great help. We keep folders for individuals that are often featured in promotional materials.
- We use the brand style guide to help organize our visual brand assets and share them with campus collaborators. It is very helpful for storing and protecting the complex collection of assets that are common for higher education institutions.
- We have experienced some laggy response times within the app on occasion. The Canto team is very responsive to concerns though.
Easy to use file management tool
- The ability to search for files.
- Tagging files and creating file structures.
- Sharing with different people from the organization and using permissions.
- Inability to work off of Canto with Adobe files.
- Mobile integration and mobile app.
- Auto generating tags for files based on file name or content.
- Easy to use
- Amazing search abilities
- Easy to share with outside users
- Quick load time
- Setup can be cumbersome
- Settings are sometimes hard to find
- Can't preview PDFs
Canto is a great Digital Asset Management solution for organizations looking to control large libraries
- Easy to use for multiple roles
- Intuitive admin for file management
- Powerful search functionality
- Onboarding could be more robust
- User level interface is spartan
Useful for Sharing Assets Externally
- Easy to browse & download images
- Visual database with thumbnail preview
- Portals to share select assets externally
- Initial set up took longer than expected, not as intuitive as we hoped
- Too many options
- Folder / album structure feels a little complicated. Could be an easier UX
- Seamless access to content from anywhere at anytime.
- An incredible team of intelligent invested employees to get you up and running in no time.
- Beautiful interface.
- Incredibly fast load times.
- So many features included at the base price.
- More built-in integrations with Salesforce, MKT cloud (social studio), and Outlook.
DAM Canto!
- Structure and ease of use.
- Open communication with account manager.
- Some redundant features
Canto all the way!
- Canto is a very thorough program, the way you can tag and categorize your assets is very well put together.
- Facial recognition is by far the greatest idea and Canto does this well. It is a super helpful feature for us.
- We love the portal aspect of this platform. It is an extremely helpful tool.
- The option to make a single file downloadable or not. We have some highly sensitive files and some we don't want people to be able to download but be able to look at. So it would be nice if we could make a single file not downloadable. They do have other options like terms of use or watermarks but it [would] be nice if that was a feature. You could do this but only in bulk, so you'd have to make all files not downloadable.
- Their style guide option - being able to use a single image for the style guide instead of the whole folder or file.
- I think the different language option could be built out a little better.
