We use Canto to store a variety of digital files, and use it as a quick-link library. We have created numerous "portals" through Canto, and have been able to provide different permissions to each portal, depending on our needs. In particular, we have created a public "service" portal for our customers, where product users are able to find manuals, tutorials, parts catalogues and more, all without needing to contact a member of our service team. This self-service tool has been incredibly successful for our business, and we have heard only positive feedback from our customers.
  • Ability to manage several portals and allow different users access to each.
  • Ability to customize each Canto platform or portal to suit all needs.
  • The platform is very easy to use, and while there are more complex components to the platform, users are able to use only the basics and remain very successful.
  • Would like to see an Android app in the future.
  • There are a lot of add-ons available, but most come at an extra cost. At the price we pay for the platform, I'd like to see more of these features included.
  • The ability to customize folder or album URLs would be helpful.
For our business, canto has been incredibly helpful. There are multiple facets to our business, and the ability to create customized portals for each use case has been great. I would absolutely recommend Canto to any company that needs to provide multiple files to different shareholders, including sales managers, dealers, customers, service managers and more.

We use Canto to book clients at our wedding venues, as well as show booked clients what their wedding can look like based off photos from past weddings. We also use it for finding pictures for social media. Instead of searching endlessly through random folders, we're able to type in a keyword and find the picture we need. It's a huge time saver!
  • Keywords
  • Ability to Customize Features
  • Portals and Share Links
  • Sometimes, if uploading multiple albums in a day, the metadata from the photos I uploaded previously will show up
  • Ability to edit the pictures within a share link
Canto is perfect for Marketing departments! It makes it easier to collaborate and find photos for social media, ad campaigns, website, etc. No more of asking "do you remember where this file is?" because if it's keyworded correctly, it will pop right up!

We manage all our photos and graphic design elements and some video clips. This allows us to easily create links to share specific items with internal and external people.
  • Creating links to share media items
  • Creating a portal for others to view specific media items on their own time
  • auto tagging images
  • video file management is a little more cumbersome than still images
  • upload / processing of items seems slower than it should be
Canto works well for organizing assets and sharing those assets with others. It could improve in the speed of uploads and processing of video files.

Canto has become a crucial product for us to manage our photo and video assets. I can find what I need with the robust search tool in a few seconds versus viewing individual files in an online folder. It's saved me so much time. It's also extremely easy to share assets with others and provide them a link to upload theirs as well, if they are not users. The editing capabilities are the icing on the cake. I'd highly recommend Canto to anyone struggling with asset management.
  • Search capabilities
  • The app is an extra added bonus when uploading pics from mobile devices
  • Never any lag time when using Canto
  • Integration with Canva
  • On occasion I have files fail to upload through the app.
Sharing assets with anyone in our organization, whether they are a Canto user or not, is extremely easy. I use my mobile device for taking photos and videos so the app is crucial in my role. It removes the extra step of sending the assets through email and then save it to the appropriate folder. Although, on occasion, I do have file uploads fail. A quick phone reset usually takes care of that. I also love the integration with Canva as that is our design tool of choice. Having easy access to our assets saves an incredible amount of time.

We use Canto across the organization to collect, organize, and disseminate user-added pictures that can be used for our professional content. This ensures that our presentations have unique images that match our brand and memorably position ourselves with clients.
  • Allow users to upload their own images.
  • Searchable image catalog
  • Browsable image tiles
  • Search function is inaccurate
  • Dependency on user-uploaded images often means that I don't have access to the image I need
I recommend my colleagues use Canto to help find pictures to supplement our client-facing presentations and also upload interesting visual perspectives we may see during the course of our work. When we need images to support parts of our work that are new to the company or for which specialized images are not available in Canto, we need to look elsewhere.

We use Canto to store and organize all of our image assets. Images in our library are tagged and categorized, and facial recognition is used to identify people in the images. This type of image organization will make it easier for our users to view, share, and search for photos and assets within our collections.
  • Facial recognition.
  • Public portals for sharing.
  • Supports single sign-on.
  • Image management.
  • More intuitive user experience.
  • Had upload errors when using the Canto connect.
  • More customization.
Canto is well suited for asset management if you have a large number of images to organize, although it does take quite a bit of time to add information and make the assets information-rich. We have a fairly small team using it, but it seems like a large team would be able to use it just as easily. Having everything in one place and the ability to share collections through the portals will work well, I see us using that feature often.

We use it to upload and share event photos with attendees and speakers. We also use the platform to tag attendees and speakers and then use those photos for editorial purposes.
  • Photo tagging
  • Public portals
  • Photo library management
  • In my opinion, it is the worst UX I've ever seen, it's a very outdated UI.
  • Lots of functions could be improved. It wants to offer a lot but, in my experience, fails with almost everything.
  • I feel like there is a lack of product direction and focus.
It's a very small market, there aren't enough good solutions out there and Canto is still probably the best option among the worst.

We previously used a VPN and internal server to store our digital assets. They were organized by folder and pretty much unsearchable. We had many versions of the same image in different resolutions. Sharing was difficult and we had to use other third party apps like wetransfer to send images. Canto replaces all of this with cloud-based access. We only need 1 version of an image (the original high res) and we can search quickly with the meta data. We can watermark images for outside use automatically. Canto has solved many problems.
  • Allowing users to download a resized version of an image self serve (eg. for social media)
  • Sharing collections where recipients can see and download high res images
  • Tagging to make searches very simple and eliminate complete folder structures
  • Tag all info about an asset in the data rather than trying to name images with this data
  • Seeing a path for collection images
  • sometimes in an upload link the only way to return to the main library is manual adjustment of the URL
  • More permission levels available.. not just Consumer or admin
I've already recommended and I will continue. I found it very easy to figure out. We're not using it for video much as I am concerned about how fast we'll fill up our storage limit.

We have different brands with their own asset management systems and approaches across the world. Canto was brought in to address this discrepency and make sure everyone had access to the same materials in a consistent channel, and with a consistent experience. It is used by marketing, sales, account management, training, customer service and research teams.
  • Consistent user experience
  • Allows for comprehensive tagging on uploads
  • Great customer service to help with a range of questions
  • You get out a lot of what you put in, so it's labour intensive to see value
  • It has some limitations using workspaces or portals for sharing information that aren't assets
  • The licencing plans could be a bit more flexible
It's a competent asset management system, it doesn't do anything flashy and isn't offering a lot of smart solutions to any asset management problems. It would be nice if it could take some of the burden of uploading and tagging content off the user - and for set up it's a long road before you're in a place that is satisfactory.

We use Canto as a photo and permissions database. It addresses the lack of a centralized database.
  • Search function
  • Permissions function
  • sizing
  • The UX could be a bit better, it's a bit clunky
  • Ability to add written or multimedia storytelling
Canto is great for an asset search database to track permissions and resize. I wish it would be a bit more useful as a multimedia storytelling and tracking repository, with the ability to easily reach out to content owners.

We use Canto mainly as storage for our files, to share images with donors, and other departments or external partners, and to create portals for nonprofits to access materials during community events.
  • Tags
  • Portals
  • Support response time
  • Share links creation/customization/search
  • Face detection isn't that easy to use
  • Would be nice if there was an option to automatically upload files every night/sync files
Canto is good for sharing files and creating boundaries around the share links. It is good for storing files and the search function works well within the Library. The share links could use some work, and this is where our team spends a lot of our time within Canto. It would be nice is Share Links were customizable links, and if it were easier to search for past share links, via a search bar within the Collection Links section.

This is the first time we have used a DAM at Mercy College and we need one to organize our decades old archive of photos and videos so that they can be shared across departments. Prior to this, we had been storing everything internally and relying on email sends to share photos. The easy access Canto offers us allows us to collaborate across departments easily. I also appreciate the native editing tools and integrations that make social media posts very quick.
  • Asset classifications
  • Native content editing
  • Shareability
  • Ease of use after configuration
  • It's been hard without a dedicated person to manage it to configure properly
  • It's eminently configurable, but the paradox of choices counterintuitively makes it hard to use
  • In platform photo editing is limited
This is our first attempt at having a DAM, so having a central place for the entire organization to look for pictures is important. The sort functionality is good, but has to be configured so all personnel entering assets use the same tags. Failing that configuration, it's just as messy as using another solution. I like being able to use assets directly on social media platforms, and to see what the most recent version of an asset is quickly, but again that needs to be configured internally to work right. Canto is as powerful as you want it to be.

My organization uses CANTO to collect, structure, store, and distribute content (pictures, videos, stories, publications) and, to a lesser extent coordinate and plan content use for external and internal communication. The system is optimized for quick and easy access from nearly every country we work from (mainly Africa and Europe), and it can be worked with from computers as well as tablets and mobile phones. The interface (filters, albums, presets, ...) is highly customizable, which is great, but it also means a clear idea of the structure you want to set up before starting to work is a good idea. Users can communicate on the platform itself with comments and save their own searches and collections. The main functions the majority of our users currently use are making "best of" collections and sending links to (often large) files to internal and external contacts. CANTO also has a style guide function, which is also very handy to share e.g., with external designers. The CANTO customer support is very responsive. Even if some issues cannot be resolved right away, you always get an answer (from a real person, not a bot). I also like the tutorials library on their website. Among the few things, I would improve are the ways in which user groups can collaborate.
  • Accessibility from basically everywhere and across platforms.
  • Search and filter function.
  • Responsive and helpful customer support.
  • Curate content function can be "misused" to plan and coordinate across teams.
  • Excellent reporting features and dashboard on what goes on in your CANTO.
  • Good version control, easy to update outdated or changed files, and revert back to older versions if needed.
  • Workspace functionalities are not always clear.
  • User groups collaboration and user rights could be more varied.
  • The way in which some files are sorted could be solved differently.
CANTO is well suited if you, like us, have a large team with members across several countries, a large pool of assets, and your colleagues need to find specific content fast. It is also well suited if you work a lot with external contacts and as an archive for past materials, campaigns, and reports... that need to stay accessible for internal use. You need to dedicate a full-time position to managing and maintaining the database for an organization of the medium size and to train your employees on how to use it (believe me). CANTO is not well suited - in my opinion - for smaller teams or if you use your content only once or twice and then move on to entirely new campaigns. I would also not use it for dynamic content (like word documents that are still commented on and being rewritten).

We use it as a DAM for our photos. This tool is intended to enable our school staff to access and download photos for marketing materials and promotions. My team manages the library as we oversee the majority of our captures.
  • Facial recognition (now that we resolved the bug in the system)
  • UI customization. Would be nice to better integrate the brand of the company using the software as well as more control over some of the out of the box features that are not used.
  • A more intuitive user experience. Once I train people they are able to navigate the platform reasonably well. But otherwise people have a hard time finding what they need unlike an experience on a site like Getty Images.
  • Better and more timely support. We had major issues with the facial recognition software after the migration. It took over a year of us asking for help and an escalation of the issue to get it resolved. We are a large customer and it was very frustrating to have our main issue ignored and slow walked to resolution.
  • When uploading images and going back to bulk tag photos, users do not always remember to select "Overwrite" which means content duplicates. We spend a lot of time cleaning this for people. Unless you use the tool weekly, it's not an easy piece to remember to select.
  • Would be fantastic to have some sort of algorithm that recognizes objects and other elements in photos to automatically add metatags to the custom field section for use in the open search field. We try to go through and tag but would be fantastic to have that happen automatically. Items like trees, leaves, car etc.
For us this is suited for our global community to be able to find images for marketing materials without having to engage the creative team for assistance. We would love to use this for video as well but the storage is prohibitive.

Canto has provided us with an efficient means of storing, sharing, and finding relevant digital media across the company. It's really simplified the process of collecting and distributing our best photography to the teams that need it. Canto has also been very supportive of any issues we've had, and quick to respond when needed.
  • Sharing media internally and externally
  • Easy to search
  • Integration with MS Office and Adobe
  • Would like more control of who can download media with different DRM properties
  • Would like to use watermarks on some files, for only some users
Canto provides an easy to manage a large library of images that need to be used by people throughout the company. It's been a great way for us to share our best photography with proposal writers across the country. It's also made the process of collecting images much easier, and I can send out a single link to multiple users, who can all upload photos and collectively edit the metadata until they're ready to be added to our main library.

We use Canto to store our creative artwork files. Historically we used regular file folders on our shared drive and it wasn't easy to find them. When people left our team, is was REALLY hard to find their creative historical files. Canto is going to solve those problems for us going forward!
  • Save creative files in an organized fashion.
  • Make creative files easy to find with its taggable/searchable capability.
  • Provides for continuity of finding creative historical files even when employee members leave.
  • The tagging methodology seems VERY hard to grasp at first.
  • Our team is not yet sure if we should save flattened design files or "layered" design files into Canto.
  • We struggle on our team to know if we should save each draft of a file or wait until we get to a finished draft, then final draft round 1, final draft round 2, etc.
Very well suited in scenarios where a company has a lot of creative files and photographs. Also great for a company that revisits/updates its creative files frequently or periodically.

Online database to store high resolution images for use in marketing materials and social media. Canto addressed the need for very dense files to be stored all in one place. Ease of access to multiple users across campus. As a creative professional I use Canto to download images onto my desktop to be inserted into Graphic design layouts.

We use CANTO as a way of organizing our images, video & audio files. These types of files were once held on drives with no structure or way of knowing what we even had.

We had over 100 000 images stored on our drives and throughout our records management system, much of which were duplicates. Canto enabled us to get rid of duplicates in an easy, efficient way. The first level of implementation for Canto was as a replacement for a previous photo management system. As we continue our deployment of Canto, we are transitioning into using it as our primary photo platform to support the work of designers and content managers, as well as to push photos and other creative assets out to public audiences.
  • Photo collection management with full metadata.
  • Repository of photos made available for outside users.
  • Some UI/UX improvements.
  • The portals feature is a nice start, but the design tools are limited. I wish it would function more like a CMS.
  • Intermediate user types. Currently, it's regular users (free) and power users ($1,000/per person/year). A user level with a lower cost and fewer administrative functions would be welcomed.
  • Adobe Connector should be made available for users who are not assigned as power users.
Very well suited for being the primary repository of photographic assets. More limited but still useful for publicly facing photo galleries.

We use Canto in mainly in a department for solving the problem of digital asset retrieval inefficiency. Its secondary usage is to act as a hub for the entire organization to use to retrieve curated assets.
  • Enable digital assets to be distributed with control
  • Highly customizable metadata fields to suit different needs
  • Efficiently publish portals or webpages of curated selections
  • Too few useful analytics
  • Deduplication process is difficult to use
  • Video functions too slow
Canto is one of the most user-friendly and feature-rich DAM software that I've used. If you are just starting out to collect assets, its many functions on customizable organizational fields would and collaboration tools are superb for marketing uses, especially for images (for videos, its functions are on the slower side). If you already have a library of assets that need organizing, it would take quite some time to upload all at once, and require a lot of effort in organizing. Although, that might be similar to moving on to any DAM software. The analytics are a bit lacking and there are some pesky bugs here and there, but overall, it seems better than a lot of other DAM system providers.
