We are using Carbonite Safe to back up files on all of our computers including pictures, videos, and documents. Once we set the system up, it is easy to check on each computer to see what is backed up by looking at the colored dots next to each file. This indicates currently backed up or backing up on the next save.
  • It is so easy to see what files are backed up according to the color dots next to the files. Green indicates backed up and brown indicates that it will be backed up on the next round.
  • We get email updates from Carbonite to help us stay current on our usage.
  • I am confident that our files are backed up and can be easily be recovered. I have been through the process and was able to regain just the files I needed.
  • I don't see any areas that need improvement. It can be a set it and forget it or you can easily monitor what is backed up if you want to stay on top of it.
We have used Carbonite to transfer a large number of files to a new computer by downloading the backup. This was easy and worked so well that we use that each time we have to add a new computer to our system. You don't have to jump through a lot of hoops to get your backup and they offer a large amount of space. We haven't had to go for an upgrade.
  • We know our data is backed up and secure. It eliminates worry.
  • Questions get answered. The knowledge base has been helpful.
We originally used a backup product from Microsoft. It was so glitchy and difficult to set up. We spent a lot of time on the phone with their tech team trying to get it to work. They would come up with different reasons and fixes but in the end, it couldn't do the job so we gave up. We switched to Mozy now Carbonite and the set up took minutes and no phone call for help.
I usually find what I need to know by looking in the Carbonite knowledge base online. We haven't had any major problems, usually we just need clarification on a point or more details about a feature so we look it up. We haven't had to call in for help in quite awhile.

This is a background application that is in use on one or more servers. It is a cloud backup software where you select a number of folders to automatically backup to the Mozy/Carbonite cloud. It has historically worked by selecting the amount of storage one needs and backup up the needed files. It is in use by an entire organization but it does so behind the scenes. The problem it solves is data integrity, restoration, and retention.
  • Simple and reliable, set the software up and let it run.
  • Clear and intuitive to install and configure.
  • Easy to read/monitor email reporting for backup sets.
  • The complicated licensing system, purchasing can become difficult to comprehend until set-up.
  • From an MSP support standpoint, emails can be cumbersome based on a number of jobs.
Very efficient for small to medium-sized businesses. Once a large amount of data exists, though, it becomes more efficient to have a "per server" model. This is a great solution for startups or "quick" backups of data sets. I would recommend this for any organization up until approximately 40 users, then it makes sense to review the other Carbonite Complete options.
  • Affordable and reliable backup software.
  • It does not take an IT professional to install and configure.
  • May outgrow as business expansion continues.
Carbonite Safe is a great solution for startup entities. It ranks nicely with Acronis and Carbonite Server Backup. Carbonite Safe is very good for backing up workstations including home computers. This is a good solution for home office users. Acronis does image level backups better than Mozy / Carbonite Safe whereas Barracuda Backup is a much more expensive (but worthwhile) investment. Barracuda Backup includes a physical BDR appliance.
I have not had to utilize Carbonite Safe support too often, but they have always been very good. There are very few technical issues so their support does not come in handy, unless one needs assistance with installation or setup. In cases when it is needed, my support tickets with Carbonite Safe have always gone well.
