What is CCH® SureTax®?

CCH SureTax is designed by tax experts to help businesses comply with the most complex sale and use tax requirements. This cloud-based sales tax automation platform aims to ensure customers accurately calculate, collect, and remit taxes to the correct authorities every time.

Boasting 100+ years of tax research experience, CCH SureTax assures customers stay on top of constant tax legislation changes. The sales and use tax rates and rules get automatically updated, reflecting 100,000+ annual changes for 24,000+ authorities in the US and Canada.

CCH SureTax automates the compliance process. With a single login, customers can access their Calculations, Returns, Reporting, and Exemption Certificate Management (ECM) modules. The data flows directly from one module to another, to increase accuracy and eliminate human error associated with manual data manipulation. All changes and transactions can be recreated in the event of an audit and provide customers with a strong audit defense.

Additionally, its Power BI reporting functionality allows businesses to analyze sales and use taxes on a more granular level than what might be typical of an ERP, to ensure returns' accuracy and get more insights from sales data.

The company also offers Professional Services, such as Nexus Study, Managed and Outsourced Services, allowing customers to partially or fully outsource sales and use tax compliance.

SureTax has been the perfect solution; not only are they readily available to fix any and all of your questions, but they are also extremely attentive regarding the information requested. They are the best when it comes to entrepreneurs who are entering into a space that they are not fully aware of from a state and local tax compliance perspective. They can be better from the perspective of developing their client interface.

If a company is currently doing all the processing, filing, and payments of company sales tax in-house, CCH can help there, but if a system is already in place, CCH does not add any value.

I would recommend CCH SureTax as a sales tax management system however I would also be open to exploring other options and finding more streamlined and efficient ways to manage sales tax issues.

I would put CCH® SureTax® at the top of the scale for any Telecom business or anyone with a known tax scenario that will be similarly sketchy. This software, while not always user friendly, can do amazing things to help you navigate the tax issues facing us all today. This would not be appropriate for a company just needing help gathering their sales tax information. There are plenty of other, friendlier solutions, possibly what they are already using for their accounting that will do it cleaner, easier and cheaper. You just have to ask an expert in that software.

CCH SureTax seems very highly accurate and stays up to date with the latest tax rules and regulations. This minimizes the risk of miscalculations and makes billing and sales and use tax submissions a whole lot easier.

Sales Tax rates for most zip codes that we lookup appear to be in the CCH® SureTax® system. I think they have been doing a better job and getting missing tax rates into the system. They still need to work on correcting the user interface so that users can reset their passwords without intervention from the Admin or support.

The biggest reason why I would recommend CCH® SureTax® is the stellar support. I am able to submit support tickets for complicated use of CCH® SureTax®, detailing different business cases or technical issues, and I receive a response to properly resolve the issue very quickly (usually within 1 day). The support agents are able to respond to difficult support issues and provide helpful suggestions for resolutions.

Starting from zero with Suretax would be ideal. I found it cumbersome and time-consuming if you need to import existing data. We opted not to import existing certificates after seeing the process for data. The pre-defined reports are beneficial, but we cannot define custom reports, which is limiting.

I feel that the system needs to be made more robust and similar to the products that are used by larger corporations. Customized reporting and the ability to see tax rules set up, as well as tax rates for all jurisdictions, would be a plus. I would like to see the system becoming more user-friendly.

I have recommended SureTax a few times already. Sales tax rates have never been wrong since 2013. Remote Seller amounts are automatically maintained in SureTax, so it will notify us when we are approaching a state's threshold. The website is very clean and user-friendly. A huge step up from their former product that we had called Sales Tax Office (STO). Their reports are very easy to read and understand.

If we could go back in time, we would have selected a different option and not gone with CCH® SureTax®. The entire tax department and our IT team are thoroughly unimpressed. Cost and time are the only things stopping us at the moment.

In my experience, when there are issues our account rep isn't very responsive. In my opinion, the set up process was a huge pain and not everything was done properly and we had to handle some of it on our own. In my opinion, there is no responsibility when the team makes an issue and them resolving, we have to do everything. They turned on a state we had turned off and tax was being collected. I asked why, got no response other than I needed to handle it on my side and get with the state and try and figure out how to file the taxes on my own.

We receive notification by email when the business tax reports are filled by CCH and it works fine. But when you go into the website, that's where we find it a bit confusing because of the lack of training. I hope they make the CCH website more user-friendly or provide some training to look up the filled reports or should be able to see when the reports are due for each state.

Calculating and reporting sales tax. Supporting Clients in sales tax audits with up to date research on State's interpretation of sales tax laws in immerging areas of tax laws with regard to the new age of electronic services. For example, we just finished an PA audit where they interpret the law to include ACH fees as taxable.

I think CCH needs to be much more user friendly and the Support division has room for much improvement. Support needs to be much more accessible; can't hide behind the support portal and never talk to your customers by telephone. Sometimes or a lot of times, an actual conversation is much more productive at solving a problem than through messages on a portal.
