Astera Centerprise is a versatile and affordable data integration tool that has proven to be highly valuable in various use cases. Users have found that the software is commonly used to generate files from a data warehouse in proprietary formats and send them to vendors. It is also utilized for automated report generation, inventory alerts, and scheduled email tasks. Additionally, Astera Centerprise is often employed for ETL processes, allowing for seamless movement and transformation of data between different sources based on specific business rules.

One of the key use cases of Astera Centerprise is syncing a legacy database to a more web-friendly database, which requires the creation of a custom database driver. Users have successfully leveraged the software for this purpose. Another significant use case is integrating Salesforce with various ERP systems, providing an intuitive user interface for exchanging data between these platforms. Furthermore, Astera Centerprise has been instrumental in providing visibility into issues with moving data from legacy systems to the application's database, reducing both time and technical skills required.

The software simplifies the process of building integrations and small tasks through its drag-and-drop GUI and wide range of data connections and functions. For instance, it is widely used for importing data into Microsoft Dynamics AX, Salesforce, and other in-house built applications, making it easier to map and integrate the data. Moreover, Astera Centerprise streamlines data integration processes by enabling analysts to connect to various data sources and perform complex transformations seamlessly.

The software finds application in diverse domains such as finance, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing. For example, it serves as a key component for consolidating financial data from different sources into a single view for corporate finance groups. It also plays a critical role in integrating electronic health record systems with other systems in the healthcare sector. Across organizations, Astera Centerprise is widely used for importing and exporting data from application databases efficiently, saving significant time. Additionally, the software is valued for its ability to manipulate and map data based on client requirements, enabling users to synchronize data between ecommerce solutions and ERP systems effectively.

Intuitive Interface: Multiple users have praised the intuitive interface of Centerprise, stating that it is easy to understand and navigate. They have mentioned that after becoming familiar with the interface, they were able to quickly start using the tool.

Self-Documenting Graphical Approach: Many reviewers appreciate Centerprise's self-documenting graphical approach for building data flows. This feature allows new team members to easily understand existing work, saving time and promoting collaboration.

Data Preview Capability: The ability to preview data on each object within Centerprise has been highly valued by users. Being able to immediately see transformation results at any point in a data flow has not only saved them time but also facilitated data reconciliation processes.

Confusing User Interface: Several users have found the user interface of the software to be confusing and difficult to follow, making tasks more challenging. They have expressed frustration with navigating through the different features and options, resulting in a steep learning curve.

Issues with Software Updates: Users have encountered various issues during software updates, including bugs and changes to existing functionality. Some reviewers mentioned that these updates were not seamless and caused disruptions in their workflows. They had to spend time troubleshooting and adapting to the changes, which was inconvenient for them.

It is used by the software development department. We are using this for the ETL process to move and transform the data from one data source to another based on the business rules. We also use this to read the data from the source, transform the data and then feed our application.
  • It is easy to use. Does not required too much technical background to learn.
  • It can quickly transfer the data across different data sources as it supports the multi-thread processes.
  • It supports many different data sources.
  • It supports Azure connection
  • Better support for SQLite, as it is only partially support it.
  • Supporting the spatial functions. For example, connection SDE or geo databases.
  • More user-friendly error message reporting.
  • Move the ServerAdminConfig.Xml into cluster database as the file access always caused the issue
If you are working with the large data and try to do validation/transformation, this is good to have. Also, if you do not have a programming or database background, I think you will find this is very easy to use. I think you can use this to do any data validation and massage with it.
  • The ability to exchange and valid the data between different data sources

  • It is quickly adapted by many of my co-workers and easy to learn. That saved a lot of training time.
  • As I am dealing with a big data set, it helps us to move and verify the data quickly.
  • It took me some time to get used to the error message, as it is a bit too technical. This has also caused some issues as other users may need more support on it.
  • The cdc file caused the issue a lot. We have to remove that from our design.
  • Astera provides a fast response for support.
We first tried Informatica and think it is suitable for our company. However, the per license price is way too expensive, as we need to support multiple users at the same time. When compared to Astera, we found Astera can do most of the stuff that Informatica does. That's why we picked Astera.

They are doing the software development and ETL processing
4
They have the strong SQL and Oracle knowledge. They know our data model inside out.
  • Transfer data from one data source to another
  • Validate the data and provide the report to the user
  • Trying to use it to connect to Azure
  • We used Astera as the backend of some of our webservices
  • We are trying to use Astera to move data between Azure and local databases
I like the ability for fast transfer the data between data source. Also, I like the way we can put the business rules in for validation. Finally I love the support from Astera.
Yes
We replaced one of our internal made software because of that software was made as single thread application. Astera made our application runs much faster. We also used Astera to replace one of our old application.
  • Cloud Solutions
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
I think the product feature is the most important factor for our decision. We love how Astera is easy to use and fast to transfer data.
If I can do it again, other than how easy to use and how fast to transfer the data. I think I will also evaluation how easy to debug the issues when they occur.
Yes, I was part of the team for implement Astera into our software.
  • Implemented in-house
Yes
There are two major implementation. 1. We are using that as the backend for the webservice. There was validation and data loading phases for it. 2. Complete ETL process. We did the extract and transform together as one phase and load for the second.
Change management was minimal
  • When there is issue occur, it is very hard to debug as the error message did not give me enough information
  • When using the webservice component, it always gives me the generic error message.
  • No Training
This is very easy to learn. But I will suggest Astera to provide some training for others as I need to provide the training to my co-workers for Astera right now.
I think for the dataflow and workflow the configurability is wonderful.
Don't try to use the multi-thread loading for the foreign keys enabled tables
Yes - we have customized the interface extensively
We need to allow our clients to customize all there configuration based on our data model. Our development team created the application for it. They are only calling Astera api to do the job.
No - the product does not support adding custom code
no
I like their support a lot. They are quick. Normally, I get a response back within one or two hours, which other companies cannot do. Also, I can see they are trying hard to help us to resolve the issues. They even spend the time to create the example projects for us to help us understand and fix the issue.
I believe our company purchase that. I think we need that because we always need to have the fastest response to resolve our client issues.
Yes
Yes, they were resolved quick and I am satisfying for them.
There was our client security issue. I submitted the support ticket and request the same day meeting with our client. I got the response within an hour and have the meeting with our client to resolve the issue. This was quick turnaround and very helpful.
I think Astera is great in general except the issue for cdc files and it is a bit hard to debug when error occur.
  • Data transfer
  • Data validation
  • I think xml data transfer is a bit difficult
I think Astera can do multiple things. However, we are not sure what it can do. We only know the basic features. If they can give us some kind of training, then we maybe able to benefit for it. We are planning to use their Azure connection in the future. If they can provide the training for it, it will be wonderful.
In most cases Astera is stable. However, our client experiences the error from time to time. Mostly they are related to cdc file and ServerAdminConfig.xml file.
I think the performance for Astera is great when compare with other similar software.
It seems our development team can use the api in our application easily.
  • SQL server
  • Oracle
  • Excel
  • Xml
  • Webservice
SQL, Oracle and Excel are very easy to use and we are using them in most of our products. We are using the webservice call feature for one of our application. It is easy to use as well. However, I found it is difficult to debug when there is any issue. XML is the most difficult one to use. We start to use that at the beginning and need to swap that out to use sql command instead.
  • We are planning to use the Azure connector
Yes, we found couple of vendors provide this.
  • File import/export
  • Single Signon
  • API (e.g. SOAP or REST)
  • ETL tools
no
Learn what Astera can do first as I am still trying to explore what I can do with it.
I think the sales person is very friendly and helpful.
She is wonderful. Whenever we have question, she is willing to help.
I am not sure about this
No not at this moment
Yes
When we upgrade from Astera 7 to Astera 8, it took a long time as there are a lot of changes in both dataflow and workflow. We are planning to upgrade to Astera 10 in few months, I hope it is easier this time.

Astera Centerprise is being used by the IT Application Department in Aspen Medical Products. It is being used to integrate the Magento eCommerce platform to host the company's website with ERP Application (IQMS). I've been using the Astera Centerprise for the last 5 years to create Integration Dataflows, Workflows, Scheduled jobs to integrate the Magento and IQMS APIs. These jobs run round the clock from 4 am till midnight 7 days a week to keep the data flowing between the applications. The data includes customers orders, customer's account setups, address information updates, Credit limit updates, Customer's product pricing updates, etc...
  • API integrations vis REST Web Service transformation
  • Stored Procedure integration via SQL statement Lookup transformation
  • Bulk imports and exports to and from tables
  • Data dumps from SQL tables to excel, csv, text files etc...
  • EDI Integrations like 810, 856, 940, 945 etc.. via Astera Centerprise Data Integrator plus EDI Connect
  • I would say Server Monitor is not very user-friendly. Astera [Centerprise] can add sorting features on different columns to make it more intuitive
  • The search box in server monitor doesn't display the the way I expect.
  • Astera CDI can add Temp tables object to store staging/temporary data instead of using excel or data files.
Suited scenarios: 1) It is really good in integrating the REST APIs

2) Data preview feature is really good which helps in debugging of dataflow easier and faster. Per my knowledge, Astera Centerprise is not very well suited for very large data loads.

3) The new combined CDI+ Edi Connect tool gives the best of both worlds where you can consume the source 850 EDI files and also generate the outbound EDI files like 940, 810, 856 etc. and also use all CDI transformations to massage the data as needed.

  • REST API client, Rest Connection to generate refresh API tokens
  • EDI Connect features like EDI message parser, source, destination.
  • Loop feature to loop the records in the workflows
  • Sending Outbound EDi files like 940, 855, 856, 810 etc..

  • Instead of using Mulesoft which was very costly tool, we chose Astera Centerprise which helped in saving thousands of dollars in licensing fees per year.
  • Last year we were looking for EDI tools for our needs to consume EDI files like 850 and also generate the outbound EDI files like 810, 856 etc. but after comparing others in the market, Astera's EDI Connect was the best choice for us as it was much cheaper and Integrating with our existing Astera CDI tool was easier.
For us Astera Centerprise is a better tool as it helps in solving 2 problems. We use it as both an ETL tool as well as API integration tool. MuleSoft Anypoint Platform is used for API integration only. So we chose Astera Centerprise over MuleSoft. We're now using to EDI integration also.

Yes
Last year we were planning to buy new tool for EDI connections and instead of buying new one we approached Astera and they provided us the EDI Connect which was added to Centerprise stack and working really well for us so far.

We use Centerprise Data Integrator to process data into and out of our proprietary and off the shelf software applications. We process data into mainly SQL Server back-ends. Our numerous EDI outputs are to private and government agencies. We have even used Centerprise to automate and schedule reports using custom DLL functions. We even use custom functions in Centerprise to encrypt and decrypt some of the data. Our latest implementation exports an excel file and automatically PGP encrypts it from a SQL server back-end.
  • Allows for integration of custom functions.
  • Allows us to easily migrate data to and from any data source. Our department has become the go-to for automated data extracts.
  • We use emails from jobs we run in Centerprise to ensure all jobs run successfully.
  • I have not upgraded to the latest version, but in the last version, could use better descriptions in error messages.
  • I have not upgraded to the latest version, but in the last version, it would be nice to have reports we could run or have emailed daily/weekly with success/failure of all jobs scheduled.
I can use Centerprise for just about any scheduled task, even if it does not have to do with data because of the custom functions. I even use it for single run tasks when I need to transform data quickly. There are more expensive products out there that may look like they do more or have fancy bells and whistles, but there is nothing I have tried to do that I couldn't with Centerprise.
  • Increased employee efficiency
  • Allowed us to take more on as a department without added head count
  • Better turnaround time for data conversions.
  • Microsoft SQL Server,Adeptia BPM Suite
Centerprise has many more tools built in so you do not have to build from scratch than SSIS. Centerprise is much more cost effective than Adeptia.

Product features for the price are unbeatable. We have not come across an project too complex to complete in Centerprise.

Change management was minimal
Everything we did prior to Centerprise was manual and not centrally managed, so change management was not a huge issue for us. We just took one project at a time and easily moved it into Centerprise over time.
  • Just the learning curve, but once you understand the basics, it is a rather intuitive product.
Think outside the box because Centerprise can take on more than just data integration.
The Centerprise support team is extremely knowledgeable about the product and they respond very quickly. Our account manager also has no issue getting involved and helping us follow-up. To me, that is an indicator of great customer service, when an account manager still cares if you are having issues and tries to help you interface with other departments such as billing and tech support.

I was having an issue with custom functions. They helped me with a work around and issued a bog fix with next release.
  • Straight source to new destination type conversion
  • custom functions
  • data transformation
  • scheduling jobs
  • Using parameters sometimes needs single quotes around it when used in a SQL statement
  • Dynamic file name
Centerprise is highly usable; however the version we are currently using could be a little more intuitive in some areas though by no means unworkable. I think some of the issues we have have been addressed and solved in the latest version.

Centerprise Data Integrator is used to process XML data. The software is currently used by myself only. Data Integrator replaced SSIS as our XML mapping tool. Due to a very aggressive implementation timeline, SSIS was not feasible. Data Integrator allowed me to map complex XML data very quickly and without much ramp-up time.
  • Maps XML data exceptionally well
  • Integrates flawlessly with SQL 2012
  • Extremely robust set of transformations and functions which allows a huge amount of flexibility with ETL
  • The help functionality. Needs better search and more examples.
I am fairly new to Centerprise Data Integrator, but this software is perfect for those have ETL projects that require rapid concept to production solutions.
  • Definitely increased our data processing efficiency
  • Allowed the company to penetrate a new health care maket space
  • data migrator,talend,pervasive,cloveretl,liquid data mapper
By magnitudes...the time to implement a map. I was up an running in under an hour. The interface is extremely well designed and simple to use. Logging is very robust. Transformations and functions are much easier to use than other vendors I have tried.

Change management was minimal
  • due to the ease of use, there were no significant issues encountered. I did identify a bug, which was confirmed by Centerprise, but it did not prevent me from loading data.
  • Due to the very large XML schemas the government utilizes for health care, some limitations of the GUI created some lag when developing maps. These GUI issues have been relayed to Centerprise
Extremely fast implementation. From install to completed data flows in under a day.
Couple lingering issues that they are looking into. Otherwise, support has been great.

1st time I utilized the product, I was attempting to move through the tool a 1GB file. I kept running out of memory. I was up against an extremely aggressive timeline, so I reached out to Astera for support and within a few hours, I had what I needed to continue.
With the few things I have found with the GUI, I give it a 9. Otherwise it would have been a 10.
  • built in functions provide a nearly limitless way of handling data
  • love the data preview feature. beneficial when mapping xml data
  • when dealing with large xml schemas and having to make a change (like converting an xml source to a transformation) you sometimes have to remap, which in my case, can be hundreds of data points
  • the GUI contains several areas there the display does not show the entire element/field name. The government schemas all contain field names that are very long. The GUI cuts off the ends of these field names, which makes it difficult to select the correct one.
