We use Checkout.com as the payment gateway for our e-commerce business.
  • Better rates than competition
  • Account Management Support
  • Best in class API
Cons
  • Dashboard not as mature as some competitors
Would recommend Checkout.com as a credit card processor for e-commerce retailers with some scale. Their pricing and support is much better than other choices available.

Checkout.com is my payment gateway overall and acquirer in UAE and SG.
We sell only online.
We use Checkout.com for online sales of Hotels and Flights and for offline bookings via phone using pay per link. We are actively using the dashboard for reporting, analytics and using as well the dispute management module.
  • Reliability of the platform
  • Account management: bi-weekly calls and follow up by email or Slack, good understanding of our needs and high engagement
  • Technical account manager: as above, high engagement with us and sharing Checkout.com technical roadmap
  • Performance: with the recent enhancement in intelligent acceptance,
  • Mix of own and third party acquiring: this is much appreciated for a merchant like us to be able to process locally via third party acquiring when Checkout.com does not have its own
Cons
  • Commercials: some competitors provide better fees, especially for cross border transactions
  • Support team: the speed to get an answer can be improved
  • We would like more options when it comes to settlement currencies
If one is looking for a reliable and performing payment gateway I definitely recommend Checkout.com. Especially if the company is selling in many markets and wants to have a mix of local and cross border acquiring.
If cost is the only metric (although it should not be), some alternative providers do better.

Our experience with Checkout.com as a Crypto merchant

We use Checkout.com for credit/debit card and payout transactions, and it currently processes around 90% of our card volume. It allows us to provide quick and seamless purchases of cryptocurrencies via our service. Checkout.com is currently connected with the IXOPAY orchestration platform which is our primary integration (we are not integrated directly with Checkout.com). We currently have one secondary payment service provider that is also connected to IXOPAY in the same way as Checkout.com.
  • Account management (by Charis and the team)
  • Customer support for specific transactions (which is integrated nicely into the platform)
  • Tech support regarding integration, etc. (really quick and very helpful)
Cons
  • We miss downloadable PDF proofs of specific transactions (both debit and payout). We occasionally need this to prove to the client that we actually processed certain transactions.
We only have experience as a crypto merchant, and we had great experience so far, so we would say that Checkout.com is definitely a good service provider for crypto merchants.
But in general, we like the simplicity and user-friendliness of the service (but not at the cost of providing more advanced features, especially with regards to its risk engine).

Data enrichment retention is due to an aggregated payment gateway, acquiring, and processor solution, which ensures the issuer gets the data touch points, so the customer and we gets transaction conversion.
  • Data enrichment retention.
  • Issuer approval rates.
  • SCA exemption use flexibility.
  • Supportive account management.
Cons
  • The portal interface for analytics is on the old integration, so it will be improved when on the new one.
  • Payment functions is on the old integration so will be improved when on the new.
Checkout.com is well suited to process payments with high acceptance rates due to data retention in the payment flow as an aggregated gateway, acquirer, and processor, which is a USP. Also well positioned to assist with SCA 3DS exemptions as they provide this services solution but allow the merchant to use their own exemption strategies where strong TRA capability is available.

We use it to process card payments and manage our chargebacks. We removed all fraud rules and used another service to risk score transactions, as we find the preset rules very limiting and clunky.
  • Quick for pulling reports.
  • Simple management of allow and block lists.
  • Quick and responsive portal.
Cons
  • Dashboards are not intuitive and difficult to create/manage.
  • You can't select more fields (e.g., email address) when reviewing disputes, and you can't accept more than one at a time.
  • Preset fraud rules cause a lot of unnecessary friction.
Overall, it's a solid tool, but it's just for processing payments. Some work needs to be done on UX and dashboards.
