VIrtualizing routers and firewalls, just like VMWare for servers. A significantly smaller footprint in our network cabinets. We now have much less equipment to ship to our remote sites. This makes it extremely easy to spawn a new virtual network device, like a virtual ISR router or a virtual ASA firewall.
  • Smaller footprint
  • Less cooling required compared to physical hardware
  • Easy to allocate more compute resources to virtual guests if required.
  • Less power required compared to physical hardware
  • Earlier software versions (3.x) have had many bugs
  • Templates have not been working until 4.x
  • The largest model 5412 could use a hardware refresh like all the smaller versions just had.
Complex networks e.g. larger sites can greatly benefit from virtualizing network equipment. Smaller sites with only a single router and/or firewall wouldn't really benefit, but only add complexity and unnecessary overhead. Critical systems should always be installed in pairs because if one ENCS appliance device fails, it will take down all virtual clients installed.
  • Footprint
  • Power consumption
  • Easy User Interface
  • Saving on cabinet space due to smaller footprint
  • Easier to ship and handle than physical hardware
  • Princing is very similar to the combined price of what it replaces.

We have used it as an ISR router or a virtual ASA firewall. Provides great flexibility and is very easy to administer. Cisco teams are flexible and easy to manage. No less data is that with this line it is possible to reduce the amount of equipment per headquarters since, as previously mentioned, different equipment can be virtualized, which allows us to save space and costs.
  • Virtualizing routers.
  • Less power required compared to physical hardware.
  • High performance.
  • Configuration options
  • An improvement point would be to correct the large number of bugs that were presented in the older versions, although in the new versions there is an improvement in this aspect.
It seems to me that it is a piece of equipment totally suitable for virtualization, it works perfectly either as an ISR or as an ASA Firewall. This 5000 series of equipment is a platform that is specifically designed and oriented to run VNF. This saves time and at the same time allows us to simplify operations.
  • Footprint.
  • Its interface is very friendly.
  • It allows the VNF certification of other vendors, thus guaranteeing compatibility and interoperability.
  • High availability.
  • Reduces rack unit space.
  • Made it easier for the logistics company to send hardware.
It is used due to its great adaptability in large networks since it allows you to use different technologies, which is a very important factor since you save physical space but also allow you to continue enjoying the services.

  • Cisco NCS 5000 Series
[They are used for] Routing needs for a specific department. We chose Cisco for the flexibility and ease of management. Also, since we have Cisco data center products, the learning curve is much smaller.
  • Flexibility
  • Configuration options
  • High performance
  • Ease of configuration
Well suited for all environments, just select the appropriate model
  • High uptime, dependable
Yes very important, we use Cisco Data Center as well as switching products as well.
We have not, we have other products for this.
Works great
