We have more than 500 APs located in 50 locations. Since the implementation of the new controller, we have not observed any major problems with the operation of the WiFi network. Employees observe an improvement in the availability and operation of the network; in new locations and when modernizing existing ones, we focus primarily on a WiFi network for employees rather than a cable connection.

Aside from an expired certificate issue the systems have been 100% available from a configuration point of view and at no point have APs not been able to join and be configured by the system.

Other than what I mentioned previously, this is pretty rock-solid. In an organization that is large enough to justify purchasing one of these, I would definitely recommend getting two and setting them up either in HA, or in a load-balanced configuration.

The availability of the cisco 9800 wireless lan controller depends on several factors including deloyment mode of the controllers itself, network size and architecture and the maitenance and support factor. It is designed to meet the needs of a large enterprise and together with a cisco support contract any outages will be covered

As mentioned above, in the implementations that we have carried out with this controller, we always use a high availability scheme. We always have a reliable network and have had no availability issues. There have been outages in the service, but they are always due to other factors, such as failures with the internet provider, for example.

No outages so far, perfect uptime. Product has been used only for ~6 months so far, so no opinion can be given on the uptime/availability on a long-term perspective of things. Usually for Cisco products, this has not been an issue in the past, so I am expecting the same for the new Catalyst WLAN Controllers
