We are using ThousandEyes to monitor server/hardware availability. The tool works very well and requires very little overhead/maintenance as it is a SaaS product. We have really been impressed with the power that the tool offers and it is a big improvement over our previous hardware monitoring solution.
  • Hardware/Server Monitoring is the core functionality and it does it very well.
  • The alerting engine is very powerful and easy to administer and configure.
  • The interface is very easy to use and the menu system is easy to navigate and find what you are looking for.
  • The search options work well and allow you to easily find data.
Cons
  • It is a not a true network monitoring/troubleshooting platform even though users sometimes try to use it as such. We initially purchased the product for just Network monitoring and found it lacking in certain areas. There are far superior tools built specifically for Network Monitoring.
  • Support is average at best and this is a place where lots of product companies stumble. They are not bad at support, but just average.
  • Alerting is powerful but you can easily get lost in the options if you are not careful and end up blasting users with tons of emails. Need to get training and experiment with a small user base before enterprise rollout.
Great product, much better than some of the competing products and the contracting options are plentiful and it is generally cheaper than competing products. You get a lot of value for your money!

Excellent for most use cases

We used [ThousandEyes] to monitor the networking performance in a college. We monitored the WAN network with this tool and we had mixed feelings. It had a lot of very useful features and the dashboard was really great, it helped us to really gather in-depth knowledge of the network of how it was being used by the students.

The bad part was (in the time we used it, a year ago) a sync problem. Sometimes it did not gather all the data and therefore there were gaps in our monitoring, but this was minimal (minutes).
  • Network Monitoring
  • Track network experience between apps
Cons
  • Analytics
  • Dashboard quality
If you want to gain in depth performance metrics and gather data about network quality and optimization ideas, [ThousandEyes] is a great addition to your toolset.

We are using ThousandEyes to monitor a variety of things, from BGP routes path to SaaS application performance. ThousandEyes is reliable in detecting issues and often able to pin down the exact cause of an issue. It is integrated with most of the recent Cisco products from Meraki suit, Cat route, Cat9k switch and etc. which made deployment very flexible and easy.
  • Monitoring SaaS application performance
  • Pin down root cause of performance degradation
  • Monitoring BGP routes/path
  • Integration with Cisco networking product, particularly Cisco Meraki
Cons
  • More integration into existing dashboards, e.g. Catalyst centre, rather than have to login to another web portal
  • Desktop clients require specific version (and it is older version) of pcap
BYOD scenario SaaS performance monitoring critical to business While it does not require Cisco networking kits, it is easier to deploy when your networking equipment's are Cisco

My company, Netnology, is a Cisco Partner. Our focus is Solution and Software Integration. We work with 50+ resellers and end customers to deploy Cisco technology and solutions.
We deploy ThousandEyes in our Data Center and Cloud environments to track path visibility and end user experience. We also deploy ThousandEyes along with Cisco SD-WAN to help customers better manage their networks.
  • Provide End to End path visibility
  • Provide insights into End User Experience when access applications in the Data Center or Cloud
  • Integration with other solutions like SD-WAN to help better manage the network
Cons
  • Integration with other Cisco solutions to provide end to end network coverage across Data Center, WAN, Campus and Cloud.
  • Integration with Security products to provide better visibility into impact to network connectivity caused due to security related incidents.
  • Focus on remediation of problems, leveraging AIOps.
ThousandEyes is well suited for customers deploying Cisco SDN solutions such as SD-WAN. ThousandEyes does not provide detailed information on root cause of problems so going deeper into the stack would be beneficial.

Cisco continues to bake in ThousandEyes!

My team and I leverage ThousandEyes for its Network Monitoring capabilities. We rely on the ease of use, ability to lower mean time to resolution, and meantime to innocents. The product addresses ISP monitoring which we rely heavily upon as an organization with a global footprint. ThousandEyes helps our team to achieve the "First to Know" initiative that every infrastructure strives for and benefits from.
  • Cloud Service Monitoring.
  • DEM - Digital Experience Monitoring.
  • Automated Session Testing.
  • Simple API/Webhook Integration with ServiceNow and MS Teams.
Cons
  • It is a bit pricey compared to other solutions.
  • Hoping that Cisco will offer an enterprise agent that is applied to Access Points.
  • Running an endpoint agent on a NUK or RaspberryPie leaves something to be desired for a Cisco to release a small form factor endpoint.
As a retail outfit, ThousandEyes can make a small team just as effective as a full NOC. The ease of use helps teams empower the tiers that are escalating and the peers that are blind to how a network functions. Smaller networks with less complexity may not need to invest as much in operational expenses due to fewer hops.
