We use it for tracking conversation about a brand in the news.
  • Tracking media mentions.
  • Sentiment coding.
  • Full text of media articles mentioning my brand.
  • Updated boolean query options.
Very good for high-level uses. Not as great for deep dives or real-time tracking.

We used Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* for media monitoring to support the Secret Service. We created a daily news summary with it.
*[This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.]
  • Breadth of sources: We could always find reports.
  • Query language is intuitive and help menu detailed enough to help you write advanced queries easily.
  • Features were complementary and useful.
  • We didn't use most of the features, as we had no need for them.
  • News sources were often spam or not meaningful. Some of these could be addressed in the query, but often there were no options.
  • Paywall sources such as LexisNexis and Bloomberg gave just enough to get you an article hit, but failed at giving you the whole story, which made them useless.
Suited for overall media monitoring and marketing work. It's less suited for the type of media monitoring we were doing.

We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* across all PR departments at our company. We use it to track coverage of our clients and news to share PR results with teams.

*This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Cision Communications Cloud has print, broadcast, online and radio all in one place, rather than using different monitoring services for broadcast versus online.
  • Cision Communications Cloud has a ton of data on viewership and the impact of each story.
  • Cision Communications Cloud saves reports and coverage all in one place making it easy to return to coverage that was pulled.
  • There is room for improvement with advanced searches. Rather than having to code out if you want just U.S. coverage or any other specific filters, there should be dropdowns allowing you to fully customize your search.
  • I always receive errors when trying to search just one type of media i.e. just selecting broadcast, or just selecting online, rather than all. The page will continue to refresh and never pull just one type of media which is what we need sometimes.
  • I will still notice coverage results missing and find stories on Google that Cision did not pick up.
Cision Communications Cloud is great when you need mass coverage pulled with numbers. It's harder to find highlights and specific stories and still misses some things.

It is used in the Marketing Department.
  • I rely on the daily alert emails to see what articles have been published in our company.
  • The alert email could provide a summary of what types of coverage were received on that day, as well as YTD summaries.
It suits my need for keeping up with published articles and other important coverage.

Our Communications Team uses Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* for media monitoring and analytics. Real-time alerts on relevant media coverage goes out to other departments in the organisation.
*[This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.]
  • Media analytics.
  • Real-time media monitoring.
  • Boolean search that the media monitoring uses can result in false positives/negatives.
  • The current media database capabilities are not great. Once Gorkana's capabilities are eventually integrated in the platform, I expect it will be much better.
Cision Communications Cloud is best for comprehensive global media monitoring as well as media analytics.

We are using Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to monitor our media relations efforts. We are gathering data on important KPIs, generating reports both in and out of the platform, and sharing the results in hopes to better their PR/Marketing strategies moving forward.
*[This review was written before Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.]
  • It has a great data set.
  • I's UI is very easy to use.
  • The customer service is great.
  • They often have repeat articles.
  • They can't differentiate between broadcast commercials and legitimate hits.
  • They don't have a permissions level style platform. We'd love to grant view access to some of our clients.
  • Syndication removal is difficult, and there's no easy way around it.
Cision Communications Cloud is great for an all encompassing glance on client performance, share of voice comparison, and quick report generating. It's not so great for in the weeds style reporting like we're accustomed to.

Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is being used as a tool to monitor online and print media coverage for the organization. It is used by me and the publicity team to gauge the success of campaigns and for analytics.

*This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Gauge engagement of coverage
  • Add real insight into the success of certain aspects of a PR campaign.
  • Assess which publications are hitting the mark with their content.
  • The functionality has taken a dip recently: social integration hasn't been feeding through, requiring regular going-back to the account manager to resolve incorrect numbers. This meant that the tool was dropped from being used totally due to the time and effort required to get accurate results.
  • The American support team was great with their onboarding, they suggest ways in which the platform can be used. I don't feel the London team has the same handle on the platform and they offer help on the platform if there are issues, but don't go the extra mile to understand how the tool could be used better or in the way it isn't being used currently.
  • Still very USA-centric with the results, the regional information that comes through is all USA focused—particularly Texas. I don't get the impression the platform has been thought through end-to-end for an international market. I've used it both in Australia and in the UK and it was the same in both places.
  • The general feel of TrendKite was that it was a start-up with a passionate staff that was keen to show what it did. Since its sale to Cision, it feels as though it's one part of a much larger organisation and the account managers have less sway - I found myself having to inform them about a third party service they offer as they couldn't get the information
  • It is very expensive for what it is.
Post-event analysis is where I've found Cision Communications Cloud most useful. General monitoring of coverage I've found much more problematic, I've had some difficulty in refining the search boolean to come to a solution that provides the best results.

Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is being used to monitor coverage for campaigns we are interested in and to keep track of our clients' media. We have used the service when creating our competitor analysis decks and results reports from our medical meetings. We use it across many teams as a supplemental way to track real-time coverage. It helps give us another way to track our clients daily traditional media coverage.
*[This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.]
  • Real-time updates of earned media. Its a great way to be on top of coverage since our Google Alerts are delayed and doing a manual search more tedious than helpful.
  • Cision TrendKite support. We use an additional service for our social monitoring and the customer service and reply time TrendKite gives is leaps and bounds better. Every time I contact support, they have been extremely helpful and gotten back to me in a timely manner.
  • It is an easy and user-friendly back end. I have gone and edited searches on my own and it's been very easy and quick.
  • Cision Communications Cloud needs a function that allows you to filter out syndication. It's very difficult to do it manually and time heavy.
  • I wish there were more customization of tagging articles and being able to filter by those tags.
Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is great for daily earn media monitoring and general analysis for results reports. I feel like I would not use the results Cision Communications Cloud reports when it is a deck/report specifically on coverage, earned media or SOV. There are certain nuances that we want in those decks and Cision Communications Cloud doesn't have the customization which makes it easy for us to do it on the platform.

The communications team (part of the marketing dept) uses Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to track the coverage and impact of publicity efforts. These impact analytics give us a sense of what platforms/channels to prioritize as part of our broader digital strategy.
*[This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.]
  • Social integration.
  • Competitor comparison.
  • Impact metrics.
  • It's difficult to limit search terms for our needs.
  • It's difficult to separate product offerings that have overlapping campaigns and search terms.
  • Lack of performing arts expertise.
It's difficult to manipulate search terms for our specific needs. As a result, we have to manually filter the search results before exporting actionable data.

Public Relations Department uses this tool. It provides us with analysis and tools to communicate those results. We also use it to research media contacts and outlets, measure results and track messages.

*This review was written before Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Communications Tools: once you create the initial reporting request, it will create graphics, newsletters, and PowerPoints for you to share these results with others.
  • Dashboard: It gives you a quick peek at trends based on areas you identify (share of voice, messages, spokespeople, competitors).
  • Customer Service: The chat function is fast and efficient. Requests are responded to quickly. Everyone is positive and helpful.
  • Needs to fully merge under one roof and price its Cision media database. The PinPoint tool is nice, but the general media database is not robust.
  • Too much confusion over what you get and don't get in the price you pay.
It's well-suited for PR professionals looking to target their message and outreach. It is not well-suited for mass media pitching or tracking without effort. You need to filter results. You also have to invest time in creating and identifying tracking perimeters.

We use it in multiple ways. It is used primarily to analyze earned media, to track media, and to get a better view of where our earned media is appearing.
  • Useful dashboard.
  • Intuitive manipulation of graphics.
  • Solid customer service.
  • Up-to-date information gathering.
  • Developing of reports is clunky.
  • Tracking subscription-based media.
Of all of its features, the one we use the most is the analysis of earned media and the comparative analysis of US East Coast peers and competition.

It is being used across some, but not all, of our client accounts in the PR agency. The main problem it helps us address is evaluations of client campaigns and presenting hard metrics that can help us illustrate value.

*This review was written before Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Tailored reporting
  • Quant metrics
  • Clear analysis and visual interpretations
  • Sentiment nuances
  • Breadth of media covered
  • Picking up incorrect/irrelevant articles
Good for client reporting and time-saving in the evaluation stages of a campaign. It's always on/live tracking so you don't have a large amount of work at the end of a campaign

Less appropriate as a media monitoring tool for daily or weekly analysis of news agenda, media titles, more qualitative details ie. sentiment.

We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* service both as a global solution and for the specific segments and markets/regions. In my case I monitor all Russian-language publications. I mainly use it as an instrument for monitoring and evaluating the efforts of my department both quantity and quality wise. Also, I monitor competitor's activity via this tool.

*This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Reporting and visuals features are quite good - excellent for presentations
  • Representation of the regional publications (non-English)
  • Customer Service - quick and responsive.
  • Regional journalists database still requires serious update. For example, in Russia (big one, obviously) there are thousands of regional publications, influencing regional agenda more than federal or all-Russia media. Cision (TrendKite) has poor representativeness of these kind of media, thus missing the point of high-quality service provider. I could not rely 100% on Cision because of this.
Well suited - when you're a big company with hundreds and thousands of publications quoting you every day, this is a good instrument to measure trends and dynamics. However, when you're a middle-sized or a small company seeking help in monitoring and reporting, this might be a bit overcomplicated (because of the manual monitoring efforts on top).

We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to monitor earned media coverage for our brands. Analytics uses it most heavily, but some other teams use it also to provide daily or weekly brand monitoring. We pull metrics such as estimated reach, social shares, and SEO impact in order to provide a picture of campaign performance, and we also use it to monitor competitive coverage and share of voice.

*This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Capturing media coverage across the web.
  • Providing metrics like readership from an industry-trusted source, SimilarWeb.
  • Online chat support.
  • The boolean language used is far from standard, and requires a great deal of investment to understand and work with. It is also not as flexible as it should be (no wildcard operators, no ability to specify text case).
  • It's too reliant on dashboard output vs. data exports. If you want to do deeper analysis by exporting raw data and manipulating or visualizing it yourself, you're in for a lot of extra work and frustration.
  • It's inable to easily track sub-queries within a query, and has very limited ability to customize metrics. Measuring on-message mentions is a big use case for PR, but it's virtually impossible to do this. My team has lost many hours trying to find workarounds due to this gap in functionality.
It's well suited for the most basic monitoring of brand or competitor mentions in earned media. It's not suited for in-depth analysis, anything requiring data export, or monitoring the quality (vs. quantity) of media coverage.

Cision Intelligence Cloud (TrendKite)* is used to monitor media mentions of our company and our competitors. We use it to monitor mentions in print, broadcast (TV & radio) and online publications. The program is used by the Public Relations department and addresses our need to listen to the media and analyze our impact.

*This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Cision's dashboards are incredibly helpful for tracking our earned and social media mentions against our competitors.
  • The customizable Newsletters are a great way to share media coverage with anyone in the company.
  • Our customer service from our account rep is great, but contacting the Support team for minor issues can be somewhat frustrating.
  • There have been instances where the platform has missed media mentions from smaller publications, but that has quickly been remedied by customer service when it's brought to their attention.
Cision Communications Cloud is a great platform for a company interested in monitoring their earned and social media coverage and comparing it against its competitors. It can be complicated building out new searches and dashboards, but the support team will handle that for you if you're not comfortable with it. Cision also provides great tools for creating reports that can be easily shared with other departments.

The Corporate Affairs team at Centrica is using Cision Communications Cloud (Trendkite)* to solve a long-standing problem of an inability to demonstrate the value of utilizing media. Our communications department uses it to monitor our global coverage.
  • Monitors coverage very well.
  • Able to make good analyses reports.
  • I think advance searches should be easier to do. The fact that we need to "code" the search makes it a bit intimidating. It should be as easy as typing key words.
Great creating reports and monitoring coverage. But in my region, print is still important and some publications publish articles that appear only in print but not on online. That is an area of improvement needed. I have to use Cision Communications Cloud (Trendkite)* more as a complement to my current reports and not as my main report.

I use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to track coverage across the Asia Pacific region and develop monthly reports for business stakeholders.
*[This review was written before Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.]
  • The newsletter function is great. It's easy to use and repeat successful formats with updated content.
  • The tagging system is great, allowing you and other team members to track a theme or coverage from a campaign across geographies.
  • The training options are good, with options to learn more about the product's features.
  • Cision does not track print coverage at all, and there is no way to track this, missing a large and important media source.
  • Cision's coverage of media outlets in non-USA regions could be significantly improved. I've had major metro newspapers coded as "blog" in countries like Australia, which is impossible to change and has a negative impact on results when read by stakeholders unfamiliar with the market.
Newsletter development and sharing is a great feature of Cision Communications Cloud, as it is easy to set up and use.

Cision Communications Cloud (Trendkite)* is currently used by multiple divisions of our company. Our PR and marketing teams use it for the traditional use case of monitoring our own brands and initiatives, and my team uses it to monitor and report on the PR value of our sponsors in order to provide a deeper look at how partnering with us provides that additional brand value.

*This review was written near the time Cision acquired TrendKite. TrendKite is now part of Cision Communications Cloud.
  • Customer Service: our account manager has gone above and beyond to help make sure everything is set up and running the way we need it.
  • Customization: the platform is very flexible and they will work with you to create templates that work best for your use cases.
  • Presentation: their dashboards are clear and concise and easy to share within the organization.
  • There are some data points that they report on that are outdated and can be misleading to someone who doesn't understand traditional PR terms and reporting.
  • Pieces of their platform are not user friendly and require an account manager's assistance to set up.
  • While the overall dashboards are clear, getting into the details can become a bit confusing with the way things are structured.
I say this as someone who is not focused specifically on PR initiatives, but it does seem to have all the tools necessary to track broad PR campaigns or branding, especially if there is specific wording you would like to track. The only situation I've come across that I don't believe it is greatly suited for is for tracking very small or obscure campaigns; at that level, there is either very minimal coverage to track or the campaign is too vague to differentiate between other articles.

The platform is used by the PR team in the company to do media monitoring, especially with campaigns and big events like MWC, CES, and IFA.
  • Strong in oversea media monitoring. Big database.
  • Can also monitor the social impact of each article.
  • Not enough Chinese media in the database, not accurate with Chinese media.
  • Platform is sometimes pretty slow in reaction or searching.
When doing a comprehensive report for oversea media performance, it's really useful. But when it comes to Chinese media, we basically cannot get the correct or desirable report from it.

We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to:
  • Identify reporters to whom we want to pitch stories.
  • Find the contact information of reporters.
  • Build mailing lists.
  • Send press releases.
  • Find out more about media outlets, such as unique visitors per month.
  • Create media monitoring reports.
  • Create a quarterly report for leadership and different teams.

  • Visually appealing.
  • Lists articles reporters have written recently so that I can pitch the right content to the right reporters.
  • Provides real-time customer service via chat.
  • It does not have contact information for many reporters whom I want to contact.
  • It does not allow us to customize the look and feel of our reports.
  • Cision Communications Cloud has limited information on news outlets. For example, it does not include the number of print subscribers.
  • Story Kit has limitations, including requiring teams to link their corporate email accounts, which is a privacy/HIPAA risk for healthcare users.
It's not good as an online Rolodex of reporter's information because Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is missing a lot of reporter contacts. It takes a while for them to get the contact once requested. Hopefully this issue will be fixed once Cision is fully incorporated.
We often need to vet media outlets, but Cision Communications Cloud has limited information on media outlets. It can definitely be more robust. We would like information such as print subscribers or even demographics if that's available.

  • Owned account tracking.
  • Including social data in overall media monitoring reports.
  • The social component could be upgraded to more accurately collect metrics on ephemeral content.
  • Social listening is done in a completely different program than the media monitoring - combining the two would make report creation much easier and allow for a fuller picture of an incident across traditional and social media on the built-in dashboard section.
  • Social listening only tracks Twitter. Public Facebook comments would be key in seeing a fuller picture of how an incident or campaign is playing out on social media.
My favorite aspect of Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is the easy drag and drop report creation. We use this particularly when we are reporting campaign results or providing a snapshot of an incident. Prior to using Cision Communications Cloud, we were creating multiple different reports using different services and then compiling them into one report - it was sloppy. Cision Communications Cloud has allowed us to create compelling, easy to understand reports for media monitoring directly from a Dashboard and then we add in the social listening component by adding more slides to that same report with easy formatting to make it match.

Cision Communication Cloud is less appropriate to use for real-time customer service on social media, such as responding to complaints or praise during a live event when the timing is key to head off negative thoughts. Because it is just a listening platform you cannot post from the same service in response to negative tweets so doing so would involve an extra step.
