Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

Cision is the gold standard of PR software. It's the original and it's usually the best. However, as they've gotten bigger and acquired more tools, it can be difficult to use. MuckRack usually has more up to date information about reporters' actual beats, and their contact info is sometimes more up to date. AirPR has a lot of other data functions for client reporting, but it doesn't always have the classic PR features you need. It's hard to run an agency or PR team without access to Cision, really.

None of the tools I've personally worked with come close to Cision's* capabilities and functionality.

The company is not apples to apples because we used Meltwater to find media contacts and for some reporting. We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* at this time specifically for media monitoring and creating reports that quantify all PR efforts for clients. Cision reports have been beneficial in helping us with strategy and showcasing our work.

  • Gorkana Media Database
We previously used Gorkana to track media mentions. Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* provides the same service but is also integrated into the dashboard and reporting functions which is massively helpful. The one slight concern is that we can't filter out low-quality content and irrelevant mentions effectively but we couldn't do that with Gorkana either.

Cision has been far superior to Meltwater, in my experience. The platform is significantly more updated, the results are more comprehensive, and the use of the platform has been much more smooth.

I like Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* the best of these options because of the interactive reports that are good for both types of stakeholders, those who want a big picture analysis or deep dive. They also do a great job of catching nearly everything so I don't feel like we are missing coverage.

  • muckrack and gorkana
Cision has more descriptive information and more capabilities for building media lists through the platform, but Muckrack and Gorkana are easier to use and also usually include people that Cision does not have in its database.

  • Cision PR Software
Cision gave us access to current emails of editors, writers and journalists. This was very helpful for our press outreach. Cision gave us access to A News Tip but I found that service to not have current contact info and was not able to help us much.

  • Meltwater
We previously used Meltwater for media monitoring for several years. I find Cision's platform much more robust in its analysis and reporting capabilities. I'm also more impressed by Cision's customer service. We evaluated about 10 different media monitoring platforms before choosing to switch to Cision, and none of them seemed as user friendly or powerful as Cision Communications Cloud.

  • Meltwater
We have used Meltwater in the past and went for TrendKite because, mainly, it offered us the desired flexibility with unlimited searches. With Meltwater, we were very limited in that regard and couldn't break down our analysis to the required level of detail.

Cision (TrendKite) was the only solution that really listened to our needs and set itself apart by presenting easy-to-use graphic interfaces that, about 80% can be done by the customer instead of requiring contact with an account manager. Other vendors were more interested in touting their own experience and making sure we'd fit into their platform (one of them was keen on repeating over and over in demos that their solution was cloud-based; which had little bearing in our decision) versus the approach Cision took which was to ask about our brand and challenges and then show how their platform could work for us.

I have used 2 other companies and Cision is by far the most user friendly and best designed. Reporting is very easy and interactive while previous companies made reporting painful by having to first research coverage on certain topics and then combine all the searches for different words - whilst Cision has them all included in the search terms, which you can easily change and add as well. It is also easy to find top coverage.

I know Meltwater has a similar service as a part of its core function which is to monitor media presence. We use Meltwater to monitor HMSHost coverage but we don't really use the media list component because we find Cision to be so user-friendly and quite frankly it's what we are used to.
