TrendKite competitors include Cision [before TrendKite was acquired by Cision], Meltwater, Newswire, Agility PR Solutions, Business Wire, PRWeb, and Coveragebook.com. The Centrica organization evaluated a few of these competitors before selecting TrendKite. Cision [before joining with TrendKite] had a slower reach to ROI. The Centrica organization had previous experience utilizing TrendKite and quickly realized the investment, coupled with the ease of implementation and level of service, it made the selection of TrendKite [now Cision Communications Cloud] very easy.

For ease of use and more up-to-date media contacts, Cision was far superior to both TrendKite and Meltwater. I hope that Cision data will be fully incorporated into Cision Communication Cloud / TrendKite.

Sysomos Heartbeat was better positioned as a customer service platform, but I like Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* for its easy report creation. While Sysomos also has report creation functionality, Cision's reports are easy to understand and you're able to add comments and notes as it's being created to provide a nuanced explanation of the data that is shown.

Cision TrendKite has much better customer support, I never felt like I truly understood how to use Meltwater however I feel much more confident using Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* and know that the support team will always be able to respond quickly if I have any urgent queries or need assistance pulling together a report.

We used Dash Hudson prior to starting Cision Communications Cloud. It worked well for us for a while but gradually became less and less efficient. Switching from a platform that's primary focus was Instagram and influencer based to Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* was a huge shift. Cision Communications Cloud easily delivers 20x the capabilities of our previous platform. It's simply not a comparison at all. The positive impact it has had on our workflow has been immeasurable.

I think the Cision Communications Cloud is more nuanced, more sophisticated, and easier to use. While Meltwater is cheaper and includes social listening (Cision Communications Cloud requires additional $$ for social listening), I think Cision Communications Cloud has a better dashboard and easier user experience. Meltwater tracking emails are more comprehensive when it comes to daily PR alerts.

  • Cision PR Software
I know the PR team utilizes Cision [pre-TrendKite acquisition] for pitching/journalist research. I have found their readership numbers to vary greatly though and their search functionality to be quite lacking compared to Cision Communications Cloud [now with TrendKite].

We looked at both of these. Cision was too expensive, and Meltwater wasn't as efficient as TrendKite. My understanding is that TrendKite was created by former Meltwater employees, and they have amplified the product. Honestly, with the merger with Cision, I don't see how Meltwater can compete until they develop or pivot new ideas on how to measure or grow reach. All three struggle with proper attribution, but I am much more bullish on the Cision/TrendKite platform than I would be on Meltwater.

Most PR databases seem to offer similar services in terms of list building, distribution and monitoring, but sometimes they differ if they are used at global level, vs. national or hyper-local. Because we have been long-standing customers with Cision, we have the opportunity to renew our annual contract at pricing levels that don't account for year-over-year price increases.

The biggest difference for us using Cision Communications Cloud this year has to do with clear communication of results in straightforward graphs that are easy for non-communications specialists to digest. It also has been a great time-saver for staff members who were previously responsible for reporting these trends manually each month. It is a very slick and sophisticated system.

  • Cision PR Software
We like Cision [with TrendKite]'s offerings more than Cision [pre-TrendKite acquisition], and think it is more intuitive to use. Their media contacts [Cision original feature], however, are better than TrendKite's.
