  • The Clarizen tool (V6) is likely the most configurable SaaS tool available in the PPM world - especially when it comes to the user interface. Meeting a company's need for custom fields & workflows to support unique processes is a major selling point of the tool.
  • Training and support for the tool is nearly unprecedented - there is high involvement from Clarizen staff to ensure both Administrators & End-Users have the assistance they need to utilize the breadth and depth of the offering in both a highly usable & highly available manner.
  • I believe one of Clarizen's strongest points of appeal is that it seems to be able to uniquely meet the needs of the SMB all the way up to true enterprise requirements for PMO's.
  • While V6 has brought with it a phenomenal amount of customization of the entire user-interface, I think there is a need for Clarizen to strike a better balance in providing a greater set of pre-configured interface & workflow options for those organizations that don't need that level customization, as it can be overwhelming.
  • The weakest point of Clarizen today in my mind is the "interactive" Gantt - it is surprisingly limited in configuration options and somewhat clunky in its current design.
  • -- That being said, I know that within 2014 they have committed to rolling out a new interactive Gantt consistent with their updated HTML5 UI overhaul and based on the innovation updates, looks very promising.
  • Though it's understandable from the need to "support" the infrastructure (and from a revenue perspective, I'm sure), I think the current licensing limitations on workflow rules, but more importantly custom field creation, as well as the process by which those limitations are "calculated" is a little convoluted.
  • The mobile "app" is desperately in need of some work - it does very little in terms of value of end-users.
  • -- Again, that being said, I know that within 2014 they have committed to rolling out a new mobile app that more consistent with the main UI standards.
Best suited for SMB companies - low financial impact and great value.
  • The Clarizen tool has greatly increased not only the visibility of projects across our internal organization, but has been able to allow us to provide better, more consistent project visibility to our customers as well.
  • Having a single place that is accessible on-demand for managing projects across our team has been a huge gain in efficiency.

The bottom line is that the tool is always accessible and easy to use. The value pricing means it's well worth the investment and is easily justifiable.

It is being used by most of the people in our organization across several departments. It solves our problem of accurately tracking the many projects we concurrently develop and allows us to better manage our project resources. It is improving our efficiency and also our project profitability. It was a good choice and we are pleased with our decision to purchase Clarizen over the other competing products.
  • Resource Management is much more straight forward and aligning project lifecycles with resource availability
  • Gives a graphical and numeric look to project status and utilizations
  • Is easy to setup and use
  • Solves time tracking and project management within the same application
  • Allowing for multiple project managers on the same project would be nice.
  • Build the user manual link within the application.
  • More interactive relationship with Salesforce.
For IT it works great, I can not make the determination if it would be equally as effective in other industries such as construction management or health. For IT and general business use, it seems to fulfill the needs of an organization quite well.
  • Better customer service through issue tracking
  • Provides a quick overview for project rollups and resources
  • Clients love the participation we can provide to them through Clarizen
It is much easier to use and provides more immediate visualization than MS-Project does. The learning curve with Clarizen is far shorter than MS-Project. It is also less costly than MS-Project.

  • more client involvement

It fulfills our needs, is easy to use and have not had any complaints about it. Unless they raise the price of it, I don't see why we would change from Clarizen at the end of our subscription period.

The most important was the price and functionality as compared to rival products such as MS-Project and the other cloud base project management products. After going through the demo, it was clearly the choice for our people and in turn our clients in providing quick, up to date project status.
I don't think we would do anything that different. We looked at many products that were cloud based and site based but felt cloud based was the way to go since we were also going to be getting SalesForce for our organization. We looked at all the factors and Clarizen was the clear winner.

Change management was minimal
  • None that I can think of
  • Implementation was fairly quick and no problems were encountered
I performed the implementation with our Clarizen provide trainer, who knew the product 100% and it went quickly and without a problem. It was a pleasurable process without the problems other software implementation often encounter. Kudos to the Clarizen team for making this a worry free process for their clients because it is worry free.
  • Online training
Our trainer, Alex, is exceptional and knows the product really well. I swear he must have wrote the product himself! His manner with training is very easy going, gives you homework that is applicable to what you need to learn and stages it correctly for you. It was a pleasure to be trained by him.
No
At this point, we just using the standard support since we are new users. If we determine that premium support is required to serve our needs, then we will look to address that at that time and see if it is cost justified to do so. For now we are very pleased with standard support.
Any questions we pose to Clarizen are addressed immediately and I receive an answer usually within a matter of hours as opposed to days with other software companies. Clarizen really works hard to get back to it customers quickly and it is well appreciated. When you have a question or struggling, timeliness is important.
No
All I can say is our sales representative and trainer are exceptionally good at what they do and I deeply appreciate their concern and responsiveness to my and my organizations needs. They should be the model for all other companies to follow because Clarizen really does a great job at this.
  • user setup
  • project setup
  • time entry
  • initial company setup wasn't hard but you had to pay attention
  • syncing to SalesForce required assistance from our Clarizen trainer
easy to use and it is very effective for meeting our project management requiremtns
  • Salesforce
It was very simple to integrate. The Clarizen trainer walked me through it and it was done within 10 or 15 minutes. No problems at all.
  • Maybe Quickbooks
Yes they currently support this.
havent used any of them yet
Integration with SalesForce was a piece of cake. Our trainer walked me through the process and we completed on the first attempt without any problems at all within 10 or 15 minutes. It was really very simple and stress free. Clarizen makes their intergrations to other products extremely easy to accomplish.
For anyone considering it, just do it. Our experience has been very good with the process and would not worry about attempting any other future product tie ins to Clarizen. If the process to tie in SalesForce was as easy as it was, then all other products tie ins should be even easier.
There was no problems dealing with sales at all, no pressure and they agreed to some of our requests that were not necessarily standard for them but the did it anyway. They are professional in how they treat potential clients and were a pleasure to deal with. Wish all software companies were this way.
They treated use just the same way as pre sale and did not ignore us since we purchased the product. My initial sale contact has followed up several times to make sure I was satisfied with the product and also wanted to check on how my training was progressing and if I was pleased with Clarizen.
Standard terms except for an out clause after 6 months if we weren't pleased with the product. Normally, the standard subscription term is 12 months. If we are satisfied and I know we will be after 6 months, we will sign for an extended period of time to get a better discount.
None was necessary. Everything went very well so additional tips or advice wouldn't be needed. They are very professional and respectful of you and your organizations needs.

  • Easy to track time in projects and see what is going on from a high level.
  • I'm not completely satisfied with the reporting. I have access to the Excel plug-in, but system users run ad-hoc reports directly in Clarizen. The issue is that the tables are not relational. For example, if someone wants to run a project comparing project variables to timesheets, they have to build pivot tables which is daunting for many users. Ideally, we would have a company wide reporting infrastructure that we could use in conjunction with Clarizen and we are starting to look into acquiring an appropriate data analytics / visualization tool.
  • The Clarizen system comes with some pre-set flags that are based on industry benchmarks. While these can be useful, they do not always apply, and I wish we could turn them or at least modify them to meet our own criteria. For example, red flags sometimes get generated if a budget is off track or a project is a day late. But these are often not real issues and we would like to be able to clear the red flags or set our own thresholds.
  • We were able to sail through our audits with ease and quick resolve based on having all the information in one place - in Clarizen.
It has worked well for us so far and it took a long time to get the users to adopt it and use it on a regular basis, I cant think of anything that would make us want to change.
The people at Clarizen are great to work with, always willing to help you out and have been more than generous with their time and attention to our needs.

  • Project Management.
  • Portfolio Management.
  • Time Tracking.
Our department of 120 people was using a variety of software packages including a legacy DOS program called Microman, MS Project, Excel, Work, Access and some others.
AtTask, EPM Live, CorasWorks

There were many different reasons why we chose Clarizen but ease of use, functionality and price and adaptability were our top reasons.
  • Implemented in-house
Need better examples and assistance with customization of workflow rules.
  • Online training
  • Self-taught
Many video tutorials, offers of webinars are available all the time.
The GUI is somewhat intuitive, but training is definitely needed.
To make the system as user friendly and adaptable as possible.
No
Have not decided to invest in additional support yet
Other than being in different time zones, the rapid response and resolution is amazing.
Ease of timecard use, Customization.
Sometimes it is slow when everyone is entering their time on Fridays or Mondays but other than that we rarely see downtime and maintenance notifications are well in advance.
Speed is very good considering the number of users that are on simultaneously.
  • An, as yet, unnamed reporting tool. We are looking at purchasing a company wide analytics / reporting tool which we would plug into multiple data sources (Cisco, Mozy, NexCom Mobility) including Clarizen.
Yes.
The salesperson is what really sold me on the product. Clarizen was not one of my top 5 choices until Gil Heiman really went the extra mile to do webinars, demos, send literature, answer questions, etc. He did a great job.
I was able to negotiate the Excel-Add In for reporting at no charge.

  • They do a good job of project management, time tracking. They do very well what their core purpose is
  • It is easy to configure, intuitive. The customization process is in some ways better than Salesforce.com. It has a great UI.
  • They are a great group of people. They have sent people on site. They are a great company to work with.
  • Integration – any SAAS provider has to have seamless integration in mind. They have a lot of work to do, but they are getting there. The amount of development required has been very intensive to get it to work
  • Clarizen can only accept data imports (data loads) from MS Project – because of that we couldn’t import data from Basecamp. That means we have had to continue to use Basecamp in parallel to finish those projects.
  • Only accepting MS project for imports is a huge oversight
  • Communication with 3rd parties e.g. customers – Basecamp does that much better.
  • They are based in Israel, so that presents a few challenges like you cannot access on Fridays (Saturday in Israel). They now have opened a small office in San Francisco to alleviate this problem
  • It is too early to tell. We just officially launched on 8/1. We were doing a pilot before hand. The pilot group have been in it since May.
• With an application like this that is customized, integrated, you have to be very unhappy to renew.
Overall, the product is developed very well. Custom field creation is very straight forward. You don’t have many screens to pass through like in Salesforce.com. It is very user friendly. Workflows and validation rules are a bit more code based than Salesforce.com. Salesforce.com has a much more simple approach/ non-technical. You can do more with Clarizen, but it’s harder. I don’t think they were SAS 70/SSAE 16 compliant yet.

Primarily our implementation engineers, designers and the managers of those groups. Our marketing team is also going to use Clarizen for managing their projects, events etc. It is a good replacement for Basecamp.
2
There are 2 people involved – a developer and myself, the sys admin/ technical PM I split my time between Clarizen and Salesforce.com. Currently, the proportion of my time spent on Clarizen is high as we just rolled it out to bigger user base, however I expect that to settle down to maybe 20% of my time. Once you get it baked, it’s pretty stable.
  • Time tracking.
  • Understanding how much does a customer cost.
  • Tracking what products and features have gone live.
  • Technical staff backlog.
  • Resourcing teams – all the way from manager to individuals. Teams are automatically assigned based upon criteria we establish.
A combination of custom objects in NetSuite and tried multiple variations of custom objects in Salesforce.com. We also tried an application called DreamTeam (from Dream Factory).
  • Vendor implemented
  • Implemented in-house
Our in-house resource did the bulk of the work, but we were guided/ kept on task by Clarizen’s project manager.
• Went very well. Great team to work with. • A key insight is that you need an in-house developer or to use a 3rd party firm for development.
  • In-person training
• We worked with a Project Manager on their side. He was very good about developing a project plan to hit our goal. I think we had weekly or twice weekly calls – very steady cadence over 3 month period. • Their PM skills were great – kept us on task. For the last week, they sent 2 people on site and they did training for power users. After that a couple of them revisited here.
No
• Extremely responsive to emails, phone calls etc. • Will stay on an issue. We have had several issues on custom development side, and they will work on tirelessly until done and push a hot fix just for us • Don’t seem to be as bureaucratic as Salesforce.com to escalate a case
It is easy to configure, intuitive. The customization process is in some ways better than Salesforce.com. It has a great UI. It does however depend on how it's implemented. The design of it is generally fine, however the ability to data upload people from a spreadsheet is an obvious miss.
• We had a couple of glitches. It’s maybe gone down twice since May. The length of outages has not been bad
  • Salesforce.com
Right now all projects in Clarizen are created from closed won opportunities in Salesforce.com. The integration between Salesforce.com and Clarizen allows for a lot of automation, however I am however only moderately happy with the level of integration. In the sales cycle, when asked about integration, Clarizen’s answer was “yes, we integrate to Salesforce.com”, but in reality the integration is one way and to make the data flow between applications requires a lot of developer work i.e. a lot of custom development. Most of the integration occurs around creation. Any updates in Salesforce.com are a pain to update in Clarizen and vice versa. The roundtrip of data flow is not seamless at all. We are their only customer with such a heavy integration with Salesforce.com. They have repeatedly put out hot fixes and are using us as a poster child for Salesforce.com integration. It does speak very well of them that they are so responsive. They have an impressive client list with complex business rules, who are global etc. What they weren’t used to was Clarizen creating projects based upon a Salesforce.com action. They are mostly used to working outside of Salesforce.com.
  • Jira
We are about to integrate to Jira (which we use for bug tracking) and Salesforce.com support cases. We have no plans to integrate to NetSuite (our general ledger)
Did not have any conflict with standard terms. The only term we negotiated was the per license fee.
