We use CMIC to manage our subcontracts, Change Orders, RFIs, submittals, Transmittals, daily logs, and most of all of our project documentation. All of our superintendents and project managers use CMIC. We do not have the financial side of CMIC right now, but have been talking about it however some of our management is not comfortable with switching from the financial software that we currently have and some are also not comfortable with having our financial software be on the cloud, some of them prefer to have all of the financial information stored locally on our accountant's computer and not even on our company network. Right now we are not utilizing CMIC as much as we could and I would like to try and get the company to use it more. I really like the software and it was much less expensive than other applications. The CMIC support has been really good at times but early on it was a bit rough. We had some issues getting a good response from support but for the most part, I have been very satisfied with their support folks. The user interface is similar to that of other project management software applications so folks in our company that had previously used other applications have been able to switch over fairly easily.

  • They have had quite a few times where the system and features have gone down or been available over the past year or two but before that, it was always good with no problems.
  • I wish there was an easier way to customize all of the forms and reports and not have to only use Excel or Word MIP templates.

We use CMIC to integrate our accounting and construction management operations.
  • Tracks contracts and change orders.
  • Tracks owner changer orders.
  • Supports monthly billing using AIA type documents.
  • The platform is large so operation is pretty slow.
  • Field management (daily reports, material tracking) is a little bulky and hard to use.
  • Invoicing can be a little glitchy.
The CMiC Construction platform works well for tracking costs and financials. It makes job buyout relatively easy. It does not work as well with field management. The daily report module is not particularly user-friendly for field personnel.

We use CMiC for our project management, financials, and payroll. CMiC helps us manage all the subcontracts/AP in one system, which along with payroll data is used for Jjb billing. Costing, AP, and payroll flow right into Job billing. We also do union payroll which CMiC handles very well.
  • Payroll.
  • Financials.
  • Job costing.
  • Job billing.
  • More robust safety module.
  • Flexible checklist with QR codes.
  • BI that is easier to use for users.
CMiC is strong in financials. If used for a job, billing with payroll works very well.

We use CMiC for construction management and accounting purposes across the whole organization. The integration of both construction and accounting is very helpful for tracking purposes that address the issue of trying to coordinate between two different platforms.
  • Integrated accounting and construction management platforms to aid in tracking and minimize errors
  • Forecasting module is clear
  • Construction admin modules need some work as outside users are unlikely to want to use
  • Some minor bugs still in meeting minutes
The integration of both the construction and accounting software is very helpful for forecasting and tracking of invoicing. Issuance of contract documents such as subcontracts/POs are also well constructed assuming the templates are properly set up. Some administrative tracking programs like meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, etc. still need some work as we have found it's unlikely for outside parties to want to use CMiC in lieu of traditional email.

Our entire company uses CMiC for both accounting and project management. It has been helpful being able to incorporate all necessary departments into one software.
  • Communication between every department
  • Keeping all accounting and project management data in one space
  • Being able to use that data to focus on tasks that need more attention or effort
  • Better communication between Enterprise and Field where invoicing is concerned
  • Less random and vague error messages for users and subs billing in the online portal
  • More help from support when problems arise in regards to accounting functions with some sense of urgency.
It is very well suited to processing invoices, and job costing. We make frequent use of the reports and query functions as well. There are a few things in the software that do not function properly or at all however. We were told upon the sale of CMiC to us that we would be able to use the Compliance functions to help keep up with insurance expirations for vendors or subs etc. Unfortunately, it has not worked properly yet. Furthermore, it has actually caused really annoying issues that CMiC has yet to help us fix. It has been auto-assigning "automobile insurance" to all the vendors on both the subcontract level per job and the vendor level. These cause "compliance holds" each time we go to print a batch of checks. We did not even turn that option on as we do not use it, but we have no way to turn it off short of periodically running a compliance hold report and manually removing whatever the software will allow. If the vendor happens to have an invoice already in the system or a voucher in a batch you're screwed. After submitting the problem to the support team several times, and even a phone call complete with a patronizing non-helpful IT person, the problem still persists. The compliance part of CMiC does not even remotely function, let alone function properly, and needs attention ASAP.

[CMiC Construction Platform] is being used across the whole organization: in the office and in the field. From creating job costs to reconciling bank accounts
  • Easy to add/edit vendors and business partners
  • Quick search through AP invoices
  • Tracing a transaction is well made
  • Entering a code of the vendor instead of the company name while recording an invoice takes time and seems counter intuitive
  • Editing an invoice created through Image Management on the AP side is limited to description and address field. When changing the rest (invoice# or a date or an amount) - the whole trace of who entered/submitted/approved disappears. The way it works now is: deleting an invoice from the batch, locating it through Registry/invoice search, unsubmitting it, making changes, submitting, adding back to batch - time consuming
  • In Multiple distribution pop up window, when entering a new invoice, I'd make the field "Company" to be autofilled once "Job" is entered. It takes time to memorize what job number belongs to what company.
  • There is only web version available and it is limited compare to a desktop client. For instance I can only make one change at a time and save it. Multiple changes don't get saved in one click
[CMiC Construction Platform] is well suited for bigger companies with multiple locations and lots of employees.
It would be less appropriate for smaller companies that don't require such detailed job description/costing etc

CMiC is being used as a document control and collaboration tool by us as the GC for a project in conjunction with our client and their designer as collaborators. It currently creates more problems than it addresses. Except for the activity tracking for submittals and RFIs we currently only see functions similar to a SharePoint or Dropbox system because there were so many issues during the initial setup 6 months ago that have continued to drag out that we have never been fully set up and requests to finish installation continue to push as our account gets moved to different leads.
The platform has significant issues with setup and customization for us, we have repeatedly submitted requests for assistance with item not functioning properly (data not fully shown on report prints, data disappearing, incorrect data being transmitted via the I/O feature on submittals, request for custom documents folder structures) and many of our larger issues have not been resolved. We would be better off with SharePoint because it at least allows for document structuring the way we need for this project and the file data wouldn't have date or missing information issues like we are currently experiencing. The product issues are bad enough, but the "IT support" process of trying to tell us how to program the system that was never fully programmed to "fix" something or not being able to fix a collaborator access issue without needing a middle man to collect screen shots is less than ideal. People shouldn't have be be tech savvy to use this product. If you offer "IT support" it should include fixing the issue directly instead of a drawn out series of screen shots and condescending messages.
  • Data tracking.
  • Installation and setup.
  • Tech support.
  • Glitches and error fixing in a timely manner.
  • Custom document folder options.
  • User friendly platform.
  • Streamlined collaborator viewing/use.
  • Customer support.
  • More urgency in fixing ongoing issues.
  • Single point of contact, you require it of your client but don't provide it.
  • Direct support access for all users, including collaborators.

We originally purchased CMiC to use across all parts of the business but we didn't ever get beyond using it in the accounting department and a little bit in the field for project managers.
CMiC appears to be a good platform. If everything worked, it would be well suited to a larger construction company that has a static list of cost codes that are applied across all jobs. It does not seem to have a very good service portion to it. However, even though the software would be suited to job costing clients, our experience was that there are still so many issues with the software that the appearance was deceiving.
  • Approval processes for AP invoices
  • Multiple places where data can be easily uploaded
  • Integration with tools like Bluebeam for drawing management (CMiC mobile app)
  • Taxes do not flow from the job to POs and subcontracts.
  • Stability of the product in general
  • Payroll--entering of employees and time do not flow easily.
  • AP invoices
  • Updates--if you are cloud-based, you have no control over when the software is updated.

My company uses CMiC for both accounting and project management. I am familiar with the project management side. It's been great for budget management and I love the fact that I can code invoices digitally. Saves a ton of time reviewing printed paperwork as we'd done in the past.
CMiC has been great in keeping our company with live budget updates. Drawing management has been a struggle. We've begun using BlueBeam instead for this.
  • Great at keeping budgets in real time.
  • Daily reports are thorough.
  • Contract entry & change orders are easy.
  • Drawing management, loads plans slowly.
  • Photos are very hard to manage and see what they are.
  • Would like to be able to delete a posted change order (instead of voiding only).

We use the CMiC Construction Platform across the whole organization. It has brought synergy to our business in collaboratively being able to better communicate and produce exceptional business results to our internal and external customers.
From a financial perspective, CMiC Construction Platform is very helpful to put the analytics in place to see at a glance the projections and actuals of the company's business. We do like the project management field side for our Engineers to be able to access drawings and make notable changes.
  • The budget process for jobs is exceptional at keeping track and modifying when needed.
  • The mobile feature is exceptional to use in tracking employees.
  • ECM utilization with drawing management is phenomenal at modifying updating and notating changes/comments.
  • Financial Position in the CMiC analytics is a helpful tool
  • Implementation
  • Importing documents: some of the templates are not functioning correctly
  • Security: too many areas and not one source for control

CMIC is used as a true ERP application across the entire enterprise, including financials, project controls, human capital management, enterprise content management, project management, field, and mobile.
CMIC provides a fully integrated ERP environment, such that labor costs automatically become available for billing, change orders issued by project management are automatically reflected in billing, as well as subcontractor request for payment.
  • Integration of disciplines across the enterprise.
  • Strong support for payroll, especially union payroll.
  • Wide variety of third-party applications, such as Kofax, DocuSign, Vertex tax, etc.
  • Reporting and analytics could be improved. We have had to develop all of our own.
  • Obtaining application support is cumbersome and time consuming.
  • Very limited web-based standard training and inline help assistance.

CMiC is being used across our whole organization. We build custom homes and we've found CMiC to be a great tool for our project management team to manage their jobs as well as our accounting team to work seamlessly between the two modules. We jumped in before we really knew what this software was capable of and before we really knew what we wanted. There's been a little bit of a learning curve over the last year, but we're very happy with it and still researching/implementing new modules, which is very exciting.
CMiC Construction Platform has worked great for managing our projects. We have the ability to input all issues, changes, and requests for information all within the same platform while managing to a budget. On the accounting side, we can input the invoices from images in uploaded into the system, send them to the Project Managers for coding, and immediately have the invoices adjust the budget by the way it was coded. It's real-time which is fabulous.

We have found that the drawing management isn't quite what we hoped it would be for markups on plans. However, I know there have been recent updates we have not taken advantage of that could have fixed all of this.
  • ECM (Enterprise Content Management) - Accounts Payable from invoice images that will remain in the system and is searchable in the future (NO MORE PAPER COPIES!)
  • Budget Management - All real-time
  • Easy on the eyes and user friendly
  • Drawing Management
  • MIP capabilities
  • Lien Waivers

We use CMiC across the enterprise which includes multiple brands. As part of our implementation, 4 years ago, we had a goal to eliminate all third-party applications within our organization. In doing so, we have moved all processes to CMiC. That said, we still have third-party applications such as Kofax, DocuSign, and FMW but we make the selections based on the ability to use them with and pull/push information to CMiC. This makes CMiC the source for all of our information.
CMiC Construction Platform does a good job with project management and job costing applications, but the deeper you get into the application the more you find the things it fails at. Email is a big item. The system has the ability to send and receive emails, which it does a good job at including the ability to customize the message body and to select the attachments to include, but the system has no notification process for failed emails. The mobile app is also a great tool that our field personnel love to use, but once again it does not have auto updates associated with the objects so we have found information is overwritten when one user forgets to refresh the screen with the latest RFIs or submittals.

We are 1 year into phase 1 of the implementation, which will include accounting and core project management related tasks. At this point, we have gone full cycle testing a few projects. CMiC has demonstrated the ability to minimize double entry across departments and generate accurate reports in real-time.
CMiC Construction Platform is better geared for a much larger organization with the manpower to take on the complex implementation and a large budget to support the heavy cost associated with the software, training, and project management services offered by CMiC. The high level of customization available throughout the software is a double-edged sword: on one hand, it is great to have a software meet your needs, while on the other it requires a high level of programming. As an organization with an employee count lower than 50, it has been difficult to take on the implementation. My recommendation for anyone choosing to move forward with CMiC is to ensure a team consisting of several employees is available to work on the implementation on a full-time basis for several months.
  • Reports
  • Customization
  • Integration
  • Requires a high level of programming
  • Hidden costs

We are transitioning to using CMiC across all platforms. It will be used for project management and documentation, payroll, and bidding.
The software seems to be a good fit for project management. It simplifies the process a lot by housing all functions in one software program. We had a tough time transitioning to this one software from the many other ones we used because there was a lot of information to transfer over, but once we have all of the information entered in it will be a big time saver and it will streamline our process.

My team and I use CMiC in our Project Delivery Services department. I mainly use the system as a way of having all submittals and change orders in a log format so they are easy to maintain and track. The whole company uses this software in various ways.
It is well suited because you can keep track of all your work and submittals. It can, however, be improved with more user-friendly/straightforward processes.
  • Easy to track items in logs.
  • Organized financial numbers in projects.
  • Access to multiple projects with the click of a button.
  • Workflow chart seems confusing.
  • There should be an easier way to edit some items.
  • There are too many steps for a simple task.

We use this platform every day throughout the company. It is a good platform, however, it does have some problems. We use our platform on the cloud. When you first open it, it is slow to respond, but after you use a module, it is faster. If there are problems, they tend to pop up out of nowhere. We can turn in tickets for a fix, but when the support team fixes a problem, they sometimes forget to include that fix on an upgrade. Now you have the same problem popping up again after an update/upgrade. When they do have a fix, it doesn't necessarily stay fixed. I find new problems pop up out of nowhere when it was working great at an earlier time. For the most part, it is a good platform, but the support team at CMiC must have good people over them that want to bring fixes to the platform. I think it is a problem if upper management isn't necessarily on board with wanting to try to get problems fixed or addressed.
I use the GL module, the AP module, the job costing module, the subcontracts module, the change order module, the job billing module, and the payroll module. The AP module is good to use, but when you have a list of items to distribute, the distribution module can be tricky. You have to gather all information together and enter just 1 item under a cost code or an account number. It will not allow you to enter 2 of the same item in the same transaction.
I have had the most trouble with the change order module. I will post change orders and then enter them onto the contract billing screen (SOV) and there are problems with this that just pop up. out of nowhere. It will be working great and then CMiC does an upgrade and now you have problems. The support team does not seem to verify what they are upgrading and how it will affect things. The payroll module is good, but they just did an upgrade and it changed how you see all the people's names in e-time. The other modules seem to work well.
  • Journal entries work well
  • AP module works well when adding vendors
  • Subcontract module works well
  • Things work well with all modules and then one day you use it and there is a problem. Sometimes it works itself out overnight, but some things need the support team's help in resolving the problem.
  • When you turn in a ticket to have something fixed, you must include screenshots to help the support team understand and see the problem. They have to recreate the problem and if they cannot, they cannot fix it.

We are using the Finance and Field packages. The entire company uses CMiC. I'm not really involved in the bigger picture...I use mainly the Finance package.
The nice part of using CMiC Construction Platform is that the PCIs are approved, confirmed, and posted for the Project Manager and client. The downside of this is if errors are found later, they can't be corrected easily. There are a few reports that I like, for example, job transaction report, job status report, job costing report. You create a subcontractor change order without using PCI, the issue is, it can't be billed properly.
  • I love the links between POs, Invoices, PCIs, Billing, etc.
  • It's good that changes are done in real-time and can be viewed by others immediately.
  • Queries can be moved to Excel.
  • The speed could be improved.
  • There is no report to show outstanding balances from our vendors--a comparison between AP and the PO.
  • Until invoices are posted in AP, the amounts of the invoices do not show as part of the % spent on a PO.
  • You should be able to run a report from Finance that would show invoices from Imaging and Finance that have not been entered or posted.

It is being used throughout our company. In the field (superintendent usage via tablet and laptop), in the office for project management, and on the financial side as well. It has become a one-stop-shop for management and finances so we are not using two different programs and trying to interface them correctly. It also interfaces with the field effectively and is a good information-sharing tool.
It would appear that CMiC Construction Platform is better suited for larger firms. It does take quite a long time to implement and the growing pains are vast. The technical glitches are all too frequent, and most of its little idiosyncrasies are frustrating to say the least. Again, it is a great communication and information sharing tool between site/office/subcontractors and consultants/designers.

  • Job cost forecasting/budget forecasting
  • Ball-in-court reminders
  • Invoice approval/coding
  • Cloud-based
  • Ease of inputting change orders/PCIs
  • Glitches need constant fixing
  • Remove fillable fields when not needed/used
  • Help boxes on windows
  • Not opening up new tabs/windows for everything in background
  • Shop drawing numbering is cumbersome at best. Ability to label as you want to would be better.

We are using it across the whole organization. It is great to have one system from start to finish for our projects. Information is entered once & is available to everyone that needs to see it. It is also great that we are working towards going paperless!
CMiC Construction Platform is great at handling all the different aspects of construction. It is capable of tracking all contracts, change orders, communications with owners, job reports, safety, etc.
It handles costs, payables, sub-contractors, payroll, and the list goes on & on.
  • Love the ability to scan into the system
  • Tracking costs in real-time for everyone to see
  • Setting up the system was painful.
  • Training needs to be more specific to the companies needs.

This purchase has been 50% of what we had hoped for. We definitely feel oversold. The product delivery was fraught with errors that took months to be resolved, causing our implementation to take 18 months. Since that time we have consistently found the support to be weak and extremely slow.

We chose to stay with CMiC purely because of the amount of time and effort put into the implementation with the hope that their R12 version being released in May 2020 would improve the ability for their team to support their clients. We participated in the beta testing and all training that was offered in preparation for the changes to come. The new version crippled us for 2 weeks. We still have numerous issues not resolved. They have tried to be helpful, however, what was implemented is not what we tested. We truly do not understand how this went into production.

We have stepped back to reevaluate the decision to stay with CMiC and have found that all our project teams and finance department have become inefficient. We have all found workarounds outside the software to remain in the construction business rather than problem-solving with CMiC. The cost involved for our staff to use this solution is not worth the price of the software.
The one positive thing we achieved by using this solution is real-time information between field, project controls, and accounting. This was a major reason we chose a full ERP. However, the software is simply too cumbersome to be effective. The number of steps it takes to create any document is too many. Other solutions do document creation with one-third the number of clicks it takes in CMiC.
  • Real-time information from field to finance
  • User interface needs to be simplified to speed up entry
  • Support has simply got to improve in all areas
  • Drag and drop functionality needs to be added to project controls
  • Emailing directly from the software and allowing for replies to be recorded is crucial
  • Ability to see your GL entries in bank reconciliations
  • Allowing one cheque per vendor when they are on numerous projects
  • Being able to see all invoices awaiting approval by Project Manager
  • GPS on time tracking app for people in the field

CMiC is being used by our Project Management team as well, as the Accounting team. Integration between Project Management and Accounting has been extremely helpful in tracking contracts and purchase orders so payments are not missed or overpaid. Estimating has not utilized it in its full capacity yet as distribution is likely more effective via email or other platforms.
Integration between accounting and project management is well suited to track contracts and purchase orders so that payments and invoices can be properly cross-referenced. Forecasting is also a great tool to aid in tracking projected profits and commitments already made through contracts and purchase orders. Timesheet entry is also a good tool to track and allocate costs.

Pitfalls of CMiC include information tracking modules like RFIs, submittals, and meeting minutes. Meeting minutes have certain bugs when entering notes. RFIs and submittals are more so for tracking and not distribution, as it is unlikely 3rd party users are going to jump on board with utilizing the software.
  • Integration between financials and Project Management
  • Time sheet entry
  • Project forecasting
  • Estimating missing functionality
  • Information distribution cannot replace email
  • Templating

The entire organization uses CMiC, from the Architects to the accountants and even our HR uses it to track work hours. It streamlines all of our processes and saves us time every day!
The RFI and Submittal sections, as well as the communications sections, of CMiC Construction Platform streamline many of the processes that can become arduous just to track each of the three. We use it to track responses and keep a record simultaneously.
  • It manages the flow of RFIs and Submittals, keeps them organized as to due date, ball in court, and can be used as a database searching whichever parameter you wish.
  • Communication between the owner, contractor, and architect can be kept on record effortlessly.
  • It creates data charts and exports to Excel easily with little formatting needed once exported.
  • It could be compatible with Newforma.
  • If it could recognize a repeat RFI or overlapping information.
  • If it linked to my Revit model.
