It is used across our whole organization. Used to manage the day to day operations of our projects such as: daily job logs, RFIs, submittals, and drawing distribution. It really helps keep everyone up to date on all documents concerning our jobs.
It is a good product overall for most day to day activities. Could use a better user interface and cleaner project management abilities.
  • Integrated timekeeping
  • Tracking submittals
  • Daily journal
  • Tracking job budget (Not very easy to keep updated)
  • Tracking job correspondence (Should be able to add email tracking for important items).
  • Tracking job schedule (Need a way to integrate schedule tracking into UI).

CMIC is used across our accounting and field operations. CMIC was software of choice due to the accounting link to the construction management side, which eliminates double entry for accounting. However, the construction management side is extremely lacking and requires double entry for the field operations side of the company.
CMIC is not user friendly, even with new roll out it is still light years behind some of the other construction management web based software's out there. First - Drawings upload process is through another software and it does not load properly to help with a drawing log or submittal procurement log. Once drawings are uploaded they are not an interactive area. I feel it is extremely important to link submittals, RFI's, and observations to the plans. I also believe uploading ASI should be an easy task and be emailed directly from CMIC to all subcontractors. I beleive it to be extremely important for any person involved in the project has one, and one location only to get the most current and update information on the project.
  • Accounting and budget would be the only strength I see.
  • Submittals - Platform is not friendly, should have autofill instead of looking up everything. The ball in court is confusing. Should be able to markup submittals from within CMIC, stamp and send to architect for response.
  • RFI - you should be able to create a revision, again, not friendly, please look at Procore platform and try to go after what they are doing.
  • Meeting Minutes are complicated, cannot send them out from CMIC.
  • Drawings are not a tab only a document. Drawings should be able to be marked up and have items linked and once published everyone should be able to see it.

As a small, commercial Construction Manager and General Contractor, the CMiC Construction Platform is being implemented by most of our whole organization. We have in house I.T., accounting, contract administration, and construction project teams. We currently use CMiC as part of our construction project teams management of our projects.

Using CMiC to help administer our projects allows the office and field to consistently be on the same page. Daily information is being constantly updated and it helps keep the flow of information in one, reliable place. In an industry that's almost gone paperless, it's key to keep all the project information in an online file that can be accessed by all members of the project team.
Whether it's in the field, or in the office, the CMiC Construction Platform is well suited for daily project management of construction projects. From a project inception, to project closeout, the tools and modules available will help keep your project running smoothly. All aspects of the construction process can be tracked and accessed for real time information.

CMiC is a very robust program and we haven't explored all of the modules that are available to us at this point.

We have recently implemented CMiC Construction Platform across our entire organization for all aspects of project management, finance, and payroll. We wanted to find software that could incorporate more functions so that we could consolidate the number of programs being used and CMiC was the right fit for this.
We previously had issues with information not being transferred across the various software platforms that we used, which meant that we had to duplicate work. A minor example is the CRM needs that we have from sales and estimating to project management. Simple address changes had to be entered in at least three different databases and this increased the likelihood of silly errors.
  • It integrates many aspects of project management into one location.
  • It produces easy to understand reports that incorporate financial aspects of the project so that costs and profit can be calculated in real-time rather than as a lagging indicator.
  • Document management is housed within the project, reducing the number of locations and the need for additional cloud storage to maintain project documentation.
  • CMiC customer assistance is prompt and helpful.
  • We are new to CMiC and the setup was a little difficult for us. It would be helpful to know what kind of information we need to input prior to a live training session so that we have real data to use.
  • Our initial implementor seemed lost because of the software version update. Better communication from CMiC to the vendors who sell it in the US may be a good idea.
  • All of our training sessions are done remotely, which can be tedious and difficult to follow when the sessions are so long. Less than four hours may help the information be absorbed--maybe 2-hour long training sessions over a greater number of days.

Our company is currently transitioning to CMiC for both accounting and field construction management. I am part of a group within the company helping implement this transition. This transition is across the whole company. I am focused on the field side. We are primarily looking for CMiC to replace PlanGrid and Submittal Exchange as well as document management for projects. The change was largely driven by increased costs in both of those programs. We have rolled out some parts of the program already such as Drawing management, checklists, use of the mobile app. We are currently working on rolling out RFIs, submittals, daily logs, possible meeting minutes. Another group within my company is handling the Enterprise portion of the software.
The platform has a lot of potential but using it is cumbersome and frustrating. We currently have several issues with the drawing management portion of the program. People in our organization are not happy with the transition away from PlanGrid because CMiC lacks features they are used to. Complaints include:

  1. Slow loading speed.
  2. Lack of ability to search the text of the drawings.
  3. Thumbnail view on the web client does not display sheet numbers.
  4. Mobile drawing markup tool does not allow "sketching". Each time the finger comes off the table it assumes the user is done. Unless its a continuous line, it makes sketching on the tablet on a drawing sheet near impossible.
  5. The web client drawing search function rest every time you click into and back out of drawings, forcing the user to redo the search each time.
  6. The drawing upload process also lacks the features of Plan Grid, such as changing the sheet revision order or batch change of revision name.
  7. OCR is poured and the CMiC Explorer is buggy, and often does not complete a proper upload.
  8. The revision recognition function does work not properly, it does not apply existing sheet titles. In fact, it overrides exiting sheet titles while simultaneously locking the user out of changing the new titles which are often full of errors due to poor OCR. Forcing the user to do double work to work around this.

I have personally submitted several support cases. These have come back with statements of CMiC being aware of the issue and hoping to fix them on a future patch.
  • Photo management is done well and our field finds it easier than our old system.
  • Missing functionality on the drawing management side. See previous question.
  • Submittal module changes in R12 took away key functionality from the user. Specifically the Fabrication and Delivery fields. CMiC promises to bring this back but the process is too slow. Users have waited months to bring back functionality that was taken away.
  • Submittal module interface via collaborator and I/O email is not updating status correctly.
  • The mobile app does not allow users to change auto-generated checklist names. We have a checklist that is supposed to be used per room but the program auto-generates list names as ###-001, ###-002, etc. In the mobile app, there is no way to see a unique identifier in the list view so users have to open and close each record to find unique identifiers. There is a workaround with the web client but our field employees say its too cumbersome. They are abandoning using the web client checklists and going back to paper copies.
  • Specification extraction does not work.

It is being used for document viewing, checklist completing, and photo documentation. Department-wide. It addresses the business problem of having multiple different software programs being used. The goal of CMiC within our company is to integrate all processes and have a one-stop application that handles all tasks required for the project.
For our company, CMiC is beneficial for the different checklists we do: safety audits, SWPPP audits, toolbox talks, etc. This way, the platform is the admin for us, instead of us needing an employee to collect and publish the individual checklists for each job. Also, the platform is good for storing photos.

Every employee whether in the central office or in the field uses CMiC. We utilize the Field side with our field team, and our office staff uses mostly the enterprise/professional side. Every aspect of the job is contained in CMiC, including design, pre-construction, construction, and all financials.
Some of our field staff have a hard time effectively using CMiC. It does not seem to always be the most user-friendly and has a semi-steep learning curve. Our office staff who use it every day constantly know it is powerful software, but the field is usually put off by the UI or redundancy we have to implement to make sure everything is contained within CMiC.
  • Job Billing customization
  • Financial Queries
  • Financial Reporting
  • New R12 Menus in Field side do not sort correctly
  • Version updates
  • Prepare Billing Module often does not sync well with other parts of CMiC it pulls data from

We use CMiC for our enter company. Every department uses the platform and it is how we collaborate inter-departmentally. I use it for accounting. The project teams use it to document project progress. Human resources uses it. It is a great way to keep all communications and information related to the business in one place.
I think it is helpful for streamlining in that it's one system for everything. In my last job, there was a different program for each and every thing we did and it was very inefficient and cumbersome. Having only been using it for the past 5 months, I would say that it is not the easiest software to learn and can be glitchy.
  • Keeps all information relating to projects and the company in one place.
  • There are many features that give you options to customize your needs.
  • We use the cloud, so I can access information from anywhere.
  • We've had issues with the R12 update and costs that we manually defer still being billed when recalculating the bill.
  • If you have multiple windows open, it will send a reply in an issue to the job open in another window you're not working in.
  • With R12, you cannot sort by date.

CMiC is being used across our whole organization. It addresses a number of problems including accounting for our books, digital records, and team collaboration.
CMiC is well suited for having both the Enterprise and the Field sides. A lot of times, companies have to outsource or use a separate program for managing financials, but CMiC allows both financials and field activity to be all together in one program.
  • Has both an accounting and project/field collaboration aspect all in one software.
  • Layout is easy to follow and modern.
  • Sorting Error. - Instead of sorting by date (month, day, year), its sorting option makes 0 sense. It makes a simple task take longer just because you are sorting through hundreds of lines to find the right item instead of just being able to sort through columns correctly.
  • Lagging - Pressing any button in the billing module takes 10 seconds+ to load, which s very frustrating in the day in the age of 0.65 secs average loading time for websites.
  • Reports - Sometimes reports don't display everything you need for something specific. The Export to Excel option is a great tool provided by CMiC! I would only suggest that the "Export to Excel" button have a standard CMiC table layout when exported. That way when any employee Exports an excel to create a custom report there is always a standard template being created instead of employees having to create and customize a new one every time.

CMiC Construction Platform is being used by our entire organization. We use the cloud-based software version which makes multiple streams of communication spread smoothly throughout the project team in the field to corporate and management. Having the whole organization use one software prevents information from being lost and promotes teamwork.
CMiC Construction Platform is well suited for project management and collaboration with multiple team members on a project. Multiple people are able to collaborate on a document or discussion. In addition levels of approval can be designated for different processes in order to have appropriate checks and balances. I cannot think of a scenario where CMiC Construction Platform is less appropriate.

It is being used across the entire organization from Accounting to Payroll to Project Management. It helps keep the organization structured and on the same platform to easily access data.
I would recommend CMiC, however, it has a lot of glitches and is not always reliable. The system is sometimes down and support fails to acknowledge this. Also, there is limited user support available online. It would be nice to have more information and training available. It is hard to set up, however, once established, it is good to use and maintain.

We use it across our whole organization which includes our home office, as well as each of our remote project sites. We do include architect's and engineer's as collaborative users, when they have the ability, but do not include any of our subcontractors. We use the Site Management tools including Daily Journals, Progress Meetings, Issues, RFI's, and Safety Inspections. We also use it for submittals and budget and cost management. It has improved our accounting process from the system we used prior. The accounting side has been good to work with. The main purpose of getting CMiC for us was for site management to replace a system that was no longer being supported. Unfortunately, we were sold a product that did not function as described 3 years ago. We have had a lot of issues with the mobile platform, which is what we needed and wanted most. We have operated for the last 3 years without it and are just now starting to implement it to some project teams after the latest release. Some of the features are good, some are not. Overall I have not been super-impressed compared to other products out there. CMiC is trying to capture all aspects of a project-management tool but is not really great at any of them, other than the accounting side.
CMiC is well-suited for accounting. That system works well for us and it is obvious that CMiC started as an accounting software but has tried adding other modules to create an overall project management tool. The mobile platform is far from acceptable, which is what we wanted/needed from the beginning. 3 years in and we are just starting to implement it to some project teams after the latest release. For our purposes, the scheduling module is too light and does not work for what we require in a schedule. It may be a good tool for some, but we must rely on other software to meet our needs.
  • Accounting
  • Keeping remote teams up to date
  • The mobile platform.
  • The new release needs streamlining. Visually it is ugly and I actually prefer the old version.
  • The schedule module is not robust enough to consider for our needs.

CMIC is used across our whole company, from accounting to job site supervisors.
Well suited for LARGE contractors. Very expensive for smaller businesses.
  • Accounts payable image workflow is nice once in place.
  • The ability to export to Excel just about any screen of data is very useful.
  • Pretty easy to "pickup" without a ton of training.
  • Support is REALLY frustrating!
  • On any given day, usually following an update, the system has some serious consistency and accuracy issues.
  • Expensive and they hit you with all kinds of nickel and dime add-ons.

We use CMiC across the whole organization. Superintendents use it for their daily reports and for approving pay applications that are submitted by Collaborative subcontractors. Project Managers use it to write contracts and change orders and also to approve invoices and pay requests. All of this makes it easy for the accounting department to just select the invoices to be paid. There's not a lot of double-entry of work after approvals because the field module and financials all talk to each other.
CMiC is great if you need an all-in-one software solution that allows your folks in the field and what they do in the software to directly impact what's going on with accounting. We ran trials of other field solutions and they were probably better at what they did but required invoice approvals to be re-entered once received by accounting in another piece of software.
  • Same database of information between field and financials
  • No need to import/export information from one side to the other
  • Allows subcontracts to bill for themselves
  • Reduces double-entry of work
  • Cloud software is clunky and sometimes slow or offline
  • Too many options in many places, not enough in others
  • Tries to do too many things, but does few of them well

We use it as a construction database for our field and office use. We use it to manage our job sites and stay organized with daily logs, submittals, journals, etc. It is used throughout the entire company from the executive team to the office to the field team. It is a helpful way to stay organized and keep accountability for each subcontractor. In construction, organization is key and CMiC is helpful for this.
CMiC Construction Platform is well suited for organization in each project and keeps things such as submittals and RFI and change orders intact. Some issues are with the daily journal and the camera feature, and logging things in is not always easy. Also, the mobile field app does not always work correctly or sometimes does not work at all. There seem to be a lot of bugs that need to be worked out still.
  • Organization
  • Database is user friendly
  • Submittals and RFI log is easy to use

We have rolled out CMiC in phases. We are currently using it across the whole organization, handling all aspects of financial, project management, business development, e-time, and field. I personally use the field, e-time, enterprise modules. It is nice to have one software platform that covers every aspect of what we do on a day-to-day basis.
CMiC has been great in integrating the different groups in our company. There is a seamless collaboration between the financial side and the operations side. I'd say that has been the best part. There have been some issues though. The document management feature has been clunky and not efficient. Although I understand this is corrected in the R13 version coming out very soon.
  • Collaboration: Uniting all of the groups in one software platform instead of multiple different software programs.
  • Ease of Use: CMiC is user-friendly and easy to navigate.
  • Customization: It is easy to get logs or templates how you want to see or present them. Fully customizable.
  • Document Control: Not best in class, slow.
  • Reporting Financials: There is a learning curve here. It takes time to understand what information needs to be reported and what doesn't.
  • There are some little glitches like forecast freezing and needing to be reopened to continue.

CMiC is being used by our Accounting team to manage our entire financial portfolio. Our Project Management team (myself included) uses CMiC for all financials relating to our specific projects (i.e budget, forecasting, change orders, etc).
It is well suited for financials, change orders, budget uploads, and reports. It is not so great for submittals and RFIs (our company has now switched to Procore for those elements of the project).
  • Reports: Mainly change order reports, this is great to present to our clients on a weekly basis.
  • Budget upload and ease of transferring costs from one cost code to another.
  • Forecasting: the monthly cost report never matches the forecasting, and it is very difficult to figure out where you went wrong in your forecasting to correct these errors.
  • Once you enter a change order field (i.e 91002), if you entered any wrong information while "adding a new" change order type, you cannot go back and correct it.

We use CMiC Construction Platform across our entire company. It is used for our everyday construction management field and office employees to store and distribute construction documents such as drawings, submittals, shop drawings, contact lists, and site management and logs. We also input our working hours for each project on to CMiC to track time.
CMiC Construction Platform is well suited for our company because it makes document storing, sharing, and organizing much easier between the project management team in the office and on construction sites. For example, if there are 500 submittals for a project, CMiC makes it easy to organize and sort through all documents stored and look back at previous documents from a project that could have been months or years past.
  • Organizing documents
  • Sharing documents
  • Allocating resources
  • Project directory could be made more simple to navigate and find projects.
  • CMiC Field Menu tab could be made more user friendly. Drop-down tabs can be difficult to navigate and glitch when multiple tabs are open sometimes.
  • A more user-friendly mobile app would be very useful for phones and tablets. The mobile version can be confusing and hard to use especially when trying to do simple tasks like update logs for daily site use.

CMiC is used widely throughout the company. The different modules are used in different departments. My familiarity is with "Field" used by project managers & some site superintendents and with e-time entry. I have never used the Financial Modules.

The Field Module serves to consolidate information and facilitate communication between stakeholders. The E-Time Module is used to enter hours worked per project.
  • E-Time Entry allows a simple task to be performed, with data entry possible by approved stakeholders.
  • Field provides a platform to share communication with all approved stakeholders. Access can be limited as appropriate. There is a lot of flexibility to use a large number of modules within Field.
  • It is possible to share the information via email with a pre-approved user list.
  • The application is not always intuitive. I would recommend an on-line user guide and potentially an on-line training module.
  • E-Time Entry should open to the current date, rather than have an extra step to select the current date.
  • "Field," if it does not already have the capability, should allow "Project Users" (my sub-trades) to access selected aspects of the module, rather than just receive emails about the activity.
  • "Field" allows a user to enter RFIs. When entering the question, it should be possible to paste an image (.jpg, PDF, etc.) into the body of the question.
  • "Field" should have a feature to automatically follow up on "unanswered questions", with the follow-up date selectable.
CMiC Construction Platform is a reasonably good solution to track project activity if used diligently by stakeholders. Unfortunately, each project team and team member has different commitment levels and different skill levels.

Part of the difficulty is that in the construction industry there are so many stakeholders from different companies that they do not all have access to the platform and not all are technically limited.

We're using it across the whole organization both in the office and in the field. We went with CMiC since it addresses both our PM and our Accounting sides.
  • Plan management/updating.
  • Crossover of info from PM to Accounting side.
  • In field app.
  • Customization of reports.
  • Mass deleting for items.
  • More continuity between screens.
We are cloud-based with CMiC which we are learning to like, but with that being said, we also always have this worry in the back of our mind that all our data is not on site and could be lost.

We primarily use CMiC Construction Platform for budget and cost management on the project side and particularly value how those modules are linked with accounting. Basically everyone in the office uses it for those two overarching purposes. I know for the PMs, we use it to generate subcontracts and change orders, pay applications, and project forecasting. Field staff is limited to invoice approvals and daily reports.
  • Direct link between project management and accounting
  • Report functions (subcontracts, change orders, pay apps, etc.)
  • Cost Status Query provides excellent overview of projects
  • Cost & accounting are great, but other PM functions are lacking (document controls, daily reports, etc)
  • Last I checked the mobile app isn't there yet
Cost and accounting are great for the CMiC Construction Platform. Other project management functions are not so great. It could be more user friendly.

CMiC is being used across our organization.

Pros:
-redundancy of data entry
-chance of errors
-inter-department communication
-produces timely reports
-standardizes our procedures

Cons:
-most things are pretty easy to learn, however there are certain parts of the system that are not intuative
-not all error messages are clear
-a lot of the reports that we need to create/alter cannot be done using MIP, and it can be quite costly, and the turn around time is very slow

Despite the cons, I would still give CMiC a 7.5/10. All ERP systems will have their drawbacks, the important thing is that the positives outweigh the negatives, and I believe CMiC easily does that.
  • Tracks Financial Health
  • Fully integrates Finance and Project Delivery
  • Allows for collaboration through IO email with Third Parties
  • Reduces data entry
  • Adds the perfect level of controls
  • Issues can take some time to be fixed
  • Customization can be expensive
  • Not user "friendly" - takes time to learn
  • Error messages are not always clear
It meets the majority of our needs. It works best on larger projects, where the full breadth of CMiC can be utilized properly. On shorter projects it can seem more time consuming than beneficial fully utilizing everything CMiC has to offer.

It also works best it you have a dedicated CMiC team to help roll out and support users.

The whole company uses it from business development, finance, estimating, project delivery services to field services. It ensures current info is available to all depts and duplication is avoided. It also avoids costly printing and delivery to construction sites. Being able to respond to client requests for information is also much easier.
  • Easy to navigate interface.
  • Detailed breakdown of categories.
  • Many available forms to start with.
  • Allow users to adjust printable layout.
Great for CM firms to aid in the execution of projects no matter what the size.

My company uses CMiC for all its project management. This includes storing, saving, and editing/red-lining plans. Budget and production tracking. Entering and storing vehicle inspections, daily journals, meeting notes, and visitor logs. The company is also looking to switch from our current payroll system to the CMiC payroll system in order to combine as many operations into one system as possible.
  • Mobile App has a great UI
  • Web client is easy to use.
  • Forms can be created for any specific needs you might have.
  • Mobile app has issues connecting sometimes
  • No ability to use offline then upload when connection returns.
  • Limited number of drawings can be viewed on mobile app without searching.
If an entire project is being planned and tracked with CMiC Construction Platform, it works well to keep everything all in one place.

If multiple programs or software are used, I don't think CMiC is the best at working with other software such as Excel.
