We use CMiC to manage the construction documents for all of our projects. This includes financial modules for billing clients and paying sub-trades. We manage the additional cost impact through the enterprise module, which affects the financial module keeping all costs in line. We use the platform across the whole organization, connecting our Projects Department and our Financial Department. This helps us ensure costs are updated in real-time and prevents confusion between the two departments. We also use the system with our field operations—documents are added as they are received and our Field Team is able to stay up to date with real-time information.

  • Invoicing.
  • Contract management.
  • Change records management.
  • Document management.
CMiC is well suited for companies that have can integrate multiple departments with it. For example, we do not have to share cost status with our financial department—they have real-time access to it. This ensures that departments are retrieving real-time information and prevents a lag or misinformation between departments. CMiC would not be suitable for an organization that does not heavily depend on project management, with cost and document management being crucial parts of the business. For a financial-only company, CMiC has a very simple system and is not the best when creating reports for finances.

  • Increased cost management.
  • Better document tracking.
  • Good record keeping.
Naturally, we have not used other platforms to their fullest. As such, we have limited comparison. Procore has a ratheR robust collaborative experience and document management. However, it lacks financial integration like CMiC. We choose CMiC as it seems like a complete package and addresses our needs. Other platforms have good document tracking, communications, etc. but they lack in the integration of finances.

We use CMiC for project management, time management, and accounts management. Our projects team uses the system to track paperwork, pricing, purchase orders, drawings and etc on a daily basis. Our site personnel use the system to log hours and retrieve documents. Our accounting uses the system for invoicing clients and trcking sub trade invoices as well as preparing payments for the vendors.

Skills required are training only. Person needs to know where to go for what and needs to know the process the company has set. The system itself is not complicated and buttons/sections are easy to find.

CMiC has major issues with their coding test runs before they go live. As such, the Support Team only knows about the issue when reported, but does not know how to fix it. It is a repeated issue, especially on small updates. Something working well will suddenly stop working and the support will have no idea. They can provide some solutions but more often than not, they need the coding team to comment.

We are a commercial construction company doing business in all of the western states. We use CMiC for our accounting, payroll, project management, and field. Before switching to CMiC we struggled with being able to connect with our guys in the field and being able to access our data from outside the office. With CMiC Cloud it has given us the ability to access our data from wherever we are. We constantly struggled with our field being able to see the latest information. CMiC Field has given them access to see the latest data and also easily submit daily journals and various reports.
  • CMiC has really good customer service
  • CMiC is constantly trying to evolve to meet the new and everyday needs
  • Willingness to collaborate with users on how they can improve
  • They provide a wide array of useful tools
  • The ability through the cloud to work from anywhere
  • Depending on what module you are in, there are a lot of issues with continuity. It appears that each screen was designed by a different programmer and there wasn't a basic structure to follow. The save button on one screen is at the top and on another it is on the bottom. Then on other screens the save button is called "process". Also on most date entry fields, you can enter the date as MMDDYY but on others, you have to do YYYY-MM-DD. I would really like them to make things consistent through all of the modules. It makes training new employees more difficult when there isn't consistency.
  • I’m hoping this has been fixed with the new CMiC Connect App but but mobile field in the past has been very glitchy. Every time there has been an update to the apps our employees and subcontractors have had to delete and uninstall the app. This has caused a lot of frustration and an unwillingness to use the app.
CMiC Construction Platform works great as an all-in-one solution. However, due to the fact that CMiC can do so many things well other programs that specialize in just one thing are oftentimes a little cleaner or more polished. The thing that has helped our company the most is being connected to the cloud. We are able to work from home, on the road, or in the field. Our connectivity with our field superintendents has never been better. They are able to see updated sub-lists, submittals, RFIs in real-time, not needing to rely on the project managers to either print or email the documents to them. For the price, there isn't a better all-in-one solution on the market.

  • We are more connected as a company
  • Forecasting has become much easier and allowed us to better track the performance of each job.
We were with our previous Construction Platform for more than 20 years. The deciding factor for us to look for a new solution was their lack of customer service. We looked at several options before deciding on CMiC. Most that we looked at were not all-inclusive, having great project management tools but they didn't have an accounting platform. CMiC has done a great job in bringing some of the tools that we were wanting in a project management software while offering accounting. This saves our company a lot of time and resources not having to double enter change orders from project management to accounting.

Product features and price are very important in making this decision but the key factor in us switching was support and customer service.
If we had to do it again I think we would make the same decision again.

The first phase when we went live was Job Costing, Job Billing and Project Management. Phase 2 was payroll.

The biggest thing we learned was set a schedule and stick to it.
  • Online Training
  • In-Person Training
  • No Training
Before we began the process we flew to Toronto to meet with the CMiC team in person. The Majority of our training was done online.
I felt the training was good and the trainers knew the software.
There have been certain features of CMiC that we have been able to implement by using their online resources. However, CMiC is very robust and requires a lot of set. I would not recommend trying to go through implementation without training.
For the most part CMiC can be configured to meet your needs. However, it comes with a cost.
No.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
No - we have not done any custom code
No
No we have not. I have never heard of “Premium Support”.
Yes
The support team is really good and solving problems when it is a set up issue and we are missing a check mark. However whenever an issue gets sent to programming we never hear back.
A couple weeks ago I was having an issue with some invoices showing up. I sent in a ticket trying to explain the issue and immediately Melanie asked if we could set up a conference call so she could see and understand what I needed. Also after Steve’s session at Connect he showed us about Auto Cold Storage. I read through all of the CMiC Assist Articles and still have some questions. I sent in a ticket for additional information and Jordan instantly asked if we could schedule a call so he can help walk me through the set up.
Like in every company some employees are better at helping customers than others but CMiC as a company cares for their customers and tries to help and resolve their issues and concerns. The biggest frustration is when tickets get sent to programming. There is never any follow up and it is hard to get a status update on those tickets.

The mobile app when working is great. Every couple months the app crashes requiring you to have to delete and reinstall the app.
Once you know the system it works well but is hard to just sit down and begin working in the system.
CMiC has several key features that can either work together or independently depending on your companies needs.
Sometimes since this is a cloud based product the system can become slow but we haven’t had any issues of availability without CMiC first letting us know it would be down.
Reports are pretty shown to run but general pages typically load pretty quick.

Someone who is tech savvy. Such as a Business Analyst with a touch of System Administrator background. The level of support provided needs to be interpreted from CMiC to management. And visa versa. When a system needs enhancing or changed, the BA would need to quantify the distinctness of the change and find means to. All while making sure accounting and field users are still doing their daily jobs.
  • Field Reporting to PM's
  • Accounting to PM and visa versa (invoices)
  • Plan Production to Project Engineers (drawings)
  • PM's to upper management (tracking of finances)
  • Simplicity (removing unnecessary items)
  • UX
  • Enhancing the Mobile App
This is a platform that would continue to be in the best interest for our company. I just hope that CMiC support removes the gaps between the enhancements that they create to better the system to what they currently have.
Yes
ICPM. This was a mom and pop manufactured online service. When I came on board it was either CMiC or Procore.

  • Product Usability
Product features include an all around function between everyone. From field, to management, to accounting, to upper management. Usability in that you can use the product on most devices was another key component of the decision.
Don't get over hyped about their mobile field application......just yet. It's not there to be used reliably on a daily basis...... YET.
  • Implemented in-house
Yes
We had a particular unique case where we had to implement in random order than the normal roll out of the product. Because we needed the field side of the house completed first, then accounting, drew a lot of complexity in the implementation.
Change management was minimal

Within six month, I was able to learn the system, apply the necessary changes and get this company onto the CMiC platform without missing a beat.
We are on the cloud and therefor a small tiny fish in a big pond of other fishes that have their own issues and problems.
Yes
I had bugs from the time we started 3 years ago. Most of our issues are mobile application related. To which they had to reconstruct the whole application from the ground up. So the level of confidence that a freshly constructed application would work out of the box, is not plausible. It's now a matter of when they are able to fix the application to meet the needs of today's use.
Mary Jo was our account representative. She would fight for our support tickets to be looked at and be resolved. We miss her.
They need to work on expectations. When enhancing a module, they have been known to deliver gaps between the new enhancement and the old one. The support is no longer available as they direct their full attention on the enhancement part while leaving the gap in between those projects empty. This causes issues and discrepancies.

Yes
Yes, but it doesn't work. Well sort of. They had to reconstruct the application from the ground up. To expect the application to work right out of the box for how CMiC mobile application division would be an outright miracle. They don't meet expectations and sell on functionality that is years away from being manufactured.
It is a very easy to use system. When you remove all the additional fluff that other cloud based companies use, and simplify the user's experience, the platform works exceptionally well.

We use the CMiC Construction Platform across the whole organization. It has brought synergy to our business in collaboratively being able to better communicate and produce exceptional business results to our internal and external customers.
From a financial perspective, CMiC Construction Platform is very helpful to put the analytics in place to see at a glance the projections and actuals of the company's business. We do like the project management field side for our Engineers to be able to access drawings and make notable changes.
  • The budget process for jobs is exceptional at keeping track and modifying when needed.
  • The mobile feature is exceptional to use in tracking employees.
  • ECM utilization with drawing management is phenomenal at modifying updating and notating changes/comments.
  • Financial Position in the CMiC analytics is a helpful tool
  • Implementation
  • Importing documents: some of the templates are not functioning correctly
  • Security: too many areas and not one source for control

  • Improved workflow
  • Better project management

  • Streamlined Financials
CMiC was more robust and met more of our needs in comparison to Foundation Software;
Could be a little better at updating information on the help site.

Asking more questions regarding the implementation as there was some confusion.

Change management was a minor issue with the implementation
All was great with exception of security user maintenance and setup.

Lots of confusion between sales and implementation regarding what was included and not included...the security encountered a "bug" and made it extremely difficult to set up roles and individual responsibilities.

Security issue that is currently being worked out
I was disgruntled about a "training session" as it produced nothing but errors without the trainer being able to resolve. I contacted the Sales, Implementation Manager and the VP came in on the call to help provide a team of experts that could and did resolve the problems.
