Complete Endpoint Protection: The complete endpoint protection provided by the product has been highly appreciated by users. Many reviewers highlighted how this feature is superior to relying on users to manually back up data, ensuring that important files are always protected.

Cloud Backup with Mobile Access: Users have praised the benefits of cloud backup offered by the product. They appreciate being able to back up their data even when they are out of the office, as well as having the convenience of accessing their files through a mobile app.

Cons:

  1. Java-based Program: Users have expressed dissatisfaction with the Code42 program being Java-based, citing increased resource usage, stability issues, and a clunky interface as drawbacks. Some users have reported crashes in the Java front end of the desktop program, requiring them to restart the service or their computer for resolution.
  2. Price and Trust Concerns: Several users have mentioned that they find Code42 to be more expensive compared to other backup services like Backblaze. The discontinuation of consumer options and the removal of the ability to back up to a remote machine on a different network have damaged trust between Code42 and its clients.
  3. Lacking Technical Support: The technical support provided by Code42 has been criticized for being lacking, with unclear support ticketing processes and limited phone support hours. Some users have expressed frustration with the level of assistance received when encountering issues with the software.

  1. Users suggest comparing CrashPlan to competitors to ensure better value and carefully evaluating their needs before making a decision. They advise considering alternatives like Backblaze and rsync before finalizing the choice.

  2. CrashPlan's excellent support is highly recommended. Users suggest speaking with current Code42 users to gain insights into different use cases and understand how the product is utilized by other companies.

  3. Users recommend implementing CrashPlan as soon as possible, especially for managing both Windows and Linux servers. They find CrashPlan to be a reliable and stable backup solution, making it suitable for both personal and business use.

These recommendations emphasize the importance of thorough evaluation, seeking opinions from other users, and taking advantage of CrashPlan's support for a successful implementation process.

  • CrashPlan has been very effective in mitigating ransomware attacks. Since it keeps versioning of files you can simply restore from the web console and avoid ransomware attacks.
  • There have been instances where hard drive failures recovery would cost more to send out for third party repair compared to just restoring the archive from a storage server and using a new drive.

  • We were using iDrive for the central office backup. With the amount of data we were using monthly the upgraded plan would have cost us as much as the entire install of Crashplan.
  • Getting a backup solution for our remote users was a very high priority. We paid for the dedicated engineer to help with the install. This saved a lot of time researching or hunting information for the install. It paid for itself is saved time for our IT department.

  • CrashPlan reduced my TCO on endpoint protection by ~30%.
  • We did not previously have centralized endpoint management, so we have gained that huge feature that has allowed us to scale without adding more sys admin staff.

  • I cannot give a dollar amount. I can say it has saved us alot of time and energy for using the backed up data for many of our employees. It has saved a few employees' jobs, for example, a computer crashing or virus infection that we were able to bring back their information and saved data.

  • Since we moved to Crash Plan, our faith in believing that our backups are available and recoverable has been proved time and time again. Previous products we had we often lead us to believe our backups were available but when we would try to access them we would find that they did not truly exist or were corrupt
  • We started with hosting the backup environment ourselves and slowly moved to a mixed model with having multiple destinations thereby increasing our data protection and reducing our storage costs by limiting how much we keep internal versus external
  • Having a way to track clients machines from within the console has helped us track down those stray computers we find are missing but are still communicating back to our backup system, thereby assisting us with recovery

  • There has only been positive impacts. Being able to quickly migrate users from crashed hardware (laptops & desktops) is extremely time efficient.
  • We have probably made our money back from the man hours saved from restore files and migration within the first 3 months.
  • Very easy admin console so currently admins being trained for the position has saved time and effort.

  • Easy to deploy and manage, means less tech time with individual users handling individual backup subscriptions
  • Per seat, not per GB billing = better budget management
  • Multiple devices per seat = less users eating up multiple licenses

  • The licensing cost is negligible on our budget, but the return and peace of mind is significant. It has already saved our butts against ransomware viruses and we've lost data in natural disasters before - now we're prepared if it happens again!

  • Users feel more secure knowing that their machine is getting backed up and that these files are easily available to them in case of emergencies.
  • CrashPlan also makes deploying new computers to users a snap, as the end users can restore their own files.
