We mainly used this to protect data from an old Nas platform. We then we’re also able to present that data as a view through Cohesity. It was nice to be able to protect and present this data. We have also looked into protecting the rest of our environment because this is capable of doing so.
  • Easy GUI
  • Cheap
  • Next Gen design
  • Stability
  • Years of experience
  • Support
This is great to use in the way that we use it by protecting and providing Nas. This is also a good option for someone that needs to protect their whole environment but they don’t want multiple products and complexities. Lastly, this was a pretty good price and plays well with a lot of other products.

Cohesity has been a great addition to our organization as a backup solution. We have been using it for the last 5 years now, and it is being used for backing up AWS instances, on-prem servers, and NAS shares. Using Cohesity is fairly easy since all configurations can be done from the GUI. However, at the same time, it is still not fully mature, and every now and then, we do face issues where we have to work with the support and development team to resolve them.
  • Cohesity is very easy to use.
  • Cohesity is versatile, we can backup all type of environment.
  • Cohesity is very flexible, it can very easy deployed in any region.
  • The support quality can be improved.
  • The tool is still not mature, so we end up doing a lot of troubleshooting.
  • The turnaround time for resolving an issue should be improved.
Cohesity is an all-rounder as a tool for an organization's backup requirements. Due to its versatility, we use it for backing up our on-prem and AWS servers, and it works well. The price point is also on the lower side, so that is also a plus point. Configuring the backup of instances is fairly easy and straightforward. We have approx. 2000 instances are currently being backed up, and we don't face any challenges operating on a day-to-day basis.

We are currently using Cohesity for our on-prem backups, and backup as a service for all our M365/O365 applications. Our previous vendor was not able to complete all backups within a 24 hour time period, this caused items to miss backup schedules. A second appliance was added to try and help this issue, and it did for a brief period, then it was an issue again. Instead of adding a 3rd appliance we started shopping around for a new product.
  • Fast Backups
  • Really Fast Restores
  • Immutable File System
  • Currently have no issues with the product
  • If I had to come up with one item, I do have to restore VM's to physical hardware from time to time for deployment testing. I have to use a 3rd party product to deploy a backup to a bare-metal item. This would be a nice feature if it was native to Cohesity.
  • I wish I would have heard of Cohesity years ago and not about 3 years ago. I could have used them about 10 years ago.
Cohesity has been awesome. The performance (speed) that it has been able to provide has actually given me back time every month. I have to test my backups monthly, and the Cloning process that Cohesity has available from it's backup has given me days back each month. It just a few minutes I can have VMs restored for testing and documentation. This took a couple days with the previous vendor.

Cohesity DataProtect allowed my organization to modernize our backup system away from tapes and into a modern data management system. No longer have to deal with ordering and configuring new media, swapping tapes in and out to libraries, and or data safe. All of our VMware workloads along with our unstructured data are now backed up via Cohesity. We were also able to retire multiple legacy NAS devices and move the data all into one Cohesity cluster.
  • Easy to setup and begin backing up all data types
  • Provision new file storage
  • Active directory backups
  • Allow for seamless upgrades to the software
  • Unified reporting experience
  • The 3rd party apps could see more development
  • Some of the view sorts default to 100 results vs all
  • EOS/EOL on hardware hasn't always been the clearest
  • Sizing process during acquisition could be streamlined
Cohesity has solutions that scale across a wide variety of organizations and a strong ability to scale, but some smaller organizations might not be able to absorb Cohesity at its lowest entry-level price points. For an organization with one or two servers and a handful of users, this product would probably be overkill.

The trial period was great; we were able to leverage the virtual edition to fully test features before bringing the actual hardware onsite for a POC. The solution has worked well and has outclassed our previous setup in both ease of use as well as efficiency and speed. One year in and we continue to be impressed by Cohesity. New features have been released and we have had great success with restores. We are now closing in on the end of our second full year utilizing our Cohesity cluster and it is performing as well as ever. I would recommend firing up a virtual instance of the cluster so that you can easily test out the complete functionality of the Cohesity ecosystem. They are adding applications that can be run directly on the cluster against your backups so that your production workloads are not negatively impacted. The product continues to perform beyond our initial expectations. User feedback is taken very seriously and I have personally seen improvements implemented that I specifically requested. The entire platform is being used to host other applications which can work with your backups, as well as a new software/cloud-only option which would be nice if you no longer want to host your own hardware. After more than 2 years I have to say the data deduplication and compression have really continued to shine. We have not needed to add additional capacity, something that was an annual occurrence with our old backup system.
  • Reliable backups
  • Live restores
  • Backups to cloud providers
  • Fast searching of backups
  • More visibility into cloud data allocations would be good
  • Reporting was a bit lacking at first but they have steadily improved this area
  • Cost is a bit high, but lower than competitors
In a highly virtualized environment, this solution really shines. I would think if you are still using bare metal servers it may not be the best fit for you, but there can't be many of those types of setups left. In our case, we back up 100 VMs and then send copies to a blob cloud storage provider for disaster recovery purposes. Cloud can also be used as an archive tier; we have not yet had to do this, as we have plenty of space on our cluster still. The dedupe and compression work really well.

We use Cohesity DataProtect as our backup and disaster recovery solution for our multisite environment. We backup physical machines, virtual machines, and all of our databases using it. Cohesity DataProtect allows us to store all of our data in multiple locations with cross site replication and archives the cloud and keeps all of the data safe with immutability and encryption. The UI and reporting makes it easy to report to provide easy to follow information to the higherups. We utilize Helios with Cohesity DataProtect, to have complete control over the appliances from a single pane of glass.
  • Efficient backups
  • Deduplication saves space and allows for more storage on the appliance
  • Recoveries are quick
  • No calendar based scheduling
  • Backing up of databases can be clunky
Cohesity DataProtect is a very robust solution that suits the needs of large companies. Protecting multiple locations is made simple and replication between multiple appliances makes recovery very easy in a worst case scenario. Smaller companies might find it to be overkill or out of the price range for what their needs are. The solution is top notch but is higher on the price scale.

We currently use Cohesity as our backup system and secondary storage for our organization. We use it across the organization for all data. It replaced our tape library system as well as phased out Veeam. We also use it to push a copy of our most recent backups to the cloud via AWS.
  • Easy to use and setup new backup and restore jobs.
  • Extremely fast recovery time, can spin a VMware backup VM up in well under a minute.
  • Granular recovery search options, easy to find specific files or systems to recover (or SQL DB).
  • Would be nice to have exchange message level recovery built right into the Cohesity interface.
Works great for replacing old backup technology with a modern, extremely fast and reliable hyperconverged platform. No more swapping tapes! Offsite storage to the cloud with easy recovery and ability to spin up in the cloud or restore back to the cohesity environment. Deduplication and compression technologies are integrated so you don't waste any space.

Cohesity replaced two legacy 'backup' platforms along with three different storage platforms during a merger of equals. SouthState Bank specifically protects over 1000 virtual servers (VMware) and 100+ MS SQL instances across multiple data centers. Cohesity allows policy-driven data protection that gives us the flexibility to protect test/dev data differently than our production and mission-critical data.
  • VMware protection, plain and simple.
  • Consolidation of native SQL backups to a centralized console based platform.
  • Clean and elegant UI that any engineer only needs a small level of knowledge to master.
  • Reporting could always be better- executive-style reports have to be generated from data at multiple points.
  • Some tasks that could be brought to the UI that today we have to call support on (for example when an NFS mount is still active but we cannot see it from the UI)
If you want to replace your legacy systems with a modern 'next generation' data protection platform, you cannot go wrong with Cohesity. Backing up VMware, HyperV, NAS, or multiple flavors of databases they have you covered in a simple but reliable solution. Add in automation and your test/dev environments can be kept up to date with real data.

We use Cohesity SmartFiles for file-sharing services. We have migrated most of our active file shares from our Windows file servers to the highly available Cohesity cluster using SmartFiles
  • File Shares
  • Data Protection
  • High Availability
  • Reporting
  • More polished UI
Cohesity SmartFiles provides file services and data protection on a highly available cluster. Rather than having to manage individual files servers, you have a cluster of file servers all centrally managed. The cluster is easily upgradable and scalable without any disruption in file services. And the data can be easily protected through snapshots, replication to other clusters and the cloud. Additionally features such as storage tiering to the cloud help with the scaling and storage costs as well.

We use Cohesity DataProtect as our data backup solution. This covers VMware VMs, SQL DBs, Windows servers, and Cisco switch configurations. Our previous backup solution was complicated to maintain and use. Cohesity DataProtect was significantly less expensive than the previous solution, along with being vastly easier to use, and came as an appliance solution.
  • Very simple an intuitive interface
  • Leverages VMWare VADP APIs so it integrates extremely well for VMware backups
  • Can be present and NAS storage for native SQL backups
  • Lack of MFA when using Active Directory-based user accounts.
  • Challenges with authentication with View from external AD domains.
  • Hot fix patches need to be installed via cli
Cohesity DataProtect is well suited for backing up Windows physical servers (Win2012-Win2022) and VMware workloads.

Cohesity DataProtect has allowed us to integrate our backup solution into the same platform as our hypervisor compute platform. This allows us to gain efficiency in keeping it up to date as well as monitor it from a single pane of glass. We were able to upgrade the storage to an enterprise level product that has seen better performance and reliability than our previous solution. With the addition of the Cohesity Helios app we are able to keep a closer eye on backups anywhere we go.
  • Better visibility on hardware usage compared the popular alternatives.
  • Individual backup jobs have settings requiring less manual effort for new vm's.
  • Better dedup and compression visibility than previous product offered.
  • M365 integration
  • Native integration with our storage provider.
  • More API integration instead of installing agents on servers.
For those organizations with lots of data on-prem this is an awesome solution. For those that have a larger hybrid environment it isn't as convenient to deploy a new cluster into every cloud provider and still get offsite copies replicated and kept track of for DR purposes.

Cohesity DataProtect has proven to be very stable, fast, and secure. It helped us to move away from big tape loaders, to a more scaleable setup. Restoring when needed is easy.
  • vmware snapshot backup
  • Client based backup
  • Manual patching and not from GUI.
Unless you have the option to move your backup to another location/cluster, then this kind of backup might not be for you. Ex. if you are used to taking home daily backup tapes, then you need to replicate the backup data to another location.

We are using Cohesity Data Platform mainly as a backup and restore and disaster recovery system for our clustered VMWare virtual environment. But also as a Platform for archives and other file services. The use case was clearly to replace an old Data Management, Backup, and Disaster Recovery platform. With Cohesity Data Platform, we have a great toolset for managing our fast-growing Data with one single User-interface
  • Fast and seamles Backups
  • Using existing interfaces like VMWare API
  • Restore of a complete VM can be done in really only a few minutes
  • SQL has still some bugs
  • Enineering needs sometime to long to react on bugs with business impact
  • Depending on support department, the quality is changing
Well, as given by the Name, Cohesity is great for Data Management including Backup, Restore, and of course disaster recovery. Also, Archive Services with different protocols are easy to use. There are many other features on the list and this list is growing from day to day, but we are not using them (yet).

We use Cohesity DataProtect to back up all of our physical and virtual servers as well as desktops. The primary problems Cohesity addressed for us were that we wanted our backup data to be on separate disks than production (this was not the case before) and we wanted faster restore times for virtual machines. We have a Cohesity cluster in each of our data centers and use the replication feature so our backup data has redundant copies.
  • Fast VM restores
  • Good dedupe/compression
  • Easy replication
  • Good Dashboards
  • Hotfixes complicated to install
  • Upgrades don't always populate into GUI
I believe that a highly virtualized (my exposure is only VMware) environment is a great fit for Cohesity DataProtect. But it also works very well backing up our physical servers. We are also backing up MS Active Directory, MS SharePoint, MS SQL, and MS Exchange. Cohesity has app-specific solutions for all of these giving granular restore options and we have leveraged all of them in production.

We use Cohesity to perform regular backups of all our on-premises workloads. These workloads consist of both physical machines as well as virtual instances running in a VMware environment. We perform daily backups and keep those backups for up to one year depending on the backup type. In addition, we leverage the ability of the platform to store archives of our backups in the cloud leveraging native cloud services.
  • Ease of use - the platform is simple to manage and does not require a lot of daily care and feeding by my administrators
  • Reliable - the platform is able to protect my workloads reliably without a lot of backup failures
  • Great support - the Cohesity team has been a partner to us throughout our use of the solution, taking our feedback and implementing it as improvements to the platform.
  • Innovative - the Cohesity team is consistently working to improve the product and add new capabilities.
  • The abilities of the SaaS-based solution - Data Management as a Service still have some room for improvement, especially in the area of backing up cloud-based workloads.
  • Releases can sometimes have bugs - always good to wait on rolling out new releases until the kinks have been worked out.
  • Delivery of fixes for known issues sometimes takes longer than I would like
The sweet spot of this product is protecting virtualized on-premise workloads running under VMware. For this use case, the product is highly recommended. Backing up of cloud-based workloads is still something that needs additional development for the solution to be competitive with other products.

Searching in the indexed Backup Data. For example, if you don´t know where the File is located that you want to restore you can easily search for it. Restore of VM´s is very fast. Even if you are restoring the first snapshot or the thousand snapshot that you made. Deduplication and Compression of data are very efficient.

We use Cohesity across 7 locations to backup and replicate our data. Cohesity allows us to have several copies of our data in different data centers.
  • We use replication heavily to get data from one site to another, letting us get data out of areas that are more subject to natural disasters.
  • The user interface for Cohesity is simple and easy to use; folks that don't use it often have no problem picking it up quickly.
  • We attempted to use the archive feature to copy data to AWS, but this hasn't really worked out well for us.
  • I wish they would run a mailing list that informed of new versions or problems that others are seeing with the product.
Cohesity works well if you're attempting to consolidate your data center or if you're trying to get the most out of your investment because of their focus on hyper-convergence.

We use Helios for the Ransomeware detection. Since we have enabled it, we had one time that it did detect, but after investigation, we found that it was an update to an app and deleted a bunch of temp files as a part of the update. We also use it for the marketplace. Great to have ClamAV in the marketplace.
  • Ransomware detection with machine learning.
  • Easy to install apps.
  • Great to see all alerts from all clusters in one place.
  • Has the option to use MFA.
  • Better written documentation on how Helios integrates with the clusters.
  • Have the Helios documentation available inside of Helios instead of the document site.
A feature of Cohesity Helios that I do not hear much about is the Security Advisor. This is a great place to see what may be done to secure your environment better. It has recommendations that a lot of admins would not typically use unless purposely pointed out and that is what the Security Advisor does. It makes it easy to secure your clusters and it detects if a setting was made on one cluster but not the other cluster. A great feature when dealing with a company's hope to survive a ransomware attack and their crucial data.

Cohesity allowed us to backup data more effectively and restore the data fast. We have less issues in Hyper-v and Vmware compared to other products. Also the addition of Helios and marketplace add new options that other products can not provide.
  • Helios added additional report and management of two or more clusters.
  • The schedule reports is handy to have and setup to ensure backups are running without erros.
  • We had issues with Hyper-v. But that was windows issue not really cohesity issue.

Mainly we have vSAN && traditional VMware infrra with Windows, Linux which is hosting MSSQL, ORACLE, SAP HANA & SAP BASIS application. We are able to use lots of improvements in both performance and RPO.
  • Infinitely node scalable - Able to increase our cluster capacity based on our needs by adding nodes online
  • Faster backup & RTO
  • Non-disruptive upgrades - No Service downtime as Cohesity upgrades one node at a time and entire cluster is available during the upgrade
  • Test/Dev - Great feature
  • Advance Storage Analytics - Will give more insights on storage trend and performance
  • OS backup compatibility for new releases of RHEL & OEL to be improved.
  • Multi-tenancy has limited scope and looking for support of multi-tenancy across all platforms on Cohesity.
  • Documentation - Sometimes support matrix is not up to date on their docs portal.

We currently utilize Cohesity as our primary data backup, archival/restore platform, BUT, we have also incorporated this platform as part of our enterprise NAS (secondary NAS). So far, things are going well, but we do have a learning curve that we are trying to get through and utilize this technology to its fullest capability. Backups are primarily SQL databases, file level backups and all our VM backups (as Cohesity replaced the previous VM backup system).
  • Extremely streamline admin controls for our SAs.
  • Excellent account team and backend support.
  • Competitive pricing.
  • Data platform/encryption is solid.
  • Would like to see a broader analytics offering, including data management & security offerings.

Our experience with the Cohesity DataProtect Platform has been overwhelmingly positive as we been able to manage our 500+ VMs and physical servers with only a few backup policies. Backups: VMs are currently being added to jobs automatically through tagging. But, we also manually add VMs to jobs at times as we need to split up the load of VMs to multiple backup jobs. We try to keep a ratio of 15 VMs to 1 job. After getting a Cohesity Agent on a SQL server and syncing it with Cohesity, it is simple to set a backup/retention schedule for Log, Incremental, and Full backups based on policy. We utilize the Cohesity APIs to produce daily reports on jobs that have succeeded, failed, paused, etc. We send an email to our Systems team with this information and log it in a .csv. This allows us to give a timeline to backup auditors as well as let us know when something isn't going right. Restores: We have used Cohesity to restore granular files as well as restore SQL databases. VM's restore to vSphere directly. VM's typically restore quite quickly and work right away as long as they're restored to the original vSphere they came from. Individual files can be searched on multiple VM backups and downloaded locally or placed back on source machine. SQL Databases can be restored to any SQL server instance, not only the original. As long as the SQL versions match. *We have had some luck restoring databases from older SQL versions to newer SQL versions.
  • Intuitive user Interface.
  • Good reporting and metrics.
  • Cohesity restores data well.
  • Replication performance - We needed support to provide some customizations in order to get our replication to work properly to another offsite cluster. We have been told that this issue is fixed in the newest general release.
  • Support - I would characterize the support as very good, but in a few instances I could tell my support agent needed to go higher up his chain to get clarification on features. I believe Cohesity is rapidly growing their support infrastructure as they put more hardware in the field.
Reliable backup solution with many options and friendly/logical backup/restore infrastructure.

We have 4 units spread across several data centers and on-premise locations. Two units used as a File Server and 2 units used as a repository for backups.
  • Intuitive user Interface.
  • Good reporting and metrics.
  • Setup was not very easy, not intuitive.
  • Ability for multi-tenant (VLAN) was not quite there yet.
Very good for File Server applications. Maybe not so good for only a repository, at least not yet.

Cohesity is currently being used on our environment for backup and recovery of structured and unstructured data. We also use the replication feature to replicate all data off-site for disaster recovery. We use Cohesity to backup Microsoft SQL databases as well and have given our DBA's ability to backup and restore databases for themselves. It's currently only used within our technology department but could be used in the future by other admins throughout the district to restore data on their own, thus alleviating this task from our department. We were using EMC networker and backing up data to Datadomain, and I can tell you had the backup and recovery software and storage all is one is easier to manage.
  • Cohesity restores data well.
  • It can de-duplicate data very well.
  • The alerts sent out could be more descriptive.
  • It would be nice to be able to restore Active directory objects.
Cohesity is well suited to use for backing up and restoring all data. It's also useful for deploying CIF shares that would be used for storing secondary data like analytical information. I really can't think of any scenarios where this would be less appropriate.
