We are currently using Cohesity for our on-prem backups, and backup as a service for all our M365/O365 applications. Our previous vendor was not able to complete all backups within a 24 hour time period, this caused items to miss backup schedules. A second appliance was added to try and help this issue, and it did for a brief period, then it was an issue again. Instead of adding a 3rd appliance we started shopping around for a new product.
  • Fast Backups
  • Really Fast Restores
  • Immutable File System
  • Currently have no issues with the product
  • If I had to come up with one item, I do have to restore VM's to physical hardware from time to time for deployment testing. I have to use a 3rd party product to deploy a backup to a bare-metal item. This would be a nice feature if it was native to Cohesity.
  • I wish I would have heard of Cohesity years ago and not about 3 years ago. I could have used them about 10 years ago.
Cohesity has been awesome. The performance (speed) that it has been able to provide has actually given me back time every month. I have to test my backups monthly, and the Cloning process that Cohesity has available from it's backup has given me days back each month. It just a few minutes I can have VMs restored for testing and documentation. This took a couple days with the previous vendor.

Cohesity DataProtect allowed my organization to modernize our backup system away from tapes and into a modern data management system. No longer have to deal with ordering and configuring new media, swapping tapes in and out to libraries, and or data safe. All of our VMware workloads along with our unstructured data are now backed up via Cohesity. We were also able to retire multiple legacy NAS devices and move the data all into one Cohesity cluster.
  • Easy to setup and begin backing up all data types
  • Provision new file storage
  • Active directory backups
  • Allow for seamless upgrades to the software
  • Unified reporting experience
  • The 3rd party apps could see more development
  • Some of the view sorts default to 100 results vs all
  • EOS/EOL on hardware hasn't always been the clearest
  • Sizing process during acquisition could be streamlined
Cohesity has solutions that scale across a wide variety of organizations and a strong ability to scale, but some smaller organizations might not be able to absorb Cohesity at its lowest entry-level price points. For an organization with one or two servers and a handful of users, this product would probably be overkill.

The trial period was great; we were able to leverage the virtual edition to fully test features before bringing the actual hardware onsite for a POC. The solution has worked well and has outclassed our previous setup in both ease of use as well as efficiency and speed. One year in and we continue to be impressed by Cohesity. New features have been released and we have had great success with restores. We are now closing in on the end of our second full year utilizing our Cohesity cluster and it is performing as well as ever. I would recommend firing up a virtual instance of the cluster so that you can easily test out the complete functionality of the Cohesity ecosystem. They are adding applications that can be run directly on the cluster against your backups so that your production workloads are not negatively impacted. The product continues to perform beyond our initial expectations. User feedback is taken very seriously and I have personally seen improvements implemented that I specifically requested. The entire platform is being used to host other applications which can work with your backups, as well as a new software/cloud-only option which would be nice if you no longer want to host your own hardware. After more than 2 years I have to say the data deduplication and compression have really continued to shine. We have not needed to add additional capacity, something that was an annual occurrence with our old backup system.
  • Reliable backups
  • Live restores
  • Backups to cloud providers
  • Fast searching of backups
  • More visibility into cloud data allocations would be good
  • Reporting was a bit lacking at first but they have steadily improved this area
  • Cost is a bit high, but lower than competitors
In a highly virtualized environment, this solution really shines. I would think if you are still using bare metal servers it may not be the best fit for you, but there can't be many of those types of setups left. In our case, we back up 100 VMs and then send copies to a blob cloud storage provider for disaster recovery purposes. Cloud can also be used as an archive tier; we have not yet had to do this, as we have plenty of space on our cluster still. The dedupe and compression work really well.

We currently use Cohesity as our backup system and secondary storage for our organization. We use it across the organization for all data. It replaced our tape library system as well as phased out Veeam. We also use it to push a copy of our most recent backups to the cloud via AWS.
  • Easy to use and setup new backup and restore jobs.
  • Extremely fast recovery time, can spin a VMware backup VM up in well under a minute.
  • Granular recovery search options, easy to find specific files or systems to recover (or SQL DB).
  • Would be nice to have exchange message level recovery built right into the Cohesity interface.
Works great for replacing old backup technology with a modern, extremely fast and reliable hyperconverged platform. No more swapping tapes! Offsite storage to the cloud with easy recovery and ability to spin up in the cloud or restore back to the cohesity environment. Deduplication and compression technologies are integrated so you don't waste any space.

Cohesity DataProtect has allowed us to integrate our backup solution into the same platform as our hypervisor compute platform. This allows us to gain efficiency in keeping it up to date as well as monitor it from a single pane of glass. We were able to upgrade the storage to an enterprise level product that has seen better performance and reliability than our previous solution. With the addition of the Cohesity Helios app we are able to keep a closer eye on backups anywhere we go.
  • Better visibility on hardware usage compared the popular alternatives.
  • Individual backup jobs have settings requiring less manual effort for new vm's.
  • Better dedup and compression visibility than previous product offered.
  • M365 integration
  • Native integration with our storage provider.
  • More API integration instead of installing agents on servers.
For those organizations with lots of data on-prem this is an awesome solution. For those that have a larger hybrid environment it isn't as convenient to deploy a new cluster into every cloud provider and still get offsite copies replicated and kept track of for DR purposes.

We use Cohesity to perform regular backups of all our on-premises workloads. These workloads consist of both physical machines as well as virtual instances running in a VMware environment. We perform daily backups and keep those backups for up to one year depending on the backup type. In addition, we leverage the ability of the platform to store archives of our backups in the cloud leveraging native cloud services.
  • Ease of use - the platform is simple to manage and does not require a lot of daily care and feeding by my administrators
  • Reliable - the platform is able to protect my workloads reliably without a lot of backup failures
  • Great support - the Cohesity team has been a partner to us throughout our use of the solution, taking our feedback and implementing it as improvements to the platform.
  • Innovative - the Cohesity team is consistently working to improve the product and add new capabilities.
  • The abilities of the SaaS-based solution - Data Management as a Service still have some room for improvement, especially in the area of backing up cloud-based workloads.
  • Releases can sometimes have bugs - always good to wait on rolling out new releases until the kinks have been worked out.
  • Delivery of fixes for known issues sometimes takes longer than I would like
The sweet spot of this product is protecting virtualized on-premise workloads running under VMware. For this use case, the product is highly recommended. Backing up of cloud-based workloads is still something that needs additional development for the solution to be competitive with other products.

We use Cohesity across 7 locations to backup and replicate our data. Cohesity allows us to have several copies of our data in different data centers.
  • We use replication heavily to get data from one site to another, letting us get data out of areas that are more subject to natural disasters.
  • The user interface for Cohesity is simple and easy to use; folks that don't use it often have no problem picking it up quickly.
  • We attempted to use the archive feature to copy data to AWS, but this hasn't really worked out well for us.
  • I wish they would run a mailing list that informed of new versions or problems that others are seeing with the product.
Cohesity works well if you're attempting to consolidate your data center or if you're trying to get the most out of your investment because of their focus on hyper-convergence.

Cohesity is used by our internal IT department for backup and restore. It has been used mostly for backups using ESXi. MSSQL and Exchange will also be backed up with Cohesity. You can create BackUp groups and link them to vCenter Folders. As soon as you create a VM in this folder it will be automatically backup. Also SQL Backup is easy to set up and once you know how the restore is also easy.
  • SQL backup.
  • ESXi backup.
  • Very fast restore.
  • File search.
  • File Protection
  • File Restore
  • Little issue that can't be solved yet.
  • Some problems with SQL restore.
  • Sometimes a little bugs in the GUI.
You can restore VMs very fast so your business is online in less than one hour. It's also possible to search your backup files and restore only that file that you need within seconds. I think Cohesity can be used in most of the business. You are able to back up a lot of products.

We currently only have a single on-perm cluster but use Helios to access certain features like the anti-ransomware, security advisor and Helios reports. We only use Helios within the IT department but being a SaaS service it aligns with our Cloud first vision and means we can access and manage Cohesity from anywhere.
  • Single point of management
  • Anti-ransomware reports
  • Now supports MFA
  • Reports have limited customisation
  • We’ve had some issues with Cloud Archive but Cohesity support have been exceptional in working to get this resolved
Cohesity is very well suited to protecting virtualised workloads and is a significant improvement over IBM Spectrum Protect which we’ve replaced by Cohesity. We also protect a Netapp workload and whilst the on-prem side works really well careful planning of protection jobs is needed if you’ll be archiving these to Cloud.

Cohesity allowed us to backup data more effectively and restore the data fast. We have less issues in Hyper-v and Vmware compared to other products. Also the addition of Helios and marketplace add new options that other products can not provide.
  • Helios added additional report and management of two or more clusters.
  • The schedule reports is handy to have and setup to ensure backups are running without erros.
  • We had issues with Hyper-v. But that was windows issue not really cohesity issue.
[Cohesity] works great with VMWare. You can created protected folders in VMWare and allow then to sync over to Cohesity, Any server in that folder will automatically be backed up.

We are using Cohesity for in-house backup solution for our entire Infrastructure which earlier was outsourced to 3rd party vendor. Mainly we have vSAN && traditional VMware infrra with Windows, Linux which is hosting MSSQL, ORACLE, SAP HANA & SAP BASIS application. We are able to use lots of improvements in both performance and RPO.
  • Infinitely node scalable - Able to increase our cluster capacity based on our needs by adding nodes online
  • Faster backup & RTO
  • Non-disruptive upgrades - No Service downtime as Cohesity upgrades one node at a time and entire cluster is available during the upgrade
  • Test/Dev - Great feature
  • Advance Storage Analytics - Will give more insights on storage trend and performance
  • OS backup compatibility for new releases of RHEL & OEL to be improved.
  • Multi-tenancy has limited scope and looking for support of multi-tenancy across all platforms on Cohesity.
  • Documentation - Sometimes support matrix is not up to date on their docs portal.
Cohesity is best for VMware and faster NAS backups. They are working on lots of improvements that were not available in most of the backup products.

Our experience with the Cohesity DataProtect Platform has been overwhelmingly positive as we been able to manage our 500+ VMs and physical servers with only a few backup policies. Backups: VMs are currently being added to jobs automatically through tagging. But, we also manually add VMs to jobs at times as we need to split up the load of VMs to multiple backup jobs. We try to keep a ratio of 15 VMs to 1 job. After getting a Cohesity Agent on a SQL server and syncing it with Cohesity, it is simple to set a backup/retention schedule for Log, Incremental, and Full backups based on policy. We utilize the Cohesity APIs to produce daily reports on jobs that have succeeded, failed, paused, etc. We send an email to our Systems team with this information and log it in a .csv. This allows us to give a timeline to backup auditors as well as let us know when something isn't going right. Restores: We have used Cohesity to restore granular files as well as restore SQL databases. VM's restore to vSphere directly. VM's typically restore quite quickly and work right away as long as they're restored to the original vSphere they came from. Individual files can be searched on multiple VM backups and downloaded locally or placed back on source machine. SQL Databases can be restored to any SQL server instance, not only the original. As long as the SQL versions match. *We have had some luck restoring databases from older SQL versions to newer SQL versions.
  • Intuitive user Interface.
  • Good reporting and metrics.
  • Cohesity restores data well.
  • Replication performance - We needed support to provide some customizations in order to get our replication to work properly to another offsite cluster. We have been told that this issue is fixed in the newest general release.
  • Support - I would characterize the support as very good, but in a few instances I could tell my support agent needed to go higher up his chain to get clarification on features. I believe Cohesity is rapidly growing their support infrastructure as they put more hardware in the field.
Reliable backup solution with many options and friendly/logical backup/restore infrastructure.

We are a cloud provider and have two Cohesity clusters. In these clusters, we have a total of 20 nodes (hardware C2500 and C2505) with a total of 24.5 TB Storage Capacity for Metadata. Our customers have protection jobs with their own storage domain.
With this, we provide our customers with a reliable backup solution. Customers can restore backups themselves, both on file and VM levels. Backups for O365 are also slowly getting there. Even when it is in the cloud, customers still want this environment to be backed up 'locally'.
We ourselves make internal use of all the above functions and the Active directory backup option. We are very satisfied with this.
  • Backing all kinds data (VM, O365, NFS volumes, etc.)
  • Restoring data to vCenter
  • Make faster releases on the outcome of new products (e.g. update of VMware)
  • Backup other product like Sharepoint
As a cloud provider for customers, but also for your own environment, it’s suitable for most of your use cases. At the moment, except for Sharepoint, I can't think of anything we need that we can't back up as a cloud provider.

It all started with one Cohesity box, and currently we have 8 fully populated systems across locations. Cohesity is a blend of cost-effective storage designed for secondary or archival data, and integrates well with a number of other systems like Vmware, PureStorage, or AWS with its large array of APIs available to the user. We are using it for backing up VMs, indexing data, and restoring data, and it's lightning fast. At the same time the data compression and dedup is robust and best among the products we came across.
  • Backing data (VMs , physical servers, NFS volumes, Pure storage volumes, etc.)
  • Running splunk cold buckets.
  • FIles and folder level restoration.
  • Disaster recovery planning and replication.
  • Support.
  • Stable releases.
  • Bug fixes.
It's perfect for handling your secondary and archival data. It can replace the legacy backup solutions and tape libraries, and integrate with and leverage most of the available public clouds. Also, they have a virtual cloud edition for AWS, which you can use to take maximum advantage of a hybrid kind of environment. You can also use it to offload snapshots from your costly tier 1 storage like Pure.

Cohesity is now being used across the organization for two primary purposes and several secondary uses. The main use was originally as our secondary storage and data protection. It is fully utilized for this. We also now use it increasingly for file services, moving old NAS units to Cohesity workloads. Finally, we also take advantage of our Cohesity units for file analytics via the Marketplace apps.
  • Indexed dedup while staying compressed and encrypted at rest and in-transit.
  • An easy interface for my non-admin IT staff to be able to work with the system.
  • We've seen a drastic reduction in our replication traffic for off-site data protection.
  • Seamless archival to Azure blob storage.
  • Short backup windows compared to our previous software.
  • More apps for the Marketplace are needed!
  • While it is great that they offer many backup options for cloud offerings, I would like to see some more, like Teams.
This is a great solution for a company working to get off of tape and into the cloud for data archival. They offer options for starting out connecting to tapes, but make it very easy to move those workloads to a cloud replication in small increments, so that no databox or similar services are needed to forklift data into the CSP.
They are also very good for Hyper-V, and my company found hard to find a good vendor for this need. They seamlessly support Hyper-V 2016, with support for clusters, VMM, and many other scenarios.

It was easy to implement and do a POC. After it was shown to be the superior product it was easy to flip to production. Issues have been dealt with promptly or put on the roadmap for a future release. Backup and restore became as easy as they're supposed to be.
  • The various ways to quickly reover data. Cloning and instant volume mounts (Exchange restores) have been great options.
  • Ability to use it as secondary storage for VMDK's that don't need to be on Tier 1.
  • Using it as a NAS device.
  • Ability to backup Isilon!
  • Mainly cosmetic stuff that is currently being addressed.
  • Expiration times for clones.
Well suited for backups of an entire virtual environment with an agent to catch any physical server. Using as a NAS/filer to store your data and protect it at the same time. Replicating data for DR off-site has worked great. The option to use a clone to test or verify settings without bringing a VM back fully online is great.

We are a managed service provider (MSP) in the Netherlands that were the first adopters of the product in our country. We use it for backing up all our client's virtual machines throughout data centers in the Netherlands. We run the Fundaments Cloud and deliver Infrastructure as a service. Cohesity delivers a multi-tenant portal for the backups and provides a plugin for vCloud Director. It can backup thousands of virtual machines without scaling issues.
  • Backups of virtual machines with VMware products.
  • Scale-out storage, no more issues with running out of disk space with your backups.
  • Multi-tenant possibilities that help us solve the issue of letting clients be in control of their own backups as a managed service provider.
  • Further adopting managed service providers.
It's well suited when you need a scale-out storage system that scales with a growing organization. When running a small environment, however, with a few hosts and a few VMs for an office environment the investment is steep.

Cohesity is currently being used for data protection and secondary storage. It will expand to disaster recovery in 2020. It is being used for our corporate datacenter and thus protects us organization wide. It addressed low backup job success rates and offloading secondary storage onto cheaper disk. In addition we will implement its analytics capability for archive, GDPR compliance checks, and PII identification.
  • Data protection has been rock solid.
  • Support and customer service is responsive and knowledgeable as well as courteous.
  • Secondary storage (SMB/NFS) work as advertised and save us money.
  • The web UI still needs a little refining especially around the wording in alerts and messages to users.
  • International sales resources in APAC.
Using Cohesity for data protection is amazing. They are the Uber of the data protection world. Setting up sources and targets is so simple. The backup procedures are crisp, and the results speak for themselves. 99%+ success rate since install.
Less appropriate would be backing up really old legacy apps that need specialized plugins or agents. i.e. Lotus Nnotes or something like that.

Cohesity is used as the backup application across all entities in the group. It replaces a legacy application with a lot of servers—vApps—that does not scale very well. Our application had many bugs and required constant upgrades to fix issues. Unfortunately, these new releases had bugs each time. With Cohesity, it was really easy to deploy the cluster, in a few hours, the first cluster was deployed and ready to take backups.
  • Easy to set up in just a few hours.
  • Upgrades are done online, you can still do backups and restore when the cluster is upgrading.
  • Restores are really easy to perform and fast.
  • No support for Windows clustering but this should be released in a few weeks or months.
  • No Windows BMR without third-party add-ons.
If you have an environment using VMs, it will be great. If you require physical server backup, you will need add-ons. Cohesity can be used for many other things like storing archives (using the embedded WORM feature). It can be used as NAS too. There is also an app store but this is new so I am hoping to see more applications in the coming months.

We were backing up about 160 TB to tape per week. We are still moving over to Cohesity, however, we will not have the need to have the hardware related to tapes next year. Also, the money we spend on new versions of tapes is not going towards more clusters. In Cohesity, my backups are running faster and I have more frequent crash consistent data.
  • Cohesity will save us money, time, and manpower.
  • We will have quick redundancy to AWS for our Cohesity node.
  • This tool is very straightforward and clean. The menus are not over complicated or cluttered.
  • Cohesity is working on this, however, I would like to see a more expanded KB section.
We were backing up about 160 TB to tape per week. We will be able to eliminate our off site tape storage, and all expenses related to that. This will save us time and money each day. I have not come across any areas that we could not use Cohesity.

Cohesity is being used as our primary backup system for our entire firm. We have a cluster in our Data Center as well as across the country in one of our other offices. Cohesity takes care of all our backups and restores.
  • Backups are easy to create, edit and troubleshoot.
  • Document recovery is amazingly quick with a variety of ways to do the restore. It takes less than 3 minutes to restore a deleted document to document management system.
  • Replication is also a big ticket item for us as we can replicate all our backups down to our Phoenix cluster. It all can be done overnight so there are no interruptions during the day.
  • Confirmation when doing restores wouldn't hurt at all. It would help prevent my own misclicks!
  • We are hoping for a future option of ISCSI attached drives.
  • A way to cancel restores in the case of restoring the wrong item or too many items.
Anyone looking for a new strong backup system with ease of use, almost instant recovery times and increased storage efficiency with scale-out abilities. It simplifies backup software to make your job less stressful.

Our primary use case for this solution was as a backup and recovery solution, with the ability to handle VMware and a small subset of physical servers. It is being utilized to do backups across the organization. We have a rapidly expanding data set that our previous backup solution could not handle and the upgrade path was a complete redesign of hardware and when that solution maxed out, then it was the same over and over again. The biggest attraction to start looking at Cohesity was being able to scale up with ease. After discussing the option and features, it was clear that Cohesity is made to handle things quickly, simply, and with ease.
  • The simplicity of the solution and the support behind implementation, training, and continued support.
  • The implementation and training are all done through the sales engineer, which provides for a seamless and great experience when it comes to starting with a new vendor.
  • How fast the solution works. When it comes to implementation (which is done in an hour or so) to backups, to actual recoveries, everything is just quick.
  • The one drawback of this quick innovation is that their units were shipped with outdated firmware, but this was quickly remedied, and they have made operational changes to reduce the likelihood of sending outdated firmware again.
Cohesity is definitely well suited to be your backup solution and provide the necessary backups and assurances that things can and will be recovered quickly in the event that it is needed. I could see practical application in other secondary storage use cases, but right now we are not at the point of using Cohesity for that so I cannot completely speak to those use cases.

We use Cohesity as our primary backup source across our whole organization, spread across different countries and domains.
Mainly it solves our problems with backup and restore window, but we are getting more and more into using it as a helpful tool in test and development with its built-in test/dev feature.
  • Simplicity in everything from the installation of the box to the GUI and setting up policies and jobs.
  • Scalability and the option to buy as you need and grow on your "own" terms.
  • User feedback focus in development of the product.
  • World class support and technical expertise when talking to support.
  • The ability to be used as more than just a backup solution, this is also a secondary storage, test/dev and analytics.
  • Still a young company and they are working out the minor flaws in at an impressive speed.
If you are looking into a new solution to save time, consulting hours, streamline your backup and secondary storage with a lot more possibilities, this is the product to choose.
