It provides data protection for critical and non-critical data from a DC environment to a remote office. The tool is easy to use and offers loads of functionality from management server consolidation to media agents/clients migration without any hassles. Well documented operational documentation proves helpful when in need of references and guidance.,Recent major release upgrades provide tools for pre-flight checks on the management servers if the environment is fit for upgrades or requires attention or fixes prior to a successful upgrade. Recently we went through a management server consolidation exercise and it worked flawlessly and the process was pretty straightforward and easy to follow. Support team is very responsive and provides confidence in solutions and good follow through until the problem is rectified or solved. CommServe can manage backups for virtual machines via VSA without installing agents on virtual machines (non application aware backup),Does not have any migration tools if a customer is migrating from a non-CommVault backup tool to CommVault. If Full backups for Virtual Machines failed on a subclient, they can only be rerun for incrementals instead of FULL backups,10,Recently CommVault introduces CommVault Connections where the event invites Partners, Technical experts and CV team to come together on a platform to share and ask technical questions with the intention of providing customers or technical experts a platform to share ideas or ask more operations related queries or advises,Symantec NetBackup and Data Protector (formerly HP Data Protector),Veritas NetBackup, Data Protector (formerly HP Data Protector), Carbonite Availability (formerly DoubleTake),20,3,Data protection for Critical applications, NAS storage archive, Virtual machines backups Potential backup to cloud for remote sites to do away with tape backups,Global view of all the combined CommServe backup health status in a single pane. Some newer backup technology may have a simpler management pane but may be complex to deploy especially when you have multiple vlan to work with.,Implemented in-house,some clients were behind firewalls and this require to enable the firewall configuration on both client and CommServe so that both client and Commserve can communicate to each other.,10,They assisted in Server migration and multiple sessions to get the problem resolved. This is through call support and screen share sessions. End of the day the solution was completed within the projected time line.,10,Web based consoles (WebConsole, Administrator Console) are easy to navigate and supports multiple users access simultaneously. This is way better than logon locally to the CommServe server where RDP would usually limit access to limited concurrent users only. Failed jobs can be configured to rerun to a specific number of times (customised),CommVault documentations doesn't have any graphical snapshots and may sometimes be cumbersome to understand and may required to discover where and how to enable certain functions and or features,Yes,10CommVault saves the day!We are currently using CommVault by our IT department to backup our critical systems. We are storing backups to a storage device and retaining monthly and yearly backups for 7 years. This will address our DR needs to be able to quickly restore any of our critical servers back to any point that we have retained backups to.,Automated backup jobs are easy to set up. Summary reports are emailed after each backup so you know immediately if a job has failed on any of the systems. User interface/console is easy to use and navigate.,Errors on failed backups can be fairly cryptic. Clearer error messages would be an enhancement to the current ones. Support tends to not be very helpful. Performance could be improved.,7,Mainly on a compliance note, we are able to archive backups out multiple years. Cost is high, but most solutions that provide what Commvault is providing are going to be costly. Restores multiple databases at one time. Provides various options for restore.,UI for database restore isn't intuitive - have to apply some intelligence to find the right combination of settings. Alerts upon backup completion aren't functioning properly. When a restore fails, the program does not always quit the restoration process on the database side. When an attempt to restore fails, the error message doesn't appear in front of you. The restore hangs as 5% progress and you have to scroll to find out what was wrong. Summary reports about backups aren't useful - too much information and no logical grouping or flexibility.,3,Saving time by managing backup schedules from one UI. It is serving it's purpose and for companies that have a smaller IT staff, it is not time consuming to manage. Support for the product when needed has been very good and they are responsive when tickets are opened for support. The product is scalable so as we grow we can easily increase the resources as needed on the backend.
